> The things that are important to me: low noise in low light, good af, high dr, easy to control in manual mode. I do mostly landscapes, but I use it for pretty much everything.

NEX-7 Owner here:

I totally feel your pain here. I love my NEX-7 but it seriously is falling behind in these categories. The biggest thing you'll lose by upgrading is the tri-navi. But I believe you'll gain everything you're looking for if you upgrade. So, if you are fine with loseing the tri-navi which for me, I barely ever change my F-stop but always am adjusting the shutter, it's an easy and worthwhile jump.

Also, Just to note, I recently just obtained a used A7ii, this upgrade was amazing and since I got it used, the price was in the ball park of a new a6300. I was also lucky enough to get a Zeiss lens in the deal so if you're cool with used stuff, keep your eye out at /r/cameramarket, Keh.com and ebay. You'll find a deal in the very near future since the A99ii just got announced.

Buying cameras aside, as for the glass, the glass is expensive but I've been buying minolta lenses up for 30 to 50$ each and I've been getting great results. You can get decent AF minolta lenses here and there and all you need to get is the LA-EA3 / LA-EA4* to make them work There's a great article in the top 20 posts on here that call out 15 cheap manual lenses all for under $100 (at the time the article was written). I highly suggest looking at that regardless of what you get. I got a Minolta 50mm F2.0 for $30 as a result. Super fun lens and SUPER sharp. I sent some picks to a camera savy friend of mine to see if he could tell the difference between the Minolta and Zeiss and he had a very hard time deciding (in the end he cheated and looked at the image info but still..)

Anyways, good luck on your choice.

  • Fun note which I stumbled on, I have a generic AF Amount adapter that turns AF's into Manual. I put a Sony 30mm Macro lens on it and I have zero vinetting. Not sure if I got lucky or something else but it's an interesting outcome. I plan on buying a few other A mounts to test the limts. On the flip side, I also have the LA-EA2 and with this adapter I do get some vinetting. Like I said, I'm not sure what's going on here so your mileage may vary.

Sony has a 35mm f1.8 for $220, and a 30mm f1.8 for $200.
