You seem to be talking about the Asus quite fondly, is the Asus models better in performance than the Nighthawk? I came across these models which is in my range for the budget.
Actually by speed I meant, netgear has limited the bandwidth of the routers for Amazon and Best Buy using their firmware. AC2400 can go up to 2400mbps but AC1700 only 1700mbps, I was wondering using the third party would unlock it.

I just bought this to test but if it is anything like their NAS products then it will be great. You can connect to it to manage it over the internet and it will email you if/when it cannot connect to the VPN.
Never connected it to a Cisco ASA though.
