If you take a look at camelcamelcamel for the price-tracking you will that this price fluctuates between $499 to $422. It has been dropping 6 to 7 dollars each day. The last time it went to $422 it bounced back up in price. So keep an eye on the price or pull the trigger if it appeals to you.

There is one available used -like new in Amazon Warehouse for $380.00. These come with a 5-year international warranty. Unfortunately, they will not ship the used one to me as I live outside the US.

>Sorry if this isn’t where to ask but you guys are pretty informed on parts so this made sense to me. I have an ASUS laptop, the TP510UA. It has an m,2 slot for an ssd and the stock hard drive. Last year I put in a 256 gb ssd and kept the stock drive. However now I’m running low on storage on both drives. I was looking on Newegg and I was originally thinking of upgrading just the hard drive to 2tb with the Seagate Fircuda, I’d need a hard drive docking station to transfer data. While I was looking I decided to add a 512 gb Samsung 970 pro and the cart total comes close to $300, and it would be close to $300 if I just and only got the 970 pro but in the 1tb format.

You most likely don't need a 970 pro.

Here's a good 2TB m.2 SSD for $225.

Be aware there are two different versions of that laptop; a 15.6" version and a 14" version. The 15.6" version comes with a 128GB SSD and a 1TB HDD. The 14" version comes with a 256GB SSD and it has no 2.5" drive bay for a HDD or additional SSD.

Just an FYI... the max m.2 SATA SSD storage capacity is currently 2TB, but it's not cheap. And you would also need to purchase a USB to m.2 SATA adapter in order to clone Windows 10 and everything to a replacement m.2 SATA SSD.

You can get a 2TB WD Blue for $237. Worth it.

I use that as a badass external drive in a Silverstone thumb key. Perfect for my job as it has all my movies, TV, etc.

Just bear in mind that this drive uses a SATAIII interface in m.2 format, not NVME.

I got one of these and put a 250gb system partition on it so I can wipe windows without losing my data on the larger storage partition. Depending on the task you are using your laptop for, there might not be any for super fast NVMe drive, this m.2 SATA drive is perfect for gaming and media.

Gotcha. Not sure taping the drive to the inside of the case is going to improve things though lol.

Does your motherboard have a slot for an m.2 ssd? That might keep things from looking cluttered, they're much smaller than regular drives.

Form Factor (size):

  • 3.5" drive (desktop hdd's)
  • 2.5" drive (laptop hdd's and ssd's)
  • m.2 drive (always flash memory, interface can be sata or nvme)

    Speeds:
  • sata
  • nvme (faster, though in typical use you won't see a difference)

An m.2 sata drive is not to expensive. Like $110 for 1tb and $225 for 2tb's:

m.2 nvme drives are usually a lot more expensive.

I doubt it, but I'd say we can definitely try doing WD 2TB and see if it works. I'm ordering it right now through amazon and I will let you know if it works. The price seems valid for 2tb option. https://www.amazon.com/Blue-NAND-2TB-SSD-WDS200T2B0B/dp/B073SBW3VD/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=ssd%2B2tb%2Bm.2%2Bsata&qid=1558750677&s=electronics&sr=1-3&th=1

Thanks for the reply! I thought that the X299 followup would be X399. Which chipset are the i9 X-series using?

I meant these WD M.2s. I copy-pastaed my own txt-file from my Desktop and didn't notice I had the "fast SSD"-mention there. It just ...meant that those are faster than the slowpoke SSDs that I also would have in the system.

Idea was to pick up three SSDs that have PCIe M.2 support on the motherboard.

u/brendanw36 · 1 pointr/buildapc

The one thing I would recommend is this 2TB M.2 drive instead of the one you have. It's a little cheaper, but of the same quality as the Samsung one you had. They are both TLC M.2 SATA drives so they should perform the same. I also semi-hesitantly recommend this M.2 NVMe because on paper this one is almost exactly the same as the one you have listed, but the one thing I can't tell is if it is SLC/MLC/TLC etc. The read and writes speeds are basically the same which means that they should be the same, but manufactures rarely report the bits per cell so I just can't 100% confirm it.

u/BillyDSquillions · 1 pointr/hardware

> They now have a 256Gb die in production. A package fits 8 dies, and a M.2 2280 ssd (single-sided) 4 packages. That results in a 1TB ssd.

Don't we already have that, in M.2 format? If not 2TB

u/N64Chad · 1 pointr/buildapc

I've concluded that it's better to invest money in a larger SATA SSD than to get an NVMe SSD.

The one I currently have my eye on, is a WD Blue 3D 2 TB M.2 SSD for around $240. I'm wondering if anyone has experience with this drive, and if it keeps its speed. (Also drawn in by the M.2 form.)

u/ALUmusic · 1 pointr/FL_Studio

This SSD on Amazon runs about $237 US. Can you look at the underside of your MacBook air and tell me the model number?

u/quadcrazyy · 1 pointr/buildapc

What reputation do Intel M.2 SSD's have? I'm wondering why this NVMe Intel SSD is so much cheaper than this WD SATA SSD. Shouldn't an NVMe SSD generally be more expensive than a SATA?
