Reddit mentions of The Everything Buddhism Book: A complete introduction to the history, traditions, and beliefs of Buddhism, past and present

You sound very much like me. I'm new to Buddhism as well. There is so much information online, it seems almost overwhelming. I found myself drawn to Theravadan Buddhism, because it involves less ritual, ceremony, and other things that seem a bit too "religiousey" to me. I'm currently reading this book and it's quite thorough. I just attended a silent meditation retreat, and you should be able to find one in your area. I like the dharma talks here, but there are plenty more online.
