Everyone here needs to get some xpand laces. They look just as good as normal laces only you can shove your foot in and still have your shoes fit snug. I have them on all my shoes now and I'm never going back to the struggle to jam my foot in an already tied shoe.
My husband (not ASD but has ADHD) uses a pair of elastic laces that turns sneakers into slip on shoes. You lace and tie your shoes with them normally, cut off the excess lace, use a lighter to melt the end to keep it from unraveling, then put a little clip on the ends to cover up the clipped area. IMO they look pretty nice (people have complimented him on how they look interesting) and the only problem he's had with them is that after 8 months one of the end clips fell off. So far it hasn't affected the functionality at all.
This is the brand he uses if you want to give it a try. You might be able to find something similar in a shoe store but we couldn't and ordered it online for $10.
