No drive is "best", since they can all fail at any given time, but this WD drive is a good drive for doing what you are wanting to do. If you are extremely concerned about the data, perhaps back it up in the cloud or purchase two drives.

Search internet retailers for deals on external hard drives. That is really the only solution for more space.

Amazon is currently selling this 1TB WD external drive for 60 bucks which a great deal on a decent drive.

To be honest, you're not going to get much for $300 CAD ($216 USD). If you inlude the OS, your budget is more like $170 CAD ($122 USD). If you really just need an HTPC, I'd get a Raspberry Pi, USB WiFi adapter, and an external HDD. OS is free, the RasPi is ~$55, Wifi adapter is ~$15, and the external HDD is ~$80. You can get other peripherals like a case, cables (if you don't have any), IR remote etc. The only thing it requires is a basic knowledge of Linux (rather simple IMO).

There's no real good summary in the comments here, and I just looked into all of this since I'm in the same situation.

Nintendo recommends you use an externally powered hard drive, like this. The single USB port doesn't have enough power to use a more portable hard drive, like this, unless you have a Y-cable, like this. The Y-cable provides enough power to the hard drive for proper operation since there are two usb ports. The problem is that Y-cables can be hard to find locally, and you almost always have to order them online. Mine is taking 3 weeks to get here.

Flash drives can also be used, but Nintendo says that the constant writing and re-writing that occurs on the drive as a result of gameplay can eventually corrupt what is on the flash drive, possibly deleting data and save files. Of course, it's up to you what you do, but the general consensus is that externally powered hard drives are the most reliable way to go.

If you google "Nintendo Wii U Hard Drives" Nintendo has a whole page on it. Can't link to it since I'm at work.

Any external HDD (Must be USB 3.0) that you buy will at least be the same speed if not faster depending upon what type of drive you get. I would go with the 500GB version and then buy a external HDD.

it's light, its inexpensive, has a 1080p display and gets good battery life. if you need additional storage, I would just suggest getting an external drive and you'd still stay right around your budget.

Option 1: Test your HDD first with any of these free tools. You may need to replace the HDD. It's very easy to replace the hard drive and RAM in a laptop. It takes only a few minutes in most cases. Google your laptop model + "replace HDD" or "swap HDD" to find the instructions. If you don't know your model number, there should be a sticker on the bottom of the laptop or near the battery that lists the model number and serial number. If the sticker is gone, you can use Speccy to find all the information about your computer and hardware. I don't know why you would think it would be difficult to swap the HDD. Get the WD Black 1 TB currently on sale until midnight tonight and swap the drives. You can also check out these laptop HDDs from Newegg and these laptop HDDs from PC Part Picker. If you want to try to save anything from the old drive, get a dual docking station like this Thermaltake BlacX Duet Hard Drive Enclosure Docking Station so you can clone the HDD or just copy the data.

Option 2: Since you said the data is porn, I'm leaning towards the fact that you may have a virus/malware infection. I would try these steps and see if they help at all.

1. Download ComboFix, HitmanPro, Malwarebytes, Bitdefender Rescue CD, and the Bitdefender free 30-day trial of Bitdefender Internet Security or Bitdefender Total Security. If you want to know the difference between the versions of Bitdefender, check the comparison chart.
   
   
2. Install ComboFix, let it run the scans, remove anything bad it finds, and restart the PC.
   
   
3. Install HitmanPro, let it run the scans, remove anything bad it finds, and restart the PC.
   
   
4. Install Malwarebytes, let it run the scans, remove anything bad it finds, and restart the PC.
   
   
5. If there was anything that couldn't be removed in regular Windows, restart the PC in safe mode and run the scans again.
   
   
6. Boot the PC from the Bitdefender Rescue CD before Windows starts and let it run the scans and then restart the PC. Here are instructions on how to make the Bitdefender Rescue CD. 9. Backup your PC or at least your important files. If you don't have an external hard drive, use a free cloud service like Dropbox, Google Drive, or OneDrive to back up your most important data. Every computer owner should have an external hard drive and perform weekly backups. If you have a laptop or prefer portable storage, a Western Digital My Passport (Amazon link for My Passport) or Western Digital My Passport Ultra (Amazon link for My Passport Ultra)are great choices. I would say the surface 3 if you want something that plays movies and is much less bulky than a laptop. But to each his own. At $499 it's not a bad choice. You will need an external HDD for it. As others have said, generating multiple backups is crucial. Her workflow should be something like this:

1. SSD brought with her to capture to and edit from while on the go.
   
   
2. Big, somewhat slower HDD at home to backup to, and likely two of them.
   
   
3. Finished images, full res, should then be stored - in addition to locally at least twice - on a cloud service ala Dropbox.
   
   The HDD you've chosen is sufficiently large, fast and cheap but I would look at the finer print and see how long it is warrantied for. I suggest you get nothing with fewer than 3 years coverage, ideally 5 (as this loosely suggests the manufacturer's confidence in the QC).

It really depends on how much protection you want to do go with. If you want to make sure it is backed up no matter what; compute fries, virus, home or office is broken into. Then I would consider getting source control.

If you don't mind paying for a source control then I would consider SVN or Perforce. If you do not want to pay I would just use a git repository; however you will need to pay to keep the repo private, other wise it will be exposed to the public.

Otherwise, You can get a SSD or HDD or book drive and plug that into your machine and just mirror the drive to your current directory with your project.

Yeah big games take a long time to download. MCC and Halo 5 are around 70 GB each.

If you put the disc in the console it will INSTALL from the disc and DOWNLOAD any updates needed. So if GTA was 40GB disc and 30GB download, then all you would download is the 30GB (still takes a while).

A game always needs a KEY to play. A digital copy key is your account. A physical copy key is your disc. If you have the game on the HDD you either need the disc inserted in the console or your account has to be signed in. The HDD has to be more than 256GB and USB 3.0. I personally have a 1TB hard drive and I still have not filled it up. This might work good for you.

The flash drive will fill up very fast, and they don't have that high of a throughput. According to AVS Forums, they recommend a HDD. You can get a 1TB for $59 on Amazon. I actually own the 3500, and I'm satisfied with it. I bought it to convert my old CRT TV to be ATSC compliant. The benefit of the iView unit is that it also has coaxial output, and supports ClearQAM. If you have ClearQAM channels on your cable provider, it will be able to convert them to be used on your NTSC TV.

What kind of content, how many workstations, how many users, what kind of geographic layout (one facility, multiple?), how critical is the data, what kind of budget are you working with, do you have access to a controlled environment for server hardware (e.g. are you sitting on top of a data center or are you trying to jam this into a broom closet), do you have competent personnel to manage the system, how often do you need to access the data stored?

They're about the same actually, using this dock and a 1tb WD blue drive is about the same as this external one. Also the dock + HDD is a desktop drive so it runs at 7200 RPM, while the enclosed drive appears to be only 5400 RPM.

If you do decide to go external hdd, I'd recommend a My Passport Ultra as that's the one I was using for game storage on my wii u and I never ran into any problems. It did require a usb y-cable though, as just the one usb cable that came included wasn't enough to power it. I bought 1tb since I went mostly digital, but I think there are some 500gig models out there if you don't wanna overdo it with storage space. Otherwise, you can grab a 1tb since they're not too expensive and you can always re-use the hdd for other things in the future. I'll leave a link for a similar model to the one I bought.    I'm sure this list seems like overkill, but our household has two Xbox Ones and so we have a lot of redundancy between the 3TB and the 2TB. I'll be honest and say there isn't really anything on the 1TB, it was just laying around the house and is plugged into the Xbox waiting. All games are stored on Externals with only Apps taking up space on the internal drives.

Yes, at a minimum. You can get a 1TB USB3.0 external for about $60 and they are very fast, great for backups (mine). But you also want some "offsite" backups, like Google Drive, Dropbox, or another online/cloud based backup service (I use SOS Online Backup for about $5/month and unlimited space). This way if there is a fire or electrical hazard and all your gear (including backup drives) fail, you will still have the offsite data available. If you don't want to pay for cloud backup, just put the really important stuff on Google Drive (resumes, tax documents, maybe important photos.. anything you can't live without).

As for a fresh install, it's usually worth it. Like everyone, you have probably accumulated a lot of programs you don't need/use anymore, so if you get an external HD to copy your files, you can install Windows on the SSD, copy your files back, install necessary programs, and you're good to go. This will result in a faster and less buggy computer in the long run than trying to clone your current HD.
