I got the Sirui T-005X

It's very small packed up but is about eye level when fully extended. It's also pretty sturdy and can carry quite a bit of weight.

Here's some pictures:

Next to my iPhone5 and D800 + 70-200

A low setup you can use

I cut down on the weight of other items in my pack so I can bring my DSLR because it is important to me. It’s worth the risk of bringing it because I love the photos it takes. You will have to gauge if it is worth it to you. With a good phone camera and a good eye you will definitely get pictures you are happy with now, but I look at photos I took with my phone camera 4 years ago and it looks like potato quality. I really wish I had taken them with a nicer camera.

I have a Nikon D3400 and travel with a 35mm for portraits and a wide angle 10-24mm. I put it in a case and strap that to the outside of my pack and pull it out when needed. GoPro for everything else.

Camera case I use: Think Tank Mirrorless Mover (my camera is not mirrorless, but it fits in here)

Full size tripod I use: Sirui T-005KX 52" Aluminum Alloy Tripod with C-10X Ball Head & Case (Black)

I highly recommend the Sirui tripods. I have a heavier duty one myself from them, but I really want to pick up either the T-025X or T-005KX. Both are ~2lbs and fold up to around 12", not to mention amazing value for the price. I've found my Sirui to be pretty reliable and user-friendly. Your setup is light and you probably won't need the extra weight they can support but they'll be useful for heavier setups and not only this trip if you want to use them for the future.

This is what I just recently got and would recommend:

Why? Because it folds to less than 12". I have another Manfrotto tripod (055xprob I think) that is pricier and sturdier because of its weight. But because of that, I don't usually bring it around with me. This little Sirui comes with me everywhere as I just stick it to my small Think Tank Hubba Hubba Hiney.

I recently bought [this tripod] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AZTCHES/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1) for a trip through the Alps and it was great. It's not as tall as your standard tripod, but folded up, it is really tiny. It's also pretty solid and stable. If you have the money, something like this can make carrying a tripod all over the place much easier.
