Midnight outside the r/fantasy literary bistro. The lone busker is having no luck with slow Paul Simon/Dan Fogelberg medleys. He stands, clears throat, strikes a proud B# and begins something fast and loud.

It's been one week since you looked at me
Cocked your head to the side
and said “Well maybe.”
Five days since you laughed at me saying
“I get you’re funny but kinda literary.”
Three days since the mods stepped in,
I realized it's all my fault, but can’t send a DM.
Yesterday you unblocked me,
But it'll still be two days till you buy my fantasy.

Click it now and watch the kindle blink,
As I make the reader stop, think.
You'll think you're reading about Aragorn.
I’ll summon Gollum with a fish,
All the Nazgul if you wish
I can’t be sued for this
Cause the trope’s already over-worn.

Hot like Tolkien when I bust rhymes
Big like George Martin, I’m, I’m…
Because I'm all about value!
Neil Gaiman's got the fab hits
I’ve got self published crits.
Obscurity tries to hold me but I bust through.

Gonna give my hero a day in the park,
I don’t like it too gross or grim or dark.
I like Zelazny, Corwin hasn’t got an equal.
You gotta give me one look,
Cause when you buy just one book,
I’ll have you on the Elmo hook.
“Quest” it's so adventurous
You'll have to buy the sequel.

How can I help it if I think I’m funny when I’m deep?
Trying hard not to self-promote ‘cause I feel cheap.
I'm the kind of guy who laughs at a mirror
Can't understand what I mean?
Well, I’ll make it clearer.
I have a tendency to put my thoughts in my works.
I have a history of not selling my books.

It's been one week since you looked at me
DM’d the mods and said “he’s crazy”.
Five days since you three-starred me
I've still got the teary emoji on my FB feed.
It's been three days since the SFPBO.
You realized its parody not a put on.
Yesterday you reconsidered me.
And now I sit back and wait till you click on [
Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/St-Elmo-Raymond/e/B01N3ABAIO?ref=sr_ntt_srch_lnk_1&qid=1564448077&sr=8-1.)

Smaug, Orm and Drogon: always have a dragon.
One rain of fire and your brain stops draggin’.
Reading Shirley Jackson, at midnight,
Under blanket with a flashlight.
I hope the ghosts are real in this one.

Like Fiver and Ged I'm getting mystic
Like Patchface I’m a bit eccentric.
But my plots always satisfy.
Like Butcher I like a paladin.
Okay I know I’m not him,
But if I were they'd have a good guy.

Gonna get a set of better covers,
Maybe the kind with undead lovers.
Just so my books aren't always shelved with the lit fics.
Gotta get that look of red swords and dark cloaks
Cause my covers now have folks in weird kilts
That make you think the wrong thing.

How can I help it if I think I’m funny when I’m deep
Trying hard to self-promote though I feel cheap.
I'm the kind of guy who laughs at a reddit
Can you give Quest a chance?
You won’t regret it.
I have a tendency to put my mind in my books.
I have a history of getting strange looks.

It's been one week since you messaged me
Read a review and asked is it KU?
Five days since I down-voted you and said
You just asked what I thought you were gonna do.
Three days since the mods stepped in.
We realized we're both to blame, but what could we do?
Yesterday you just up-voted me
Cause it’s been days since you said you’d try me.

There are still lots of ways for you to try me.
Best way today is just go and buy me.

Quest of the Five Clans, by Raymond St. Elmo

u/bookwench · 2 pointsr/booksuggestions

Well, I'm almost 40, and I trade books with my 60+ neighbor.

If you're sticking with romance, Eloisa James is a good romance author; Courtney Milan is also amazing.

For science fiction and fantasy with a dose of romance - Lois Bujold's Vorkosigan series (start here) is very very very good, and her Chalion series (here) is excellent for the first two books (you can easily skip the third book, it's a prequel and not as interesting all around.)Bujold tends to be very, very popular with women, and older women; she's a very sharp and insightful person who happens to write big, fun space operas.

I strongly recommend Elizabeth Moon's Remnant Population; it has no romance but features an older woman, adn is very very thoughtfully done. Her The Speed of Dark is more challenging but still excellent work. Karen Lord's The Best of All Possible Worlds is also utterly amazing.

For nonfiction, try Bill Bryson. I recommend A Walk In The Woods.

ANSI Standard Fantasy

Check out The First Law by Joe Abercrombie:

  • The Blade Itself
  • Before They Are Hanged
  • Last Argument of Kings

    ---

If you want to read about badass thieves, check out Scott Lynch's Gentleman Bastards:

  • The Lies of Locke Lamora
  • Red Seas Under Red Skies
  • The Republic of Thieves

    ---

Speaking of thieves, Michael J. Sullivan's Riyria Chronicles is good clean fun in the tradition of Fritz Leiber's classic stories of Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser (which you should also read).

    ---

You might also like Forging Divinity and Stealing Sorcery by Andrew Rowe (/u/Salaris). People will recommend Brandon Sanderson, but I think Rowe does Sandersonian fantasy better than Sanderson himself. (And I got four words for anybody who thinks that's blasphemy: "Come at me, bro.")

    ---

People will also recommend Patrick Rothfuss' Kingkiller Chronicles:

  • The Name of the Wind
  • The Wise Man's Fear
  • The Slow Regard of Silent Things (novella/side story)

My opinion is that you should read him for his prose, and treat his protagonist as an unreliable narrator.

    Science Fantasy

All of the above is medieval or Renaissance fantasy, and most of the recommendations you'll get are for medieval/Renaissance fantasy, but my own preference is for science fantasy. I write it, and so I try to read as much of it as I can as well.

I don't think you can go wrong with Michael Moorcock. He's very prolific, but much of his early work is in novellas that are now published as compilations. He's one of the first big "multiverse" writers, and many of his stories involve an eternal conflict between Law and Chaos, as well as an Eternal Champion who serves the cosmic balance by opposing whichever force is dominant on his world. The Eternal Champion has had many incarnations, but only one (Erekose) remembers the others: Elric, Corum, Dorian Hawkmoon, Jerry Cornelius, Oswald Bastable, etc. I started with the Hawkmoon books, but Moorcock's probably best known for Elric.

    ---

If you haven't read Frank Herbert's Dune, I strongly suggest doing so. It's a labyrinthine novel normally marketed as science fiction, but it reads like fantasy. You've probably heard of it.

    ---

Chances are you haven't heard of Roger Zelazny, which is a shame. His Amber novels, starting with Nine Princes in Amber, are excellent reads, though many will argue that the novels starring Corwin are better than those featuring his son Merlin.

    ---

There are also various "dying earth" writers and series, starting with Jack Vance and his Dying Earth novels:

  • The Dying Earth
  • The Eyes of the Overworld
  • Cugel's Saga
  • Rhialto the Marvellous

These novels are set in a far-future earth where magic and science are indistinguishable from one another and spellcasters fire off magicks as if they were D&D wizards (mainly because Gary Gygax borrowed from Vance).

    ---

Another dying earth series you'll see mentioned is Gene Wolfe's Book of the New Sun. It's excellent, but the prose is so dense and complex that when people complain to me that my books aren't easy reading, I tell them, "You think I'm tough? Go read Gene Wolfe."

New Sun's protagonist, Severian the journeyman torturer, is one of fantasy's classic unreliable narrators.

    ---

And then there's M. John Harrison's Viriconium novels, an odd series. The prose is gorgeous, but the first in the series, The Pastel City, is the only one of the bunch that actually reads like fantasy. The sequel, A Storm of Wings, picks up where The Pastel City left off but gets profoundly weird, and subsequent novels leave fantasy behind altogether.

    ---

Getting back to science fantasy for people who aren't as pretentious as I am, I'd be remiss if I didn't recommend Celia S. Friedman's Coldfire Trilogy.

  • Black Sun Rising
  • When True Night Falls
  • Crown of Shadows

    Further details here.

    ---

But one of my favorites is C. J. Cherryh's Morgaine Saga

  • Gate of Ivrel
  • Well of Shiuan
  • Fires of Azeroth
  • Exile's Gate

Morgaine is the last of a team of scientists sent to close the space-time gates the qhal refurbished and abused to the point of causing the complete collapse of the space-time continuum. Armed primarily with her sword Changeling, which is itself a gate, Morgaine closes each gate behind her and destroys it.

But it isn't Morgaine's viewpoint we get, but that of Vanye, an outcast warrior who finds himself bound to Morgaine's service because he was desperate enough to ask shelter of her at any price. Vanye doesn't have the education to understand the technological tools Morgaine uses as anything but witchcraft, but his honor drives him to fight beside her despite his fear.

    ---

If you like cowboys, you don't have to settle for Stephen King's The Dark Tower and what I like to call the "new game plus" ending. You could also read S. A. Hunt's (/u/authorsahunt) The Outlaw King:

  • The Whirlwind in the Thorn Tree
  • Law of the Wolf
  • Ten Thousand Devils

The series is ongoing, but these three books alone will keep you busy for a while.

    ---

Finally, I'm going to recommend my own work (assuming you've read this far). My Starbreaker series is near-future science fantasy set in an alternate history and inspired by classic heavy metal (Judas Priest, Queensryche, Iron Maiden, Blue Oyster Cult, etc). I write about all-too-human androids and swashbuckling sopranos exposing corruption and fighting demons from outer space. I write about a dark lord who wears white who already rules the world and is trying to save it. I've got friendly AIs, transoceanic maglevs, questions of whether the end justifies the means, and a great big Maine Coon cat who can play Texas Hold 'Em, but can't bluff worth a damn.

Starbreaker started out as a big-ass novel, but is now a series:

  • Without Bloodshed
  • Silent Clarion (prequel set 17 years before Without Bloodshed. originally a web serial)
  • Blackened Phoenix (sequel, currently in progress)

If you've read this far, thanks. I don't usually post at such length on Reddit.

A copy/paste of one of my posts from January:

There are several books about BDSM and its culture. Also female sexuality is often shunted for male, and both genders get a ton of misinformation in the judgmental world. The clit is a lot more than a nub and the proper term is vulva. I’ll post a few links of my favorite reading material and a bit about why I enjoyed them. The New Topping a New Bottoming Books a good overview of how to set up, the different types, and responsibilities of each person in a scene and explores the emotional side of it. https://www.amazon.com/New-Topping-Book-Dossie-Easton/dp/B001TJV5DW

Playing Well With Others. Examines the entire kink culture and how and why people can safely get involved. All the different symbols, types of D/s way more definitions then I could say here, the difference between a kink club, sex club, fetish night, leather bar etc. is all here. The back has a great long overview of many possible kinks and a chart for you to map out your experience and limit levels with each one. Also has a glossary of more books.

Also I’m new to relationships in general but to really learn how to make a woman feel good you might want to look into She Comes First. As you'll see from reviews even couples who've been together a long time really got 'energized' by the book. Also good at dispelling many myths around female sexuality that both men and women might think. It’s written by a guy but very focused on female-centric pleasure, right up a subby guy’s alley. It’s really helped me and I’m only halfway through since I got it 2 days ago!

Darling Discovered. A submissive woman’s journey from a vanilla relationship transitioned to D/s. I really identified with her for much of the book. The other recommendations are mostly objective but you really go into Mrs. Darling’s heart, it’s a true story so none of the trite clichés made by authors who know nothing of the culture. It may also give insight to those already in relationships considering BDSM, something I don’t have experience in. Her prologue that you can view with Look Inside certainly grabs the attention of the reader! https://www.amazon.com/Darling-Discovered-True-Story-Submission/dp/0997421916

I have a few newer reviews if you want?

What are you interests? [Meetups] (http://www.meetup.com/), are a good way to start making friends.

Getting a girlfriend isn't as hard as it seems. It really boils down to your confidence level, but it's also a numbers game. (ie; the more girls you talk to, the higher your chances are) Check out /r/seduction and read the sidebar and top posts. Also, read [Models by Mark Manson] (http://markmanson.net/books/models) and [the Sex God Method] (http://www.amazon.com/Sex-God-Method-2nd-Edition/dp/0557036488). Another book is [Unshakable Swagger] (http://www.unshakableswagger.com/), I just bought it, but I haven't read it yet. I heard good things though.

Also read [Practicing the Power of Now] (http://www.amazon.com/Practicing-Power-Now-Essential-Meditations/dp/1577311957). It's a book on mediation and it'll help you relax and be at ease. Ted talks, [RSDJulien] (https://www.youtube.com/user/RSDJulien), and [RSDTyler] (https://www.youtube.com/user/RSDTyler) are amazing sources for motivation and other self improvemnt and development.

That's pretty much it OP, have fun and get to work! PM me if you have questions.

TL;DR: You aren't finished yet, unless you decide to give up.

I'm 38, so you might think I'm being presumptuous by offering my perspective, but I've sipped from the bitter cup before you now. Maybe my story will help you.

I started writing when I was 18, and spent 13 years working on my first novel. I also work as a software developer, and I've been married for twelve years.

When I finally finished Starbreaker in 2009 I thought I was done. Here was a complete 289,000 word heavy metal/science fantasy epic, the story I had set out to tell that explored what it meant to be human and how people find ways to let the end justify the means, and it was a piece of shit.

Like you, I got depressed. Not as badly as you, but I ended up rage-quitting my job and spending about four months unemployed and living off savings.

I got another job, and just let the book rest for a while, but in 2011 I realized that I wasn't done yet. I had tried to tell the entire story in one monstrous novel, and in the process shortchanged my story and my characters.

At first I tried rewriting the novel, but I figured out that I could mine my first novel for material I could use to write better, more tightly focused novels. It took me two years to write my second novel, and I published it through a small press in 2013.

I published another novel this past October, but that took longer because I was learning to write from a first-person viewpoint, and because this story was new even to me. Now I'm in another creatively fallow period, but I'm OK with that now because I know that while I'll make a few false starts, I will write my next novel.

But first, I need to fill the well and fertilize the field. So do you. You poured yourself into a work that you feel is complete, and you feel like you've got nothing left. That isn't true. You might be empty now, but you can make yourself whole.

Get up, spend time with people, enjoy other people's art without comparing yourself to them, and start gathering material. Just hoover up as much art and experience as you can, let your subconscious chew on it, and ask yourself questions. You'll find one that only another novel can answer.

u/RoEdhel · 3 pointsr/TheBluePill

OH MAN, THIS IS THE MOST GIRLY THING I DO. And right now my project is reading the free Kindle book section on Amazon. It looks like these aren't all free anymore. I scope pretty frequently, so I guess I'm getting good enough that I'm getting a silly amount of free books:

The Governess Affair - Courtney Milan: Our romantic hero has a tough past, but is actually easy to relate to because he is someone stuck in a difficult position: what he wants and what is right. He has lots of macho man trappings, but is ultimately a decent person who takes the time to change his perspective. I think part of the idea is that he's a damn shade tougher than the "alpha" types in the story, but ridiculed by them. Historical romance.

Come Dancing - Leslie Wells: I assume the title is for this song, which sucked me in to reading it (though I prefer the MB20 version). The romantic hero is a rock star and the book actually takes time to show hard massively fucking difficult that makes him to date. And he struggles with it too, because he does like the romantic heroine, who ain't got time for his bullshit. They both struggle with what they want from each other, their boundaries and their work. Because the heroine has a real ass job and spends a lot of the book chasing a promotion. It's a total beach read, but I loved it. Set in the early 1980s.

Flirts! 5 Romantic Short Stories - Lisa Scott: This isn't my normal cup of tea, I usually prefer fantasy or historical or paranormal just ease the all of the unlikely things that happen along, but these were short and cute, and the boys in them occasionally made me go "aaaaaw." It's saccharine for the sake of being saccharine. The first story is probably the one I like the most. Contemporary.

Skies of Gold - Zoe Archer: First rate sex in this girl's "Skies of" books. All of the heroines are kick ass engineers or spies or lady Indiana Jones-es and completely hold their own. And the romantic heroes respect the hell out of these women in a way that is just...well, it really helps the sex scenes feel mutual and hot. This one is probably the best, if the most simple. She has lost her leg and is having difficult accepting her body, he is a military science project who has also have trouble accepting his body and who he now is. Both are lonely, both have cut themselves off from the world, both help the other heal. Steampunk as fuck.

If you want more, I can do more.

This is me.

There's a lot to me, a lot of good and a lot of bad. I come from a bad past but I've turned my lemons into lemonade and I've made the best from it. :) I love to laugh, have a good time, love the beach, traveling, and helping others. I'm crazy about my friends, my boyfriend, books, tattoos, and makeup. I'm a makeup artist and I loveeee doing all kinds of makeup. :D

Adrian Tarn Series is definitely one of my favorites and isn't very well known. Definitely check this series out.

Odyssey One Series is pretty good.

Confluence Series is interesting.

Aurora Rhapsody Series is a good series too.

Dark Space Series is pretty decent as well.

The Frozen Sky Series is certainly entertaining too.

These are a few series I've read recently and enjoyed. Figured they would be good suggestions. They also aren't the most commonly suggested or well known books like the others that were suggested.

Although the other recommendations are definitely ones you want to read. Especially the Ender's Game sequels and the Old Man's War series.

Ok let's talk Spirit Caller. Why didn't this series sell?

Spirits Rising came out in Jan 2012. It's a 23,000 word novella. This was before Select, Prime lending, and KU. There was no market for novellas in fantasy.

The series isn't a romance, so I didn't want to promote it as one. I have a distinct style for them, inspired by the Fever series cover (the old ones).

Spirits Rising didn't make back my money. I wrote Dark Whispers. It didn't make back my money. I was in the hole by a grand at that stage. If I had my time back, I would have gotten 1 cover, different colours, numbers and the titles on it, as opposed to individuals covers at $200 USD a pop. I love those covers, but...I love eating, too.

Kobo opened up to direct selfpublishing and I went with them, as opposed to using Smashwords. The series did significantly better on Kobo and the series finally broke even. I made Spirits Rising free, in hopes of bringing readers to the series. That failed on Amazon. Wow. Just...wow. It didn't fail on Kobo. I made enough money to pay for Knight Shift.

By this stage, I'm putting one out a year. I realized this was bad business for a novella serial, but it wasn't making any money. Grief started making me a bunch of money; I needed to finish Fury to capitalize on that! First Wrong Impressions was winding down at this stage, but it was still making me $100-200ish a month.

I wrote Mystery Night knowing it would take a year to break even. Then I put it aside, because I had to get everything else done.

I decided to wrap up the series at 6 books like I'd planned. I decided to combine what was going to be a surprise novella into Book 6, and move Book 6 into Book 5 (Dead Living). Dead Living is what I'm working on now.

I decided to repackage the entire series as paranormal romance because, and let's be super fucking open here, people weren't buying the series as urban fantasy. I had resisted the romance label for a long time because I was afraid it would end up labeling me or pigeon holing me, and reduce my readership potential further. But somewhere along the way, I just said fuck this fucking shit, I have a Jeep to pay for.

So the slow rebrand as HEA-ending, PNR reader safe began. I was asked to open the box set for Spells and Spirits, with Charles de Lint. Then Janny Wurts posted here for everyone to go read it. Then, de Lint reviewed the first 3 books in Fantasy and Science Fiction magazine. Then all of a sudden, people were freaking picking up the series in all different ways possible.

And I'm so confused. I'd given up completely on the series. I was writing it for the love by the end, and as a "thanks" to the few readers the series had who were crazy loyal, even though I could only put one out a year (because they were such losses).

I open my sales report and I'm just staring at it. I can tell which readers came from the box set (because they pick up #3 in the series). But what about all of these Books 1-3 bundle sales? Where are they coming from? What about all of the Book 2 sales? (so clearly they are reading Book 1 for free). How did this happen?

I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that I'd said good bye to this series ever earning me money. I'd made peace with it. I'd decided I was going to keep my promise to my readers and give me 6 books. And now...I got nothing.

Book selling is basically magic. It makes no fucking sense sometimes.

u/HeyFlo · 3 pointsr/blogsnark

I'm doing this thing where I'm reading multiple books at the same time. They're all re-reads, because a lot of my recent books have been Meh. So I'm re-reading x4:

The Penal Colony by Richard Herley. Prisoners sent to an island colony and have to survive on their own wits. They actually made a film based on the book starring Ray Liotta. It's a really good book, but a bit dated sometimes.

A Long Way Home to a Small Angry Planet by Becky Chambers I love this book so much. It's a ScI fi book that is actually about interacting with each other. It's just soooo good. It has an alien love story, which sounds weird, but it plays out so realistically that you won't even care. Great characters and exciting storyline.

Fortune's Rock by Anita Shreve. Ugh, this book? I love it so much. Her writing is up and down but this book is so complex and amazing.

And of course, I have to recommend the best series ever. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Until-End-World-Book-ebook/dp/B00DX73ZPY

You are changing the course of your ship. So I'd say "Steady as she goes, Cap'n."

I have a 6 year old daughter. She and I differ on opinion on many things. She thinks that potato chips make a great healthy meal. I do not. We don't "fight" over this topic. I make dinner and we both eat it. She can voice her preferences for a bowl of sugar with a cherry on top, but we are having chicken with rice instead. My daughter respects me and accepts what I decide.

Fighting with my daughter, even if I win, hurts my position of respect. If a fight is inevitable and unavoidable, then I face it full on and I make damn sure I win, but I don't go seeking out the fight.

From your description it sounds like you are honestly on the path to a life of happiness. You're not there yet, since sex isn't plentiful yet, but you're moving in the right direction.

Hey! Welcome! There's a great journal out there called Where I Am Led that helps guide submissives on their path.

I've also written a book about my transition from a vanilla, egalitarian marriage to one of kink and power exchange. You can check the reviews on Amazon and if you/she would like a free author's ebook copy I'm happy as always to send one. Paperback is available there too if she'd prefer. Shoot me a DM with your preferred email and I'll get you an electronic copy if you would like.

Wow, I just read "Entreat Me," as well. Since we seem to have similar tastes, have you tried any Laura Kinsale?

Also, as many people were recommending Courtey Milan, I tried out a free prequel of hers last night and loved it:

The Governess Affair

Took me about two hours to read, it's free, and now I'm looking forward to her novels :)

Definitely check out Without Bloodshed by Matthew Graybosch (/u/asuraemulator).

It has excellent characters (and an ensemble cast), beautiful prose, and some awesome technology. If you like the idea of characters with both swords and rail guns, I'd recommend it.

I'd say get in at least a few young adult fiction, as they're full of saccharine and angst ridden metaphor:

The Perks Of Being A Wallflower

Looking For Alaska

A few historical fictions:

Wolf Hall

Memoirs Of A Geisha

Comedy:

The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy

Good Omens

Stephen king (just because he's a favorite)

11/22/63

IT

And finally, some objectively "bad" books, to learn what not to do.

Wild Animus: A Novel

The Da Vinci Code

Moon People

All of these books are personal favorites for one reason or another, and some may fit into multiple categories (see: looking for Alaska under YA fiction and "bad,").

That said, this should at least keep you busy for a bit.

Happy reading, and good luck on your novel!

Just want to put this out there because I've studied young adult lit and I'll never grow too old to love it: YA is an incredibly fascinating genre. It's an absolute goldmine if you're looking for character development. Even the books with horrible photoshop-vomit covers often have merit if you give them a chance, and the fact that something appeals to teenage girls does not invalidate its quality.

If anyone is interested in reading good young adult fiction, I'd recommend the following:

u/vesi-hiisi · 3 pointsr/Fantasy
  • Miss Mabel's School for Girls by Katie Cross - Dark-ish YA fantasy set in a magic school and moved on to battle training, the culture was based on Wicca with flashy magic and the both the characters and the plot twists were quite impressive. review here Nice to read YA fantasy with a lot of magic and no romance element. I picked up the rest of the series and will read them too.

  • Fae: The Wild Hunt and Fae: The Realm of Twilight by Graham Austin-King: Damn good stuff, his Fae realm is 100 times better than Rothfuss, with mystery and nice magic elements, superb characterization and great job making the Fae sound totally alien. Reviews for book1 and book2

I picked up this book by a fellow /r/fantasy denizen and it sounds quite promising, haven't had a chance to read it yet but I will read it as soon as I can.

Planning to read the Riyria books soon and taking note of the books recommended in this thread, I want to read & review more good indies.
u/holybatjunk · 5 pointsr/EDC

This is my dedicated writer-on-the-go kit, separate from my daily pocket/purse carry, which I'll post eventually because, yes, I carry a knife. Someone mentioned more hobby EDCs a while back, so...

  • Alphasmart 3000
  • Blueberry Larabar
  • Altoid tin (with skullcandy headphones inside)
  • Blank ReWrite Notebook, hidden under
  • Planner by Poketo for Target, 2013 Collection
  • Purple bic ballpoint pen
  • Aladdin Recycled and Recyclable Thermos, with coffee

The alphasmart is the dorkiest but most useful thing in the fucking world. It's super light, durable, and fast. On that ancient baby I have written countless short stories, a book about a gaybro werewolf, and about a dozen scripts for short shitty horror movies that never get made. :) The ReWrite notebooks are great, too--all recycled materials and the perfect travel size, with paper that has just enough tooth to make writing smooth but enjoyable.

Daniel Rose - The Sex God Method

MANHANDLING

The first technique to manhandle your girl is called the door
slam. When your girl is standing with her back towards a
door, grab her and slam her back into it. Press yourself
against her and start making out with her aggressively. This
can also work with a wall, but works much better with a
door. A door will have a some give to it, and the force of the
blow will be distributed across her back. You can slam her
fairly hard without causing her too much pain. In addition, a
door will make a loud noise when you slam her into it,
adding to the exciting Element of Dominance. A wall will
cause her more pain and will not make as much noise, but
can do in a pinch.

The second is ripping her clothes off. Literally. This works best
with her panties. When she’s particularly turned on and you
notice she’s wearing old panties, put your hand inside them
and twist them around your hand to make the ripping easier.
Then, anchor her down to the bed with one hand, and pull
HARD to rip her panties off with the other. Be sure you put
some strength into it, as it will take more force to rip them
off than you think. Also, pull to the side so that the force of
the rip goes into her hip, not her sensitive anal and vaginal
areas. Like the door slam, this creates the impression of
Dominance without excessive pain.

Another way to establish Dominance is by pulling her hair.
To do this, grab her hair as close to the roots as possible and
pull her head wherever you want. This works well when
you’re behind her, sucking on her neck. Hold her by the hair
while you do this and she’ll love it. This also works well
when you’re making her look at you while you’re fucking her
(a great way to increase Emotion, as discussed in the next
section). Holding her by the hair to force her to look at you
packs a powerful one-two punch of Dominance and Emotion.
Finally, spanking your girl is always a great way of
manhandling her. If you two start play-fighting with each
other, wrestle her so that she is face down beneath you and
pull her pants down. Then, throw her over your knee and
spank her naked ass. Spank her HARD – this area of the body
has a lot of muscle and fat cushioning, and can take
considerable punishment before it hurts too much. If you do
it right, the pain won’t be excessive, but it will be very loud
and dramatic. Combine spanking with dirty talk to make it
even more powerful. Tell her “You’re a bad little girl, and
bad little girls have to get punished” as you spank her. If she’s
more comfortable with you, kick the dirty talk up a notch.
Say something like “you’re a dirty little slut, you’ve been
thinking about getting fucked all day. Look at how wet your
pussy is…you need to be punished for being such a whore.”
Spank her a few times, then take the rest of her clothes off
and fuck her hard and deep.

You can also spank her when you’re already fucking her. The
more aroused she is, the more effective spanking is. This is
because as she gets more turned on, spanking isn’t a threat to
her Immersion, so she can fully enjoy the increased
Dominance that it provides. Spank her while you’re having
sex with her on top of you, or in any position where her ass
is exposed. A favorite of many girls is to be spanked while
you are fucking them doggy style.

Books! I feel like this is my element! Can I suggest multiple books or does that not count?

You can never go wrong with A Song of Ice and Fire (which starts with the book, A Game of Thrones) if you haven't read it yet.

These next two I got for free from Amazon as part of the Kindle First program, and I really liked both of them! They're both the first books in their respective series, so I haven't got around to reading the rest of the books in each series but they have potential.

The Paper Magician is about a girl who has just graduated from Magician School, and has been sent off to do her apprenticeship with a paper magician, who only works magic through paper. The girl is a little miffed as she doesn't think paper magic has any worth.

The Line is about a girl who is the only non-magical member in her family of extremely powerful witches who live in Savannah, GA.

Thanks for those, The Narrows looks really interesting. I actually have read Quest of the Five Clans before, I just forgot to add it. I had no idea what it was going into it so I was a little thrown by the style, but I thought it was still pretty good. I'm actually reading Klondaeg right now as well, and I've been meaning to read some of Hayes' books for a while. I've had Where Loyalties Lie on my TBR list forever and keep forgetting to read it. And I didn't list the second Bulletproof Witch since I was only putting the first book of series on the list.

The Paper Magician and The Glass Magician and the first two books in the Paper Magician series, in which nineteen year old Ceony Twill must set aside her disappointment - she wanted to be a Smelter, a metal mage - and learn paper magic instead. But unknown to her, the Folder to whom she's apprenticed happens to be deeply involved in the hunt for dark mages who work with human flesh ...

So far as I can tell, the books aren't marketed as young adult, but they do have a kind of coming of age theme, and - to this point at least - the subject matter would be perfectly acceptable for teens. The writing is sophisticated enough for adults, however.

Paladin of Souls is the second in a series, but features a female protagonist. I thought the first book was better, but this one is good as well.

u/nomongoose · 8 pointsr/AskWomen

Sabriel, Lirael, and Abhorsen (all by Garth Nix) are pretty spectacular if you're into fantasy.

Juliet Marillier also writes a lot of fairy-tale retellings that have female protags, if that's your cup of tea. The Sevenwaters Trilogy is pretty good.

Edit: Ooh, also The Deed of Paksenarrion by Elizabeth Moon (this is epic fantasy, but she also writes a lot of female protags in her space operas) and Paladin of Souls by Lois McMaster Bujold. Those two are fantastic, don't know why they didn't spring to mind right off!

Edit 2: For less spoilery linkage.

Among pure-indie authors, I've enjoyed Krista D. Ball and Tim Marquitz. Oh, and SPFBO winner Michael McClung, although his "The Thief Who..." series was picked up by Ragnarok, so I suppose he's no longer indie.

Among the growing crowd of authors that publish both ways, some of my favorite self-pubbed books are Rachel Aaron's Nice Dragons Finish Last, Brad Beaulieu's Flames of Shadam Khoreh, and Judith Tarr's Forgotten Suns. Plenty more great stuff out there, too.

The followups are even more awesome. Once he found out that Space Raptor Butt Invasion had only been nominated as a joke by a bunch of alt-right asshole who were trying to wreck the Hugo Awards he started denouncing them as scoundrel devilmen in the service of Ted Cobbler, and expanded his space raptor butt work into a trilogy with two new volumes that are just thinly veiled allegories for the whole Hugo-rigging debacle.

Oh and he also started heavily promoting science fiction by various progressive and minority authors that were in the alt right's sights.

  • Hatchet, about a boy stranded in the Canadian wilderness.
  • Holes, about a boy cursed with bad luck who ends up in a prison camp
  • Leviathan trilogy, a retelling of WWI where the Austro-Hungarians have mechas and the British have genetically-engineered whale blimps. This is evenly split between a male and female perspective (and a huge hit in a relative's special ed class for the same age group).
  • The Ranger's Apprentice, introductory medieval fantasy about a boy training to be a ranger.
  • Incarceron, about a steampunk labyrinth prison and the fake medieval world outside.
  • The Ear, the Eye, and the Arm, about mutant detectives in future Zimbabwe.

    15-18

  • World War Z, about a zombie apocalypse and how different countries and people deal with it. Has a lot to say about geopolitics. (Not necessarily YA, but popular in that age group)
  • Feed, where everyone has the internet in their heads from birth. While partying on the moon, boy meets girl who didn't get the feed until age 6.
  • John Green's other books, like Looking for Alaska, etc all have male protagonists.
  • Little Brother, about a teenage hacker swept up by the Department of Homeland Security after a terrorist attack on California.
  • Legend trilogy, about a dystopian United States and a police prodigy trying to track down another 15-year old rebel. This is another one split between a male and female perspective.
  • Kurt Vonnegut and Tim O'Brien are technically adult authors, but very accessible and popular in that age group.

Would also second Artemis Fowl, Percy Jackson, Ender's Game, and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy that other commentators mentioned.

I'm female and straight (and so is the author as far as I can tell), so I'm not actually sure how someone in the community will view it. but if you do want to keep at this and try to relight the fire, may I recommend: http://www.amazon.com/Sex-God-Method-2nd-Edition/dp/0557036488/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1333611794&sr=8-1

sounds cheesy I know, but if you do look into it, I'd like to know what you think.

g'luck!

> (Or your books, I'm game for that)

The first books of two or her series are free on Kindle. And I've heard nothing but good things about her newest series (I'll get to reading it eventually). Good variety, too.

u/Nwfistere · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I would love a kindle because I used to have a Kindle Touch but then it broke from overuse. I have so many ebooks but I can only read them on my laptop. I would appreciate Looking for Alaska. I've read The Fault in our stars and I would love to read some of his other books.

u/judogirl · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Here is a kindle book I would like to read that is less than ten dollars.

Thank you for the contest!

u/destinyisntfree · 2 pointsr/RandomActsofeBooks

I would love to get a copy of Looking for Alaska which is only 2.50 right now. Of course, if the price goes up on it I will edit this.

u/GrandCzarOfRedPill · 2 pointsr/asktrp

Have you read "The Sex God Method?"

It can help you with DEVI (Dominance, Emotion, Variety and Immersion).

I'm just a sweet transvestite from Transsexual Transylvania! A mental mind fuck can be nice.

Aha I love the Rocky Horror Picture Show! I've always wanted to go to a live screening, but I've never had the chance :(

Anywho, sweet find! I'm really excited to finally read this book.

u/Pramble · 25 pointsr/ChapoTrapHouse

This reminds me of a review left for the Chuck Tingle book, Helicopter Man Pounds Dinosaur Billionaire Ass

>This is the new 50 shades of grey. As an attack helicopter, I am so happy to finally be represented in erotic fiction. Even as a non-helicopter you will find this book some of the best erotic fiction ever written. Definitely give this a read.

u/KariQuiteContrary · 4 pointsr/books

I second The Hunger Games and Percy Jackson series as recommendations.

Looking for Alaska is really popular among my high school students, both girls and boys.

Maybe Ender's Game?

The Seven Realms series is another one several of my kids have been raving about to me. I haven't gotten around to reading them myself, but it might be worth checking out. Starts with The Demon King.

"TL;DR - Fuck her well and good and she'll want you more than she even thought she could."

This is a good read.

I've already read it, but if you liked it I suggest Looking for Alaska, also by John Green. It's also one you shouldn't read on an airplane.

u/W_O_M_B_A_T · 5 pointsr/relationship_advice

Why? Are those other guys dating her too?

If not, then you have something they'll never have. You're literally better than them, you know that don't you?

Stop mentally masturbating about just how inferior you think you are. Literally scratching your ass is a better use of your time, energy and thought than indulging in self-loathing and self-pity.

Read the Sex God Method by Daniel rose

When they make a subreddit dedicated to the masterpiece of Helicopter Man Pounds Dinosaur Billionaire Ass (A Novel), my life will be complete.

u/InevBetrayal · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I read these three recently, and i can safely recommend them:

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green (gonna have a movie made soon)

Looking for Alaska also by John Green

Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion (much grittier than the movie)

u/Zoobles88 · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Evening all! I just finished Ready Player One...up next is...drum roll

Looking for Alaska!!

u/kschang · 2 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

Clears are not available in "retail" products except rather exclusive/boutique makers like Ducky, WASD, Max etc. And they have not adopted floating key design like the Chinese makers.

Browns are not too hard, but CHERRY Browns with floating may be a bit harder. Here's something to consider:

Cougar Attack X3 w/ Cherry Browns $80 on Amazon.

Another would be...

Nixeus Moda Pro w/ Kailh Browns $55 on Amazon.

There are quite a few "premium models" w/ floating design coming out of China with Cherry switches instead of Kailh or other switches, but they haven't been exported much. Royal Kludge S-108 is supposed to have a Cherry edition with Browns, and the "coming soon" MagicForce Crystal 108 should have Cherry as well, and thus, browns.

I bought Fluency solely on the strength of it's cover.

LOOK AT "THE SEX GOD METHOD"

She basically wants you to lead, because it's the ultimate manifestation of man

u/SmallFruitbat · 1 pointr/suggestmeabook

Eleanor & Park, Looking for Alaska, and Fangirl could hit many of those relationship notes (no easy answers, not sure what you want, things are not all sunshine and roses) and they're quick reads.

>Are there any RP guides on fucking specifically?

I've heard other RP people talk about this book as being essential TRP material but I've never read it and I don't know what's in it.

http://www.amazon.com/Sex-God-Method-Daniel-Rose/dp/0557036488

>I know there's guys out there that can own a girl entirely off their dick game, how can I move in this direction?

I don't personally recommend it. I recommend using every tool in your arsenal. If a lot of people want to know my sex method I can write another post about it, but the short answer is that experience is valuable. Practice, mix it up and take note of her reactions, of what works and what doesn't.

u/BananaAuxiliary · 13 pointsr/funny

There's certainly a market for Dino porn.

u/vrimj · 1 pointr/suggestmeabook

I have been loving Courtney Milan which is historical romance but with a bit of forget accuracy, it is fiction let me give you herionies modem women can root for. I suggest you start with the brother's sinister series. It starts with this novella which is free and concerns really disturbing things and class issues but still offers a real romance.

Oh, I see. Can you usually purchase self-published Kindle books in Singapore? Does this, book, for instance, also show as unavailable?

Without Bloodshed by Matthew Graybosch (/u/asuraemulator)

>“All who threaten me die.”

>These words made Morgan Stormrider’s reputation as one of the Phoenix Society’s deadliest IRD officers. He served with distinction as the Society’s avenger, hunting down anybody who dared kill an Adversary in the line of duty. After a decade spent living by the sword, Morgan seeks to bid a farewell to arms and make a new life with his friends as a musician.

>Regardless of his faltering faith, the Phoenix Society has a final mission for Morgan Stormrider after a dictator’s accusations make him a liability to the organization. He must put everything aside, travel to Boston, and prove he is not the Society’s assassin. He must put down Alexander Liebenthal’s coup while taking him alive.

>Despite the gravity of his task, Morgan cannot put aside his ex-girlfriend’s murder, or efforts to frame him and his closest friends for the crime. He cannot ignore a request from a trusted friend to investigate the theft of designs for a weapon before which even gods stand defenseless. He cannot disregard the corruption implied in the Phoenix Society’s willingness to make him a scapegoat should he fail to resolve the crisis in Boston without bloodshed.

>The words with which Morgan Stormrider forged his reputation haunt him still.
