>and is beautiful
Yeah, I can second this recommendation. This book blew me away, and the central relationship is convincing and powerful. It made me realise there aren't enough gay relationships in fantasy.
Another one is The Line of Beauty, by Alan Hollinghurst, which won the Booker prize. I remember not liking it all that much, but the rest of my modern literature class enjoyed it more. Either way if what you're after is a book written by a talented author with a convincing exploration of self discovery and sexuality from a homosexual standpoint it certainly delivers, I just found the plot a tad dull.
