I've never used a hard mouse pad so these are just my findings:

It seems like they stopped making a lot of the actually large hard pads since most people use soft.

Unlike a controller, where you were require to turn your sensitivity way up in order to turn around in a reasonable amount of time, you want to turn your mouse sensitivity way down for precise aiming. If you need to spin around quickly at lower sensitivity, you have the ability to swing your arm across your desk to do so.

Also, buy a good mousepad which is large enough for you to do that. I use a Razer Goliathus Speed Edition. It is pretty inexpensive and works great.

All three of those mousepads get used by professional Overwatch players.

I personally use an older design of the Goliathus with the same tracking surface but a different cosmetic pattern. Some of the new Razer graphics look like the Hulk jizzed on a roofing shingle and they may clash with your gear or sense of taste. They also make a "Control" edition with more texture, but I find it rough and distracting if my wrist touches it and it slows down my mouse slightly without really increasing my accuracy.

I have never used a SteelSeries mousepad, but they are known for good products. I own a keyboard made by them and it is great.

I have never heard of Zowie before checking what gear Overwatch Pros use, but I am interested in how basic it is while presumably having good enough quality for professional gaming. I really enjoy the understated look.

You can start with a SteelSeries QcK+, or QcK Heavy, depending on if you want the pad to be thicker. Personally I don't like these because they're pretty rough and give me friction burns on my wrist, so if you're worried about that happening to you there's other options like Glorious XL, Razer Gigantus, Zowie G-SR, HyperX Fury S (this one is also rough for me but not as bad as QcK), and there's many more but that's a few off the top of my head. Some are a bit pricey though. If you really want some good info and help from more people, make a post on /r/mousereview saying what games you play and what kind of features, if any, you're looking for. They help me out with mouse related stuff all the time, and I'm also pretty active there too haha.

More than likely the QcK+ will be plenty for you as long as it isn't too rough for you. Seems to be an uncommon problem, but I have talked to other people with the issue. Just try to find a pad that's at least 40cm (400mm) or 16in or so wide, that's the most important thing. Some people swear by the Allsop Raindrop XL even though it's a bit on the small side for me. If you're around 900-1000 eDPI you should be fine with this one, I like it a lot, just wish it had a couple more inches in each dimension.

I have this mousepad (the CompLexity team version) coming in tomorrow if you want to wait and see if I recommend it.

I've tried the Hayate Otsu, and I can't recommend it. It may be an isolated issue, but when I tried it out for a week, it had a critical problem with static electricity. Yeah, I do mean that.. it is strange to describe as I've never expected this to be a problem either.
Whenever mice had contact with it and after moving the mouse on it for a minute, the friction built up tons of charge which shocked everything I touched, including my headphones. This was so bad I had to get rid of it. Otherwise, the size was too small. I did like their package where they ship it flat without bending it. In my opinion it was definitely not worth the price premium and hassle of finding it.

I now currently own the Zowie G-SR, which seems just about as perfect as I would want a mouse pad to be. Everything from the thickness, rubber pads, even surface, edge finishes, and no annoying giant logo.

My favorite before this mousepad was the Steelseries Qck Heavy, but this Zowie one just beats it out by perfecting it.

I switched from console for better framerate since I didn't care about "next-gen" 4k graphics at 30fps. I quit controller cold turkey and never looked back. Unfortunately, there is a high barrier to entry so I like to help people switch and have a good experience instead of pure frustration and end up reverting back to using a controller.

1. After you've decided on your keybinds, watch a video on build techniques and practice the ones you want a few times each day. Then there are discords that host FFA game modes in creative to practice fighting others without having to queue, loot and farm, die, repeat. I actually think the latest storm wars maps are close to realistic and more fun than Champs arena games, so it's the only thing I've played outside of WC competitions lately. Kovaak's is a popular "game" on steam used to train your aim specifically.
   
   
2. I think you're right, blindly copying 1 person is not be the best strategy. But, changing muscle memory is hard and pyramid is considered one of the best builds in the current meta imo, so you should try to get used to using all 4 or it might become harder later. I use Q(wall), E(ramp), C(floor), V(roof) for my builds using my thumb C and V (this was hard to get used to but worth it imo). Consider turning on sprint by default and using left shit for edit. CTRL is crouch and R is reload in every single game I play. I also recommend getting a big mouse pad and setting your sensitivity low if you want to get truly good aim.
   
   This keybinding philosophy guide is pretty decent at describing the reasoning behind choosing certain keybinds over others.
   
   I also highly recommend using these scroll wheel keybinds many of which could definitely be considered unfair advantage.
   
   
3. This is a good segue into my final piece of advice. Unfortunately if you haven't noticed, Epic Games does not seem to care what happens to the "competitive" scene of Fortnite and they definitely don't care about optimizing the game for PC... So I doubt any of those features are coming anytime soon. I recommend also getting into another game like CSGO, Apex Legends, or Halo on PC when it launches to help practice general mnk mechanics as well. Public Fortnite matches will likely just frustrate you until you've built up some muscle memory (estimated 2-4 weeks to get back to your level on controller if you practice daily).

The answer to this will not be the same for everyone. Ergonomics of each mouse will feel different for each person due to differing hand sizes, grip, etc. Personally I used to favor big mice with lots of buttons for RPGs and Mobas… such as a Naga and then a Logitech G502. But then I started getting into FPS games and wound up wanting something lighter/smaller and never looked back (currently use a Logitech G-Pro). I still use this for RPGs just fine.. the two buttons on the side plus mousewheel button are more than sufficient for me as those 3 buttons alone can account for 12 binds when you consider ctrl, shift, and alt modifiers should you choose to use them... then you have scroll up/down and modifiers for those as well, to me anything more than that is overkill since you can realistically fit all binds on a keyboard anyhow.

I currently have a large desk-size mousepad Glorious 3XL , but the mousepad I used when I played CS a lot with my ZA I just had a normal Zowie GS-R (Linked here ) Both work great, I'm sure you don't need a large 3XL that I use. A mousepad is also obviously just preference.
