I feel like I'm posting about USB too much here, but people keep asking because it's easy to get confused about it. I just copied the table I made a while ago in a comment and added FAQs and notes for outside the US.

I hope this answers what people are really looking for better than the other threads.

Do you have some specific need I didn't answer? Have a USB-C charger you're curious about that isn't listed? Ask in a comment. Just keep in mind that (other than the iPad one) USB-A chargers won't give you good speeds. This includes the chargers bundled with even the most recent phones by Samsung, Apple, Sony, LG, and HTC.

I'll use this comment to note some USB-C chargers I'm aware of but don't recommend:

---------

Charging speeds vary

These chargers can give the Switch great speeds sometimes, but usually they're closer to just "okay". It seems to be random every time you plug it in. If the Switch is completely turned off (not just in sleep) when you plug it in, you'll almost always get those "great" speeds for as long as you keep it plugged in even after turning the Switch back on and playing. This happens because Nintendo's implementation of USB Power Delivery (USB PD) is very buggy. They're a hassle to use right for now, so I don't recommend them, especially since there are better alternatives now.

Charger|Price (USD)|Link|Notes
--|--|--|--
Anker PowerPort+ 5|$39.99|Amazon|Use the USB-C port. It also offers 4 USB-A ports. No USB cables included.
RAVPower 26800mAh USB-PD battery|$79.99|Amazon|
UGREEN 30W USB-PD charger|$17.99|Amazon|No cable included.

----------

Safety issues

These don't damage the Switch, but they can damage other USB-C cables and devices, especially if you plug them in to something that doesn't make sense, like another charger. If you know how to use them right and you're careful, you won't damage anything, but why risk it? Get something else.

Great but expensive

If you have a USB-C laptop, feel free to get one of these, but otherwise don't bother. Plenty of chargers in my OP work just as well with Switch and are much cheaper.

Innergie 45W USB-C charger|$59.99|Amazon|Works with the dock, great with laptops and phones too.

---------

Unconfirmed speeds (and expensive)

These chargers are also too expensive to recommend. They probably work great, but I haven't seen any reports of people actually trying any of them. They all probably work with the dock too. If anybody has one of these, please tell me if it works with the dock.

I got a USB C HDMI dongle that works with the Nintendo switch and out of curiosity I plugged in my note 8. It booted into Dex. I didn't realize you couldn't just use it anytime.

It was this [MYRIANN 1080P HDMI Type-C Adapter Dock for Nintendo Switch, TV HDMI Converter Cable for Nintendo Switch (Silver)] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07539N7JR/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_mc7TOFbPCLFLN)

But it needs more power than a regular USB brick so I got
This
[UGREEN USB C Charger 30W PD USB Type C Wall Charger Adapter for Macbook, Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, Nintendo Switch, Samsung Galaxy S8, Lumia 950 XL, Google] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01GFE90H8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_ohcVZOjAubvGo)

And this
[Anker PowerLine+ C to C 2.0 cable (6ft), High Durability, for USB Type-C Devices Including Galaxy S8, S8+, Google Pixel, Nexus 6P, Huawei Matebook] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LNA0XCU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_Y7S2DMZV2ZGhJ)

These work with the switch and my phone went into Dex mode when I plugged it in with these.

USB-PD is an open standard, and the Lightning license is free.

Charger - $17

Cable - $10

u/retnuh730 · 5 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Get a USB Power Delivery capable charger like this and a USB C-C cable and it will charge as fast as the regular AC adapter does.

The switch uses the USB Power Delivery standard to charge faster

u/atinyblip · 5 pointsr/iphone

The Apple 12W charger is the cheapest way to get the fastest charging rate without going the USB-C route. 5.2V @ 2.4A.

If you want USB-C, a third-party charger that does USB PD—like this Ugreen Type C 30W charger—and this Baseus USB-C to Lightning cable will do.

u/CarbuncleMew · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I use this one and it charges almost as fast as the official one, even when playing in handheld.

Incorrect. A standard USB c phone charger without power delivery means the switch will pull just under 5v and almost 2amps for just under 10 watts of power and since it draws 8.9 or so max (more if the joy cons are discharged) your looking at either maintaining charge or losing charge 90% of the time and if it does charge while being used it will be incredibly slow. It's fine for charging in cleep mode but other then that useless.

A USB c PD charger is a must such as the pixel XL one or something like this.

UGREEN USB Type C Wall Charger 30W with Power Delivery for Nintendo Switch, Macbook, Google Chromebook Pixel, Nexus 5X 6P, LG G5, HTC 10, New Nokia N1(Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01GFE90H8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_s6q7yb482JTWD

The think you have to look for is that it's a PD (power delivery) charger and that it supports multiple voltages and amperages.

As of now that's probably your best bet for an on the go charger as far as a dock replacement nothing is confirmed working as of yet with the dock other then the official charger.

I dont quite get your desire. Do you have the original charger and you are just looking for a smaller charger because the original one is too large? For me that is difficult to believe seeing as the original is 2 1/8" x 2 1/8" x 1 1/8" which is extremely compact for a laptop charger. the dart that was linked to you for $99 is smaller than that but only a small amount so.
Other laptop chargers like
highly rated on amazon
made by google
are both larger than the one that comes with the cb+/pro
the cbpro comes with a charger that tops out at 15volts at 2 amps so that is 30 watts. meaning the google charger is more expensive since it can charge a larger laptop. Also you can google 30 watt usb-c charger to find other chargers that should work with the cbpro.

If size is your only concern you can buy a high quality phone charger and it will trickle charge your laptop meaning it will only charge when it is off and it will charge at an extremely slow rate. It is tough to say which of the phone chargers to buy this article seems good. I use my pixel charger sometimes to trickle charge and it is a surperb quality charger. It should be noted though that it is only marginally smaller than the charger that comes with the cbpro

My mom bought this one. It fast charges and feels very high quality. I've compared it with stock charger and it charges at the exact same speed. Both phones reached 100% at the exact same minute.

Thanks for the reply, should've known it wouldn't be quite so simple!

Would something like the following work?

UGREEN 29W Charger.
I've been using this for 5 months, it charges a tad slower than with a 45W charger, but it's very, very small.
For that price, it's nothing less than superb.

  1. Anker tends to be a really good brand with great CS. My current wireless stand charger is from RavPower and I’ve been happy with it so far. You’ll get little differences in different brands/models as far as color, size, status light, etc. so a little research goes a long way toward making sure you get your preferences down. Back when I had my iPhone 8 Plus, I got a fast charger from Ugreen and a 2m USB to Lightning cable and it worked very well. You also get a fast charger and cable included in the box.

  2. I’m not super familiar with Android data transfer, but there will be an option when you’re setting up your phone to transfer your data from an android. This article might help.
u/forestman11 · 1 pointr/GooglePixel

So of course, Anker is safe bet, but getting the proper USB-PD ones tend to be a little expensive right now.

If you want to save money, I recommend this. It definitely charges right and it's also made of metal so it feels pretty sturdy.

I will say I had one problem though. After I used it for a while, the pins the connect the wall plug into the adapter itself actually pops out if I don't pull it out right, exposing the inside. It's super easy to pop back in but if it does it, I would just glue it back like I did so it doesn't happen again. I'm not saying this will happen to you but it did to mine.

It needs to be USB-C so something like this would work.
