Here is the switcher that I use. My tv has s video input so it works great because I can use systems that output s video or composite with this one. Here is an s video cable that would work for both your SNES and your N64. Here is a composite cable that would work with your model 1 Sega Genesis, and Here would be am example of composite cables that would work with you NES.

As for the surge protector, here is the one I use and I really like it because it can hold a lot of the big power bricks that these older consoles like to use. Anyway hope that helped point you in the right direction. Of course it is a little bit of an investment, but overall I bet you will be much happier with a set up like this. I know personally I could never go back to constantly physically switching consoles out when I want to play them, this makes it so much easier to enjoy all my consoles with minimal effort. Good luck on your set up!

This is my opinion, so take it as you will;

Many here are saying specialty shops for games and systems, and frankly I just don't see the point of that. blah blah nostalgia but bottom line is that paying what the thing costs new from a reseller (no profit to the original developers of the hardware or software) is hugging the line between "Stupid" and "Stupid Hipster".

Get your Sega Controller, SNES Controller, NES Controller, N64 controller... or just a good general controller which can be used for many games. I own a few of these and I'll tell you right now that overall they feel very authentic. I have the black version of that N64 controller for example and once I start playing I can't tell the difference between it and the original.

And then get a good pack of ROMs to get you started.

There are so many advantages to emulating these systems that it's hard to decide where to begin. Simple, reliable, and you can fit whole libraries of games on a thumb drive. From right now I could be playing any NES title you can imagine in a minute, and switch to any N64 title in the same time without screwing with cords and boxes taking up space.

---

I respect the fact that piracy is a no-no. However this money is not going to the people who make the games. It's going to resellers who are charging you for nostalgia, so you can use unsupported equipment which can and will screw up on you (if you don't get bored with it and wonder why you dropped a few hundred bucks on games from when you were 10).

To open it you're going to need a 4.5 Screwdriver Security Bit commonly known as a gamebit. I bought the one linked and it worked fine for opening my N64.

Before opening it up though I would attempt to gently clean the contact with rubbing alcohol and a q-tip. That usually does the trick for me. Even if it's busted, that's a pretty inexpensive cartridge and isn't incredibly difficult to find.

Good luck!

I've found cheap Xbox controllers on sale that have bluetooth for quite a bit cheaper, but regardless I can understand the concern. I use xbox controllers for PC anyway so I had them lying around. I've used a couple third party controllers on my switch as well as Xbox ones, but all the third party ones I used are wired.

https://www.amazon.com/ESYWEN-Controller-Adjustable-Compatible-Bluetooth/dp/B07JWHVHLQ seems interesting and quite cheap and fits what you need.

I can't comment on broader compatibility, but my best guess when looking is just go off reviews, that's typically what i've done.

The incomplete, ever expanding Genesis startup guide:

First, determine if you've got a Genesis, Genesis 2, or Genesis 3. For a Genesis 1, the instructions are a little different. For the 2 and 3, they're the same. Here we go.

For the Genesis 1, you want to buy two cables. This cable gives you your video. This cable gives you stereo audio from the Genesis headset jack.

For the Genesis 2/3, Stereo sound is built into the AV hookup, so you only need this one cable. This is not the same cable you'd buy for the Genesis 1. The hookup is completely different.

Make sure, whatever you do, that you avoid an RF adapter. They'll put your games on the screen, but the quality isn't nearly as nice.

Now for games. Here's a random sampling of few favorites for you: Aladdin, Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle, Ecco the Dolphin, The Lion King, Mortal Kombat II Phantasy Star IV, Phelios, Ristar, Rocket Knight Adventures, and X-Men.

As for the controller, you can find one on Amazon just as easily as the cables.

u/D0NK11 · 1 pointr/Megadrive

I recommend one of these. https://www.amazon.co.uk/8Bitdo-Wireless-Gamepad-Original-Genesis/dp/B07HB1XFQW/ref=sr_1_1?crid=KI7869CC2U0Z&keywords=8bitdo+megadrive&qid=1571502081&sprefix=8bitdo+mega%2Caps%2C136&sr=8-1

They work and feel great, for best results you will want to upgrade the firmware on both the controller and receiver(requires opening it)

China exporting a lot and importing little is a good thing

This means that chinese made goods are good enough to beat goods made in other countries, and that the goods they are producing are in demand.

If you look at chinese exports, they are no longer making $1 t-shirts , instead china is exporting consumer products with decent price tags, and they are doing well many bestsellers on amazon

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01MA5XZSG/

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00X5RV14Y/

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00HTK1NCS/

When China has a lot of products like this, they would have high exports and low imports.

Both domestic consumers and foreign consumers will purchase the better product.

China is climbing the value chain

u/I_Gargled_Jarate · 1 pointr/gamecollecting

Cool! I kinda like the ones that have turned yellow with age. You can open those with a 4.5 mm security bit screwdriver! If you don't have one you can buy one for like 6 bucks online Here's a link to amazon for ya.

u/dpkimsecks · 1 pointr/gaming

If you have to clean it, and won't just buy it. Buy this.

http://www.amazon.com/Screwdriver-Security-GameCube-Consoles-Genesis-Master/dp/B000F78NBQ

And open it up, be careful of the electronics. Take it apart, clean the shell, and put it back together. It's an easy assembly. Shouldn't be too hard.

u/judgmentt · 1 pointr/retrogaming

Here are all the links
25Pack
3Pack
10Pack

They wont start shipping until they have some pre orders in there so do not hesitate to place one. If you have prime membership its even better since you wont have to deal with importing from the US anymore :D Happy Collecting!

u/krabstarr · 45 pointsr/gaming

The RetroGEN Adaptor is the one I know of. Now you too can play Genesis games on your Super Nintendo! Includes a region switch for Megadrive games.

u/HandOfHephaestus · 2 pointsr/crtgaming

They're just off for the holiday season. I'm sure you could just wait till the second or so...
Otherwise buy a cheap genesis Scart RGB cable off amazon and a DB25 connector like these, cut and splice them:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ZK8EF44/

https://www.amazon.com/product/dp/B01JSK2LHM/

u/mrpopsicleman · 2 pointsr/retrogaming

It's already been done for NES (via the Innovation Super 8 and the RetroPORT Adapter), the Sega Genesis (via the RetroGEN Adapter), and GBA (via the Super Retro Advance Adapter). The major difference being that those have their own video output and basically just use the SNES for controller input and power.

u/Sirotaca · 3 pointsr/SEGAGENESIS

An OSSC and a decent SCART cable together aren't much more expensive than a RetroTINK-2X, an HD Retrovision cable, and a model 1 adapter. The nice thing about the RT2X is that you can use it with composite video or S-Video for consoles that don't support RGB, but otherwise the OSSC is better.

u/SpectrumWoes · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

I ended up buying this - $25 and the only drawback is that it doesn’t have Amiibo support. I’ll deal. Works great!

> It's like saying Ford/GM/Dodge/etc. use Phillips head screws because it was easier than making their own screwdriver.

Unless you're Nintendo, Sega, Apple, or Microsoft. Then it's totally doable because you're not too busy building cars. They use Phillips because they have dealers with repair shops that they can't cut the knees out from under.

u/TMayes86 · 2 pointsr/n64

Totally agree, it's $4.47 on Amazon for a legit screwdriver.

I only have one extra controller but it is a 6 button one. Its like the one below but with the Sega logo on it

u/FlashGen · 1 pointr/Megadrive

I hear the 8bitdo m30 2.4ghz version is very good.

linky link link

(It is wireless though so may not be suitable for speed running due to latency)

Edit: added more info.

u/Rxero13 · 1 pointr/retrogaming

I use the Retro Duo Protable. Won't play Mega Drive games, but it'll play NES and SNES. Genesis games are possible but you need to buy the "Gen" adapter.

u/ChippyLipton · 2 pointsr/myChippyLipton

They’re just cheap amazon ones! they work well, though. I’m sure they won’t last forever, but I’m not about to spend hundreds on a set of cans.

u/locojason · 1 pointr/SEGA

I'll do one better, here's a link to some used ones for sale ~$10 on amazon. I'm sure you could find one NIB if you looked hard enough, but it would cost you 4x that at the very least.

u/crimsonblade · 2 pointsr/AskReddit

Yes, using a coax/rf switch. Here is one that might work. Takes the signal from the system and runs it through the cable (coax).

u/vinnycthatwhoibe · 1 pointr/n64

If you have the correct gamebit (screw driver bit) you can easily open the console and just pop both the reset and power buttons out and give them a thorough cleaning. Here's the bit http://www.amazon.com/Screwdriver-Security-GameCube-Consoles-Genesis-Master/dp/B000F78NBQ

u/ThoughtNinja · 2 pointsr/SegaCD

I use the Sega 32x a/v cables for my Genesis/SCD. Works just fine.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000F78NBQ?pc_redir=1412322229&robot_redir=1#

Here's the link to the screwdriver. I'm on mobile so I can't make the link smaller.

The crack inside of the n64 is strange to me, if you can open the n64 without damaging the shell more then I would check it out. Although I'm not what else you can do.

u/Savesthaday · 2 pointsr/8bitdo

It is available for pre-order on Amazon

u/llibertybell965 · 2 pointsr/SEGAGENESIS

Here are the model 2 AV cables I bought. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00XBDM4R0?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf

u/morphotomy · 1 pointr/SEGAGENESIS

I had wireless controllers for my genesis in 1992. I was a toddler. Never understood why other consoles didn't do that.

In theory you should be able to use the new 8bitdo Wireless Dongle for the Sega Genesis, with the bluetooth gamepad of your choice.

8bitdo recently released a new version of the M30 2.4G that comes with a USB receiver: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07XPHP57T/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_-rUVDbJK68CPT

You can also get the version of the M30 2.4G with Sega Genesis receiver and combine it with a Raphnet adapter: https://www.raphnet-tech.com/products/db9joy_usb_v2/index.php

and

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HB1XFQW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_vAUVDbK3NW9KV

This second option is twice as expensive, but it lets you use your controller on both PC and Sega Genesis.

u/mmmeadi · 1 pointr/retrogaming

Saturn. Then I'd get one of these bad boys and play all the genesis I want on my SNES.

Both seem to have a lot of positive feedback, your best bet if you want gaming headphones in particular. Mic is also fairly decent for the price that you're paying judging by reviews on YT.

Generally cloth pads are okay no matter if good quality office pads or ones made for gaming (even no name brands that offer king-sized ones work), but it's the size that makes the difference. You can get a cheap mid-size Roccat Taito or a QcK+ for 10 bucks. If you wanna go the hard pad route make sure you don't throw your money at the wrong pad:

http://www.overclock.net/t/1507448/top-available-hard-cloth-mouse-pads

That's for cloth pads, plastic pads for office use are more or less absolute crap and cheaply made.

Sick! So it is!

Just gotta wait for them to start selling them in Germany now. I see their other products around so hopefully it won't take long for this one to spread!
