> Does anyone have a roomba/robot vacuum?

I have a BobSweep Standard. Yes, I would highly recommend it and it works on our ceramic tile as well as carpet and rugs that don't have tassels (no tassels!!). I program it to run at 11pm nightly (kind of my bedtime alarm), and the way our house is designed it goes through our huge living room and the kitchen and dining room (chairs upside down on table out of the way). It gets all the crumbs and junk. It runs for about an hour. recently, more than a year after I got it, I had to replace his battery and main brush because the battery wasn't holding an hour's worth of charge anymore but he's all good now. Check woot.com periodically for robot vacuums or mops on great discounted sales. I got it for like $160 or something on woot.com a year and a half or so ago? He has a mop pad thing but if it's wet enough to clean, he gets stuck in wet spots and spins his wheels so I only use it as a dry dustmop if at all. I found it to be more trouble than it was worth on the tile. It might be ok on hardwood.

> Is there such a thing as a robot mop? Would it be worth it?

Yes there are robot mops, but only some are worth it. I am saving money for one that's actually good, about $500 and has the functions that I want. I want one that actually sprays water in front and cleans the floor, then squeegees it up. Not a wet mop pad because those clean nothing on tile. I don't know if that would be good for you with hardwood though, I would probably just mop normally with hardwood unless it was laminate. This one is the one I am saving for.

Dishwashers are great but I do find that I put off washing items that are not dishwasher safe which leaves a few dirty dishes in the sink a long time. You said this is for an apparent, Normally a dishwasher requires cabinets that can accept them and minor plumbing & electrical. can you work that out with your landlord? Countertop dishwashers seemed like a joke to me but maybe their worth getting...

My dog doesn’t like my Samsung robot vacuum so it’s only used when I Remember to turn it on before walks and that isn’t often. When I was shopping the Samsung’s were way more powerful and it does great with pet hair. You will still need a proper vacuum of some sort. Your money is probably better spent on a high end vacuum than a roomba, I highly recommend a Dyson, my very old dyson has been great it is unbelievable how much better it is at picking up pet hair than the cheap dirt devil I had before it.
Previous generation and refurbished robot vacuums and dysons can frequently be found online for major savings. I did a super quick search and found:

I know this isn't what you're asking about exactly but I got myself an off-brand Roomba (The Ilife) and a steam mop and it has changed my life forever. The Ilife keeps up with the cleaning in my 1200 sqft apt extremely well even with my dog and the porch door left open for extended amounts of time. I've had the ILife for about 6 months and it's still running strong. Hasn't broke with me accidentally stepping on it, my 50lb bulldog trying to lay on it, and the dining room chair falling on it.

They also make bots that have a mopping attachment that's pretty cool, I've never tried it though. If you want to feel extra clean an air purifier will help quite a bit. It'll help keep dust down. That's my next big purchase.

u/atistang · 1 pointr/roomba

Not sure about that model, but I do have a V5S from the same manufacturer and it has been great. I run it atleast 4 times a week and I have had it about 3 months, it's running like a champ. The only issue it has is for some reason if it gets close to the base it's almost like the base acts as an invisible wall.

Here is the link for what I have, they make a V7S that is better for longer carpets, the V5S is better for short carpets and hard floors.

I just bought the iRobot i7+ about a month ago and now it's $150 off. It's the best robot vacuum I've had thus far and it meets your criteria. You can tell it to clean specific rooms using the app or Alexa/Google after it maps out your house. The mapping process takes about 3-5 runs. It also empties itself. It's honestly the first robot vacuum I've had that is truly set it and forget it. All the others I've owned have needed quite a bit of maintenance. This one just goes on a schedule I set and I don't even think about it anymore. It's pretty amazing.

I have the Neato Botvac D80...

My house is 2 levels too, we have a living area that is lower than the rest of the house and high pile carpet (thick/long) and tile floors.

Highlights:

  • Easy to move it to whichever level we want to clean, works like a charm.
  • No app involved, maps out a room on its own and cleans inside the edges it figures out
  • Has cliff/edge detection. It hasn't fallen into the living area from the other level once.
  • It is pet rated, we have a goldendoodle which doesn't shed a ton but still has hair that can fall off in chunks. Picks it up no problem.
  • It can spot clean, place it wherever you want and hit a button on the top, will move around and clean in a nice, small area.
  • Easy to change plastic bin which collects what it picks up. We have a new baby and I haven't seen it NOT pick up anything she drops when eating.
  • My only beef is it makes a bit of noise so you know its running, but its still more quiet than a regular vacuum so is that really a problem?
  • Last but not least, if you have a large level to clean, like a few rooms at a time, it will stop mid-clean if the battery is getting low and return to the station to recharge. Once it gets enough battery, it will go to where it left off and finish the job.
u/bal00 · 15 pointsr/aldi

Aldi's is this one, which looks identical to this Kobot, which seems to be a RV-351. Most other places seem to be selling it for $150, and you can find a few reviews online (Home Depot, Best Buy).

As a bit of a robot vacuum enthusiast(I know), I don't like the fact that it doesn't have front distance sensors, just a bumper. The ones with distance sensors (you can tell because they have a translucent black strip at the front) will slow down to a crawl before they hit walls or furniture. The ones with just a bumper will just go their normal speed until they bump into something.

That also means the travel speed of them has to be kept lower. One with distance distance sensors may travel at say 1 yard per second when everything is clear and slow down to 0.2 yards per second before it hits an obstacle, while one with just a bumper would always do 0.5 yards per second. So they cover less area and are a bit harder on the furniture, though the Kobot one has a rubber strip on the bumper, so it shouldn't leave marks.

If you can swing it, I would look at the iLife A4s instead. They go for about $150-160 on Chinese sites like gearbest or $200 on amazon, and they're really impressive for the money. Quiet, very good build quality and they don't get stuck easily.

u/tomgabriele · 1 pointr/homeautomation

I have the Robovac 11 and it cleans well enough, but it's the version before they added wifi. I have one that's within range of my harmony hub, so I can control it via IR from there, but it's otherwise not connected at all. They have the Robovac 11c now, which seems to be the same hardware with added wifi support, so that might be a good option.

u/renational · 1 pointr/roomba

wow, $100 for $1 worth of intelligence, what a rip off.

anyway, thanks for the feedback. i suppose i could get into the habit of simply pressing the top button after i rake the cat's litterbox and leave the room.

so assuming i don't want to pay for scheduling, just a small basic self charging unit that i do not have to empty till it's nearly full of litter, let's say a cup or two - what models or generation should i seek out or avoid while trolling through the craigslist ads.

reviewers seem to like the +3yr old Roomba 560, and a few have shown up on craigslist for $100-$200. but my needs are so modest, can't i go back to even older models just to clean up a closet size room?

what about buying a roomba wannabe?

u/KarmaAndLies · 1 pointr/PrimeDay2016

I also want to mention the "Neato Robotics Botvac D Series D75 Robot Vacuum Cleaner" is $299.

The D75 is identical to the D80, just has different accessories (different roller and number of filters, all of which you can buy after). D85 is an actual upgrade however.

I am not trying to turn this into a Neato Vs. Roomba thing, I am just pointing out that the $250 price isn't that out of the ordinary right now for Robotic Vacuums.

I'll just say, I own both, the Roomba cleans better and is shorter (thus able to get under some furniture), but the Roomba gets lost a lot due to bad navigation. It is good for single rooms and small spaces.

The Neato is legitimately able to clean entire floors of homes, and able to pick up where it left off and quickly navigate back to its base station (much faster than the Roomba which uses a "lighthouse"-style technique).

Likely the "ultimate" device is Roomba's new 900 series. The 900 series uses the same navigation system as Neato's Botvac D range but also keeps their high quality cleaning system, brushes, and height.

Even Roomba themselves implicitly admit that the pre-900 series Roombas sucks at multi-room/large spaces in their adverts for the 980 with their "throughout your entire home" tagline/differentiation (implying others weren't entire home, which I'd call accurate).

The reason you or I won't buy the 980 is the steep $899.99 price tag. So in the interim at the sub-$300 price point you have to pick between better cleaning (Roomba) but dumb navigation, or smart navigation but mediocre cleaning (D75).

There's no correct answer, depends how your home is laid out. But frankly you could buy both and still save money on the 980's bonkers $899.99 price tag.

u/sevargmas · 6 pointsr/homeowners

I don’t have a Roomba but something similar. We bought this which is a company owned by Anker: eufy [BoostIQ] RoboVac 30C, Wi-Fi, Upgraded, Super-Thin, 1500Pa Strong Suction, 13 ft Boundary Strips Included, Quiet, Self-Charging Robotic Vacuum Cleaner, Cleans Hard Floors to
Medium-Pile Carpets https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D75MVX9/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_CEu8CbJTQ86BC

It works really well but you absolutely have to empty the bin each time it runs and clean the brush about every other time.

u/Apocrathia · 1 pointr/VacuumCleaners

Not quite in your price range, but a refurbished Roomba 650 is $299. I have 2 of these units, and have had them for about 6 years now. While they're not foolproof or a replacement for a traditional vacuum, they do a great job at keeping the floors clean if you run them every day. They do require the same maintenance and cleaning that a traditional vacuum would, but instead of having to vacuum once a week, I do it once a month.

u/lmAtWork · 2 pointsr/funny

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00D5EID84/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

That is the model I have, but it's an older model now, so it's in that weird stage of life where the price is higher for it now than it used to be. It's a great model, but the newer ones are probably better bang for your buck, or if you want that model I'd set a price watch on it and snag it when it gets under $300 again. My price checker says it was $100 for a third party new one at one point which would be a steal

u/bdog2g2 · 3 pointsr/funny

Yup.

This one http://www.amazon.com/iRobot-Scooba-Floor-Washing-Robot/dp/B007EDJZL6

However I DID NOT pay that price. Woot had a refurbished one for like 250 or so a while back. It takes a bit of practice, but on tile I found if you use about 3-4 oz of white vinegar in the tank, it'll clean damned good. The amount they tell you IMHO is too low and doesn't allow for a decent clean.

If fur collecting on furniture is the major problem, I'd start with a hand-held vacuum, lint roller, or something like the Fur-Zoff.

I caved and bought both a robotic vacuum (a knock-off Roomba that works great) and the Fur-Zoff. The robot gets the fur off the floor and a couple of times a week I run the Fur-Zoff over the couch, couch cushions, and pretty much anything else made of fabric that might collect fur. It's kind of awesome to watch how it collects hair that I can't even see (e.g., black fur on a gray couch). So far, so good!

u/xboarder · 1 pointr/gadgets

My Neato XV-11 robotic vacuum, because I haven't had to vacuum in a year and a half. My SO is pretty happy about that too! There are newer models out now, but this one certainly gets the job done.

What do you think about Miele's new robotic vacuum? I've had a Neato for a couple of years and I like it a lot although it certainly can't replace a normal vacuum entirely.

I've had a Neato and it's been going strong for over 2 years I normally run it 2-4x a week when I go out. I chose it over a roomba because roombas sweep where as the neato is an actual vacuum. i didn't buy a brand-name roomba - i bought an "ILIFE" brand wet-dry. It has been quieter and just as good as the roomba i previously owned. it was MUCH more affordable than what you are considering, even after the primeday discount. Just something to consider. this is the model I bought.

Robotic vaccuums. The one I have right now doesn't have a bristled brush, so it's easy to cut the hair out. I recommend it to everyone I meet.
