My kid is 6 months old now and growing out of a flat head. He hated tummy time and from day one slept flat on his back without stirring!
First- obviously you need to keep an eye on it and encourage tummy time and all that but don't stress too much. Once they start rolling and squirming around more the problem starts to fix itself.

He loved the crinkly noises and the little rattle/teether thing as well as the mirror. If you don't want to spend money I would definitely recommend trying a stand up mirror in front of their face. I found this pillow better than a boppy type pillow which was simply too big. We have the girl version because we didn't know if he was going to be a he or a she and really, who cares. I assume the boy version is the same but don't actually know for sure.
