You should be OK without total proficiency based on the reality of how most language classes are structured and the materials that are used imo, especially if you teach Spanish 3 or lower. As it is, I would only truly caution you to avoid AP Spanish.
But is there a reason you feel you can't bolster your proficiency and fluency with daily practice? Talk to people every day. Write every day. Post on Spanish Reddit subs. Watch Spanish news. Listen to music. Read in Spanish as much as possible. Drill verb tenses and new vocabulary.
Edit: This sort of book is great for practice.
A great textbook for grammar is Spanish Grammar in Context https://www.amazon.co.uk/Spanish-Grammar-Context-Languages/dp/0415723477/ref=dp_ob_title_bk
They will give you a good chance of seeing the grammar points used in specific contexts. I would think of what you want to say in English, and then pick out different grammar points you can study so you can say it in Spanish.
