Barring sales, which are frequent but not reliable, it's a lot easier to find an older physical copy for cheaper than digital distribution because permanent price drops are far more rare on the latter. Case in point, on Steam Morrowind GOTY is still $19.99 8 years after it came out, to get it any cheaper you have to wait for a sale. You can get it for half as much at any time, less if you shop around and even less if you go out and scour the bargain bins.
The problem with physical copies is availability and convenience, not price. Ephemeral sales notwithstanding, prices on DD tend to stick for longer.
