Congratulations! It looks like you just found a nice computer! It appears you're missing a hard drive/solid state drive, SATA cable, and operating system.

To begin, you'll want to get an unused hard drive or solid state drive. These can be found on Amazon, Newegg, or in Bestbuy (among other places). I'll supply links to a few examples below. After you've made you're selection, you'll need a SATA cable. This cable allows you to hook the drive up to your motherboard. The last step is to install Windows. All in all, it's a very simple process albeit a bit time consuming (primarily for the Windows installation).

This is a very simple explanation of an also relatively simple installation/resolution. If you'd like more detailed instructions, I'd be happy to help!

Hard Drive Example

Solid State Drive Example

SATA Cable

Operating System (Windows 10)

Ubuntu is also a FREE operating system that is compatible with your hardware. Most users are experienced with Windows, which is why I listed it. Personally, I prefer Windows over Ubuntu.

Go to Amazon and get one of the following:

Looks good, I'd just swap out that HDD for this 1TB for only $14 more. Still within OP's budget. Can't go wrong with Caviar Blue

u/Ryltarr · 29 pointsr/talesfromtechsupport

>He wanted a fresh install

My default maneuver here is to just replace the drive so there's an intact and ready rollback that takes no time at all, especially because HDDs are so cheap anymore that a decently sized drive could be purchased on Amazon for [$50 with one day shipping], and [several other] drives are available in a similar price bracket with the same shipping.
Saves a shitload of time, especially when it's just that one thing you missed in your backup and it's easy to transfer.

If we assume that karma is stored in an int32_t (so a maximum of 2,147,483,647 karma per post) the karma value of one post would be stored in 32 bits or 4 bytes. Keep in mind that it wouldn't be relevant if the post gets 2 or 2 million karma, it would always take the same amount of space. So the only thing that matters to get a ton of karma is the amount of posts you make.

If we take a 1TB WD Blue hard drive (like this one) which weighs 1.61lbs (or ~0.73kg) according to Amazon, we have to get 1,000/0.73 = ~1,370 hard drives.

If we further assume that only karma values are stored on it and we can use the full space of the drive (10^12 bytes), we have ~2.510^11 (or 250 billion) post we can store per drive.

So to get a ton of karma you have to make 2.5 * 10^11 * 1370 = 3.425
10^14 (or 342.5 trillion) posts.

EDIT: If we take larger (which you can find in servers) or lighter (for example SSDs) hard drives you'd have to make even more posts.

Some games with this CPU and VC combo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EK_ktjGHyeg

Notes:

  1. Do not change the CPU, and Video Card.

  2. I would recommend S12G over CX 2017 anyday. You can go for s12II but that PSU is almost 7-8 years old. It has group regulated design, and that thing is just purely too old.

  3. Given the budget, 22" monitor will be fine. If you can spend extra, spend it on CPU and get yourself Ryzen 1400.This will last more than 1200. Or you can spend a little extra on a 24" monitor: Dell SE2416h. Or buy yourself another 8GB stick of RAM.

  4. There are other motherboards with different sizes and prices in the market. You also need to check RAM compatibility.

  5. You can add another 8GB RAM in future but make sure you buy the same RAM.

  6. Buy the case and keyboard of your choice, of course.

Any questions? Feel free to ask.

Keep the questions coming, and don't cheap out on PSU.

> Problem 1: blockchain becomes 1 tb in 1 year

Where is that stat from? What size of consistently large blocks are creating a 1 tb yearly chain increase? What would the value of the fees and blocks of that size be? What would the value of 1 BCH be at the point where blocks are at that level?

How do you rectify the idea that users are supposed to be running a full node, but not mobile (spv) wallet to do most commerce unless you are home all the time? The very idea that everyone in the world should be running a full node is just silly. How many people do you know that can not even be bothered to back up their photos from their phone? The vast majority of people in the world will never run a full node. However anyone that wants to will still be able to. 1tb a year is not an expensive ($47 and cheaper every year) addition to securing your own finances. Running a full node and then expecting the average person to use the rube goldberg machine of lightning for "cash" transactions at the same time vs the simplicity of reasonable block size increases that follow value, volume and demand is a losing proposition. Nature prefers simplicity.

Or just buy larger hard drives to store their copy of the block chain.

My home internet connection could easily tolerate a significant block size increase.

The block chain stands at a whopping 91GB however for ~$50 I can buy a device that can hold that ten times over.

additionally the fee does not have to be large, by increasing the block size (which was satoshis intention from the start) the miners would be able to accept transactions with a much smaller fee attached to them as there would be no competition for block space.

I don't get the centralization argument at all. Nobody is talking about TB sized blocks and if we ever get to a point where they are, 1Pbps connections will exist.

This is how it breaks down from parts from ebay. Includes shipping. I'll even include links

Base Desktop - $50

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 -$30

EVGA 600W 80+ Bronze PSU -$50

16GB DDR2 - $20

WD Blue 1TB - $45

Sandisk 240GB SSD - $40

MSI Twin Froze GTX 770 - $83

Windows 10 Pro License -$7.50 since its so valuable to you. Also its 2018, be real. No one buys full keys or they buy them off eBay. Yes I know they are not legit but once again 2018 no one cares.

Total: $325.50

Even comes with a spare CPU, drive, and 8GB DDR2. Also, you could probably buy most of these parts for less. These were pulled from quick ebay searches. For example, the PSU could be closer to $20 in reality, the card would be closer to $70 and the drive would be around $25 for the HDD and $35 for ssd. That would be $257.50. Still could probably get lower than that. Get real with your prices.

To be fair, not really, you got the case and HDD for free + 4GB less RAM

Motherboard looks like a Gigabyte
GA-78LMT-USB3
+ £8

Cheapest 8GB 1333 Mhz I could find: Geil Enhance Corsa + £15

HDD: WD Blue 1 TB + £50

PSU: Corsair VS450 - about the same price, couldn't find one.

Case: Aerocool X-Warrior + £50

Videocard looks like it's got some custom cooling solution on there, so maybe + £5

£222 + £128 = £350 + 3 "free" games

Doesn't seem THAT bad. And apparently the system was £372 at some point. Although not crystal clear if it's a 6300 or a 6100 in there, even so, not much price difference.

Edit: It's actually a FX-6100, but the whole thing is only £360 on their website. However, it also includes a Wi-Fi adapter and a DVD-RW drive, so definitely a fair deal price-wise.

[bear in mind, this is long winded mostly cuz i'm trying to explain the reasoning for what i'm suggesting rather than just throwing parts at you]

well for that much you're not gonna get a whole lot of power, /r/buildapc (also useful as a source to help with costing the build) has a handful of useful tools (in the form of links on the sidebar) for determining what parts match what other components (though most components have universal designs and so all fit the same slots).

that said, the cpu should be the first thing you decide on (also the one thing you should not skimp on), then the motherboard with the same socket as the motherboard in the desired size. it will have a specified label you can type in, ie mine is an lga1150 cpu and the motherboard is the same, but the actual cpu itself is an i5 quad core thingy which shares that lga specification with a handful of other grades of cpu. it also is a bit biased to say but i would suggest going intel over amd, if only because the pins will be on the motherboard instead of the cpu and since the cpu is decidedly far more expensive than any motherboard you would get for it, it's better to have the easily bent pins on the motherboard in case something goes wrong. the aforementioned cpu has yet to be forced to meet the needs of the two gpu i have so something below i5 will probably work for your intents. (you'll also want to get cooling for it eventually, the stock fans work but are pretty bad)

once you decide on the cpu, you need to decide what size tower you want (there's a few, though micro atx and atx are the two i'm familiar with. this will define what size motherboard you would get. depending on how you want to go with the computer in the future, you may want smaller or larger. if you would eventually put more money into the computer to boost its power via SLI or crossfire (meaning, running two of the same graphics cards at the same time with a wire "bridge" between them), then atx would be a solid choice. i would not suggest going that route if you can help it as cooling the top gpu can be a bit of a pain (though they sell hybrid gpu which have liquid cooling pre-installed that mitigates that issue) along with multiple games not supporting that functionality and not using it anyway (overwatch is one that does support it, for whatever that's worth) however, the power you can get out of them is better for the price and doesn't require a huge immediate investment (ie, can buy the second card later, doubling your power). however, if you don't mind upgrading and replacing the gpu as needed, then micro atx is fine, too. (bear in mind, you can do sli in micro atx but they will be seriously cramped and you won't have any room for any other pci slotted device like an audio processing unit or a wireless card). my personal recommendation would be to go for the atx size and try sli/crossfire out once you could afford the second graphics card.

once you've got the size of the computer, go find a motherboard which can socket the cpu you chose (amazon/newegg are good choices for shopping for these, new or used, btw) and then a tower/case of the appropriate size (if you're interested in liquid cooling, look for towers with grates on the top and sides. corsair does a pretty good set of these but they're also kindof expensive. easy as pie to work on, though). after that, go find some ram (i would suggest 8gb at least) which match or are lower than the motherboard's specifications (ddr3 is pretty common atm, but ddr4 is better if you can afford it. ddr3 is probably best to go for for price and availability.)

gpu! the funny little powerhouses that make graphics run really well. you don't strictly speaking need one to run a game, but i would highly encourage one (even if it's a basic little bitch like this $20 one as onboard graphics of most motherboards are only good enough to run basically low res video. these are the filling to the sandwich and can be added and removed with relative ease (also one of the components with universal specs so any graphics card will fit in any motherboard, more or less). both the cpu and the gpu are going to be where you're spending most of your money along with your monitor and operating system coming in close behind. that said, with the 10 series of nvidia graphics cards being released recently, you can probably get a used 960 pretty cheap (for the record, i can run overwatch with two 960 ftw's at 135~fps solid on high settings at 1920x1080 so one would get you a solid 60fps on most games at decent levels of prettyness. you could get 700 and 800 series cheaper but will not last as long or be as effective. a 1050/1040 might be a better option but you'd have to get use one of those tools from /r/buildapc to compare effectiveness and price cuz there's way too many for me to spew all the data here)

last but not least, the power supply unit! (aka psu) once you have all other components selected, you need to go find out the wattage ratings for all the components and add them up. that will determine the amount of wattage your psu should be, choosing a psu with more wattage than is required as having too little can cause problems (750w should probably be fine unless you go for much heavier stuff). you also need to make sure it's the right size for the tower and has all the plugs you need (modular are good as they have a lot of everything and can add/remove cables fairly freely).

once you have those picked out, there are gallons of peripherals you can choose from (ie, monitor, keyboard, mouse, headsets/speakers, etc. i personally like my keyboard to light up/glow cuz i work in the dark more often than not.) as well, you will need a hard drive or two and an operating system cd and key (windows 7 is probably best for price and usage for gaming. definitely do not get windows 8 it was made with tablets in mind and is total crap, windows 10 isn't a bad choice if you can get it cheap. maybe student versions? idk.) hard drives are fairly cheap and easy to upgrade and install (nother one of the universals). i would suggest a 1TB HDD as that is a large amount of space and fairly cheap (that one's $50) considering they go up to 6tb now. another option if you are willing to shell out for it is to get an SSD to load the os from (makes your computer start up stupid fast) and have an extra hdd for larger files like movies music and games. the only problem with this is that most things want to use C: for downloading and storing files so if the ssd isn't big enough you can run out of space pretty damn quick. that said, i'm using a 128gb ssd and only just recently started running out of room. 256gb would probably be better for longer term and for storing maybe one or two games on it for fast loading or maybe just using that if you're not a game hoarder like i am (i like having all my steam games installed for nostalgia purposes).

also as a sortof rant/general rule i would suggest avoiding asus if you can, not cuz their stuff is crap but because their rma department is crap. i've sent things to them which were horrifically broken or otherwise obviously damaged that they sent back to me unchanged. on the flip side, they sent back a new motherboard when i sent it in the second time after i said i would prefer they do that, so they've got that going for them.

with all of that said, there are likely pre-designed pcs for that range somewhere but i could not immediately find them on /r/buildapc so i'm not sure where to find them. if you'd prefer that, i can go find it. i just think of it as more fun to do the aforementioned abomination of planning and minmaxing. in all cases, building the pc yourself will be cheaper than buying one from a store or a laptop.

Changed to a far superior CPU. Motherboard is nice and cheap but I have one and it's absolutely fine. Doubled the RAM to 8 GB. Doubled storage to 1 TB. Semi-modular PSU (you'll thank me when you build). Removed the disk drive because nobody uses them very much these days but of course it'll still come in under budget if you want it.

I used a 64 GB SanDisk USB drive for over a year without any issues and only upgraded to an external hard drive because it was running out of space. Older USB drives had a much lower tolerance for the number of read/writes they could perform. Newer brand name USB drives have a much higher threshold.

That said, if you can upgrade to an external drive, do it. Here's what I bought and it works great.

"Planned obsolescence" is a term constructed by evil people in order to agitate amongst stupid people.

There is no grand conspiracy involving all the world's designers and engineers to deliberately sabotage products and make them fail earlier.

Sure, sometimes products are made in a way that the maker knows they are going to fail some years down the line. But that comes from making them cheap. You can buy more expensive products, with more expensive materials and design processes, that last longer.

A Western Digital Blue hard drive has a 2-year warranty. A HGST Ultrastar made by the same company has a 5-year warranty. Have they deliberately sabotaged the Blue one? No, they have used a package of manufacturing process, materials and design effort that bring both cheapness and lower expected lifespan.

In short: No, no smart and honest engineer could take the design schematic of the iPhone 7 or Samsung S8 and make it last longer and be better with no downsides. There is no "sabotage" or "conspiracy", only tradeoffs.

People love violence and reasons to hate and be angry. The conspiracy theory of 'planned obsolesence' gives them an excuse to embrace rage. And a vote gathered through conspiracy theories, envy, hate and myths, is as good to a political cause as any other.

u/Virtualization_Freak · 4 pointsr/HomeServer

For s a starter server, I would suggest a Lenovo t140 and add as much storage as you needed, or start with two of these Western Digital 1TB Blues.

u/F0RCE963 · 4 pointsr/buildapc

No, they're the same. Normally it's recommended to pick a small SSD ~250GB for the OS and everyday programs and then 1TB HDD for the rest of your media files like photos, videos and games.

First things first- a Solid State Drive(From now on referred to as SSD) is a storage device with relatively high speeds and lower potential storage capacity for the price, compared to a Hard Disc Drive(Now on referred to as HDD).

You’re generally not going to need an SSD for most games, as the speed of storage isn’t really dependant on your storage. Most data used by programs is loaded into RAM, which is much faster. The only benefits are cases where you may have a game with long loading times because there’s a lot of content to load into the RAM. This is fine though, sometimes it’s nice to have those short loading times for multiplayer games. In actuality, it’s best to have an SSD for operating system storage, so instead of a computer taking a few minutes to start up, it only takes a few seconds.

There are two product types of SSD you can purchase, and two form factors (sizes) you can purchase. If you can update with which case and motherboard you have(and also any other storage that’s coming with the computer, I could have a better idea of what you have to work with, however you’re probably looking for something along the lines of SATA, 2.5” and around 500gb. This is a good option if you have one(or more) HDDs to store pictures, videos, documents, etc.

If you don’t have other storage devices, a 1tb equivalent would be preferable. Alternatively, you could purchase the 500gb SSD and some HDDs to back it up. Or even go a bit further and only purchase a 250gb SSD to hold ONLY your OS and a couple other things.

In terms of price, keep in mind that price for digital storage(SSD) has dropped significantly in the last year, and is forecasted to drop another 10% this year possibly.

TL;DR: Search “500gb SATA 2.5 SSD” online and buy anything from Samsung, Western Digital, Crucial or ADATA.

Hope this helps!

Looks like a really good build. I will put part links in the end of the post. Here's some tips to save a bit of money if you're open to it:

  1. Power supply: 550 watts is a great amount for this system. You could save some money by passing on the 80+ gold rating (although it's great to have a super efficient power supply, you don't need 80+ gold) and get a power supply that has an 80+ bronze efficiency rating. A power supply being fully modular isn't a must either, for me at least. A good semi-modular pick would be the Rosewill Hive 550, I have it and it has has sleeved black cables for about $55. If you want to save more money on the PSU, though, the EVGA basic 550W unit has all black cables and goes for around $43. Otherwise, the 600B from EVGA is a great 600W unit for around $50. Changing your power supply with these options might save you around $30-$40.
  2. RAM: there are 16GB kits out there that are cheaper than the ones you selected, some are even in red to match your color scheme. I know there is a kit from Corsair that goes for around $80, so that might save you $20-$30 there. Otherwise, if you can't afford 16GB at the beginning of the build, 8GB will suffice until you upgrade. Just make sure if you get 8GB, get a single stick so you can throw another one in later. 8GB instead of 16 GB may save you $30-$40.
  3. CPU cooler: The i5 6500 comes with its own stock cooler, so you can save around $25 by not paying for a CPU cooler right away. Otherwise, the 212 Evo is a superb cooler and also comes in a red LED fan version for a few bucks more :D
  4. GPU: The GTX 1060 is a great option for a video card, but the RX 480 from AMD might be able to save you a few bucks right now and down the road. When you look to purchase another monitor, options with FreeSync (AMD adaptive sync) are normally cheaper than monitors with G-Sync (Nvidia adaptive sync). Adaptive sync monitors will make your gameplay smoother. Also, if you get a motherboard that supports crossfire, you can throw another RX 480 in your rig in the future. I will recommend you a motherboard for this at the end, and it won't cost you much more than your current one. An RX 480 8GB starts at around $230. Also, RX 480's are said to be better in DX12, another "future proofer".
  5. Motherboard (minor): H110 is a budget chipset, and a Micro ATX one will save you a bit of money. BUT, if you want another RX 480, you'll need a motherboard with 2 PCIe slots to house them. An ATX motherboard will fill your case better, not look as awkward as a mATX one, and will let you put another RX 480 card in your rig in the future. A good ATX motherboard that would work for this build would be the Asus B150-PLUS for $95. This may be a bit expensive, but you could spend your saved money on this part. I highly suggest you exercise this option.
  6. Storage: if 250GB is enough for you, then you could save some money by not getting a Samsung SSD. An SSD comparable to this would be the Crucial MX300 275GB for around $80. Also, the SanDisk z400s is $75 and is 256GB. If you want more storage, though, I would recommend a 120GB SSD like the PNY CS1311 for $40 and a 1TB hard drive like the WD Blue for $50.

TL;DR: cut back on PSU efficiency ratings, look for different 16GB or even 8GB RAM kits, ditch CPU cooler (or keep if you want), get an RX 480 for saving money on future monitors, you can also put another RX 480 in your build in the future with a different motherboard; an ATX motherboard would fill your case and add capability for a second RX 480, a non-Samsung SSD could save you some money, while for $100, you can get an SSD and a 1TB hard drive.

    Asus B150-PLUS
    Crucial MX 300 275GB
    SanDisk Z400S 256GB
    WD Blue 1TB

I hope my advice helped you and that this didn't overwhelm you. If you save enough money, you could throw in a red LED PWM fan, which adjusts its speed based on your computer's needs. You could maybe even throw in an LED strip or two. I had a lot of fun making this, thanks for posting :D

For those wondering, there is a 1 TB, 6gb/s, 64MB Western digital hard drive on sale on amazon for $63. No MIR, standard shipping, and it's western digital.

I've heard bad stories about seagate, and personally prefer WD as i've had two seagate's fail on me. Though that's anecdotal evidence.

It should be noted that shipping is 7 dollars if you get from TD. Buying from TD saves you 5 dollars, but you have to deal with a MIR.

u/aurorafluxic · 3 pointsr/linux

If you're looking for total storage space, go mechanical, but go 7200RPM at the very least. If you're just looking to "play around" with Linux, this should be more than enough, and will also be extremely cheap. A WD Blue drive goes for $49, and and a tool-free enclosure goes for $23.

[WD Blues] (http://www.amazon.com/WD-Blue-Desktop-Hard-Drive/dp/B0088PUEPK) are the same price right now on Amazon. Similarily, Newegg is running a $5 promo. I'd say that they are a better product for the same cost, unless, for whatever reason, you really want these instead.

Seagate Barracudas also go for the same price a lot.

u/Troglidyte · 3 pointsr/buildapc

Get the 570. Its alot, alot alot better than the 1050ti. It's actually disgusting how much better it is.(10-30fps more in games)

I might pick up a few more gigs of RAM if you can afford it.

I would also probably drop the SSD and trade it for a much larger HDD, here's a western digital 1tbon sale for 45 bucks-https://www.amazon.com/Blue-Cache-Desktop-Drive-WD10EZEX/dp/B0088PUEPK/ref=sr_1_4_acs_ac_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1542594039&sr=1-4-acs&keywords=hard+drive After you put on your OS, chrome, steam, blah blah blah you'll only have like 200 gigs left which isn't too much space for games, and won't even be enough to hold the games that you listed.

u/Aezalius · 3 pointsr/letsplay

I'm a big fan of DIY solutions, and think it would be cheaper to set up a local server that does the same thing. Grabbing a new 1TB WD Blue drive off of amazon is about the same as 4 months of storage on google drive and dropbox is about the same.

If you like having a cloud-like service, take a look at freenas where you can set up a network share and record directly to that. You can set it up on any old computer you have lying around, which is nice. I have mine running on an old e-machines computer from 2002.

edit: If you want to go crazy heres a 6TB external drive for $160 which should last you for just about two years of daily 30 minute uploads.

u/Megabyte2 · 3 pointsr/buildapc

I would replace the green HDD for a WD Blue which is 7200RPM making it slightly faster.

I would also consider spending a few pounds more for a EVGA 500W Bronze PSU for their excellent customer service should anything go wrong. The Corsair is fine if you wanted to keep it however.

Finally, I would consider swapping the 750Ti (which is a few years old now) for a RX 460 which offers a little better performance for a similar price. You could also consider the RX 470 which would be a fair bit better and you wouldn't need to replace it as quickly, but it does cost a fair chunk more. It would be worth it if you were able to afford it.

Other than that, looks like a good build.

What I did when this was happening to me was to just make sure the SSD was the main boot drive in the BIOS then just plugged the old drive in and i didn't have problems with it.

Though I would suggest for the sake of, what, $50? that it would be worth getting a 1tb hard drive, pull all the data he wants to keep onto that, format the old one and then plug it in as a secondary drive.

u/Devchar96 · 3 pointsr/buildapc

Looks good. The only thing I can think of is maybe adding an HDD for storage. The SSD is good, but 240 GB will go very fast, especially if you will be playing a lot of modern games (which you will with the RX 480). This is the one I have, and it can be had on Amazon for <$50.

Also, just want to say Amazon Prime is amazing. I ordered (almost) all of my parts on a Wednesday from them and they were all delivered Thursday. Only had to wait one extra day for the RAM to arrive from Newegg... That was a rough 24 hours haha.

u/Televisions_Frank · 3 pointsr/buildapcsales

You want more 4th gen or later IMO, but that's mostly to future proof if you're gonna spend that much.

MicroCenter has bundle deals every month. For CPUs/mobos. Gets ya $30 off a CPU/mobo combo (although you'd want to see how cheap the other sellers are, but if you got a MicroCenter nearby, then no shipping). However, all of the mobos I've seen in the $130 base range in their list (which is where I think you should be looking) I'm not liking the instances of bad batches and shitty bios.

This is, at the moment if you go through the trouble of the rebate, probably all you'll need PSU-wise I don't see you going above 550 watts on a $700 budget especially with newer video cards being more energy efficient.

Decent case, nothing fancy, should fit anything you'll want.

Nice reliable 1TB HDD.

Here, I made you a PCPartpicker list. It's up to you to figure out your CPU, CPU cooler, mobo, and GPU. But if you go with a $200 GPU that leaves you about $300 for CPU, mobo, and cooler. You CAN skip CPU cooler for now and deal with the one that comes with the CPU, just realize the thing is a loud piece of shit and you'll want to replace it next paycheck.

Go to /r/buildapac read their rules, edit that list with your picks and ask for advice there.

Also, you'll need a copy of Windows and that's around $80+ unless you uhh... cough.

A WD 2tb drive can be purchased for as little as 54.99 usd. You could double that up in raid 0 and have as much as 4tb of drive space for as little as 110 usd. At most you'll only be able to get a 240gb or 250gb ssd for the same price.

With a $600 budget you could fit in a better processor. I also changed the RAM since the two individual sticks are more expensive than buying two sticks together. Changed the power supply as well to 500W.

You could probably go even cheaper than that: the games you list have low requirements and could run off of an AMD APU processor, but you might not get ultra gfx. Which I assume is part of the point of modding these games, so I put a newish GPU in the build. LMK what you think!

Before reading this, realize that I am only a random dude on reddit, and that I am only speaking from my experience. More experienced people on other subreddits will provide you with much more accurate answers. If you don't feel like reading the entire post, here's the TL;DR: It's not that hard, just watch out to make sure the big stuff (such as motherboard and cpu) is compatible, and it's plugging in cords from there. Don't splurge on stuff you don't need. The internet (google) is your friend.

Honestly, as long as you have all the parts and don't mind searching around for the right place to plug it in, it's not too difficult. Basically, make sure your parts are compatible (/r/buildapc should be able to make sure, but there are always websites such as https://pcpartpicker.com/) and just plug it all in to your motherboard correctly, after making sure your board fits in your case. The hardest part is applying thermal paste to your CPU, then installing it into your motherboard. Which, is not hard at all. Just... don't force it in.

Tips from me: I used this chart to build a low-level PC. It looks like you'll need a "great" machine (~$600) if you want a decent 30 FPS at 1080p. Best thing about this chart is that every row is a working build, completely compatible. But, feel free to mix and match parts.

For basics: Make sure that your PSU can provide enough power for your CPU and Video Card. Make sure your motherboard is compatible with your CPU. (I think the two main types are AMD and Intel, both boards and CPUs. Don't mix the two. Also make sure the board supports the same number of pins on your CPU.) Beyond that, it's mostly mix and match whatever!

Oh. I recommend, at the very least, a hard drive with a higher than normal spin speed, and equally high read/write capabilities. I personally used this 1TB 7,200 RPM disk, partly for the RPM, and mostly because I didn't trust seagate. Feel free to do your own research before buying anything. You can also splurge on a SSD, but only if you're serious.

I hope that I was able to provide some helpful info! I'm a bit of a computer nerd though, so this stuff comes more or less naturally to me.

Edit: Also, when building, don't forget to buy an Operating System (Windows) and possibly a cheap optical drive (disk drive) to install it with. Pro tip: If you buy Windows 10 and don't like it, you can roll back to 7, even if you used a windows 10 installation disk. I think. You'll have to google that as well.

P.S. I got a windows 10 installation USB. So disks may be obsolete. But, always get something that you can use to recover. You will thank yourself for this one day in the distant future. Personally, I just went with the installation USB, since you can boot from that for recovery. But you can't boot from a downloadable windows installation. If that makes sense.

I found this 320GB 2.5" HDD on Amazon for $46.28, and that's just Amazon, not even trying very hard. If Sony got a few hundred thousand of them at 2/3 the price ($30) it wouldn't be worth their time to make a $269.99 and a $299.99 SKU for with/without a 320GB HDD.

ETA: The 500GB unit goes for $51.49 and 1TB units go for $66.64. If they charge $299 for a 320GB unit and $399 for a 1TB unit, people would pay that, but Sony would make (if they paid retail!) almost an extra $80 on the 1TB units.

u/hgpot · 2 pointsr/buildapc

That wi-fi card is only b/g...

WD Green is a very slow hard drive and you will not like it. You have your SSD for boot, but your games are not going to open very quickly from that 5400rpm drive. Try Blue or (even better) Black.

u/TicklishOwl · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

If you live in the states, you can just get this for $48 and change. WD, 7200rpm, and cheaper than either of your two options.

If you can't get that drive, then...always go for the higher RPM when dealing with mechanical drives for the most part. Any WD "Blue" that's not 7200rpm is really their old Green line, and they were really terrible in quality, which was unusual for WD.

Usually, WD does beat out Seagate in terms of quality but mostly when you start looking at thousands of drives at a time (How many premature failures per thousand units...etc). WD's Blues (the real blues, 7200rpm ones) are pretty decent, with their Blacks and enterprise HGST being among the best.

However for the average user, you're ok going with either. I'm going to hope you're using an SSD and only need the platter drive for storing large files and backups, so either would be ok. My own personal bias has me erring on the side of caution with WD > Seagate, but honestly the Seagate you listed would be much better than the WD "Fake Blue" 5400rpm since it's their bottom barrel line.

u/GhostBond · 2 pointsr/buildapc

https://www.amazon.com/Blue-Cache-Desktop-Drive-WD10EZEX/dp/B0088PUEPK/

$154.

Worth the additional additional $16 to keep the majority of your files on the fast ssd, if you probably don't need more than 1gb it's actually cheaper.

Secondo me potresti scegliere in base a: estetica, disponibilità di installazione ventole, filtri antipolvere (molto importanti), e chicche varie. Non so consigliarti nulla.

  2. 1080p 144fps: rtx 2060. Butti giù qualche filtro inutile e li avrai senza problemi. Nei titoli da te citati senza nessuno sforzo.
  3. 1440p 60fps: RTX 2060 [Video performance in 1080p e 1440p].

Bella domanda. Non sono un esperto, te ne linko qualcuno, quelli più noti ed usati in pratica, ma non sono davvero la persona più adatta. Magari ti sa aiutare r/Monitors

  • 1080p: AOC 75hz, 27 pollici AOC 144hz 27 pollici Asus 1080p 60hz, 27 pollici, Asus 1080p 144hz
  • 1440p: Asus 1440p 75hz 27 pollici, AOC 1440p 144hz.

1440p a 60fps. Questa configurazione secondo me è ottima.

They're both good companies making good Harddrives. People have been having issues with Newegg shipping out broken drives from all I can see, at least that's what the Reviews on Newegg seem to conclude. Maybe grab it from Amazon instead? On Amazon the Western Digital is 0.6 stars ahead but the Seagate drive has been reviewed over a 1000 times more.

u/ajtallone · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you, but I had classes at school all day. Here is a build for you in all Euros.

CPU: $218

MOBO: $119

RAM: $92

SSD: $70

HDD: $40

GPU: $480

OS: $23

Case: $117

PSU: $104

CD Drive: $21

TOTAL: $1284

I realize that this is over your initial budget, but you mentioned that you could add an extra $100. Now for the explanations:

  • I did not change your CPU, but instead just found an actual link.

  • You do not need to buy thermal paste, as your CPU comes with a stock heatsink, which has thermal paste pre-applied.

  • I changed your motherboard to a compatible one, and then changed it again (when making the list in euros) for price reasons. Also keep in mind that Z series motherboards (as in Z97) are meant for overclocking. This is a method of getting better performance from your CPU. However, it requires specialized parts, like a Z series motherboard, and an unlocked CPU (shown with a K as in 6600K). These parts are more expensive. Because of that, I recommend you don’t overclock, which means you do not need the fancy, Z series motherboard. Instead I went with a H170.

  • Because I went with a different motherboard, different RAM was needed.

  • You chose a GTX 970 GPU. I switched it to a 1070. The reason for this is that it is a newer card with better performance. The 9 or 10 in the front shows which series the card is in, and the 70 shows which version of that series it belongs to, with a higher number meaning better performance. So therefore, a 1080 is better than a 1070 or 1060, and a 1070 is better than a 970 or 870.

  • You chose a Fractal Design R4 for your case. This case is the older version. I upgraded it to the R5.

  • Lets talk PSU’s. These can be very confusing. Obviously, you need to pick one that can supply enough watts to power your PC. You did that just fine. However, there are other things to consider. When it comes to PSU’s, not all watts are created equal. Two PSU’s may provide the same amount of power, however be very different in price. The cause of this comes down to the build quality of each. This affects 4 (main) things, noise, reliability, modularity, and efficiency. Hopefully the first 2 are self-explanatory. If a PSU is fully modular, that means that all of the internal cables that attach to your motherboard or GPU or hard drives or whatever can be completely removed from the PSU itself. This is very useful as it allows you to manage them much better. Efficiency means that less of the power you draw from the wall is being lost as heat. This not only reduces your electricity bill, but also means that your PSU will be cooler, creating less heat for your CPU and GPU. Efficacy is rated using the 80+ scale, which you can see here. Because of these 4 factors, I went with a higher-quality PSU.

Hope all of this helps! If you have questions, related or not, feel free to message me!

I didn't include an OS. I imagine your school might offer something for discount or even free.

This build has some room for upgrade:

I left a RAM slot open so you can cheaply upgrade it to 16GB at a later point. Make sure to get the same RAM when you upgrade to ensure dual-channel compatibility.

This build also doesn't have a hard disk, only a solid-state drive. This may be sufficient for you. If you ever need more space, the Seagate Barracuda 3TB ST3000DM001 ($122) gives you the most storage for the price. If you need something cheaper, the Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB ($63) is a pretty good deal.

I think this is a pretty good build. It's what I plan on getting myself in a month or so. It has the latest, most powerful Intel Core i5 processor that is the standard on /r/buildapc. It has the GTX 760 graphics card, which is nearly as powerful as the GTX 670 from the previous generation, only it's $100 cheaper. It has built-in Wifi and Bluetooth. It has a fully-modular, 140mm PSU which should fit really well in this case. The BitFenix Prodigy case is a gorgeous case and is available in many colors. I think the Samsung 840 SSD is supposed to be pretty good, and it has great reviews on NewEgg. This build should also be pretty compatible for use as a Hackintosh once Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks is released in a month or two in case you ever want to mess with that.

This should acceptable i think. Upgraded graphics card and better CPU. I was looking onto getting more new game title since right now im only capable on playing these two low requirement games. I was thinking about games like GTA V or Witcher 3. I also want some higher graphics in WoW even in intensive Raids.
Maybe change the graphics card since i think its kinda overkill ( is it?)

WD Blue's are solid and can frequently be found on sale. I picked up a 1tb at Microcenter for $40 not too long ago. Samsung SSD's are frequently considered the best, but there are plenty of other good ones that can be cheaper. Crucial, PNY, Sandisk come to mind offhand. Again, at Microcenter I think I picked up a 240gb Crucial ssd on sale for around $55. I have a Samsung in my personal rig, but the Crucial was going into an office machine to push spreadsheets, works great for that.

Edit: links for the wd blue and the crucial ssd. Not the prices I paid for them, but if you look around enough I'm sure you can find a better deal.

u/Psychonaut0421 · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

I can't imagine that the vibrations in your drawer were enough to damage the disk inside. I think you'll be just fine. I'd just get rid of it. Copy your files over to your SSD or a thumb drive, get rid of it and put brand new HDD in. Like I said, they are cheap. Amazon has this 1TB onsale for $50, usually over $100.

u/Tall_bright_stranger · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Germany is pretty expensive for computers.

Amazon UK and Amazon DE have free shipping to germany on some hardware over £25 / EUR25. Just tick the "free super saver delivery" box.

Completed PCs will usually be pretty expensive. I have just started my own company for that, but I'm not completely done setting up shipping arrangements yet, and since I'm situated in Denmark, shipping to Germany is not yet an option.

You could try using Amazon UK and Amazon DE to get a cheap:

Corsair CX or XFX PSU

B75 (Intel) motherboard or FM2 (AMD) motherboard in Micro ATX size. Get from Asus, MSI, AsRock or Gigabyte (the 4 best brands).

Cheap Pentium 2020 (or higher) CPU (Intel) or an Athlon II 760K from Amazon UK (AMD).

Cheap 4GB DDR3 240-pin RAM module. If you have a motherboard with 4 RAM slots, you can also get 2x2GB (which is often cheaper).

Cheap ATX or mATX case (at least the same size as your motherboard) with at least 1 case fan. Something like this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sharkoon-VS3-V-Chrome-Optical-Drives/dp/B00B1MU6YQ/ref=sr_1_41?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1377069838&sr=1-41

or the USB2 version:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sharkoon-VS3-S-Chrome-Optical-Drives/dp/B00B1MU7WW/ref=sr_1_39?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1377069838&sr=1-39

Or this:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/HEC-Compucase-Cougar-Spike-Micro/dp/B00BP6NHRQ/ref=sr_1_55?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1377069969&sr=1-55

Or perhaps:

_

Then add a cheap HD7770 (or HD7750 with GDDR5 memory) graphics card:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sapphire-HD7750-Retail-PCI-E-Graphics/dp/B00761YFPW/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1377070099&sr=1-1&keywords=HD7750

Go with this 1TB WD Blue HDD:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Western-Digital-internal-Hard-Drive/dp/B0088PUEPK/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1377070264&sr=1-1&keywords=1tb+wd+blue

I'm not sure how cheap this is, but it doesn't get much cheaper in Europe, unfortunately. Remember to add OS if you haven't got Windows.

u/kunmeh13 · 2 pointsr/buildapc

3- wd blues are great drives, and i've been running one solo for the past 2 years, but about to buy an ssd for my os and important programs. 1tb and 2tb. also note that the 1tb drive is 7200 rpm vs 5400 rpm in the 2tb, but since you aren't running the OS on that and just using it for storage, it's nothing to worry about.

4- stick everything in here. that's there recommended wattage psu to get, but its probably worth it just to get something 50 watts over that.

5- obviously, ethernet is the best choice, but if that's not available you can get something like this. one of my friends has powerline, and its really weird for him. some outlets he gets good speeds, and others are absolute trash. turning off and on the lights repeatedly causes a little lag while gaming, but overall he still likes it and uses it.

6- 27 inches is really huge, and you're not going to find a 1440p, 144hz, 27in, and gsync monitor for less than that.

u/Magicmole · 2 pointsr/buildapcforme

The PSU should be okay. Thermaltake is a reputable brand.

As for storage, I would go with both, a 120gb SSD for Windows + Vital programs, and a HDD for storage & games. Thats what I use at the moment.

I would stay away from Seagate HDD's though, both of my Seagate drives have died in not too long time sadly, whereas my ancient WD drives are still going strong.

If the one I suggested is too much on amazon, go with this one.

This HDD is nice, can't go wrong with a caviar blue If you only want 1TB of general storage.

Cheers

That's it, the final configuration, which is 2€ cheaper than the first one. WHAT A SAVE. But it's all the way better. I finally picked a I7-6700k as a CPU since nobody seems to know at which point a I5-6600k will bottleneck the GTX 1080, even with a 4.5 Ghz overclock. The debate is running litteraly everywhere and no one has the same point of view. So... I guess i can throw 100€ by the window to be sure and to overlock a i7 to 4.4 Ghz.

The Western Digital equivalent is $1 more. It's not like you're saving a bundle going with the Seagate option.

u/anon33249038 · 2 pointsr/techsupport

Sadly...it needs more than that. You'll need one of these. If it's a desktop or an all-in-one, you'll need one of these. Honestly from what you're telling me I don't think an ISO is going to do anything because it sounds like Hardware failure

u/-dPhidt · 2 pointsr/SSBM

If you're looking to store a 720p 60fps video that's 6 hours long you should really look into an HDD. I don't think you having a SSD is that important. If you really want one though that's up to you.

u/chickenpot · 2 pointsr/buildapc

For only about $10 more, you can get a 1 TB drive instead of a 500 GB drive. http://www.amazon.com/Blue-Desktop-Hard-Disk-Drive/dp/B0088PUEPK/

u/ralatch · 2 pointsr/FortniteCompetitive

You need a better hard drive. 100% disk usage is what is making the buildings/textures not load in. As far as fps, the only fix to this is getting better specs. The hard drive I recommend is this: https://www.amazon.com/Blue-Cache-Desktop-Drive-WD10EZEX/dp/B0088PUEPK/ref=sr_1_fkmrnull_1?crid=3RTL7HA4RL1M1&keywords=western+digital+-+caviar+blue+1+tb+3.5%22+7200rpm+internal+hard+drive&qid=1549660251&s=Electronics&sprefix=caviar+%2Celectronics%2C162&sr=1-1-fkmrnull. It is cheap and will help fix your issue with 100% disk usage.

u/lam3rz · 2 pointsr/AskPhotography

I would use 1TB+ Internal HDDs, sort them by date or some other factor and put them in a box. And when I need to work with them I would simply connect HDD to an external HDD interface (dockingstation).

So its basicly like that:

HDD + DockingStation + maybe some cover for hdd = profit

u/teuflhund · 2 pointsr/AskTechnology

I would take a few to check out solid state if this is for a single drive replacement. They are getting reasonably priced and have very good deals on amazon. If your a data storing hog (like me) you can get 120gb SSD for your OS and a cheep 1+ TB for about 120 esh please note those were picked in about 30s could find better deal ect

u/Verellic · 2 pointsr/GrandTheftAutoV_PC

I had this issue in BF1 as well, along with GTA 5. If thats the case I guess it wouldnt hurt trying to buy another hard drive, I recommend something like this, but did you ever figure out the brand of your drive?

u/Ilongboardandplaycs · 2 pointsr/techsupport

No problem. I'd recommend getting another hard drive in case this one is failing. Data shouldn't just vanish like that. They tend to be pretty cheap though.

Here's a 1TB one for 50$ from a very reputable company: https://www.amazon.com/Blue-Cache-Desktop-Drive-WD10EZEX/dp/B0088PUEPK

Don't get the "Expert Installation" thing. It's as simple as getting your files on to a flash drive, unscrewing the hard drive from its bay, screwing the new one in, and connecting the 2 cables back in it. Shouldn't take more than 10 minutes. You can even clone your entire hard drive to the new one if you have an extra SATA slot and cable on your motherboard.

If you want to do this, I can make a guide on how to do so with pics.

1 TB Western Digital $58

1 TB Seagate $53

2 TB Seagate $83.50

3 TB Seagate $102.80

Any of those would be good choices. Like others mentioned, WD Blues only go up to 1 TB. WD blacks are pretty much over priced, so Seagate is the better choice above 1 TB. The Seagate 1TB drive actually performs a little better than the WD 1 TB. As for WD being more reliable than Seagate, I don't really know if that's true or not.

Things to consider: Cache size, RPM and platter density. Seems like 64MB cache, 7200 RPM and 1 TB platter size is the best bang for the buck right now. All those drives above share those specs.

Double-space it so we can read it. What's an 18-6500? Is that supposed to be A8? If so, no, that's not a good option. What's your overall budget? It's typical to have an SSD just for the OS/common programs and have an HDD for everything else. Even for a budget build I'd say that's doable.

Here's a 120 gig SSD for $50. And here's a 1 TB HDD for $50. Something like that, maybe?

u/DisFigtree · 2 pointsr/buildapc

CPU - This is a perfectly fine CPU for gaming and there isn't any reason to change it.

Motherboard - This is a solid board, and it's a plus that it's a Gigabyte board. Make sure to keep in mind that this board doesn't support SLI, so if you ever plan on getting a second GPU you should go a different route.

Memory - You should seriously just get the cheapest RAM you can find since you can't utilize XMP. RAM is the only computer components that is actually created equal, other than manufacturers with high failure rates.

SSD - Don't get that SSD. It's faster than any HDD out there, but at the same time slow for an SSD. I know it's tempting to cheap out on a few parts like the SSD, but it's certainly worth it to spend a bit more. I'd recommend this SSD.

HDD - Do you really need 2TB of storage? I don't hear many bad things about Hitachi, but I still think you'd be better off with a Western Digital HDD. If you really do need/want the 2TB hard drive, it looks like it's quite a nice deal for that price and I wish you luck with it.

GPU - You're gaming at 1080p60 and expecting "high settings". This card is overkill. Do yourself a favor and get an RX 480 or a GTX 1060. On the other hand, if you don't plan to upgrade for 4-5 years, the GTX 1070 is perfectly fine. As far as aftermarket cards go: For AMD, I'd recommend PowerColor/XFX and for NVIDIA I'd recommend EVGA.

Case - Solid case, but I think you could stand to spend a bit more for a Fractal Design Define R5 if you decide to buy a less expensive GPU. I'd recommend it anyways, but the less you spend the better, I assume.

PSU - At this point, I recommend no PSU other than this one. The PSU is a very important PC part that you shouldn't cheap out on, and this PSU in particular is one of the best.

u/niky45 · 2 pointsr/buildapc

spain, huh?? amazon.es will be your best bet, trust me (I'm also from spain, and the best prices I've seen here are amazon's)

Also, that build is good, very good for a mid-term gaming PC, as long as you are sure you want to stick with intel. I mean, you have pretty good AMD CPU's out there, better than that intel and for less money, say, THIS is one of the best (affordable) CPU's out there... and is cheaper than the intel. sure there are better CPU's but cost at least twice!! (I'm thinking of unlocked i7's, which are the only that can offer 8 threads... ) 4 threads are good for right now, but may be not enough in a FEW years (I'm used to plan ahead and make my rigs useful for at least 4 years... last one lasted like 7 years with minor (GPU) upgrades.)

GPU-wise, the 270X is only like 10€ more, and could be worth it. just take a look at videocardbenchmark.net and compare the performance of both of them. (note: they also have CPU data, so take a look at it!! )

also, you need to think about the HDD. you'll want a big and fast one, probably a 2Tb WD caviar blue would be good enough (I'm using the caviar green and while EVERYBODY will tell you is slow as hell, since it's not even a 7200rpm drive... it works good enough for me). I don't recommend reusing an old HDD, for two reasons:

one, HDD's life is "limited", I wouldn't trust a drive for more tan, say, a few years (5 or so). I myself use them for way longer, but my old seagates are in a raid 1 (mirror). else I wouldn't be trusting them, and they would be gathering dust.

and two, HDD's are cheap enough... and for a gaming PC you'll wat a big one (at least 1 Tb, trust me, it seems much but it will get filled sooner than you think) WD caviar blue 1 Tb even a raid 0 of those would be good (note I can't find the 2 Tb caviar blue right now, not sure why.... a green could do, or else, a raid 0 of blues would be even faster.) Also, a system SSD would be nice, but not essential.

Yup. India. Blew my mind when I realised that's how cheap it would be.

CPU : Intel i5 6402p

Motherboard : Gigabyte H110M-DS2

PSU : Corsair VS Series VS550

GPU : Zotac GTX 960 4GB DDR5

RAM : 8GB DDR4 Kingston HyperX Fury Black Series 2133 MHz

Online, the cost goes up to 63k, but if you buy from a retailer, you'll get it about 4k cheaper, especially the graphic card, and they'll even assemble it for you if you pay them.

u/NorthStarPC · 2 pointsr/buildapcforme

Ok, so this PC build is a little over the $700, coming in about $800-ish after taxes. I did go with a Ryzen 7 due to the benefits of extra cores for graphic design and other workstation tasks that you may be doing in the future. This PC should run the vast majority of 1080p games at Maximum settings and can even handle moderate 1440p gaming. Every component is found on Amazon.

I also went with a more compact, grey design that really makes your build blend in with the desktop environment while still looking beautiful from the outside. The mATX form factor also means that your PC could fit into tight spaces.

Hope you enjoy this build.

ABSOLUTELY.

The fact that it can even be done with stock parts (although granted it won't be aesthetically pleasing given the case restrictions), drives the point home, but that also limits profitability by the manufacturers, and like i said also makes them ugly, so it makes sense that companies like Valve are designing integrated-system boxes that can run smaller and trim the fat, thus making room for profit.

The other major sticking point is Windows, which is precisely why we have steamOS. I hope it catches on. Windows is a great general purpose OS, don't get me wrong, but it eats resources that could be used in gaming, and also would devourer $100 of your build unless you uh, have connections.

That being said, allow me to demonstrate:

PC Case & PSU: $50

CPU: i3-4150: $120

MOBO: MSI H81M-E33: $50

4GB Ram: Crucial: $36

WD Blue 1TB HDD: $60

MSI GT 640: $84

Grand total: $400

I'd bet that total it would smoke a ps4 or an xbone, too.

Edit: I can't math, I'm $16 over with the GT650. So here's a GT640 that makes it work. Still beats a console.

Edit 2: regarding lifespan, that's a silly restriction. First, I've gone through FOUR xboxes in 8 years. The last one has only lasted becuase i mainly switched to a PS3 in the last few (edit 3: Three PS3s, but IIRC only one was due to death, the first got sold). Having said that, I have every confidence the build above will last 8 years, provided it doesn't die in the first 3 months. PCs are like that. Either they croak right away because you did something wrong like not provide enough airflow or have a bad part, or they last forever, like the dell desktop I have sitting in my office with a Core 2 Duo from 2007, or the studio-pc my old band used to record our album that I'm SURE the singer never updated, and is running a Pentium 4 and Windows XP (he's of the if it ain't broke variety).

Besides, what someone else down the line said, if you're going to compare apples to apples, add xbox live/psn sub fees for 8 years in, that automatically adds another ~$400 to the cost of the machine. That's a HELL of a lot of headroom for upgrades. And this isn't even taking into account the general cheapness of games on PC vs. consoles. Games usually start $10 cheaper on PC and will tend to drop immediately after launch - if you can wait a day or a week, you can usually get most games for $35 or less, so figure an average of $25/game savings, lets say 4 games a year (hah), and we're talking ANOTHER $800 saved over the lifespan you are suggesting.

TLDR: PC is cheaper, but requires more commitment (duh). There is something to be said about the console's ease-of-use where even my 3-year-old son can figure out how to turn on the PS3 and watch a cartoon on Amazon or play Pacman, or turn on the Wii U and play NSMB or Pikmin 3.

There are no external speakers provided in the build so you would have to use the Monitor's speakers through the HDMI. But this is an easy £30 upgrade in the future. The processor is a Haswell i5 and can be upgraded to an i7 Haswell with no compatibility issues. The GPU is also easily upgradable in the future.

The PC should run games much, much better than the prebuilt one you showed me. Again, building a PC is very easy to do if you watch a guide on the internet. It is comparable to LEGO pieces with a bit of wiring thrown in to make it more fun.

I think I will go with this build, although I do have one question. How does Seagate compare in general with Western Digital? I've had some other brands die on me (Lacie), but WD has always been solid. Is your opinion of Seagate the same?

If WD is superior, what do you think of this model as a replacement? I understand it exceeds my budget slightly.

Thank you again!

First off, thank you a ton. I asked a friend of mine to look at the build (sorry, but I like to check things :P, I'm paranoid), and he said it looks great. I was curious though if you had the time to verify a few things for me. I couldn't find a few of the things you had suggested so I checked on some other things... Could you verify that they are just as usable for me please?

Now, I have a few questions.

How will I know if the cooler is going to fit and not be in the way of anything?

I can't seem to find any small cases that have the features of the larger ones (vents, top and side fans). Should I just stay with a larger case?

I need an s/pdif optical for my speakers. Should I get a pcie card or external usb?

How will I know if the video card hangs over the spare pcie slot?

First of all, use a 500-550 watt power supply. Of you use a 750 watt psu for this build, you're just wasting money as more capacity doesn't mean better performance. Generally, you should use the lowest power supply that is higher than the max power draw of your build. 500 watts is fine. Also, get a 120 gb or 250 GB SSD and then a 1tb or 2tb hard drive. If you store your games on an ssd, they will only get a minor decrease in load times. However, your os will improve drastically. This is a very good 1tb hard drive. Get a b150 or a b250 if you don't plan on over clocking your cpu, otherwise you're fine.optical drives are useless. Get an nzxt s340 case. They're cheaper and better.

This is the absolute cheapest build that can run games at decent settings at 900p/1080p.I wouldn't recommend going any lower than these specs.

Motherboard : (Any lga 1150 mobo will do) [Asus h81m cs]

Thank you for taking the time to help me with this build. I appreciate the help from someone who is experienced with building PCs. I have a couple of new questions about the parts in the list you provided:
Why did you upgrade it to 16GB of RAM? I'm not planning on doing VR gaming, and I've learned through doing some online research that the most RAM that a large majority of games need is 8GB.
Since this configuration consumes only 230W, could I just downgrade the PSU to this one?
I noticed that none of the vendors in your list are Amazon. My original thinking was that it would be cheaper to ship these parts all at the same time using Amazon Prime. Do these other vendors offer better support/customer service?
Here's a new list that I came up with, based on your recommendations:

You don't need the CPU cooler for your CPU since you cannot overclock it. I would get a mechanical HD for storage like this one

u/Amdestroyer94 · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I would advice you should buy a ryzen instead of upgrading to a already dead platform. A ryzen 1200+b350+8gb ddr4 ram will be ideal choice. I would have waited till zen+ (March-April) next year, but since your pc is dying, it's upto you whether you can hold on.Though 8350 with 1050ti will not be a bottleneck, but may affect in your future gpu purchase. I just checked the total price came less than 300 euros. You can wait till Christmas or buy right away since there are great discounts even now. If you want more cpu performance I would advice you go with r5 1400 or r5 1600, still total price is less than 400 euros.

so uh yeah, do Not do this:

>"do you think at this price the best deal is to buy a prebuilt PC with a second gen quad core I5 (2400) and buy a 1050ti to add in?"

its a shitty deal, youre getting a six generations old cpu, with ddr3 ram and a questionable hdd in there. just save like 30 extra pounds or check what u/agentt30 suggested, perhaps that builds section is updated and can offer you someting nicer than what i slapped together lazily. or if you cant save but like this then i saw 1050's that went for 109 pounds, which would get you down to 401 pounds. still no case but im not even gonna look into that because i dont know or care what kind of case you want.

  2. Don't get a green WD drive. You can get a blue at 7200 rpm at the same price. http://www.amazon.com/Blue-SATA-7200rpm-Internal-Drive/dp/B0088PUEPK
u/aidanrooney95 · 1 pointr/letsplay

I read that 1tb is the sweet spot for storage and speed balance. A HDD gets slower as it fills so the bigger the drive the slower it gets: http://www.hdtune.com/HDTune_Benchmark.gif

Also getting a dedicated HDD for recording is good advice (1 for recording, one for game installs/OS/everything else).

the higher the rpm will also make a difference, 7200 is your best option (or higher if that's a thing). And partitioning your HDD also helps. As it gets slower, you should partition a section for recording, once you're done move it to the larger part for storage. For example i bought a 1tb WD blue HDD for my fraps recordings, partition the first 300gb, which is plenty for if i want to record for a few hours. Then after i move it to my other partition (600gb) and then i can record more back on the first 300gb (fastest part) or edit and delete those files on the storage part. It takes often up to 30 mins to move the files, but you get better speeds and hard drives are often the bottleneck for recording and you may drop lots of frames or just get bad fps if you get a cheap one.

Here's the HDD i have, i own 3 of them now ^_^ http://www.amazon.co.uk/1TB-inch-Internal-Hard-Drive/dp/B0088PUEPK?tag=gdext-21

u/alexm901 · 1 pointr/buildapc

Also get this CPU cooler instead of the TX3. It provides better cooling for only a couple of pounds extra: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cooler-Master-Hyper-212-120mm/dp/B0068OI7T8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1426430458&sr=8-1&keywords=evo+212

Is this US only? I only ask given that you say it must be prime eligible, and Prime is specific to each Amazon site (ie I don't have Prime on amazon.com or .ca, only .co.uk). It's a very generous contest either way!

Edit: A couple of others seem to have entered from the UK, so I'll post just in case. Despite having a full wishlist of computer upgrades, I only found 3 that are both under £65 and prime elgible. I shall go for the hard drive, which will allow me to move the recording of music from my old laptop to my awesome desktop.

Commence explanation!
^(My desktop is running Windows 8. My audio interface is a Firewire one. Microsoft rewrote the Firewire drivers for reasons which currently escape me, basically trying to improve them and failing. So they have been including the older driver, which was the only one that worked for many audio interfaces. Windows 8, however, lacks the legacy driver. Therefore, I need a Windows 7 boot for my audio interface to work. I tried a dual boot, but whenever I boot into Windows 7, it messes with the filesystem on 8 for reasons I can't explain, causing every partition of every drive to be marked as "dirty" on one of the OSes but not the other, and making 7 chkdsk on every boot until I go into 7, chkdsk /f every partition, go into 8, chkdsk /f every partition, go into 7, chkdsk /f every partition, go into 8, and finally chkdsk /f every partition. Which is great. Until I try to use 7 again.)

Hello, Goodbye~.

Western digital and Seagate are usually solid choices. Reddit loves western digital but idk what the general consensus is for Seagate. Personally I've been using a Seagate 1 tb for the past 3 years with no issues.

Edit. Found this on sale for $63. Great deal, I might pick it up as well.

I don't know if there's an issue with pcpp but...I found that HDD on Amazon UK for £51, here, but it is listed at £104 on your pcpp list. I'd go with the one I linked (I presume this is what you were looking at anyway) and use that to cut costs, or use said funds to buy a better GPU (like the GTX650Ti Boost as /u/Giotar suggested); yours is good but there's always room for improvements ;D.

u/gen_angry · 1 pointr/buildapc

The stock Ryzen cooler is surprisingly competent so I'd drop the third party one.

The motherboard is pricey but I assume you want something from it. Otherwise the MSI B450 that was suggested in another comment is a solid option for a lot less money.

Do you need the black series 1TB? The WD Blue EZEX 1TB spins at the same rotation rate and is pretty much neck-and-neck in performance but costs far less.

Not a bad price on the PSU if you actually plan on doing the rebate. If not, drop that down to a 550 or 650 and you'll be fine.

Use the savings above to switch to an RX580 or a GTX 1660 or stronger if you want to splurge a bit. Just keep in mind that going too much further than that will not have as much of an effect while you're using a 1080p 60hz screen, as the two options I posted will cap the framerate easily on max settings. If you plan on picking up a new screen with higher refresh rates or resolution in the near future then disregard.

WD 1TB Blue - $47 on Amazon
WD 8TB Red - $140 on Amazon, but you have to shuck the drive.

Get a bigger bang for your buck.

If you can shell out another 40 bucks, you could get this and this that way you have an ssd for your OS and 1tb for storage.

get this ram and save $31. drop the optical as they are not really needed any more to save an additional $17. use that extra $48 and get this hdd which is only $10 more. so now you have an extra $38 dollars off which brings you to $344 and you know have twice the drive space.

!check

Thank you for the advice. I found this HDD on amazon and forgot to change the list. When you refer to a "500b" what part are you referring to? Sorry if it's obvious, I haven't worked on computers in a few years and I'm a bit rusty.

u/Cyntax3rr0r · 1 pointr/obs

If you're getting another platter drive, just about any 7200rpm drive will do. The Western Digital WD10EZEX is cheap, reliable, and benchmarks at around 160MB/s. That would be fine for recording 1080p 60fps.

If you're getting SSDs for your OS/games disk, I've used both the Samsung 850 EVO and the ADATA Premier with great results. Both of those systems have 2 SSDs in RAID 0, for double the read/write speeds. That's not necessary, but it is cool to have over 1GB/s in read/write.

Either option should help with the hard drive bottleneck. I haven't checked benchmarks for your 4590, but that's a relatively new chip. You could always add more RAM, but only if you deem that you need it. H264 likes to eat memory. That will improve your encoding times if you're editing your footage in Adobe Premiere or Sony Vegas. I think you should be fine after recording to a separate drive though. If you're still having issues, it may be aggressive/overly demanding settings in OBS.

u/much_longer_username · 1 pointr/techsupport

Given that you've already experienced data corruption / loss, and that a drive with those specs can be had for about 50 bucks these days, I really wouldn't bother with reusing that drive.

Also keep in mind that for double the price you can have four times the storage

u/LastInitial · 1 pointr/buildapc

Nice build. I would have gone with a 256 GB SSD for the (typically) faster write speeds and space for more games to load quickly. I would have gone with a 1 TB non-caviar blue series drive from WD purely for storage purposes of music, pictures, and video (Got mine for $62 on Amazon -- http://www.amazon.com/WD-Blue-Desktop-Hard-Drive/dp/B0088PUEPK/ref=sr_1_4?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1377748640&sr=1-4). I would format the 1 TB with 64k sectors for faster speeds as well.

Good choice on the CPU, i5 is generally best choice for non-professionals in terms of cost/reward.

No case can beat this:
http://www.amazon.com/Thermaltake-Level-VN10001W2N-Tower-Black/dp/B004K1ELF0

Don't know about going lower but I do know that you can get more bang for your buck. For instance, you can get One TB HDD bare in mind it isn't as good as its 1TB WD Black, and the 960 is the closest competitor to the 380 for a little cheaper (Like 5 to 10 dollars cheaper)

u/rangerxxll · 1 pointr/computers

Reason for me buying this instead of building is because I'm looking to expand and get familiar with building. I don't feel comfortable going in with no knowledge and only having youtube/reddit by my side. I'd rather gradually expand on one, rather than build it from scratch. At least for now.

Also - I'm probably going to end up buying a new HDD. I was looking at this one: http://www.amazon.com/Blue-Desktop-Hard-Disk-Drive/dp/B0088PUEPK/ref=sr_1_3?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1451866426&sr=1-3&keywords=sata+hard+drive but I've never installed one before. I understand what you need to do, such as: Install SATA connector/psu connector, and mount the HDD - but I'm just not sure how to install a OS onto the HDD.

As you may have noticed, my current HDD isn't detected. It shows up in the BIOS - but I'm unable to install a new OS because it doesn't detect any partitions (or the actual drive). Would purchasing a new HDD solve this issue and just make it so the system detects it? That way I can install a OS? My current hard drive seems to be "Locked" or something. It's just strange how this PC was built with new components, and it died that easily.

I'm beginning to wonder if the components were cold when I first booted the device on and it destroyed the hard drive. I didn't really sit and wait a few hours before plugging it in. It could of also got banged around during transport and something killed it. I just don't know.

Looks good, some of the prices seem high. I got that same ssd about two weeks ago for $65 (it was a good sale) but it seems to drop to around $70 or so fairly often. The ram is a bit expensive also, could go with a cheaper option and save at least $10 here.

Would also get this hdd instead, I'm a big fan of WD and I have that same drive.

u/kazolgue · 1 pointr/buildapc

In the Corsair website http://www.corsair.com/en-us/carbide-series-spec-01-red-led-mid-tower-gaming-case it says that your case has space for a Graphics card 414mm long. The Sapphire R9 390 is 308mm loong so it will fit.

I would get both if possible. The 250GB SSD for your operative system/programs and games that have many loading screens (like Skyrim). And an 1TB HDD for mass storage (other games, movies, fotos, etc).

I would go with the ssd i said above (850 evo) and this hdd: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Western-Digital-WD10EZEX-3-5-Inch-Internal/dp/B0088PUEPK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1453383308&sr=8-1&keywords=wd+blue+1tb

Enclosure: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GAML7OK/
Drive: https://www.amazon.com/Blue-Cache-Desktop-Drive-WD10EZEX/dp/B0088PUEPK/

It's a USB 3.0 enclosure w/a 1Tb drive.

I've tried w/MBR or GPT, unallocated space, NTFS drive, FAT32 drive. Any combination thereof. I've tried the USB in all of the ports. The drive is externally powered so I don't think that is an issue.

> IDK why it's cheaper. It even has decent reviews so I wouldn't think it's bad RAM.

Alright I think I'll go with that RAM then. The mobo seems to support it, with 1600 being the maximum.

>Don't where you heard that my fellow redditor but I myself had a Seagate Barracuda HDD for 5 months now and it is still working so I wouldn't think it's crap.

Hmm I just read it around on reddit and /g/ that Seagate was a bit iffy, as well as on the amazon pages. The Seagate one is less popular and has worst reviews than the WD one, so I'm not too sure.

> Crossfire support and 4 RAM slots.Plain and simple.

Right so this mobo only has two slots. So it can only fit a 2x4GB in there? Bit of a stupid question but a 2x4gb does covers two slots, right? Would you say this motherboard is better? Or should I perhaps get a 1x8gb ram? And I'm not exactly sure what crossfire is, but I've looked it up and apparently it's to do with having more GPUs I believe? If so, I'm not sure I will have more than one, as it seems more expensive and I'm not sure the case will be big enough. It's a possibility though.

>It's okay but I recommend going with my build instead as it has free shipping on all parts while also having a better mobo.

Right yeah. The mobo definitely is better, but I'm not sure if it's worth nearly £30 more. I might consider the other motherboard though, as a potential upgrade for RAM seems like a good idea. You changed the GPU to a different vendor, but Novatech does delivery for free as well I believe. And I forgot to change the case to the same vendor as yours, as yours did have the free delivery.

Couldn't quite navigate properly since search results only allowed Japanese characters, so I couldn't find appropriate choices for a monitor or a good WiFi adapter (which is necessary if you want to use WiFi). I'm also not familiar with Japanese PSUs, so I didn't recommend one. I wouldn't want to suggest something low quality, since bad PSUs can ruin your entire system.

Also, the 'English' version of the website always reverted back to the Japanese version after you left that specific link, so I couldn't quite use the sorting function so there can be some components I chose that are overpriced. I would really recommend double checking the parts I chose on Amazon to see if there are cheaper alternatives.

If the build is way over budget, I would suggest you get a cheaper R9 290 instead.

Is there a way to check if my HD is too loud? I built my pc two weeks ago and my new HD, well, is louder than my previous drive. Not sure if something is wrong or it's normal, since it's a 7200 RPM drive and my older drive was 5400 RPM. Or maybe I didn't place it correctly in the case/needs foam pads.
HD is a WD WD10EZEX Blue, 1 TB. Case is GX500, if that matters. I just want to know if everything is fine or not, the noise is not disturbing.

There's a few things, first of all Intel K series cpu's don't come with a cooler in the box, so you will need one. A good (but pricey) cpu cooler is the Noctua NH-D15. If you would like something more affordable the Cryorig H7 will work, although the temps will be higher than the former.

Yes, all desktop ram will fit into all desktop motherboards (sodimm or laptop ram will not).

The hard drive you selected doesen't have great reviews, for $8 more you can get a [WD Blue](https://www.amazon.com/Blue-Cache-Desktop-Drive-WD10EZEX/dp/B0088PUEPK

/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1537074431&sr=1-1&keywords=western+digital+-+caviar+blue+1tb+3.5%22+7200rpm+internal+hard+drive) or a Seagate Barracudda, both more reputable.

The cases you linked are good for their price, but you will most likely need 1-2 more case fans as they only come with 1. If you would like some cheap fans these will do, but they wont be as good as something like the Noctua NF-F12

Dont worry about asking questions! It's what we are here for :) I'm sure I missed something, so if you have any other questions make sure to ask!

Edit 1: Do you already have windows? If not make sure to but it, as you wont have an Operation System without it (Unless you want to run linux).

Those stats are for commodity Seagate Barracuda and WD Blue drives.

WD Blue 1TB, $50 Amazon

Seagate Barracuda 2TB, $60, Amazon

Good luck finding a cheaper hard drive over a terabyte.

Your hard drive is pretty insignificant when it comes to competitive gaming performance. Most hard drives are perfectly fine.

Well, like I said- the differences in speed aren't going to be life changing.

A 2.5" 250GB SSD for your OS and random stuff for ~$100, plus a 1TB HDD for games and media for~$50 will probably be the best bang for your buck. If you ever get tired of the 10 second load screens, you can pick up a 500GB SSD for your games library for ~$175

You'd probably want one of these. But, it's only 5400 RPM.

Alternatively, you get one of these with one of these which would cost a bit more, but would have better speeds(and smaller load times.)

Best bet is to just buy a larger hard drive. Can get a 1tb for very little money.

https://www.amazon.com/Blue-Cache-Desktop-Drive-WD10EZEX/dp/B0088PUEPK

Either clone their drive to the new one (so you don't lose current data) or add the 1 TB as a secondary drive for mass storage.

Getting an external hard drive is helpful as well. It actually can help people stop saving so much stuff. They don't want to transfer everything, so they start to learn to delete things.

Yeah I actually noticed a minute ago that there was no HD there so I was looking around. They would potentially be okay with an SSD if the performance boost was noticeable. I've never actually used a computer with one that I know of (unfortunately), but would it be something that would help a lot? I know it would boot faster and whatnot, which to someone who doesn't know a ton about computers would probably look like proof that it runs well. Alternatively, I was thinking something along the lines of this to keep it basic if I didn't get an SSD

u/_Colty_ · 1 pointr/buildapc

That'll run LOL, CS:GO, and Overwatch quite well. I wouldn't go with an SSD alone, but that's your choice. Personally, I would get a standard 1TB HDD, these can be found for $50 (Seagate and Western Digital are the recommended) and then get an SSD for booting and basic programs. Then put all of your games on the HDD.

This (which your motherboard should support based off of what I'm seeing)

I'm looking at a WD Blue 1TB 7200 RPM 3.5'' + HDD enclosure and I was planning on just downloading the steam games to a steam library on the hard drive. I can't really afford any of the more expensive solutions like upgrading the storage on my ssd, so I was looking at other solutions. Would this work? What are the downsides to this? Are there better solutions? I currently plan on playing anything from smaller less intensive titles like hollow knight all the way to things like dark souls iii. Thank you!

u/grifftaur · 1 pointr/buildapcsales

Closest I could find on Amazon. New Egg seems to be about the same in price.

u/expiredgoatmeal · 1 pointr/starterpacks

first of all the difference in startup is more like 4 minutes once you factor in all your programs starting. windows itself takes ~1.5 mins to startup on a spinning disk.

second of all,

this + this is the same price as this.

it’s better to go with 2 if you have a desktop where you have pretty much unlimited drive space.

in a laptop, you either have only m.2 slots, so you can only go for ssds, or you have m.2 and sata, so the same advice rings true (m.2 ssds are an extra $5-10 at most).

you can put windows, chrome, steam, discord, any adobe products if you use them, and 1-3 games on it.

keep in mind 2tb hdd’s go for $45 sometimes, so you can get double the storage as an sshd, with an ssd, for the same price. no reason not to imo.

Hi, So I built my current rig back in April 2017 and thought I'd upgrade this black friday but I dont know what to upgrade. I'm running:

Case: Fractal Design Core 1000 USB 3.0 Case

Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-H110M-A LGA1151 Intel H110 Micro ATX DDR4 Motherboard

Processor: Intel 3.70 GHz Core i3-6100 3M

Graphics card: GIGABYTE Geforce GTX 1050 2GB

RAM: 1 stick of Corsair Vengeance LPX 8GB DDR4 Dram

Power Supply: EVGA 430 W1

Storage: WD Blue 1TB Sata Hard Drive

This is the only PC I've ever built and I've never upgraded before. I would like to upgrade my CPU because its an i3 and I know its getting outdated but I dont know if thats the only thing needing an upgrade. I usually get 150+ frames on Counter-Strike and around 120fps on Overwatch but these are all on low settings. However I just recently bought BO4 and can barely run at 60 fps at low. Any advice as to what processor I need to upgrade to?

u/Pokemonzu · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I was planning to build a pc with a similar budget but ended up getting an older pc to upgrade from a relative.

Here's my partlist tho, it's about $800 without a monitor, keyboard and mouse, etc.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/rBbtyf

According to benchmarks on youtube this kind of build should be able to run AAA games at 1080p, maxed, 60fps+.

I listed an SSD (like a hard drive but a lot faster) that has 250GB, but you could switch it out for (or just add) this 1TB hard drive that is pretty popular: https://www.amazon.com/Blue-Cache-Desktop-Drive-WD10EZEX/dp/B0088PUEPK

Alternatively you could a more expensive but better value HDD: https://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Desktop-3-5Inch-Internal-ST3000DM001/dp/B006KCX0UE

Feel free to ask any questions (I haven't actually built a pc yet, but I've been looking online about it for a several months now). Oh yeah, and a great place to pick your parts is pcpartpicker.com.

Edit: Oh, I also chose a mini tower mini-ATX motherboard and case, which is smaller but may be harder to work with and offers some expansion but not as much as a mid or full tower with ATX. PCpartpicker has a compatibility checker that only shows you compatible parts when picking them, so that should help if you wanted to change some parts in my list.

The Ryzen 5 1600 comes with a built in cooler, so you can remove the aftermarket cooler. This DDR4 is a little bit cheaper. Also, if you're patient, you can find a cheaper GTX 1070 from this page. I recommend making an account and turning on email alerts as well as email notifications on your phone. I managed to find a Asus GTX 1070 Strix for $399 USD this way. Most modern 7200 rpm 1 TB drives have 64mb's of cache. Such as this one: https://www.amazon.com/Blue-Cache-Desktop-Drive-WD10EZEX/dp/B0088PUEPK/ref=lp_2248325011_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1486454810&sr=1-1 . Yes there will be a difference is speed, but not a very big one. Mostly with moving small files around. However when looking at smaller than 1 TB drives platter density will have a bigger effect on speed, The smaller the storage amount, the less dense the platter which means slower performance. It wont really be that big of a difference. However it's been a while since I've really looked at HDD's, I keep a 3 TB drive around for longer term backup and do most of my work off of an SSD.

For $10 less you can get this PNY 120gb SSD which has a 550MB/s read and 520Mb/s write speed. I would also swap out that Seagate HDD for this Western Digital HDD because Seagate drives are known to be unreliable, however the WD drive is a few bucks more, but I'd say it's worth it.

I am not too familiar with AMD components, but here are two (SSD,HDD) alternative storage devices that are similar or cheaper price and should work just as well or better (258GB SSD as compared to 128GB). I cut down 1TB on the hard drive simply because 1.25TB should be plenty, but if you feel you need more than that, the hard drive you have should be good. There are some slightly cheaper cases that would work out just as well if you're going for a budget, if you're choose it for the looks, it looks like a fine case.

As for your GPU, I found this one that should work out well, however, I would consider looking into a 770 or something similar for AMD. I choose the EVGA card simply because they have absolutely fantastic consumer support and I've had no problems with them so far, you can always look into other brands.

For gaming you are over-spending on the CPU. Those monster i7X chips are great for server applications or high end workstations.

A 200 dollar i5 would be more than enough. This also lets you spend less on a motherboard. ASUS is the gold standard there. MSI is fine. Not amazing. Fine.

The cheaper CPU and board save you around 200 bucks easily combined.

RAM is fine, but look I just saved you 60 bucks.

Going to brand critique you now on drives.

Go with this from Crucial.

Diese Teile sollten gut zusammen laufen.
Bemerkungswert ist das Ryzen mit schnelleren RAM schneller lauft!
Leider wohne ich in England, also kenne ich keine Supermarkte usw die PC's verkaufen!

It's not that the Ryzen won't give you better performance than the i5 without OC. It's just that it won't give you its best performance.

But even without overclocking, I think the 6 core Ryzen will be more VFM for you than the i5 considering they're both about the same price bracket. I would suggest you get the Ryzen with a B350 board and not OC right now if you don't want to. But the board will allow you to do so, if you feel the need later.

EDIT: Here's a similar budget build to your current one. I've used some of the same parts as well but dropped the optical drive.

Does this WD Blue 1TB Desktop Hard Disk Drive - 7200 RPM SATA 6 Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5 Inch https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0088PUEPK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_hdt3mIoMVvuQH require any kind of prep? I installed it into my first PC and the bios won't detect it.

I'm personally not 100% sure on the performance on Pentium chips in general but assuming thats sufficient for the games, the only other thing I'd change is the hdd.

I'd go with something newer. I have a bad feeling about a $26 old velociraptor drive, sold by a third party seller, as your primary system drive. For $25 more you can get a terabyte and a brand new drive. I imagine as well that performance isn't that different between a really old 10k RPM drive and a brand new 7200RPM drive.

Alright. Here's the build. It will be around 470 after tax. Its pretty decent, especially for the 500 dollar range. It will play whatever you throw at it without much of an issue. Its quite upgradeable. Its on the AM4 platform so in years to come when you need an upgrade you could find a faster used AMD AM4 CPU without an issue. Could buy one of the latest GPU's during the time as this PSU has 6 and 8 pin power connectors.

IDK how you want to build it. I could find some video explaining it. We could video call or whatever they call it when you're ready to build. Or any other ideas.
