The author accompanied this group of Jews from different backgrounds, and learns from them along the way. So you're presented with different rabbis (from different denominations) explaining what Judaism means to them. As a bonus, you also learn a little about Tibetan Buddhism and India as well. It's also a great adventure story as well. The overarching theme of the book is the transformation of the author from a secular Jew into a more religious Jew through his time spent with these religious leaders. This is a book about someone's faith being renewed and has a lot of spirituality, so it might be a book for you.
