The airwire units are zero-configuration, plug one into the landlords router (one of the LAN ports), one into your router (into the WAN port). Setup the router to your liking (SSID, encryption).

With this solution, as opposed to a mesh solution, there will be less hassle, and much more bandwidth.

If you are tech savvy and can deal with the hassle, you can buy a single Ubiquiti Nanostation Loco M2 instead of the pair of airwires and use it as a client off of the landlords AP, but it may not be as fast or stable.

I use a wireless bridge. 2 directional antennas pointed at each other. It makes it thru 2 walls and 300ft with >30Mbs (haven't tested past my ips speeds).

I can't promise a 1000ft thru woods but its worth a look.

I use Ubiquiti AirWire https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003Z53K8Q for some things at work, and they work great.

Normally I would advise you to get a wifi bridge like this here. You would need another access point at your grandma's house to create another wifi network (if I'm not mistaken).

Since, however, you said that your grandma doesn't really need a very fast Internet connection a stupid and cheap repeater like [this](http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-WA 850RE-Universal-Wireless-Indicator/dp/B00E98O7GC/) might suffice. Make sure that the signal on the "good" end of her house is actual usable.

You really have to think about the future use of the Internet and if it will be changing. I don't want to tell you to buy a repeater and in two months you introduce your grandma to Netflix and then you have to buy again.

edit: What is also a factor is the area you want to cover. If the house is rather big, it would be better you use a bridge and place the wifi access point somewhere in the center.

There is another unit that claims 108 Mbs, but you're right, the one I posted is lousy. I'm going to call a cable guy to see what can be done.

I am curious if it would be better than WiFi for remote computers running the Steam Link hardware.

You could also consider using an wireless Ethernet extender (transparent bridge) and add a second access point.
