>Suppose we increase it to 10MB, that would be 500GB per year. Would you really be okay with that?

Uh, yes.

u/graintop · 5 pointsr/PS4Deals

Can this be removed from its case and used to upgrade the internal PS4 drive? Seems some models were able to do that.

Edit: Amazon has followed suit at $39.99 for anyone who's interested. (And the 2TB model for $74.) I still don't know if it can be used as an internal drive, but the reviews say it's 5400 rpm so it might be too slow for that?

u/trrrrouble · 4 pointsr/Bitcoin

Spend $53, acquire 1 TB space.

Alternatively, you can run a pruned node, and only keep the last N megabytes of blockchain on your drive.

I just ordered this along with a y cable:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CRZ2PRM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005M0ICG2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I wanted to keep it to a terabyte or lower since the hard drive has to be dedicated to the Wii U due to Nintendo's encryption. I read reviews for both the hard drive and y cable and multiple users stated they worked well with their Wii U.

I think this Acer Aspire E15-574G is the best right now. It sure is in the US, and I haven't seen anything in the UK yet to rival it either.

It has a Skylake i5-6200U, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, Nvidia 940MX graphics, a 15.6" 1920x1080 display, and really good battery life. It should handle your work no problem.

The one thing it doesn't have is a lot of storage. You kind of lose that with the 256GB SSD, but I think it's worth it. You can always get something like this external HDD to store anything large on, and it would still come in under budget.

WD is a solid brand.

You can spend about $20 more for a "7200rpm" one which will load faster (slightely, not 100% faster or anything)

EDIT: NVM 5 dollars more, id highly recommend getting this 7200 rpm one

This is the external hard drive I use. It works fine. Haven't had any issues. Is going for $54 on Amazon right now. WD 1TB Elements Portable External Hard Drive - USB 3.0 - WDBUZG0010BBK-WESN https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CRZ2PRM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_DYzZzb2N8TG8Z

Destiny 2 is really popular and very fun.

I use the iView 3500STBII for my antenna DVR, and it works great. It even has the capability to store locally stored media files if you load it onto a HDD, and plug it into your STB. The iView 3500STBII is under $35 at Amazon, and a 1TB USB 3.0 HDD is under $55 at Amazon. It will support up to 3TB HDD's formatted to NTFS format. Be sure to get a USB 3.0 HDD for fastest read/write speeds.

The internal ATSC tuner is manufactured by Samsung according to the PCB when I opened up the case, and it has very good tuning capabilities. The outputs are HDMI, Coaxial, RCA, and composite, so it will be able to connect to any television manufactured after 1985. Even if you have a television from before that, it will work with a 300 ohm to 75 ohm balun hooked up to the VHF ports on the back of the TV.

The remote is a dual unit, and learns from your existing television remote. The "option" buttons can be programmed for whatever function you so choose. I set mine to be channel up and down. With the iView 3500STBII remote, your TV and converter box is controllable with only the STB remote.

Supported media formats are:

  • *.AVI,
  • *.MP4,
  • *.MPG,
  • *.FLV,
  • *.M4V,
  • *.MKV,
  • *.MP3,
  • *.WAV,
  • *.BMP,
  • *.PNG,
  • *.MPG,
  • *.TIFF.

The iView 3500STBII is basically an off-line media center, and is a new version of a VCR/DVD player. It's very very worth the $35 it will cost at Walmart or Amazon. Hell, if you wish, you can even use a VCR with it if you wire it up after the converter box. Here's how I have my setup wired.

Thanks for the help Damo, I two of these drives and the 2.6GHz i5, 8GB memory Mac Mini. Looking forward to setting these up tomorrow.

u/smitbret · 2 pointsr/DataHoarder

Well, I don't think the math works out. You would need at least 11x64GB USB 3.0 flash drives. At a minimum of $15 each you'd be looking at more than $160 in flash drives that aren't known for long term reliability and have read/write speeds that will frustrate most people for these long transfers.

Why not just spend the $50 on this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00CRZ2PRM/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1517692196&sr=8-4&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=1tb+external+hard+drive&dpPl=1&dpID=31vtVo4NJ3L&ref=plSrch

u/kiwiandapple · 2 pointsr/buildapcforme

You are looking for a NUC or compact HTCP mini PC.

u/joecamel_ · 2 pointsr/computers

Then you're looking for an external hard drive. You can get a 1TB drive for around $50. I do not recommend Seagate. Western Digital are very good.

Here's one.

u/onliandone · 2 pointsr/buildapcforme
> They said someone was remotley controlling it and looking into whatever files mom had stored.

How would they know that? That's very serious.

One bit of advice: Install Linux for them. Seriously, it is worth it. There is no way to get a Windows PC safe if one of the user is incapable of using a PC. There are almost no attacks targeting Linux, and you do not need much skill to configure it. It is very easy to install Ubuntu, at least as easy as installing Windows.

> Also can i use one copy of win 10 if i decide to do 2 builds?

No. Not if both are active.

For the build:

pc-kombo shared list

Type|Item|Price
----|:----|:----
CPU | Intel Pentium G4600 | $86.99 @ Amazon.com
Motherboard | ASRock H270M-ITX/ac | $99.99 @ Amazon.com
Memory | Crucial Ballistix Sport LT red DDR4-2666 CL16 (8 GB) | $64.99 @ Amazon.com
SSD | SanDisk Plus 240GB TLC (240 GB) | $84.00 @ Amazon.com
Case | Fractal Design Define Nano S Mini-ITX Gehäuse - black | $49.99 @ newegg
Power Supply | EVGA 430 W1 (430 W) | $36.38 @ Amazon.com
| Total | $422.34
| Generated by pc-kombo 11.09.2017 |

The USB ports are on the top, not the front, hope that's okay. The build has a fast dual core processor and will use its integrated graphics, for the usage you described it will be more than fine. 250GB SSD for storage. Otherwise that is a nice small build that has Wifi.

You can add any external drive you want, like https://www.amazon.com/Elements-Portable-External-Drive-WDBUZG0010BBK-WESN/dp/B00CRZ2PRM/.

I'd get a keyboard and mouse set, like https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Wired-Keyboard-Mouse-Bundle/dp/B00B7GV802/. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009513 would work as display.

Overall that is closer to $600 than $400, but you get modern and fast components for that.
u/vigillan388 · 2 pointsr/Audi

Step 1) Buy an Audi MMI to USB cable. I'm not sure what version is correct for the 2015 A4 platform.

Step 2) Buy a USB Portable Hard Drive that is powered through the USB port.

I have used this combo for the past 5 years without any issues in my 2009 S5 and now my 2013 S6. For around 60-70 bucks, you've got a TB of music at your fingertips.

u/rasterbated · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Just so you know, any hard drive is compatible with any computer, it just needs to be formatted properly.

Here's a guide for doing that: http://www.macworld.co.uk/how-to/mac/how-format-storage-drive-for-mac-usb-3541758/

Here's a good recommendation, the Western Digital Elements: https://www.amazon.com/Elements-Portable-External-Drive-WDBUZG0010BBK-WESN/dp/B00CRZ2PRM

u/Retro-Squid · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

I only really use Western Digital...

If it's an external, I recommend THIS

Or, internal, either THIS or TWO OF THESE set up as a RAID0...

But, that might be a little out of your price range.

u/Rogue_freeman · 1 pointr/computers

Chromebooks will fill your needs, maybe not go for the cheapest one though

this one is a good example of what you should get but you might want to pick up a external hard drive

u/Akalamiammiam · 1 pointr/raspberry_pi

Ok thanks a lot for your answers !

I went for a Samsung Evo+ + WD HDD (I heard that WD HDD are quite good) + some usb hub

Just to be sure, this sould look like this right ? (never used an USB hub before yeah..)

WD 1TB Elements Portable External Hard Drive - USB 3.0 - WDBUZG0010BBK-WESN https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CRZ2PRM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_1d3rHdevabbbl

Literally bought this for the sole reason to have quicker load times on a few games on my Xbox. I get this isn't the best harddrive out there but for what I paid and what I needed it for... it works well

u/SirUrza · 1 pointr/swtor

I mean you could try.... but you'd need something in the area of 50gb. Being connected via usb would mean extra slow load times and possible texture issues.

If you have one of those portable USB3 harddrives that might be a better option then your traditional thumb drive.

u/netjive8 · 1 pointr/buildapc

Yes I meant to say BUT.

Here is a Toshiba Drive and a WD Drive.

u/turbine_flow · 1 pointr/mac

Remember you can back up the "storage" drive onto the "time machine drive" as well so 500GB at the very least. I'd recommend 1TB though. Drives are pretty cheap.

Quick search in Amazon provided this:

Seagate Expansion 1TB

WD 1TB Elements Portable External

Do a little bit research and it will pay off.

I promise that basic computer maintenance sounds a lot more scary than it actually is, lol. I built my husband's last full-sized pc, and have replaced several components on my last two laptops, basically all via some guesswork and youtube/google tutorials.

Strange that your laptop has soooo little space. Is it an ultra slim thing, or a chromebook or something? What kind is it? I might be able to look up if you have a spare hard drive bay.

As far as reinstalling Windows goes, if it came preinstalled on your laptop, there should be a sticker somewhere on it that has the Windows product key. If so, you wouldn't need to pay for a new copy. If not, that's a little problematic.

An easier option that's a little more durable/cost effective than just a USB stick is an external hard drive. These are still USB, but have more space for cheaper, and if the cord gets damaged you don't have to replace the whole shebang. There's this one for super cheap though I have no experience with the brand, or this one, which I own.

u/camodr25 · 1 pointr/CookieClicker

Okay then, at this point I would reset your computer. First of all in doing this, make sure you back up all of your personal files, such as documents, pictures, and videos on a USB drive or a external hard drive. If you don't have a external hard drive, I found a cheap one on Amazon France, click this to go to the product. Make sure to have everything important backed up. Then, reset your computer. If you don't know how to do this, Google "how to reset (OS)". The word OS should be replaced with your operating system, such as Windows 7 or Mac OS X.

$100 for a 1TB USB 3 drive is actually really expensive. You can easily get drives in that capacity for $50-60. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CRZ2PRM/

u/Intoxicatedalien · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I'm looking to buy an External Hard Drive either for my Wii U or Nintendo Switch. I came across this 1 TB option from Western Digital

https://www.amazon.com/Elements-Portable-External-Drive-WDBUZG0010BBK-WESN/dp/B00CRZ2PRM/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1519403200&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=wii+u+external+hard+drive&psc=1

I heard that for Nintendo consoles, you shouldn't use an SD card or a USB because they have a limited number of read-writes available. This could put data in jeopardy.

So what I'm thinking of is buying an External Hard Drive and using a y cable. My question is two fold

  1. Is this a good idea for the Wii U console?
  2. Is this a good idea for the Nintendo Switch console?
u/resonantt · 1 pointr/wiiu

USB Sticks are generally fine I think, but if its a Harddrive it needs both power and data lines.

For reference I have one of these

but you need one of these cables.
