This has not been a good reading month for me. Too much other stuff going on, most of my reading has been focused on political news and analysis. Should probably lay off twitter a little bit.
I am part-way through a few books though, including one that I think is worth a mention. The White Bone by Barbara Gowdy follows a herd of African elephants through a series of disasters, both ecological and man-made. It dives deep into the elephants' language and culture, presenting a matriarchal society still based on rule by strength. It's a really neat concept for a book, asking "what if elephants, just as they are, happen to be sentient?" Anyone who enjoyed Watership Down or The Bees by Laline Paull might dig this one. Be aware, it's super-violent and dark.
