SAFETY
Safety is a pretty massive issue in longboarding, especially when you're a beginner. Don't be dumb, wear a helmet. It's cheaper than the hospital bills, I promise.
At first, feel free to just use whatever you can get your hands on - my first couple of weeks skating was with my mountain bike helmet! ^^#SWAG
However, unless you want to look as cool as me for that first few weeks, get a...

HALF SHELL HELMET!
There's tonnes of these out there, and each will name their innovations with funky names and cool logos. In the end, though, the most important thing is what will protect your noggin the best - and that means getting an EPS foam helmet. Look for "CPSC", "ASTM" and "Dual Certified" lids - they've been rigorously tested.
Below is a list of certified half-shell helmets.
^Note: ^Most ^of ^these ^are ^linked ^to ^ChainReactionCycles, ^a ^biking ^site. ^It's ^often ^worth ^checking ^cycling ^stores ^for ^'dirt ^jump' ^lids, ^as ^they're ^exactly ^the ^same ^as ^skate ^helmets, ^and ^can ^be ^cheaper!

SLIDE GLOVES
Slide gloves are a pretty awesome bit of kit, and can really boost your confidence levels - Plus, you need them for Coleman slides.
Below is a list of premade slide gloves, but first, consider making your own! You can even just buy the pucks, and attach them to your own gloves bought from a hardware store.
However, if you're not very DIY-minded, here's a list of premade gloves - all of which include pucks.

KNEEPADS
Let's face it. Knees suck. They're absolutely amazing, biology-wise, but they're one of the most fragile pieces of our body - and if you don't know already, it's only a matter of time until you find out that falling on your knees is really easy on a longboard.
Hard kneepads will allow you to bail out of most falls, and just slide to a stop while kneeling - pretty nifty.
If you only want to go slow, consider some G-Form pads - but know that if you bail and slide on them, they're gonna get cheese-grated.
If you think there's a chance you'll fall on your knees while going faster, look at some of these below:

Once again, this guide isn't designed to be comprehensive. There's hundreds of skate brands out there, all clamouring for your attention - and most of them are good - so shop around, do your research and try as many boards as your local shop/friends will let you!
I'm gonna go skate now - see ya!
Keep it sideways,

I ordered the Bern Brentwood helmet and had the Triple 8 Brainsaver with Sweat liner helmet. I got it used (like-new) for 40$, the same price as a new Triple 8, so if you stalk amazon used you could definitely find one for 40$. Also, Used-Like New for the helmet I bought meant it was never worn and returned immediately because it looked brand new to me and it came with the original box and some Bern stickers.
Best part of the Bern Brentwood helmet is that it is ASTM F2040, CPSC and EN1078 Certified. TRIPLE CERTIFICATION FTW! Protect your knoggin.
BTW, Bern Brentwood runs small so order 2 sizes up from what you would normally order (Ex. if you order a M order a XL)

Depends on what style, weight and price range you want to be in:
helmets designed for skateboarding and action sports don't have that weird thick layer of hard foam. That shit is hot and uncomfy. When I was a kid, I had one, because was the department store standard.
I have the pro-tec classic helmet (which admittedly I don't use, but I bought one just to have one, I'm 28 and started skating at 11, no brakes) it's snug light. It cups the head well and doesn't feel like it'll fall off without if its unbuckled. Take a look at the interiors of each helmet and tell me which one you think looks like a better fit. Pink helmet vs Protec Helmet
I am almost sure that pink helmet will sit on top of your head and provide no protection
40$-55$ for a helmet may seem like a bit much, but it's worth it in the long run. Just don't leave it at the park. Also, if you can, go to one of those mega sporting goods stores, and try on some helmets. To know your size and get an idea for how they feel.... then just buy it online for cheaper
If you don't understand something, don't be afraid to ask!
I was searching for the post that explaind helmets and haven't found it yet but did follow links to this $19.99 helmet on amazon that appears to be suitable, for anyone who lands here after searching the sub for helmet info or for OP or whoever it might help.
I haven't tried it and don't know anything about it. Just saying, at first glance, looks suitable.

this also appears to come in the standard range of head sizes and looks suitable at first glance. just please be sure to read more, I haven't -

for those in need of a good full face at a good price
What accessories should I buy now to have when my BBV2 comes in?
I've already got the Triple 8 Brainsaver helmet but what are some good options for a wall-mount, backpack that can carry the board, etc?
You mean like this?
I'm sure a skateboard helmet will look as close as possible. Just cover the logos.
A lot of people have questioned me with my Triple8 full-face downhill helmet while riding my Boosted, but in cases like this your face would definitely would not have any road rash. https://www.amazon.com/Triple-8-Downhill-Racer-Helmet/dp/B007N0PHSK
Are these good for sliding practice?

Triple 8 Brainsaver, Wristsaver, Kneesaver, Elbowsaver, Asssaver... (That's a real thing btw.)
This isn’t a replacement for a full set of knee pads, wrist guards, knee pads etc. However I just nose dived at very high speeds on pavement, and these pieces of gear plus a good tuck and roll let me walk away with just a few scratches.

It's the same or very similar version of the Triple8 the OP posted. After the comments here, I checked Amazon and turns out Triple8 has a newer version that is certified which looks very similar and sells for $45. Should be arriving tomorrow.

Here is S1's full line of face masks (not sure what your price range is, but full face are much more expensive):http://shop.s1helmets.com/lifer-fullface/
Cheapest fullface I would reccommend: https://www.amazon.com/Triple-8-Downhill-Racer-Helmet/dp/B007CMDPQU?th=1&psc=1
I would reccommend going with just an S1 Lifer, as full face masks are tended more towards downhill where you would go 30+ mph.
I got a triple8 helmet (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007CMDRV8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) but I don't know if it's worse than others, as I have not yet fallen badly and bumped my head hard against the floor or anything like that. Also, I got this (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000DZIK1/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) for wrist guard, they had a package with elbow and knee guard, but I didn't get that one, and got just the wristguard.

I rock the Triple 8 Sweatsaver (https://www.amazon.com/Triple-Eight-Helmet-Sweatsaver-Rubber/dp/B007CMDS6M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1501821586&sr=8-1&keywords=triple+8+brainsaver) and a set of Bullet pads (http://www.skatewarehouse.com/Bullet_Adult_Safety_Set_knee_elbow_wrist/descpage-BUASSG.html)
This so I don't splatter my brain everywhere when I bail longboarding.
Fullface Deals
Man gear in Canada is expensive. Fuck. I ain't even getting one, but maybe someone's been holding out for a decent deal.
No worries, our brains are something worth obsessing over. This whole ordeal reminded me of how fragile our minds and bodies really are. I grew up biking and skating and never had an accident like this. Here is the helmet I use, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007CMDS6M?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00
I was also wearing jeans and a hoodie and gloves. I need to go back to the place of the accident and check out the sidewalks, lighting, etc. to see if something could have been a major factor. I haven't been back on the board yet but I powered it up and ran it upside down and everything looks and sounds normal.
Sadly not. I was wearing this.
https://www.amazon.com/JBM-Ventilation-Multi-Sports-Skateboarding-Rollerblading/dp/B01HNYZNXY/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?keywords=skateboard+helmet&qid=1566521550&s=gateway&sprefix=skateboard+h&sr=8-4#aw-udpv3-customer-reviews_feature_div
I learned my lesson. Nothing less than a motorcycle helmet from now on.
You seem rather accident prone, brother. Might I suggest one of these, before it is too late.
I think it's this one but I could be wrong op would know

> legislation that doesn’t work
But how do we know it doesn't work if we never try it?
> because after the next tragedy you’ll just ask for more
Yes, that's how it works. When the current system doesn't work (aka kids are getting killed), you change it until it does works (aka kids stop getting killed).
> until we get like one bullet a month or something.
Here, you might need this on that slippery slope you're falling down.
> there are systems in place to stop massacres but they are too busy chasing drugs.
Yes, we need to stop the failed war on drugs and focus on real issues.
Dat bowling ball helmet look, tho. Not going to lie, that padding looks comfy af. Have you worn it out on a hot day yet? Wondering if it might cause your head to overheat.
Edit:
Is this something to be concerned about? I wasn't going to share this with you, because you already bought your helmet, but I'd feel kind of bad if you got into an accident and I didn't say something.
