I own this and it's pretty decent.

I am kinda settled on getting the ViewSonic XG2703-GS but I am still looking at other monitors. To be honest, I have basically narrowed my sights down two monitors in particular. One is the ViewSonic, while the other one is the Acer Predator XB271HU. The ViewSonic gets amazing reviews when it comes to color and such. However, the Acer XB271HU is 10 bit color while the ViewSonic is 8-bit color.

So really i am still trying to decide, any opinions on what to go for would help greatly.

Using this image on my monitors there is some minor banding across the dark gradients (more noticeable if you crank up brightness), however I have the same issue on every other monitor I own including my Note 5 OLED phone so maybe it's just the image? In-game I haven't noticed this creating any problems.

Verdict: I'm keeping both. They're a huge upgrade for me and I'm quite happy with them at $350 each. If I wanted to spend $600+ I'd likely go for an IPS panel such as this one but I'm a happy camper today.

Normally this monitor goes for $700 new although, it's $733 now for some reason. However, you can get the refurbished with a 90 day manufacturers warranty for $525 from ViewSonic. I got a refurbished monitor a few weeks ago and I love it. No complaints and it looks brand new. No dead pixels, no bleed, just perfection.

Let me lay out the competition:

Here's the deal, I've never heard of an IPS panel with an advertised sub 4ms response time. I don't think they exist. If you can manage to dredge one up from the depths I can guarantee it's either manipulative marketing, or a professional grade monitor which costs far more than a grand.

From what I've heard response time itself is primarily marketing BS when provided without the input lag (which conveniently no monitor manufacturers seem to provide).

Without both input lag and response times you don't have the full set of information to determine the actual amount of time it takes to propagate an image to the screen after an action, so there's not much to be gained from comparing a few milliseconds.

Not much point in a high refresh rate 4k monitor right now. You are not going to have enough GPU horsepower to drive that many pixels in AAA titles. In competitive games it is more beneficial to have high refresh rate and lower resolution for a smoother playing experience, professional gamers are currently switching to 240hz 1080p monitors.

Currently the best gaming experience (within reason) can be had on a 144hz+ 1440p IPS G-Sync monitor paired with a GTX 1080Ti. Your options there are as follows:

I just want to note that the listed original price on Amazon of 879,90 is not really very accurate for these days.

So the discount isn't really 33% but still ~130 euros, which is neat, if you have Prime though.

I just snagged a refurbished XG2703-GS for $524.99 with a 90 day warranty and there's literally nothing wrong with it, other than the green accent lights that I wasn't too thrilled about considering purchasing the monitor don't work. I actually prefer it that way. Took some tinkering to get it to play nicely with my second monitor, but it's butter smooth at 165hz.

I ordered that same monitor but canceled it right away to go with this Viewsonic when someone mentioned it to me here. At the time Newegg had $40 off so it wasn't much more expensive. Still might be worth checking out if you should spend the extra money though. It's a great monitor but i can't compare it.

ALSO - Call your local costcos. They are clearing inventory on Acer xb271hu's for $500. That would definitely be preferable.

And personally, I'd recommend the XG2703-GS (Amazon link) over the ROG Swift. Less BLB (backlight bleed)/IPS glow, better 1080p upscaling, cheaper, best out-of-box colors (still needs a tiny bit of tweaking, but much less than other similar monitors). Some people are turned off by the green in it, but you really don't see it.

To my knowledge most of the IPS 27" 1440p 144hz monitors using the same panel manufactured by the AU Optronics. Panel known for having BLB issues so buying a 27" 1440p 144hz is offen described as playing panel lottery.

That being said I bought a Viewsonic 27" 1440p 144hz (165hz with OC) 6 months ago.
First one I bought had some issues on the panel such as weird letter shadows and miscolored pixels on the screen. I contacted with Viewsonic they replace the whole thing and the new one is working without an issue so far(5+ months). It is a bit out of your price range but i wanted to share my experince with it(the IPS panel) and the share the resources that i looked before pulling the trigger.

The Asus monitor isn't as good as some other options with the same specs. The Viewsonic XG2703-GS is better for example. Here is a good comparison of monitors, and it includes a tab for "Best 1440p 144-165hz Nvidia G-Sync Monitors." That's what you want to look at.

You'll probably want the new Coffee Lake i5-8600k or i7-8700k depending on your budget (prices and other specs finally announced, scroll down a few pages for chart) and a 1080 Ti. The 8600k and 8700k are unlocked. I know you mentioned you didn't want to overclock, but it really makes a big difference in some circumstances. A Z370 motherboard would allow for overclocking, so I highly recommend pairing the CPUs with it.

If those are out of budget, you could use a Ryzen processor. It'll perform worse in all likelihood (wait for benchmarks to see just how much worse), but it's still a good alternative since it's on a cheaper platform.

They originally had a FreeSync (red) and G-Sync (green) version in development, but they cancelled the FreeSync version. The monitor is essentially black and basic looking, aside from the subtle green accents.

Also the Predator isn't as bad as it looks, as I have a friend who has one and when looking from the front it appears ordinary. The Acer one usually goes on sale like this often enough, where personally I don't think the price jump to the ViewSonic is worth it.
