Im trying to keep it around 1k.

Im looking at the Sony XBR55X810C http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0148OZLOS?colid=3091YPQ1TURR&coliid=I3KFMSU4W5M3OV&psc=1&ref_=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl

and the Samsung UN55JU7500, which is outside my price range, but...

I was hoping that the Samsung might come down some, around 1200, more once the new models come out. But if they don't then Ill probably end up with the Sony.

After racking my brain and google and amazon and rtings and reddit for the past few days, I finally made a decision and pulled the trigger.

I bought this in open box condition for $940 no tax free ship

The input lag isn't THE BEST but it's 34ms which is already better than what I have.

120 hz doesnt actually do anything for you as everything is shot and will be fed to your tv at 60hz. Other people please correct me as I may be incorrect, but from what I remember, pretty much every tv sub $1k will be LED edge lit LCD. For gaming and movies for your budget (and being a huge Sony fan) if you have the space get the Sony XBR55x810c. Don't worry, it will seem big for a bit then you will settle into it. Same thing when I got my 55" Panny plasma!

Well, honestly, at this point I'd almost recommend waiting a couple of months. We'll see everyone releasing their new models, which means last years models will come down in price even more, or perhaps something that would be better all around would come out in that price range. Though I can't imagine someone besting the D series for pure gaming.

Vizio is the only company making TV's with sub-20ms input lag currently, and actually the D series is the very best performer that is currently being made by anyone at any price at 13.5ms. It also has low motion blur, which cements it's place further as the best pure gaming TV out (for games like FPS etc at least). The Vizio M and P aren't bad either at about 18ms, but they have some motion blur issues, which subtracts from its gaming performance.

The Samsung JS7000 is a pretty good game performer with 27ms lag and good motion, but it's an IPS panel, and has really bad contrast. The JU6400 is cheaper, and also a good gaming performer, but has the same issue with contrast due to being IPS (im talking less than 1000:1, while Vizio's are doing 4000:1). You'd also be playing the Samsung panel lottery, which as rtings found out means that you could end up with worse input lag depending on the panel.

If I personally, were going to buy a 55in TV right now for 1000 dollars, I'd get the Sony X810C. However, my preferences are slightly different from yours, so I dont know how much you value one thing over the other.

Here is the rtings review. They still have it as being a great gaming TV with 35ms input (which is still better than most), no blur, so good for sports, and excellent contrast at 5000:1. You're going to get better PQ than the Vizio, slightly better contrast, as well as judder free movie playback due to a 120hz panel. However, I do watch a lot of movies, so the lack of judder and improved PQ is a big thing for me.

So, it comes down to what you're after. If you have no plans to really watch movies with it, and want the best competitive gaming TV that also isnt bad at sports, the Vizio D is the one to get. It actually might be the best competitive gaming TV you can even buy currently at any price. 13ms of input lag with no/low motion blur is no joke. You'll have to make sure you have it on the right input, and all of the image processing turned off etc to get that performance (same with any TV though), but the TV is capable of it. The contrast isn't bad either, with 4300:1 static contrast even after you turn off the local dimming (everyone recommends just turning it off).

If you look at the input lag chart on rtings, you'll see several samsungs with decent input lag, but be aware that they all are either well out of your price range, or use IPS panels which gives them very bad contrast.

So there's my 2 cents. If you want the best TV for 1000 dollars, thats also pretty darn good at gaming, get the X810C. If you want the best gaming television, buy the D series.

That looks really impressive, 4k and has hdr. Is there any catch? Do you own it? Was looking for only 1080p, but this is an impressive TV.

EDIT: I've seen some people say the older model is better? https://www.amazon.com/Sony-XBR55X810C-55-Inch-Ultra-Smart/dp/B0148OZLOS

Can someone help me out and let me know if this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0148OZLOS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_5UaKxbKBDP9TD supports HDR? I haven't been able to figure out if it does.

I'll check when I get home. Hopefully they will update?

Edit: this is the one I bought:
