There's also a great book: https://www.amazon.com/Hedge-Fund-Mirage-Illusion-Money/dp/1118164318

There are plenty of billionaire hedge fund managers, but it's funny how you never hear of anyone who got rich from investing in them.

All good points. Another one to consider is the high performance fees of hedge funds on average- the good ones may provide alpha, but at the cost of "2 and 20." (Some, such as Ren Tech, have even higher fees.) There's a book out called "The Hedge Fund Mirage" that details this point- essentially, the fees often eat away most of the gains. I haven't read it personally but I think it's a compelling argument, especially for all of those funds outside of the top performers.
