I've met both authors, too. Both are incredibly passionate educators within the audio community and just overall nice people.
"Fourier" is the gateway term for the construction of arbitrary waveforms from sines. It's a fascinating topic. The Sound Fx book goes in a fair amount of math on the wave forms.

I love the Izhaki book (Mixing Audio) it's pretty interesting and goes pretty far in depth. Another good book that I like to read idly is Alex Case's Sound FX Book. He's got a very frank and entertaining way of writing that keeps you interested
