I posted this in another thread but hope it helps you:

I had my hemithyroidectomy done 2 weeks ago and had never been under general anesthesia before so was also concerned. Pre-op, they gave me a gown, robe, skid-proof socks to wear, put in my IV. I was able to put my curly hair up in a top knot with a silk scrunchie (no metal) so it didn't tangle (listen its the small stuff!). I was walked to the OR (it's not like on TV!), give a hair net to put on, greeted all the surgical staff and then laid myself down on the table (again - SO WEIRD!). The anesthesiologist gave me an IV "cocktail" which felt like I had one too many drinks and then I was out. I came to when I was wheeled into recovery and complained about being woken from a REALLY good sleep ;)

The surgery itself was not nearly as bad as I thought it to be (and you read a lot of the negative experiences here). My voice is fine, my parathyroids are fine and I feel so much better than I did before. As someone else stated, the sore throat is 100% the worst bit of all of it. I didn't have to stay overnight but I only had my right side removed but I wasn't sure if I would go home so things I recommend:

- Have some good numbing cough lozenges (I had Cepacol: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01FWS60RG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) or throat spray (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004L4XC3I/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and keep chewing ice, it'll help.

- Do not be afraid to ask for the good drugs from the nurse - it'll help to sleep a lot of the time.

- Wear comfy clothes. I was able to dress myself and lift my arms up to put things on (but they were super easy stretchy & loose clothes) but my sister had to help tie my laces as bending down wasn't as easy.

- Get some PJs that button down: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0772S54GH/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

- Comfy slippers/skid-proof socks: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M24S9OF/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

- Comfy pillow to prop yourself up for the first few days - its easier to sleep sitting up higher as there's less pressure on your neck. I could sleep lying flat and on my side after 4-5 days.

- An ice pack that can stay strapped around your neck. I wrapped mine in a pillowcase first then used a velcro hair band to keep it in place. I got this from Amazon (so it can be used cold or hot): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CHLS3B3/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

- Silicone scar sheets for post-op (I can use them in about 4-5 weeks post-op): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07P5G9PQD/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

- If you're a woman, I got these front close bras so I wouldn't have to lift my arms: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07KKVLP2D/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

- A good thick lip balm. I like this one from Laniege but honestly anything you like will do: https://www.amazon.com/LANEIGE-Sleeping-Berry-Treatment-Qunce/dp/B00VR0Z0I4/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=laneige&qid=1571934520&sr=8-1

- I took my Vicodin, Stool Softener (yeeeep it can cause constipation) with 1 Aleve (it's not acetaminophen) for the 1st 5 days at night only to ease my sleep but I didn't need pain meds after that.

Outside of sleeping a lot (recovering from surgery will do that), I was back to eating well chewed solids on the 3rd day post-surgery but that will all be on personal preference. You won't be able to shower for at least 48 hours so make sure to do that morning of if you can.

Most of all - good luck! You will be OK and the relief from having it out will be well worth it. I haven't had my bloodwork done yet to determine whether or not I will need medication (I know you will since its a TT) but that'll be the tricky part from what I've read. Feel free to PM me if you have more questions!

I buy soooo much on Amazon. Here are some of my tips:

  • Once you narrow down enough within a department/category, there's a checkbox on the sidebar that says "Top Brands." Check that to eliminate most cheap overseas retailers.

  • I also only buy Prime, unless it's a brand/product I'm familiar with (I buy a certain brand of tee-shirt and they're rarely available through Prime). One way around this is that some products are available in some colors through Prime. So you can order that, try it on, and then return it and (if you liked it) order it without Prime shipping in the color you wanted.

  • Use the rows of products labeled "people also bought" or whatever they're called. Scroll through there.

  • If something's on 6pm.com, you can often find it on Amazon with free return shipping. Conversely, if you're willing to pay full price for something, look for it in Zappos, because they have a much longer return period (a year!). If I think I like something but can't decide, I'll return it to Amazon and buy it from Zappos, then keep the tags on until I make up my mind one way or another.

  • This is new but awesome -- when you're returning things, Amazon now has an option to return multiple orders in one box. That has saved me the agony of carrying eight separate UPS packages. On this note, if you're buying/returning a lot, keep the big boxes.

  • Be really careful buying designer bags. I'd say that probably 1/3 of the designer purses I've ordered have shown signs of being counterfeit. Much better to go with Zappos, Nordstrom, Macys, etc. if you're looking for something high end. That said, you can sometimes find amazing deals on certain colors of bags. I've bought purses before that were $300 in most colors and $100 in cognac. But those are brands I know well enough to recognize a knock-off.

  • If you have very small feet, you can find incredible deals on shoes.

  • The best way to look for really good deals if you're just browsing, or for something like running shoes or bras where you don't care that much about the color, is to sort by lowest offer. To do that, look for the link on the right of the screen (in the "other sellers" section) that says "New from $45.00." Not all products have this link, but you can usually find it on one color or another. Here's a product that has that link. Then you can pick the size you want and from the color drop-down menu, click "sort by lowest offer." Then make sure you select "Prime" on the side and also "New." It will give you a list of the different colors with the lowest prices at the top. I use this for high-end bras where I just like the design but don't care about color. Also good for backpacks etc. where there are a billion colors.

  • If you browse a lot, you'll get a feel for the brands that have really good deals. I have great luck with Lucky, NYDJ, Guess, CK, Michael Kors, Natori. Evergreen brands like Birkenstock and Toms are rarely worth it in my experience, because they don't discount deeply (but the shipping is often convenient). The key is (as ever) not to buy something you don't love just because it's a good deal.

  • Stay on top of your returns. Don't let the 30 days go by and end up owning something you hate. Keep the products in their bags and keep the boxes until you know you want to keep something. The "return by" date is the day the UPS label has to be logged into the system. So if something needs to be returned by May 6, you have until May 6 to get it to the UPS store. Get a receipt.

  • Also, don't keep something you don't really like just because it was deeply discounted and it doesn't seem "worth" returning. Free returns are there for you. You might as well pack up that shirt and get $7 back instead of keeping it and feeling yuck about it.

This is so nice of you!

I saw someone mention a nice robe. I got a lightweight robe. This one is nice because the tie is attached. I basically just wore a nursing bra and granny panties and the robe for the first few weeks and it was nice not having to squeeze into real clothes.

My hospital provided a belly band thing that was covered by insurance, but I thought it was very uncomfortable and never wore it.

What was really helpful was having a small pillow around to hold against the incision for coughing, laughing, pooping, etc. If she doesn't have one she wants to use, a small, soft throw pillow might be useful for this. Especially if it has a removable cover, because milk/poop/spit up get on everything.

Freezer meals were a godsend for us. Crockpot freezer meals for dinners, and we made a bunch of breakfast burritos and froze them too. Really yummy, satisfying one handed meal. Trail mix was also a really good food to have on hand. I had little Tupperware containers scattered around wherever I might be with the baby so I always had something to munch on.

A house cleaning could be extremely helpful.

Good luck to your friend! And kudos to you for doing such a nice gift!

u/YesILeftHisAss2398 · 3 pointsr/NarcissisticAbuse

>Through the process of leaving my abusive narc ex, I have learned a lot about myself. Each day is a new opportunity to grow and change. Now that I understand my patterns a little better, it is possible to move forward in a different direction. An almost crippling loneliness used come over me when I was out of abusive relationships. In fact, in the past there have only been a few months separating 3 year long stints with narcissistic men. Even though I know this, my brain and body are starting to get distracted by the urge to connect with someone. This is clearly a time to put emphasis into self care and school. I shouldn't really be dating for at least a year if not longer. That doesn't stop that part of me from crying out. Now that I am single with a new level of self esteem and confidence, people are starting to notice. The attention is flattering but it is important to remember my goals and dreams. If I give myself away to another destructive cycle, it will only further deepen the pain. I want to be stronger than this energy. The young woman in me feels like she's been hiding under a rock for years.

This is an amazing paragraph. So nice to read. So nice to hear. So glad to hear. Sounds pretty kick arse to me. Yes ma'am. Definitely kick arse indeed.

>Today I almost missed him a little even though most of the time the relationship was full of negativity. He didn't lash out all of the time but I was always on edge waiting for it to happen.

Is this really missing him specifically, or missing a connection, a partner? When you have your empathy turned up to high, you want a place for it to go, you know? Its best to turn it down some. It sounds awful, but for safety and boundaries, being super empathetic can put a target on your forehead. You can be empathetic, have boundaries, and have good defenses and confrontation skills. You just need them all together first. Maybe turn that on yourself, date yourself. Buy yourself some new DRAWERS or some new socks.

>It seems like I apologized a ton because the first thing that people told me when I started getting out into the world was to stop apologizing for things that were out of my control. It just feels like it is my fault somehow or there was something that could have been done to prevent it. This comes from years of wounding from my alcoholic mother. No matter what I did, I could not stop her from destroying herself and abusing me.

Well, you have FOG (fear, obligation and guilt) at play here. Apologizing for other peoples unhappiness or issues when they arent your fault. Pretty common, especially if you have people pleasing tendencies. And you probably would with your trying to please and placate your Mom both to help her (being the adult even as a kid and taking care of her instead of her being your adult parent) and its even a defensive mechanism to protect yourself by preemptively meeting the abusers emotional and physical needs.

Its quite a lot to deal with. And the layers pile on top of each other, dont they. It takes time to work through it all. It didnt happen overnight, and it wont be resolved over night. So be kind to yourself. Give yourself time. You deserve it. And dont forget to stop and smell the roses. You have already done some fantastic work. Do something to mark that achievement. Those underoos wont buy themselves.

I've got you on this one! Make her the best gift basket ever.

  1. First, you start with a [basket] (http://www.amazon.com/Winco-PWBN-12B-Rectangular-Handles-12-Inch/dp/B001PZBFC6/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1415745615&sr=8-5&keywords=basket), of course. Alternatively, you can brave Walmart to find a cheaper one.
  2. You mentioned Victoria's Secret? Then load that basket up with a [gift card] (https://www.victoriassecret.com/gifts/gift-cards/gift-card?ProductID=168487&CatalogueType=OLS). That way she can pick out something that she wants/needs.
  3. Next, get her a [coffee mug] (http://www.amazon.com/Coffee-Sweater-Knitted-Removable-Knitwork/dp/B00HQ231IS/ref=sr_1_4?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1415745900&sr=1-4&keywords=cute+coffee+mug). I don't know what your wife likes, so I picked a pretty neutral one. You could get her something with her favorite animal on it.
  4. Alternatively, you could get her a travel thermos so she could take her coffee/tea/whatever she drinks on the go. [Tervis tumblers] (http://www.tervis.com/products/Storefront/24/38a4ba519358b40af7548fbf928f408f) are pricey, but wonderful, and will keep her drink hot or cold for hours. There are even fields that you can narrow down on the left hand side of the Tervis link I sent, since there are literally thousands of them and finding the right one can be overwhelming.
  5. Next, find her favorite coffee or tea or drink and put it in there to go with the cup.
  6. Then, find a pair of pajamas in her size that she can curl up in at night. Is it cold where you live? [Go with a pair with pants.] (http://www.amazon.com/Del-Rossa-Womens-Cotton-Flannel/dp/B00BJOGONI/ref=sr_1_3?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1415746160&sr=1-3&keywords=pajamas) Hot? [Go for the shorts.] (http://www.amazon.com/District-Elastic-Drawcord-Flannel-Black/dp/B00IMX92EC/ref=sr_1_2?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1415746213&sr=1-2&keywords=pajama+shorts)
  7. Finally, find something special to you and her. Where did you go on your first date? Where is her favorite restaurant? Make a "date night" card good for one trip to that restaurant whenever she wants to go.

I hope this helps! It's a good way to get her a bunch of gifts at once, and you can easily keep it under $100. Let me know if you need any more help :) My number is 867-5309

A different perspective: if you like wearing shorts but you also need protection for your legs, there are good options for individual problems:

SUN:

If you are just worried about sun protection, get some cheep cotton pajamas, bar non the best, most comfortable sun protection. Just dont expect these to provide warmth or dry fast. Also slow drying cotton is great for getting wet at a water source to keep you cool for you next miles.

Sun Protection in the Desert: https://www.amazon.com/CYZ-Womens-Cotton-Pajama-Pants-VoileSilverStripe-L/dp/B076F8TMRD/ref=sr_1_15?dchild=1&keywords=pajama+bottoms+cotton&psc=1&qid=1571767226&sr=8-15 $12.00

WIND:

https://www.amazon.com/Body-Wrappers-Ripstop-Pants-Black/dp/B0002UR7SQ/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=dance+pants+nylon&psc=1&qid=1571767509&sr=8-1 $18.00

Enlightened Equipment and Montbell make good ones too.

COLD:

Leggings/tights/long underwear. Pretty self explanatory, many many brands available.

https://www.amazon.com/Cuddl-Duds-ClimateRight-Underwear-Leggings/dp/B077T671HN $25.00

If your worried about scratchies / are doing a decent amount of bushwacking then your going to want some hiking pants like the author listed.

u/bluebonnetcafe · 2 pointsr/beyondthebump

If you have one nearby, I’d suggest trying the h&m nursing tanks. They’re very stretchy and comfortable.

As for the hospital, I most appreciated bringing my own bath sheet in a dark color (in case you get blood on it) because the hospital towels were scratchy and tiny.

Clothes were a big thing. I packed PJ bottoms but never wore them because the nurses were regularly checking my pad to make sure my bleeding down there wasn’t excessive (plus I had a C-section incision), and it made changing my pad and using the squirt bottle to clean myself after peeing much easier. So I got a dress, and Since I was pumping, I wanted a breastfeeding top as well. I bought two of these and could have used more since they were literally all I wore: Motherhood Twist Front Clip Down Nursing Nightgown https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004QB7N9K/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_Dt0aAbCHP64KH
I like the twist front one because there are some extra layers over the chest so you couldn’t see my nipples underneath. And the fabric is very soft and comfy. Oh, and if you get a C-section, ask for as many extra mesh panties to take home as possible. Regular fabric panties suck when you have an incision.

A robe you can throw on in case you want to leave the room or if you’re cold. They should provide you with nonslip socks.

Make sure to pack enough hair ties!

My husband also brought Gatorade which was really nice. Breastfeeding makes you super thirsty.

Finally, we brought two enormous bags of candy, one each for the antepartum and postpartum nurses. Certainly not necessary but a nice way of showing appreciation.

u/CatsnNoodles · 1 pointr/incest

Appreciate your input! Sounds like a good idea, actually.

We were talking the other day. She was complaining that she felt old and unattractive. I told her that she is more beautiful now than she was 10 years ago and that I, and many other men, find mature women more attractive etc.

I was thinking about borrowing her laptop one day (gonna tell her mine is malfunctioning), search for mature porn, women that look like her and so on, and "forget" to delete the browser history. She will definitely see it because she is very careful with her computer.

I will absolutely update. I don't know if you have read my comments about me ignoring her for so long? I'm probably going to have to work on that for a pretty long time before I do something I cannot undo. Wanna do this right.

She is opening up more and more, though. Today she sent me 3 pictures of her when I was out. I told her I have a very attractive mother.

Thanks again, mate.

Edit:

The woman in this picture looks a lot like my mother. See what I have to live with? Lol.

Ooooooh, a SPA hotel! Okay, that makes a lot more sense.

Some ideas:

  1. Hiking -- Painted rocks. Paint one side green or something noticeable and set them up a few days before your hike with her along the trail. When you start, tell her that you have a surprise set up for her and there are clues on painted rocks she will find along the trail. I'm thinking that when she turns each rock over (opposite the green side), it will have a degree, minute, or second coordinate from the lat and long. So basically, as she is collecting them, she's just going to see a clue that is 34' or 21.5''. Even after she's figured out the lat/long, she'll probably have to wait to get home or when you're back in cell service to enter them in and see where you're taking her.

  2. Buy a pair of nice matching fancy robes (something like this but maybe not as expensive: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M35H36K/) When she opens the box, you can have a picture of the spa facilities at the hotel (that doesn't identify the place) you're going to tucked into the robe. Then when she looks confused, you can tell her you've planned the weekend getaway.

  3. A bit boring but still mysterious would be to just tell her to save that weekend for a surprise getaway trip. She won't know where she's going until you arrive.

  4. Make a mini-relaxation gift basket or spa-in-a-jar type gift like this: https://www.thegunnysack.com/spa-in-jar-diy-valentines-day-gift-in/ In addition to the at-home spa items, also place a rolled up fancy picture of the hotel and tie it with ribbon (so it looks like a scroll). Under the picture you can write, "when you just need a little more relaxation than the at-home spa..." and then put the information about the hotel you're going to, with the dates underneath that. So first she will just think that it's a really cute thoughtful gift on its own but then as she goes through the contents of the jar, she will find out about the trip.

  5. This one is a bit harder - does she take baths at your home? If so, you can make or buy a "bath bomb" with a message inside. Basically, when it melts in the bath, there's a tiny ball or bottle inside with a message about where you're going. Etsy sells a lot of these https://www.etsy.com/market/message_bath_bomb -- specific one (https://www.etsy.com/listing/506197043/custom-message-in-a-bottle-bath-bomb).

  1. this bed just looks so damn comfortable. Like you could just fall into it.

  2. graham crackers and milk are so tasty and great for a midnight snack!

  3. these adorable sleeping cat pajamas even have matching slippers.

  4. I personally prefer the dark, but this looks like a beautiful night light to fall asleep to, especially for anyone who likes the ocean.

  5. if the baby shusher doesn't work, play the baby some 80's music

“She used to say she could taste sleep and that it was as delicious as a BLT on fresh French bread.”

    Thanks for the contest!
u/LittlestMermaid · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

1 - This bed looks like it should be the most comfy thing in the world, mostly because it looks like it belongs in a room with big open French doors that lead to the ocean with long flowing white drapes everywhere.

2 - I have a bad habit of eating Peanut M&Ms in bed. They make such a good snack for while I'm reading myself to sleep.

3 - These pajamas have the classic design with the trim, and there's bonus cute little swans on them!

4 - Because I'm a five year old at heart, I find this Mickey nightlight to be completely adorable, plus it looks like you can take him with you if you need to get up in the middle of the night.

5 - The kids I babysit ranging in ages from baby to 7 years old have always used little toys like this to help them fall asleep. I've been tempted on more than one occasion to buy one for myself because they're so calming.

Bonus - I'm going to guess Panda?

She used to say she could taste sleep and that it was as delicious as a BLT on fresh French bread.

This isn't what you asked and I don't know what your budget is, but I got one of these robes from Amazon and it's so hard to not wear it yet. It fits pretty much exactly as I expected and it so smooth. So smooth, in fact, that I'm probably going to have to safety pin it closed cuz it kept trying to slide open when I tried it on XD But other than that, I love it! So perhaps this might work as an alternative :)

u/uhhhshrek · 2 pointsr/BabyBumps

After my c section I lived in these pajamas and ones similar to them. These ones in particular are super soft and the bottoms are a higher rise so I was able to have them above my belly button while still covering my butt cheeks completely. The waist band is elastic but also has a draw string in case you need them tighter. The button down top is perfect if you're nursing/pumping. I've had them since early August and wash them weekly and they haven't shrunk and the button holes for the top are still tight, which is nice because the ones I got from Target won't stay buttoned anymore. I'm 5 ft 3 in and weighed 180 after birth and got the XL. I would also recommend high rise underwear. Your hospital will give you mesh panties but get some underwear for when those run out. Congratulations on your baby. You got this mama!

I definitely have one of these already. It's too long, and too small in the bust, but I can make it work, lol. I also have this when I've got the courage (and the freshly-waxed girlyzone) to wear it.

I DO love kimono robes, but I was thinking more like this for inspiring or post sexy-times. That or just stealing a button-down shirt from him. Those are hands-down the sexiest bathrobes a woman can wear, haha!

Fancy, fancy!

Those are all really good ideas! Definitely get you some of those effortlessly sexy bathing suit cover ups for walking along the beach at night. Like the slightly see through flowy ones?

These are pretty fancy too, if you want something to throw on for walking around the house after sexy times! (or yknow. too entice sexy times)

Girl. There is this robe. I am wearing it right now. It is SUPER thick plush, nice and long (it hits me about 6" below the knee and I'm 5'10"), and has a fantastic hood. It is the warmest thing I've ever found. Yes, you will draw attention to yourself. No, you will not give a fuck, because you will feel sooooo cozy. You must have one. This is it. It may not look like much, but sweet jesus is it warm and wonderful. FYI, this is also it. It's a unisex robe - the sizes are the same, and this gives you more color options.

u/mandymoore1969 She's so kind and we're both music lovers and nerds. And I really enjoy how positive she is. And bonus points cuz she's going back to counselling (as am I) for learning to self love again.

She needs this from her Clothing wishlist cuz its comfy and divine.

Definitely need this for my bedroom. JK

While I am far too shy to not be the person buying myself anything sexy timey, I'd love to wear this and float around my apartment smoking cigars and drinking champagne while Frank Sinatra croons on vinyl, leaving my boyfriend agape with my beauty and grace.

/u/unicorndanceparty's list means business. Lelo is a great brand of toys. For everyone with cheaper penetrative toys on your lists - BE CAREFUL OF SHITTY MATERIALS!! Dildos, vibes, etc. that aren't made of the right silicone can be horrible for your body! Some are even carcinogens! Please google thoroughly and spend the extra money for healthy orgasms.

I normally use boxers and a tshirt at my boyfriends house (same issues with roommates) but I had to switch to a nightgown after spending some time with my leg in a cast--getting any sort of pants on was too much of a process for a bathroom trip. I bought this one off Amazon because it was cheap, cute, and getting to the store with crutches wasn't going to happen. I really like it. The quality is good for the price, and it fits true to size. I'm still wearing it even though I can wear pants easily now!

Victoria's Secret is having their annual sale, so they might have some options on a deep discount.

Something like a slip and [silky robe] (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B008BVIYOO/ref=twister_B008BVIYC6?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1) is more my speed for lingerie.

When my bf and I first started dating, we unintentionally planned our third date, out to a nice but not super fancy restaurant, for Valentine's Day. It was adorably awkward. We'll probably go back to the same place for our fourth Valentine's Day :-)

I have this one! I brought it with me to the hospital when my last baby was born and it was great. Super soft and covered me up well. Was so much comfier than a hospital gown. It’s not super thick or long though I’d definitely still wear pants but it’s T-shirt material instead of fluffy.
