  • Veggies and dip: I buy ranch seasoning and mix it with sour cream and cream cheese to make my own dip. There's a ton of seasoning packets you can pick but my two favourite are probably ranch and French onion.
  • Deli meats and pickled or salted veggies. There's a ton of selection in deli meats, and they go great with stuff like dill pickles or olives or even stuff like kimchi or sauerkraut. I make 'antipasto' boxes for myself with a little bit of everything, they always come out pretty tasty.
  • Berries + cream
  • Low carb tortillas: use them for wraps or with some peanut butter, I use these pretty often.
  • Make your own trail mix with any variety of seeds and nuts, sugar free dark chocolate chips.
  • Beef jerky
  • Tinned tuna/chicken keeps really well and is great for making tuna or chicken salads. I like to eat them in lettuce boats, and load them up with diced celery or cucumber and mix up with seasonings and mayonnaise.
  • Kale chips or seaweed snacks

As a side note - look into getting yourself a crockpot. They're dorm friendly and you don't need to babysit them. There's a million recipes out there for slow cooker meals that are all very friendly. Plus, you can go to class and come back to a tasty meal.

https://www.amazon.com/gimMe-Organic-Premium-Roasted-Seaweed/dp/B00BCG0OAC nori strips - salty and crunchy, can distract me from chips! (1pt) I agree with good thins corn and salsa- when i feel super snacky that gets me far. banana dipped in PB2 chocolate powder (1pt) Or I make riffs of Elote salad- pending how many points I want to spend I use corn, scallions, chili powder, garlic, FF eta (lower pt option) or FF mayo (higher pt option)- super yummy, and put over romaine if I need more filling. Can also add in black or pinto beans for more of a side dish/lunch... and of course a tumaro wrap (1Pt) with FF refried beans (0pts) and some reduced fat feta or cheddar, salsa, lettuce, etc!

I haven't seen anyone else on the keto subreddit mention these, but I LOVE dried seasoned nori as a snack. I think I enjoy it even more than I used to enjoy popcorn. Might help you out when you're looking for evening "comfort food". http://www.amazon.com/Kirkland-Signature-Roasted-Seaweed-Count/dp/B00AG0GLKM. As for your "toast and butter" craving, have you tried making flaxseed muffins or "Caveman Keto" almond flour buns?

That one is similar, but not quite the same one. That stuff is okay, but it's not worth the calories. It's like big pieces of tempura fried onto the seaweed. It only 130 calories a bag!. Frying the seaweed makes me squeamish but I am confident in weighing the seaweed, frying it, then weighing it again to calculate how much oil is absorbed. It's my favorite snack and sometimes just can't afford the packaged version. I'm the opposite way and can't rationalize eating something after looking at the cals on the package. I've gotten obsessive over cooking and am working on a copycat Halo Top right now. There's xanthan gum and a scale that measure to 1/00th of a gram in my pantry...

BTW sugar-free Hershey's Syrup is 5 cal/ Tbp and pretty doggone good.

u/caraeeezy · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

This is Roasted Sesame Swaweed snacks which sounds REALLY weird, but it tastes super delicious! My sister can eat a whole package of these in a few minutes, and she is also intolerant.

cheese me please!

Sailor V would be amazing <3

u/garmonbozia_ · 2 pointsr/loseit

I've been eating a lot of cuties! they're super easy to peel and according to MFP only 40 calories and high in vitamin C! (I love when MFP praises my food choices).

I also snack on these wasabi seaweed snacks a lot. It's only 50 calories for the whole pack.

And snack sized packs of mozzarella for 70 cal

u/itsme_eloise · 3 pointsr/EatCheapAndHealthy

$12 bucks for a 6 pack on Amazon, each pack contains two portions at 30 calories each (but you'll eat them both). [Edit: They're $0.99 in-store] Someone commented this on the Amazon product page:

> What everyone who loves these needs to know is that if you have a Trader Joe's in the neighborhood and they don't stock this, or stock it intermittently, they will be quite happy to order a supply for you. That's what one of the helpful crew members at our local TJs told me, and it is definitely true. Now I have enough for a month or two (30 packages, purchased at the TJ price of $.99 each) and when I run out, I can order more

I wonder if these could be made at home, and if that would be cost effective?

seaweed chips!

>Seaweed (and specifically nori, the kind usually used for seaweed snacks) is a cocktail of nutrients, including high levels of vitamins A and C, and calcium. Vegans can rejoice in the fact that it's one of the only natural, non-animal sources of vitamin B-12, which is essential for many cognitive and bodily functions. In addition, sea vegetables tout particularly high amounts of iodine, potassium, selenium, iron, and magnesium—unrivaled by land vegetables, as these minerals are especially concentrated in seawater. Better yet, all of this comes in a very low-calorie package: For example, one bag of SeaSnax's classic Olive Oil flavor has 16 percent and 8 percent of our daily recommended value of vitamins A and C, respectively, at a cost of just 50 calories. And that's for two servings.

Elle

It goes on to explain that you need to watch for added salt + other added ingredients. Look for one with a short list of ingredients.

u/Sidehothrowaway · 2 pointsr/proED

Seaweed snack chips. They're like salty nori paper. About 25 calories per packet and nice and salty so super satisfying. They're delicious and I love them. You can chew them for a while too so one packet lasts a while. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00BCG0OB6/ref=zg_bs_14864739011_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=PAS6YGXD6VFVGHXVCRAJ

Try these, not sure if you’re into seafood or not but my gf showed these to me and I’m absolutely addicted. Usually I’ll have a pack as breakfast but they are a great snack too, they taste great and the entire pack is only 100 calories. Plus there’s a bunch of different flavors.

Tomb Raider

TBH, I'm most familiar with it and the remake looks fantastic. I saw someone speedrun it and despite never getting into it, I found that I might play it myself sometime. Just a great remake.

American.

Maybe paper/non-screen entertainment things? I feel like I would get tired of looking a screen after a while if I were home for a month. Sudoku/crosswords, smutty romance novels, puzzles (if she's not bed-bound).

YMMV: I'm a snacker, especially when I'm bored, so I would need low-cal snacks and drinks on-hand to avoid eating waaaaay too much. Flavored seltzer water, roasted seaweed, gum. This will obviously super vary by person and it's possible that keeping weight on will be a concern for her, so maybe tread carefully.

Finally, another thing that's pretty ~personal~: ways to clean yourself that don't require showering (if that's something that might be difficult for her). Cleansing wipes and dry shampoo.

u/anyideas · 6 pointsr/xxfitness

Oh man, I'm the same way. A few of my go-tos:

  • kale chips, super easy to make, go crazy with the spices and stuff you put on it
  • seaweed snacks
  • easy soup I call "ramen without the ramen": heat up two or so cups of chicken broth, add some frozen veggies of your choice in there (I usually just go with the green beans/peas/carrots combo), then when it's hot, stir in one or two pre-beaten eggs. Easy, cheap, delicious, takes a long time to eat, low cal, filling
  • and this isn't particularly low-cal, but when I'm having an insatiable day, I find that whipping up a keto mug cake makes me feel full and surprisingly satisfied

You said you're not into raw foods, but another couple ones that I think are worth mentioning:

  • I found yogurt-based salad dressing at the grocery store which is WAY lower cal than regular fat-based dressing (like 40 cal per 2 tbsp vs 140 or more), so I'll whip up a humongous salad with any veggies I happen to have in the fridge and slather it with low cal deliciousness
  • sliced cucumbers with a little bit of salt gives me the salty and crunchy for a tasty snack. Could also dip those in the low cal dressing, too.

I love rice, and there is a ton you can do with rice. In addition to what other people have said. Here is a short list,

  • Chicken Stock (use instead of water to cook the rice)
  • Make Rice Balls (Japanese onigiri)
  • Dried seaweed (Snacking seaweed, you can buy and bulk and generally just goes well with white rice)
  • Make Rice Porridge (also known as jook or congee, you can get tons of different preserved vegetables and goods for this)
  • Pork Floss (Depending on budget)
  • Eggs (Depending on budget)
  • Rice seasoning (Japanese Furikake)
  • Different rice variants (fried rice, jambalaya, risotto, paella, etc)
  • Small seasonings go a long way, i.e. soy sauce, garlic ginger, onions, sesame oil, pepper, chili powder,

If you like seaweed, I have found that sheets of seaweed are a good snack. It's really a specific taste, though .. Soynuts and roasted chickpeas are also really good, if you want a break from nuts.

I like most brands though my family is a lot pickier.

It’s very thin but I fold it up to give it like a thin cracker crunch. My husband thinks I’m crazy but I’ve always enjoyed the taste.

Annie Chun’s Organic Seasalt Seaweed Snacks is one of my faves. I typically find them in my grocery store for $1/each sometimes less. They have other flavors but I haven’t tried them.

i always love these, my local asian market used to have them 3 /$1 in a multi pack, so that's a possibility?

u/crushsteffy · 1 pointr/Fitness

If you're looking for salty, try seaweed or nori "chips." They're little sheets of salted seaweed, and they make different flavors. They are extremely low cal and absolutely delicious, especially if you crave salty.

I don't know about Alaska specifically, but this kind of seaweed is a very popular snack at least in Hawai'i, and I assume in Polynesian and Asian communities in other areas.

u/sonyaellenmann · 13 pointsr/ketorecipes

Korean-style roasted seaweed, AKA nori. One package has about 1g carbs. They're good for a savory snack, sort of like an alternative to chips. Here are three kinds that I've tried, all tasty:

u/hishtafel · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I need seaweed snacks, because without them, I might turn in desperation to potato chips. I am almost at a record low weight here, but the potato chips... I hear them calling to me... YOU HAVE TO SAVE ME

u/carbinator · 1 pointr/keto

These the same thing? I've been wanting to give them a shot. I'm not strictly doing ketosis, but just looking for a nice assortment of low/no carb snacks.

u/thecapitalg · 2 pointsr/1200isplenty

Yup, the leafy stuff is baby spinach sauteed with 1 clove of garlic. I used a little sesame oil to flavor it before serving.

The bowl to the top right of the photo is mentsuyu which is typically served as a dipping sauce for soba. It's a mix of dashi (stock made from bonito and kombu, but I cheated and used Hondashi ) , soy sauce and mirin.

The tempura shrimp is [premade] (http://seapak.com/products/tempura-shrimp).

I also chopped 1 scallion and grated about 2 tsp of ginger (typically you'd grate fresh wasabi but I live in the states) which you would grab bits of with your noodle before dunking it in the mentsuyu.

The 'soba'/miracle noodles I rinsed thoroughly to get rid of the funk and soaked it in some ice water the entire duration I was prepping the rest of the food, roughly for 30 minutes. I then took 2 sheets from a roasted seaweed snack packs and cut them up to put on top of the drained noodles.

This is what zaru soba & tempura would typically look like if you ordered it at a restaurant. Soba on its own is a 'healthier' alternative to pasta as it is made from buckwheat, it has less calories and more protein and fiber, but since I only had a little under 300 calories left for yesterday's dinner, I went with the miracle noodles.

u/Jynxers · 3 pointsr/loseit

Seasweed snacks (like these) are a good low calorie, salty crunchy options.

At Chinese grocery stores in my area, I can usually find them in flavours like kimchi and wasabi.

u/InfinitySupreme · 1 pointr/AskCulinary

Thank you! Any idea how high Jayone Korean Seaweed might be in iodine? Their package doesn't say.

Seaweed. Man that stuff is addictive.
this is my favorite: http://amzn.com/B004WZ4EIS

Amazon had a deal on the Jayone 24-packs recently for $7 each which was an insane deal. I bought 4 boxes of 24 packs each. It looks like the 24-pack is $19 now.

People seem to like this brand that's a 16-pack for $12: https://www.amazon.com/Premium-Natural-Roasted-Seaweed-Calorie/dp/B01ECY8I1W/ref=sr_1_2_s_it?s=grocery&ie=UTF8&qid=1486751177&sr=1-2&keywords=roasted+seaweed

Ok, I'll add this here then (without the raffle phrase since I have that already in another post)

Try these seaweed snacks or maybe coconut bacon

You can get it in the Asian food section of your grocery store, trader joe's, and if you have an Asian supermarket, that works too. Also, I can get it at my local co-op.

Also, online like this

u/wgstenjuls · 9 pointsr/fatlogic

Have you tried nori? It's crunchy and salty and like 100 kcal for the entire package. I buy these at Costco but you can get them at regular grocery stores too.

u/innocuousremark · 1 pointr/fitmeals

I buy them on Amazon in bulk.

My emergency lunch is a can of sardines with a bag of roasted seaweed snacks (trader joe's version). I fold one sardine in each seaweed piece and make a little taco. The two things complement each other really well.

u/NonReligiousPopette · 3 pointsr/running

These. Iodine deficiency can cause fatigue, dry skin, depression, and other hypothyroid-y symptoms.

Most folks don't have to worry about it because it's in a table salt or cereals. But then some people don't use iodine table salt or eat enriched, processed foods so we've got to look elsewhere for it.

u/gump47371 · 1 pointr/keto

I got some of these in a deal a few weeks ago, but didn't really care of them alone.

However, today, I was snacking on some pepperoni, and put a piece between two pieces of pepperoni, and bingo, instant yumminess. Just the right amount of heat, and you don't get that 'chewing on grass' feeling that you get eating them alone.
