Thanks! I never hated veggies, but yes, my taste buds have changed a bit. I thought the Eatsmart Veggie Sticks were okay when I first bought them and now I think they are the best snack ever. :)

The Morningstar Chickpea or Spicy Black Bean burgers are great when it needs to be quick and easy. We eat two of them with one whole wheat hamburger bun, one on each side like an open faced sandwich. You can put mustard or something like that on it if you don't like it plain.

Whenever fresh salmon is on sale we get some and fry it in some olive oil, with parsley. Then it goes on a Kaiser roll with a little bit of cream cheese, some red cabbage, and sweet pickles. Tastes awesome.

During the week I often make a baked potato with a serving of meat and a serving of veggies, followed by Dannon Light and Fit Greek Yogurt.

Xtreme makes a low carb wrap (Walmart) that is pretty good. I like to take 2 slices of Hormel Deli Ham and 2 slices of Sargento Thin Colby Jack, toss in some tomatoes, cucumbers, and lettuce, and wrap it all up like a burrito. I seal the end with cream cheese. Great with a salad!

Zucchinis are very tasty, too! I invested in an $8 spiralizer from amazon and it's a great substitution for actual pasta. You can barely taste the difference. It only needs to cook for about 3 minutes, though. I also like zucchini boats as a side. Cut the zucchini in the middle, so you have 2 long "boats". Add some dried parsley, some grated Parmesan cheese, and drizzle with a little bit of olive oil. Bake at 400 degrees for about 18-20 minutes.

This stuff is amazing for salads. Takes a little bit to arrive, but is worth it. The dill one is slightly sweet and works well with cucumbers.

Other than that, I have a few more complicated recipes. Veggie stew, chicken noodle soup (recipe shared in comments), that kind of stuff.

  • Hamburgers/cheeseburgers without the bun. Even if you don't want to make your own burgers, there's a ton of options for pre-made ones, very easy to grill or pan fry them up.
  • Low-carb tortillas (3g net carbs per tortilla). Pretty versatile and good for essentially any meal. I've been having them for breakfast lately with scrambled eggs, cheese and hot sauce. Also good for making low carb pizzas.
  • Good old eggs and bacon.
  • I like the Bird's Eye Steamfresh veggies for when I'm in a pinch. Creamed spinach is probably one of my favourites, broccoli and cauliflower is also pretty good. They also make stuff like mashed and riced cauliflower. Very convenient since I can just do it in the microwave.
  • Taco salads. Ground beef is super cheap and you can just toss in some taco seasoning. Add in your avocado, cheese, sour cream, hot sauce, salsa and its pretty tasty.
  • Chicken thighs. They're cheaper than breasts and much more forgiving when it comes to overcooking. They don't dry out as much as a breast would, and they're much tastier. I usually pan fry mine in some olive oil or something along those lines.
  • Get yourself a grill pan and you can do any number of proteins or veggies on the stove.
  • Always keep a ton of snacks around. Nuts, beef jerky, cheese (string cheese or stuff like Baby Bel), peanut butter etc. can be life savers.
  • Make your own dip with ranch or French onion seasoning packets. I mix them in with some sour cream and cream cheese and have those with veggies, especially stuff like celery. The ranch is also pretty good as a seasoning for chicken or shrimp.
  • Chili. Really easy to do in the slow cooker and there are tons of recipes out there. Also keeps pretty well long term so it's a nice one to do and then portion out and maybe freeze for later.

Irish fella here. Lived over there and now me and the Mrs living here. We do a thanksgiving every year. One thing to note, it is not a session. Few drinks at dinner and that's it. It's usually is a very respectful family event that is more about eating than drinking.

It is basically a big pot luck. You bring a cuple of dishes. Maybe a big bowl of champ mash or a salad, or even a cuple apple tarts. Bring a bottle of wine maybe too. You do not have to go all out buying all that but there is some ideas.Best thing to do is actually ask him. "Hey, I wanted to bring some food or drink over for celebration; Is there anything I can cook and bring to make your day easier?"

If you're looking to bring him something from America, then order some of these. Of all the Americans I talk to here, this is the gold dust! Make sure you get the mix packet and not the bottle if you go this route.https://www.amazon.co.uk/Hidden-Valley-Original-Seasoning-Envelopes/dp/B003G9L1TQ/ref=sr_1_7?adgrpid=59082866795&gclid=CjwKCAiA8K7uBRBBEiwACOm4d0ZoaG-bp_fWfZGYm0KMC6QnZWvvbuvQ3619mw_21jwkbTNjrMA_LhoCrMcQAvD_BwE&hvadid=291461063033&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=20479&hvnetw=g&hvpos=1t1&hvqmt=b&hvrand=5554114308059697605&hvtargid=kwd-295729881566&hydadcr=8469_1790195&keywords=hidden+valley+ranch+dressing&qid=1573674640&sr=8-7

Hit me a PM if you need any more info. Fair play in trying to make him fell welcome. Definitely bring something!!

Edit: Americans fucking love sweet potatoes so bang up a few of those and mash em.

I love everything from Bragg's. This is my absolute favorite from them, this is tasty but not so much my style, and this is also pretty yum.

Whole Foods makes a garlic-tahini dressing though that is fuckin' to die for. I love it so much. It's the stuff they put on their kale and sell by the tub (which is effing delicious, mind you). I get a bottle and use it for salads and I stole their idea and I put it on raw kale, straight up. So good.

On a Mexican salad I love to just use salsa. Super low calories, which is good because sometimes I have rice or something heavy in it. Always have black beans on a Mexican salad. Yum. But seriously, salsa.

u/TheOriginalStack · 2 pointsr/instantpot

Try getting dry ranch mix. That is what I use at home here in the States. It calls for Mayo and Milk but I will often just use milk and a little plain greek yogurt since I dont like it too rich. It seems Amazon will ship certain items to Argentina like this one.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B002OAOADW/ref=mp_s_a_1_cc_2_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1538765373&sr=8-2-catcorr&keywords=ranch+dressing+mix

As far as canned soup and alfredo sauce try making your own. Even though I can get it here I dont like to use alot of canned processed food. Ive had really good success making my own condensed cream of mushroom soup when I get a hankering for green bean casserole. I know that may not be the answer you were hoping for. Hope it helps anyway.

I won't reiterate what others have said about liquid because they are dead on correct. Just keep in mind you lose virtually no liquid to evaporation with pressure cooking. However certain foods will absorb water. You just want to make sure you have enough liquid to creat the steam and account for any absorption so your food doesnt burn.

Sorry I tried looking for an English website :(

I haven't done keto in Japan, because I have not been there since I started keto, but I found quite a few Japanese low-carbers on Instagram, and actually got to know about Lawson's low-carb selection through one of them. I imagine you'd need to be super diligent and disciplined, but the thing is, a lot of people buy their lunches from convenience stores anyway, and they have a great selection of meat, eggs, salads, etc. I for one was ecstatic when I found out that my favourite roasted sesame dressing is keto-friendly (http://www.amazon.com/Kewpie-Deep-Roasted-Sesame-Dressing-5-75/dp/B002U4OV6I) :)

Vinegar-based over cream-based as a general rule. For a quick German salad...this is what you do and it's fucking delicious.

You get a cucumber and a tomato. Or just a cucumber.

You get a packet of knorr powered salad dressing, the one with dill spice in it. Called - Knorr Salat Krönung dill-kräuter.

You make the dressing according to directions (ie water, oil, vinegar) and add it to your chopped up cucumber.

Toss, and enjoy. It's the shit. And takes like 5 min.

If you are up for a little more cooking and know how to boil water, you can make the best German potato salad ever. EVER. Direct from my Oma to you fine people:

1 long english (14") cucumber (or 2 med sized cukes)

8 medium sized red potatoes

2 packets knorr dill-kräuter spice salad dressing

2 chicken bouillon cubes (or use beef or veg flavor, your preference)

Apple cider vinegar

Water

Soy sauce

Olive oil (or canola, your preference)

Worcestershire sauce

Cut cucumber into thin coins. Boil potatoes with skin on till knife cuts through easy. Drain potatoes and let cool in cold water briefly until they are able to be handled without burning your fingers.
Put bouillon cubes in small saucepan, add 1/2 cup vinegar. Heat till cubes dissolve in vinegar. Put knorr powered dressing spice in a large bowl, add vinegar-bouillon liquid, add 2 tablespoons of water and 3 tablespoons oil. Wisk together. Add a 2 teaspoons each of soy sauce and Worcestershire sauce. Wisk. Add more vinegar to taste. You want to aim for a concentrated vinegary umami flavor. But tastes vary by person. I like something more vinegary so I add more apple cider vinegar.

Add in the cucumber. Let sit for 10 min to let them get a slight pickle. Now do a rough chop of the boiled potatoes into coins. The final mixing will naturally break up the potatoes into smaller pieces. Keep the skin on friends...don't be a monster.... that's flavor. Put chopped potatoes in the cucumber dressing bowl and gently mix everything together. Let sit for 5 min, then do a taste test and add more vinegar/soy sauce/Worcestershire sauce to taste. You shouldn't really need much more.

No need to add any salt or anything. All the seasoning is in the knorr powder! It's a wonder spice blend!

You can be fancy and toss in a thinly sliced red onion. You can be next level extra fancy by adding a few crushed up pieces of crispy bacon and bacon drippings. 🥒🥓🥓

The potato salad is best after an hour resting... IF you can wait that long to eat it. It's amazing the next day after being in the refrigerator overnight. It's the best side dish to take to a bbq or potluck. This is the quick salad my Oma would always make. It's 100% german grandmother approved. It's ridiculously good with seared and grilled salmon.

Thing is that it's on the hard side to find the knorr seasoning in american stores. I always had german relatives send me boxes of the stuff from Germany. I recently found that amazon sells it. The directions are in German, but that's what Google translate is for.

Thanks! A pellet barbecue/smoker has a hopper for wood pellets, typically made of Oak or Alder, with a certain percentage of an aromatic hardwood, such as Mesquite, Apple, Cherry, or Maple. These are fed into the firepit via an auger that is controlled by the thermostat, allowing you to set a temperature for cooking. Real barbecue (low & slow) usually happens around 225-235°F, which allows for longer cooking times in order to break down tough connective tissue in traditional BBQ foods like brisket, or ribs. Crunch chicken skin comes at higher temps, though. The "Chef Merito Carne Asada" seasoning can be found in a lot of supermarkets in my part of California, or almost always in a 'Mexican' market. It's basically Salt, sugar, chile powder, & some citrus. This could be easily approximated with stuff from your spice rack (see if you can find dried Pasilla chile powder if you make your own. The "Chocatal" was discovered at my local supermarket, but it's available online:
http://jeremiahspick.com/store/online-store/chocatal-bbq-rub/
"Johnny's Great Caesar" (1g total carbs per 2 Tblsp!) is a must for any keto fan (who likes Caesar dressing), and is fairly common in supermarkets here, but also available online:
http://www.amazon.com/Johnnys-Great-Caesar-Classic-Dressing/dp/B004BMX53W
Lastly, here's a link to the Pellethead.com site, where you can learn more about pellet stoves & cooking than I'll ever know:

Annie's Goddess is my favorite, they also makes a Woodstock dressing that I love.

If anyone has a Trader Joe's nearby their Goddess is very good as well. There's also a Spicy Peanut I love at TJs

u/bellonkg · 1 pointr/StLouis

Basically it'll make it because it will all melt together in the end. I think if you just finely dice up the cheese together or use a food processor to basically turn it into a nice uniform blend.

And as for the dressing, there's usually a few places to buy it online, but this may be the most expedient option, but is super expensive at 25 bucks. Its basically a sweet creamy Italian dressing, so I'm sure there'd also be similar products at your local market.

u/MC2lol · 1 pointr/keto

I am a Ranch Dressing stickler. I am in love with a "Red Robin" buttermilk style ranch that I can't find anywhere in the stores, nor can I seem to match it when trying to create it on my own. I did however, find an exact match on Amazon Fresh - Lascaris Ranch - I'm not sure if this product is nation wide, so I apologize to those who aren't able to purchase, but I absolutely love it:

https://www.amazon.com/Lascaris-Italian-Ranch-Dressing-32oz/dp/B00FJE2XWA/ref=sr_1_15_f_f_it?s=amazonfresh&ie=UTF8&qid=1500400855&sr=1-15&ppw=fresh&keywords=Ranch+Dressing

You're right on. Sometimes restaurants that don't do a lot of prep will simply use the shelf-stable bottles ranch, and they are all pretty terrible. Some of the refrigerated jars, like Marzeti's are okay, but nothing is as good as homemade.

As for Hidden Valley Ranch mix, I used to get a shaker bottle and mix it with sour cream, mayonnaise, and buttermilk, and it's quite good! It also makes really good veggie/carrot dip when mixed with sour cream.

I went to Amazon to get the link and saw they are out of stock of the brand I use.
Vegan Fish Sauce | VFish | British Food Products | 5fl oz. (150ml) | MSG Seasoning | Vegetarian & Vegan Gifts | Seaweed Based Gift | Fish-Free Fish Sauce https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D4LFMGD/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_oHfRDb6BE4FM7

They have another brand but it's too expensive in my opinion. Link at bottom. So I suggest this instead.

It's probably right, or at least close. So maybe 1/4 of a tomato then, and maybe 1/8-1/4 of an apple - that's only like a 20-40 calorie difference with those two things.

MFP shows 1/4 cup of plain walnuts at 180-200 cal. Here is handy image to help you reference the size of the chicken breast; 4oz is a pretty standard size I think. This 1.5oz package of dressing is 120cal.

Even if you took out all the vegetables, it's still 470-490cal based on rough estimates. Salads often have far more calories than you'd think. That said, you're the only one here who's actually seen the salad.

Though, if you're getting a salad that contains less than 4oz of chicken, 1/4 cup walnuts, 1/2 a tomato and 1/2 an apple... I hope you're not paying very much for the thing!

u/brisingr0 · 2 pointsr/fitmeals

Yeah definitively, do it overnight and it'll be amazing. Also this stuff is really good to marinate it in as well.

Try Brianna's Ranch dressing. By far the best one I've ever had and tops most resturant ranch dressings. This is what it looks like. I've seen it sold all across the states since I travel for work. https://www.amazon.com/Briannas-Classic-Buttermilk-Ranch-Pack/dp/B0045W2D0O

I just bought a bottle of Kewpie Deep-Roasted Sesame dressing from Pearl River Mart today.

http://www.amazon.com/Kewpie-Deep-Roasted-Sesame-Dressing-5-75/dp/B002U4OV6I

Can't wait to try it. I wonder how the Deep-Roasted is different (if at all) from the regular roasted! Love me some of that good ol' MSG. <3

Pro-tip: Make your own ranch using the dry powder and mix it with some cultured diary like buttermilk/sour cream/yogurt and mayonnaise. It is significantly better tasting because its made with fresher ingredients. You need specifically hidden valley ranch dressing seasoning mix. I prefer this bulk powder instead of the packets. Let's you make smaller or bigger batches easier than dealing with little packets!

The sheer number of flavors that chips/crisps can be had in in america is literally STAGGERING to the rest of the world.

And day to day in the US. ;)

So, ya, ranch is kind of old hat.

FYI, in america you can buy ranch powder and make ANYTHING ranch flavored.

Probably this. It's becoming more popular recently and you can find it at some regular grocery stores.

Hidden Valley also sells ranch dressing mix so you can make your own at home (which tastes far better than the bottled stuff).

It is a brand of ranch powder. So, ranch. Hidden Valley Original Ranch Seasoning and Salad Dressing Mix

u/overlysound · 3 pointsr/keto

I combine 1/2 cup mayo, 1 1/2 cup buttermilk with 3 tbsp of Ranch seasoning. Keeps at least 1 week (it may keep longer but I use it by 1 week). You can change the consistency and flavor by varying the relative amounts of mayo and buttermilk, or use milk instead of buttermilk for something more liquidy.
