In American Power and the New Mandarins (in the second essay I believe: can't quite recall the name), Chomsky cites Jackson's work on the subject as the standard one. I believe he describes it as an orthodox liberal history, but of high general quality nevertheless. You'll probably want to look elsewhere for sources specifically pertaining to the Catalonian Revolution though.
You've got my attention too, because I'm also studying Spanish, and I'm never opposed to expanding my knowledge of history anyway. I'll try to find this at a local bookseller first, but Amazon.com has Jackson's Spanish Republic and the Civil War, 1931-1939 for those who may be interested.
