Not so. There is not a single surviving contemporary record of Jesus. There were historians who wrote then, and about the time, but only Josephus (writing much later) has an entry - and that is most likely faked at a later date.

That's a bit like saying "a bloke called John was born and died". Still: I'd be interested to hear what evidence he means, because it's new to me.

If that's "The Good Man Jesus and the Scoundrel Christ" by Phillip Pullman, then I also have it. It is a very good novel, but claims to be nothing other than entertaining fiction :)

There is only one source for that: the Bible. Which is not a reliable source to say the least (contradictions, written long after the events, not written by eye witnesses etc etc).
