A few graphic novels:

  1. From Hell - Cerebral, philosophical, and fastidiously researched, this is the story of the most notorious of them all, Jack the Ripper. Masterful, somber drawings and brilliant writing, if a little too high brow for my taste.
  2. My Friend Dahmer - You won't find gore here, nor a particularly engaging plot. What you will find is authentic autobiographical vignettes written by an actual school mate of Jeffry Dahmer's that try to shed some light on the early years of this nefarious, but fascinating serial killer, but mostly seem to be an outlet for the author to process his own emotions with regards to having known and been friends with such a monster. It's not a very compelling read, i'm afraid, but on the bright side, it's quite short and the artwork is cool.
  3. The Green River Killer - An account of the investigation of the Green River murders, focusing on one of the lead detectives, who happens to be the author's father. Nice artwork, so-so plot.
  4. Miss Don't Touch Me - An absolutely delightful fictional novel that takes place in early 20th century Paris. It is fast-moving, suspenseful, sexy and hugely entertaining. Great artwork and a fun story. Highly recommended!

A couple more books that are on my wish list, though i haven't read them yet, are:

While I like the care you give to the subject, I would just like to fill in some cracks with a few resources. I have a background in AbPsych and one of my mentors did a lot of interesting work with real life psychopaths.

The baseline for psychopathy was first and best (so far) laid out by Robert Hare. This site has a nice explanation.

Two great books on the subject (non-fiction) are: The Anatomy of Evil and The Science of Evil. Something more in the popsci vein would also be Jon Ronson’s The Psychopath Test, though I have some personal qualms with Ronson’s view.

For fiction, there’s of course any of the works mentioned in the original post, as well as American Psycho and We Need to Talk about Kevin.

19 Crimes wine is very cool. Each bottle features a real person that was exiled to Australia. Their app allows your wine label to come alive with AR and tell their story.

I also received this Notorious Killer card game that’s pretty interesting and fun to play.

Or how about an adult coloring book?

Here's a copy of a comment I posted in another thread -

You might be interested in this thread. This digital archive about Palmyra Atoll is run by u/wozwas and they post some really interesting photos and info there and over on r/hawaii about the atoll. You should check this thread out, too.

And here's a comment from u/wozwas about this case -

"FYI, while Bugliosi's book is the first published and by far the most popular, it's far from the most accurate. There have since been several other books published showing he was using the case primarily for fame and wealth, and the woman he represented in the case was far from innocent, and should have been convicted. He also paints a very inaccurate picture of Palmyra's history (the place where the murders took place), something that personally bothers me the most.

If you're interested, I'd highly recommend reading The Final Argument, which is a much better work on the events and conclusions of the murders. Happy to answer any questions you have on Palmyra as well, I'm heading there in a few days to do some historical research for the Nature Conservancy, but hopefully I don't find the second body!"

It's from this thread.

Edit: On mobile and submitted too soon.

My Friend Dahmer. I am currently reading this and it is awesome!

Thanks for the contest. Have a great flight!

Depraved was really good. Did a good job at slowly but surely showing what a monster he was. Not read The Devil in White City so I can't compare, but I really enjoyed this one [?!]

I also enjoyed this book about a despicable human being who killed his entire family to protect the outrageous lies that were his life. It has an unusual writing style but it certainly creeped me out...

This isn’t a podcast, but Paul Holes and some others made an exclusive audiobook for audible about GSK. Here’s the link: https://www.amazon.com/Evil-Has-Name-Untold-Investigation/dp/B07H7RYQ5P. You can listen to it for free if you get an audible free trial.

Am home, and therefore at swimming trying to watch LittleBit do backstroke while the woman with massive head blocks the window and ignores her son, age approx 4, as he and his little friend yell via iPad (the friend isn't here) at the top of their lungs with no sodding headphones. I'm not hungover, but it's still making my head hurt (and I was enjoying a gloriously headache free day until then).

However, this is the book that I mentioned to you the other day.

I have no earthly clue what is going on this morning, I've lost the ability to insert a hyperlink. Sorry

read a book called 'they all love Jack'

https://www.amazon.co.uk/They-All-Love-Jack-Busting/dp/006229637X

I've read most of the ripper books over the years...and this one is different...worth reading for the whole picture it paints of Victorian London alone but I also think it's nailed it as regards the identity of Jack and answers pretty much all of the questions surrounding the case.

u/TheHoundsOFLove · 2 pointsr/indieheads

Nope but I've read that one too. This is by Bruce Robinson and while so far he hasn't suggested who it is (He still has half the book!), he's pretty funny about shitting on other people's theories.

u/meatball_sando · 2 pointsr/CrimeScene

This story is covered in a great book called Killer on the Road, which explores how the US highway system has impacted and influenced crime. I really enjoyed it, although it meanders a bit.

i can do, thank you, this is the link to it, i'm called Steph Young (https://www.amazon.com/investigation-Horrifying-Smiley-Killers-Serial-ebook/dp/B01G0SWK0I) & altho the title says "The Smiley Face Killers," it is a serious investigation into many of these cases and possible suspects. Thank you.

I think you should check out Evil Has a Name, it's fantastic!

u/JackRanger88 · -2 pointsr/UnresolvedMysteries

Looking forward. Followed this case for a long time. Heard researcher Steph Young on youtube, then i read her book on a lot of connected "drowning" cases & it chilled me to my core. There are SO many & she made a lot of real disturbing connections. Seriously man this is creepier than many people realize https://www.amazon.com/investigation-Horrifying-Smiley-Killers-Serial-ebook/dp/B01G0SWK0IJenkins's is one of the ONLY ones they made a homicide. Is his connected to the others? idk but they should give his Mom justice and keep at it. I always wondered was his connected to Jacob Wetterling

I'm not sure if this is insensitive or not, but this is a cool book

You should check out Killer on the Road. And pay off your library card, they need the money!

OK I see 2 of my favorites on this list so here are a couple of more. While most folks don't seem to base their fiction on any one serial killer there is a lot of good serial killer fiction out there.

Barry Lyga has two books out in his I Hunt Killers series. Not bad for YA books since the YA genre has come a long long way since I was a kid

Tim Dorsey is my go to guy for serial killer fun. His Serge Storm series is 14 books strong with no end in sight. Funny brutal and you will learn more about Florida than you will ever want to know.

Jeff Jensen Did a really good Graphic Novel last year about the Green River Killer. His dad was one of the lead detectives on the case so there is a lot of personal insight in this book not seen elsewhere.
