It's really outdated for a 144hz monitor. Best to just go with something like this https://www.amazon.com/ViewSonic-XG2402-FreeSync-Monitor-DisplayPort/dp/B075D1B4SV

u/Brettehwarrior · 19 pointsr/bapcsalescanada

Wow, when you said Amazon inflates their prices you weren't kidding

u/StickmanSham · 17 pointsr/Unexpected

I don't think it was a higher refresh rate that did it, but instead just plasmas/early LCDs of the time having a high input delay.

Also, 144hz isn't that expensive anymore. I remember I once bought a 320 dollar 144hz that turned out to be fake 144hz (displays at 144hz, but skips every two frames, bringing it back to around 60hz) Around that price point nowadays, you can get 240hz

u/itsthemoney27 · 16 pointsr/buildapcsales

Isn’t this like a really good deal? I was gonna get this monitor but this Acer one seems to be the completely better choice.

u/aeSliver · 10 pointsr/bapcsalescanada

All time low.

Reminder to ignore the "$3000 discount" on the amazon page.

u/PlumpAF · 10 pointsr/bapcsalescanada

Its an i5 8250u + touchscreen, for $529 what do you mean

If you can find a similarly spec'd laptop near this price let me know

With that logic this is the best deal ever

u/podboi · 7 pointsr/buildapc

Nah it's not a dumb move, the tower will last you a while and maxing out its performance is a good thing.

IMO tolerate your TV for now and do what /u/linguisticabstractn said then get this once you get some money - ol' reliable XG2402, it's more than twice your budget but it's one of the best bang for your buck monitors (unless I missed it getting dethroned). It regularly goes on sales too.

Neither. The ViewSonic XG2401 or newer XG2402 are much better monitors than those listed. Amazing (if not best for 1080p tn panels) colors, also freesync.

Edit: I see I was downvoted-- could whoever did so elaborate as to why?

u/julfdorf · 4 pointsr/buildapc

You want a FreeSync monitor for an RX 580, G-SYNC is only compatible with Nvidia graphic cards. FreeSync on the other hand are fully compatible with AMD, and also has limited compatibility with Nvidia.

Since you mentioned that the PC is mainly for competitive Fortnite in another post I highly recommend a TN monitor such as: Acer XFA240.

Reasons being: It's in your budget, I don't think 144hz vs 165hz will matter (I personally don't notice a significant difference), TN have faster "pixel response time" than other panel types (which matters a lot for competitive gaming), and you won't really notice any major difference between 144hz TN monitors due to almost all of them using the same panel, just different brands basically and the only difference are the technology "around it". And I'd say Acer, ViewSonic and AOC are the best when it comes to that.

Some other alternatives are the [ViewSonic XG2402] (https://www.amazon.com/ViewSonic-XG2402-FreeSync-Advanced-Ergonomics/dp/B075D1B4SV) and [ViewSonic XG240R] (https://www.amazon.com/ViewSonic-XG240R-FreeSync-Advanced-Ergonomics/dp/B07L53SFGG), if you want something more fancy with USB ports, but these are slightly more expensive. If you were thinking about the BenQ Zowie XL2411P, I'd say all of these are a much better choice.

u/CianXIII · 4 pointsr/buildapcsales

Here's the XG2402 which has the better panel response mentioned above at $220

u/Dragynfyre · 3 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Most 144Hz monitors support DisplayPort. Just don't get the Acer GN246HL/GN276HL or the BenQ XL2411/2411z and you're good.

I recommend this one as a cheap option:
https://www.amazon.com/Acer-XFA240-bmjdpr-Response-Technology/dp/B06ZYHZ6R6/

This one has better image quality but costs $40 more if you can swing it
https://www.amazon.com/ViewSonic-XG2402-FreeSync-Monitor-DisplayPort/dp/B075D1B4SV/

u/ireallylikechikin · 3 pointsr/buildapc

i've heard better things about the XG2402 than the VG248QE- here

u/HighSynergy · 3 pointsr/bapcsalescanada

If you can wait until Black Friday, this Viewsonic on Amazon is heavily recommended and tends to go on sale for < $300 CAD.

u/xexiled · 3 pointsr/buildapc

Sorry for the long response time. IPS panels have better colors and viewing angles. TN panels on the other hand have higher refresh rates and response times.

You have to pick one or the other at this price range though. I however prefer TN panels because I like the smooth 144hz refresh rates and 1ms response times. You on the other hand might want the better colors.

Here are some IPS monitors that are recommended often.

u/atcasual · 3 pointsr/buildapc

Switch the monitor to this:

https://www.amazon.com/ViewSonic-XG2402-FreeSync-Advanced-Ergonomics/dp/B075D1B4SV?th=1

It has the same specs, but its cheaper and it’s 1 year old as opposed to 5 years old like the monitor you picked.

u/ReuJesEst · 2 pointsr/buildapcsales

im loving this one right now. Looks nice and has a good weight to the base.

u/jpsjorge · 2 pointsr/buildapc

If you want to have a better GPU latter I think 1080p 144Hz is ideal.. and with a 1060 6Gb you already reach 144 fps right now in some games e don't know your budget if a "normal good" monitor 1080 144 Hz
->https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B075D1B4SV/ they're like 250$
For a higher budget you can have like 27' monitor with gsync that already go for prices like 500$

u/jaykresge · 2 pointsr/Monitors

The VG248QE is a model from 2013 that had a revision in, I believe, 2015. It's outdated and lacks some basic improvements found in today's monitors.

https://www.amazon.ca/ViewSonic-XG2402-FreeSync-Monitor-DisplayPort/dp/B075D1B4SV/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8

I know that this is slightly more expensive at $365 'eh' bucks, but it is considered by many to be the best option in the 24" 1080p TN 144hz range.

The MG248QR supposedly is an improved version of the VG248QE (with the MG248Q in between), but still carries over some of its flaws. I'd spend the extra ~$40 on the ViewSonic.

u/ErikJHealey · 2 pointsr/bapcsalescanada

You're in luck Here is one %90 off!

u/IAmJoopis · 2 pointsr/techsupport

Really? So if I connect an HDMI cable from my Acer VX 15 to this will it be able to get up to 1080p 120hz?

u/johnnywahl · 2 pointsr/Amd

There are a few good choices out there. My favorite is the AOC G2590FX and it's on sale right now for a killer deal. The other popular choice around here is the XG2402. Both popular options.

u/Analbub · 2 pointsr/Monitors

The 1060 max-q isn't powerful enough for gaming at 1440p on any new or demanding game, so I wouldn't recommend it unless you plan on upgrading in the future or plan on building a desktop at some point that is more powerful. Also if you primarily game I would recommend 144hz over 1440p. I would stick with either 1080p 60 hz or 1080p 144hz, but the 1060 probably won't be able to fully use that 144hz on most games. I have the msi gs65, which has 1060 max-q as well, and it has a 1080p 144hz panel in it, and I get 100 fps and above on less demanding games, but any AAA or graphically intensive game struggles to get above 60. My final thoughts before recommendations would be an ips or va panel over a tn, because the response time downgrade is (imo) worth it for the amazing color reproduction. Also at 144hz i find that g-sync and freesync are not that useful and find the additional price not worth it. If you are only gaming and doing competitive games then TN is fine though. Anyway, here are my recommendations

If you aren't into competitive games and want good colors for watching videos and/or photo editing:

1080p 60hz: Dell U2414H

1080p 144hz: Acer ED273

If you are into competitive gaming and want the fastest response time here are a few options:

AOC G2460PF

Viewsonic XG2402

Acer XFA240

u/KING_of_Trainers69 · 2 pointsr/buildapc

>Its the cheapest 144@1080p

There's a reason for that.

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/msi-optix-g24c-24-1920x1080-va-freesync-144hz-1ms-curved-widescreen-gaming-monitor-mo-001-ms.html

A VA G24C can be had for £210 (£200 if you can get free shipping from overclockers.co.uk)

https://smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/B071RP6WVL/

A VA CF24G73 is around £250. same panel as the G24C with QD LEDs for a wider colour gamut.

VA offers better contrast, better colour reproduction and wider viewing angles than TN monitors at the cost of slower response times and a small hit to the clarity of text. I would go VA, but there is a range of TN monitors which outstrip the ageing VG248QE.

https://www.cclonline.com/product/viewsonic-xg2401-gaming-monitor-24-inch-1920-x-1080-full-hd-tn-panel-amd-freesync-144hz-black-xg2401/

https://smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/B075D1B4SV/

Viewsonic XG2401 £195 and the updated XG2402 for £219. Both of them far superior monitors to the VG248QE.

I would personally get the Samsung, but there will hopefully be sales on at least some monitors of this spec on Black Friday, so I would wait until then to make any decisions on this.

u/hfamCagliostro · 2 pointsr/monitor

XG2402, it's pretty good imo.

Edit: I think it's pretty valuable for it's and some sources state is has very low input lag too.

u/Vooklife · 2 pointsr/buildapc

I mean, it's your money. I wouldn't suggest the monitor you picked tho. It's got blown out colors, banding and ghosting issues.

This is what I would get if I had to choose a 24in 144hz without gsync.

u/snoopy82481 · 1 pointr/buildapc

The gsync panels have an additional piece of hardware for controlling the refresh rate changes. Plus they undergo a tight certification process. Is it worth the additional 200 usd, I don't think so. I have 2 freesync monitors and haven't had any issues with them. Viotek 27" 1440p@144hz and ViewSonic 24" 1080p@144hz

u/laydros · 1 pointr/buildapc

Generally:

  • IPS is best color, slowest refresh rate and response
  • TN is worst colors, cheapest to get high refresh rate/low response.
  • VA kinda sits in the middle

you can spend more and get an IPS that has better responsiveness, and a TN panel isn't always garbage. But these are the general trend.

I've seen VA used more on 4k than on 1080p or 1440p.

See if you can visit a friend or look in a store to make sure 144Hz is worth if for you. I think if you are really serious about FPS games if it's nice to have, but I think right now the community is making it seem more important than it really is.

I'm fairly certain that a 1ms response time vs a 4ms response time is not worth anything.

There are certainly some options around $200 for 1080p 144Hz. Just a few at random :

  • ViewSonic
  • Acer with FreeSync but only 75Hz

Here is the rtings guide to budget gaming displays

    Happy hunting
u/FINALLY_I_TRIED · 1 pointr/buildapc

I'd recommend this monitor instead. It's the successor of the XG2401 and is pretty much state of the art in terms of monitors.

u/095179005 · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

If you're spending that much, just get the ViewSonic XG2402.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075D1B4SV/

However the strobing function of the other monitors might be useful, depending on your gameplay style. Strobing adds a few ms of input lag, but clears up motion blur.

From BlurBusters:

>Some gameplay tactics in CS:GO will benefit from faster human reaction-times from less motion blur, out-compensating the slight input lag penalty. Whether the slight lag penalty is worth it, depends on you as a gamer & the types of game, and the gameplay tactics you use.

u/pastrypalace · 1 pointr/Monitors

Does IPS vs TN make a big difference?

Edit: I really appreciate your help and am sorry to keep bugging you.
The Viewsonic XG2402 and this BenQ Zowie Monitor are the same price. For the most part they seem like the same thing. Reviews seem pretty good for both of them. Any I always hear people raving about BenQ monitors. Any thoughts?

u/Fraudnosis · 1 pointr/buildapc

Viewsonic XG2402 https://www.amazon.com/ViewSonic-XG2402-FreeSync-Advanced-Ergonomics/dp/B075D1B4SV great display with freesync and gsync compatible. Uses DisplayPort or Hdmi for 144hz

u/workthrowaway444 · 1 pointr/buildapc

144hz for sure, want this for competitive gaming. Not really sure between resolutions cause I don't know enough but I'm not trying to go crazy. 24" is fine. Right now I'm looking to get this one https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075D1B4SV/?tag=pcpapi-20

Thoughts on that one?

u/IAmNotNathaniel · 1 pointr/buildapc

Can someone tell me the difference between these 2 monitors? Other than the model number and the price, I can't really see any big differences:

ViewSonic XG2402

ViewSonic XG2401

When I google about them, it seems the biggest difference is that the 02 has a slightly better response time - but I have no idea if I will even notice that. Will I?

I don't competitive game whatsoever - mostly older stuff (e.g. I am looking forward to finally playing things like Bioshock Infinite and Witcher 1 this year...)

Was waiting for the 02 to go on sale again, but I'd rather not wait much longer.. and would love to save $60 by getting the 01 if I won't be unhappy with it.

u/danger__man · 1 pointr/buildapc

Let me know what you decide upon for monitor, I'm in the market for one as well. I'm not sure which one is best, but I'm looking at these 3:

- MSI Optix MAG24C - https://www.amazon.ca/G24C-FreeSync-Monitor-Non-Glare-Refresh/dp/B07794JYLJ?th=1

- ViewSonic XG2402 - https://www.amazon.ca/ViewSonic-XG2402-FreeSync-Advanced-Ergonomics/dp/B075D1B4SV?th=1

- BenQ ZOWIE XL2411P - https://www.amazon.ca/BenQ-Response-eQualizer-Vibrance-Adjustable/dp/B01H5KKQTM

I believe the AOC C24G1 and MSI Optix MAG24C are same/similar.

u/ko26 · 1 pointr/bapcsalescanada

ViewSonic XG2402 can rotate to portrait. Widely recommended gaming monitor as well. TN panel though, if that sort of thing bothers you.

I've been looking at the ViewSonic XG2402. It would put me a tad over my budget, but I also keep seeing a few comments around of people saying to wait for the AOC 24GU2U IPS that should be hitting the market soon. This is where I start to second guess myself.

I haven't bought anything yet, and the Ram prices are jumping around, so I might change that to save a few bucks. I also might wait and see if the 3600 has a sale, since every other Ryzen seems to have gone on sale.

u/mbbird · 1 pointr/buildapcsales

How might this compare to the XG2402?

I'm not sure how I feel about a curved monitor. Intended use is competitive games.

u/MaximumCSGO · 1 pointr/buildapc

From the reviews I read, it's pretty small and not the best Ultrawide experience you can get.

I'd probably go for this ViewSonic one or this LG one

u/Warskull · 1 pointr/SiegeAcademy

First off, before you even think about investing in a 144Hz monitor, can your GPU give you the framerate you want in this game?

Beyond that, monitor technology is to the point where everything is pretty good. The more expensive ones support things like HDR or are ultrawides.

You have three panel techs, TN, VA, and IPS. TN is the older tech, it is cheaper to make and tends to have better response times. IPS has superior color and viewing angle, but the response times and refresh rates suffer as a result. VA panels are in the middle. You can still get excellent response times on VA and IPS monitors, but they will be a lot more expensive as a result.

Viewsonic and Acer makes some really good 1080p 144Hz monitors. They offer great budget TN panels. You can get 24 inches 1080p for about $200.

Viewsonic is probably the best budget option.

Samsung has some VA panel for a bit more. You'll get a nicer image.

If you have a good graphics card and are ok with spending a bit more Acer has a good 1440p monitor.

If you start going into higher end tech like HDR the prices start to go way up.

u/xaidyn1 · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

I'm going to go with the Eluktronics instead of the XPS. I'm looking at https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FPGPQXL/ref=twister_B07FPGBPGB?_encoding=UTF8&th=1 the $1299 one. I saw the 60 Hz, 480GB SSD and 16GB RAM is only $50 more though, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FPC2S6B/ref=twister_B07FPGBPGB?_encoding=UTF8&th=1. I'd be giving up the 144 Hz, but could I just hook up a 144 Hz monitor through DisplayPort and play on it, basically substituting the desktop for a laptop (external keyboard/mouse, etc)? I currently use https://www.amazon.com/ViewSonic-XG2402-FreeSync-Monitor-DisplayPort/dp/B075D1B4SV

I think the double storage space alone makes it worth it, and if I can just use a monitor at home, the 60 Hz vs 144 Hz doesn't seem worth it since I'd rarely be gaming using the laptop screen itself.

My main issue would be if I could turn off the RGB keyboard lights. The manual showed some settings for it but I've never used Eluktronics before.

The only thing XPS has on these Eluktronics is the thickness, which I don't really care for. The weight is similar and the specs are way better + getting a new one vs certified refurbished.

Also, what's the warranty on the Eluktronics? Their websites come with 1 year with the products I saw, but since this is on Amazon, I'm not sure whether that'd come too. I could only find the 30-day warranty about them. Do you have experience with Eluktronics as a company too? They seem fairly new.

https://www.amazon.ca/ViewSonic-XG2402-FreeSync-Advanced-Ergonomics/dp/B075D1B4SV This is a really popular pick and fits under your budget. I actually have one, although it is now my second monitor. My main monitor is a 240hz panel.

The XG2402 is a TN panel, but it seems like you play competitive titles, so I think it is a good fit. There are some IPS panels, but they approach exceeding your budget.

@OP, Austin. Bros, go for XG2402, I remember its on discount now 235 so you lost only 60 bucks for even better tn panel :)
From what I know of Omen by Hp. It is pretty good built but preset color and calibrated color is what XG2402/2401 have over it.
But regardless, I think both is good deal :) as I can voucher for both product.

And it's also G-Sync compatible

the xg2401 can hit that price range. it's one of the best 144 hz monitors. i have the newer xg2402 where the main diff is the stand. faster melee feels even better than a crt on my xg2402, but it's prob placebo. having the option to play melee in 1080p is also really nice.

edit: here i found it on amazon. it seems to be on sale rn for $160

edit: seems like it went back up to $200, but u can also get the xg2402 for $200

Trying to decide between that and this one...

EDIT: IPS and $10 cheaper vs having sound and better customer service....sounds like IPS is the way to go?
