Very fine books, I loved them as a girl.
The brothers were Stefan and Damon, the girl she's talking about was Katherine, whom they both loved. In the modern day, the feud is over a girl named Elena.
(They were far better than Twilight by the way.)

There seems to be a 'Return to' series now on pre-order, that one I haven't read, but I thought the others were excellent books for the level.
