Are you either unaware of the Stalingrad Airlift or suggesting Hitler and Goering didn't think it would succeed but did it anyway?
Well either way it is common knowledge and there are lots of sources. One highly renowned one is Stopped at Stalingrad by Joel S A Hayward
The fundamental concepts haven't changed much at all. Airlifts have limitations, especially in a conflict zone, even more so these days with things like SAM technology.
