I got a couple.

I feel that every PC needs a card reader panel. There are a variety of such panels with multiple combinations of connection, not just cards, such as eSATA, charge ports, additional USB ports, some even come with USB-C ports.

Here's an example:
Kingwin KW525-3U3CR Multi-Function Super Speed USB 3.0 Hub w/ Card Reader Includes 1 USB 3.1 Port + 1 ESATA Port. Transfer Speed up to 5 Gbps Bandwidth, Fits any 5.25” Computer Case Front Bay https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01K0RPTN0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_KHL4Cb8XWSH1Q

Or if you are one of those people that still want to have an optical drive, but also need more room for other drives and ports, well fear not!

It allowed you to use a laptop slim disk drive, while adding usb ports, and providing one 2.5" drive bay!

Icydock makes one that offs the USB ports in favor of a second 2.5" drive bay, for either docking or your SSDs spiffy new home.

I don't know much about Macs but if it's a standard slim ODD, there are cases directly compatible with them. Otherwise, you can buy a slim to 5.25" adapter. If it's a proprietary Apple format, forget it, but you could try to use it with a SATA to USB adapter.

As for the motherboard, as I said earlier, it's all compatible: i7-6700, 950 pro, etc.

Yeah, unfortunately that case only has 1 5.25" bay. But you can get something like this and then get a slimline optical drive:

Hm, looks like they use a slimline laptop drive.

There are adapters for this kind of thing. Just make sure your new case actually has a 5.25" bay.

If not that would also not be a problem. External CD/DVD drives are pretty cheap.

They make adapters for slim optical drives to fit into 5.25 inch bays, and this one has USB 3.0 ports and space for an SSD or slim hard drive

I think there's another company that makes one that looks a little better, I'll try to find a link.

Edit: Never mind, all I could find was this.

Are you talking about the disc drive? I just assumed we were talking about hard drives, my bad. If that's the case, you can buy this;

http://www.amazon.com/Syba-5-25-Inch-Adapter-2-5-Inch-SY-MRA55005/dp/B0081IOSOW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1406812820&sr=8-1&keywords=slim+optical+drive+to+5.25

u/jamvanderloeff · 1 pointr/buildapc

Yep, that's the kind of cable you'd need, here's one in stock in a bit of a different form factor https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-6-Inch-Slimline-Adapter-SLSATAADAP6/dp/B009JXKQ9O/ref=pd_sim_147_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=BVWF9961S8P8GQR4R25D, you would then plug in both SATA data to the motherboard and power to the PSU.

Note you won't have a place to mount it in a regular case either, so unless you're going to figure out your own mount solution you'd need a bay adapter such as that https://www.amazon.com/Syba-Adapter-Optical-Drive-Components/dp/B0081IOSOW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1510203832&sr=8-1&keywords=5.25+slim+bay+adapter

Can also convert to external with one of these https://www.amazon.com/Firstcom-External-Enclosure-Optical-Blu-Ray/dp/B0151PHSNA/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1510204058&sr=1-3&keywords=usb+slim+odd

The cheaper option is to just get a regular desktop drive.
