When they're good, they're still only so-so and really only can "see" your legs and groin (the shortest path of electricity). If this is important to you, I would also buy a handheld body-fat device -- one that you grip in both hands and it does your arms and upper torso. Then average between them for the number to use for tracking. I created a custom measurement to keep track of these in MyFitnessPal.

Know also that these are very susceptible to reading water retention as fat. You'll definitely want to look at the trends and not the volatile individual daily readings.

https://www.amazon.com/Smart-Weigh-Precision-Tempered-Recognition/dp/B00M8FXDIQ/ is the scale that I bought and 10/10 would buy again. It includes the body-fat reading.

I don't own one but the "Omron Fat Loss Monitor" hand-held device is an example of what I was talking about. I don't know if that's a good one or not.

I really liked that it has a little light scale on the bracelet itself that shows a visual representation of how much activity you've gotten in that day (like, % of goal shown in bar format - for example, imagine these asterisks are lights:

(***) would mean you hit your goal while ( ) would mean you are only 2/5 of the way there)

Also, the app lets you sort of compete with your friends. You can see their step totals in comparison with yours and playfully taunt each other. I easily get sucked into numbers games (goddamn cookie clicker) so this is something that would make me wanna work out more.

Plus, she doesn't use the function but I found out today there is a sleep tracking aspect to it as well, and the battery lasts for 5 days without recharging.

They also sell a scale that can link up to the fitbit and update all your stats automatically, but it's $120 or something and I don't want to spend that on a scale. Instead I'm getting this smart scale and am going to put my stats in manually.

I have the Smart Weigh Body Fat Scale. I can't comment on its accuracy as I've never used another method to actually capture my BF% to compare it against. However, my goal is not accuracy. My goal is tracking, and it gives me numbers to track and overcome which is all I really want anyways.

Congrats on the drop in body fat! How are you measuring it? Do you know if those body fat scales are accurate? I got on one the other day and it said 19.5%. I figured I was around 25%, so it was kind of a relief, but I wonder how much water weight would cause it to jump around. I've been thinking about running in the mornings too, but I have to be out the door for work at 6:20AM, so it takes an awful lot of willpower.

I have been loosely keeping track of my protein intake, but it's hard unless I stick to foods that either have barcodes or that I can weigh out myself. IIFYM recommends about 130 g/day, but I normally get between 80 and 100, based on the days that I've been really meticulous about keeping track of it.

By the way, a friend of mine showed my videos to a personal trainer at Gold's Gym, and the trainer said I need to work on flexibility before I squat that deep. (I'm guessing she noticed the butt wink.) I've been thinking about trying yoga a couple times per week to help with that, but of course all the ritzy yoga studios around here are super pricey.
