Does North Korea count? I think NK is fascinating in a really appalling way. I would NEVER visit in a million years, but I read/watch everything about it that I come across.
Edit: If you're interested, I'd highly recommend Without You, There Is No Us: Undercover Among the Sons of North Korea's Elite. It's written by a South Korean/American woman who taught college-level English in North Korea for about a year, up until Kim Jong Il died. Really interesting to learn about daily life and the mindset of the young people, as well as the weird things they consider normal.
Like, the students thought that their university intranet was the shit but had no concept of what the real internet was and what it was capable of.
Also, power outages are common in North Korea, and when the author told the students that they are extremely uncommon in America, their reaction was, "But you have to pay for your power! Ours is provided for free by the great Kim Jong Il!" Crazy stuff.
For the curious, this is a book about the author’s experience doing essentially this exact job but for English.
Starting small.. I bought this book about North Korea and I intend to finish it this month. I want to read more and watch TV less.
