I have a basic digital food scale from Walmart. No idea what brand, I just like them to be digital and weigh in both ounces and grams, and have a rare feature (that allows you to place an empty container on the scale and then reset the weight to zero before you add ingredients so that you don't have to do that math manually).
I started out converting my recipes into oz. but I ran into two problems: my scale only read two decimals, and it rounded to the nearest .05 oz. For improved accuracy, I've switched to grams and have been much happier. I only weigh items that would normally be measured by cups, like flour and sugar. Things that are measured in tsp. or tbsp. I leave alone because those weights are negligible anyway. I place a mixing bowl onto the food scale and just dump my flours and sugars directly from the package into the bowl to weigh, so I end up using fewer dishes and making less mess. After weighing, I just dump each ingredient into the mixer and stir. It takes a few minutes to switch your brain over to this system, but I absolutely believe it's worth it.
It's also really easy to scale recipes up or down by nearly any amount-for instance, I have one recipe that uses canned pumpkin, but it calls for something like 2 oz. more pumpkin than is in a standard can, so I used to open two cans and discard the remainder because it was very difficult to figure out how to scale the recipe up when some ingredients were divisible by 1/4 cups and others by 1/3. When measuring by weight, I can easily adjust the recipe to use either a single can of pumpkin or two cans by multiplying all my ingredient weights by either .83 or 1.33 respectively.
I doubt silicone mats would work to line cake pans, as you can't cut them and you would need it to cover the sides of the pan to really be effective. However, there are tons of options for silicone baking pans. Here's just one example from Amazon. I've never used these for baking, but I do have a cupcake pan and a mini loaf pan that I use for freezing things like homemade chicken stock, herbs in oil, etc. and have been very happy with them. They aren't as slick as the baking mats so you may still need to oil them-that would be something to research before diving in.

If this is true, then those mats that restrict the spread are a good thing, right? I've heard they're not good because you don't get good "feet" with them.
I really don't know much about macs - an online friend turned me on to them. He's wild about the ones from Poppies in Belgium. They had them as a spot item here in Denmark for a week in July and I was pretty impressed with them, but I don't know if that's how they really are supposed to taste. Personally I like my homemade ones better, because they taste more like almond and they're chewier, but are they supposed to be that way? Someone on here complained because their first try tasted too much like almond flour, but that is precisely what I like about them.
If he likes traditional English food and things that are Victorian in nature, maybe A History of English Food by Clarissa Dickinson-Wright? Hash oil on the other hand, could theoretically work. If you could form the terpenes and THC (or CBDs) into a powder or pliable filament, using a low temperature 3D printer with silicone nozzles and such to prevent the oil from sticking. You could then print shaped hash oil....An eighth in the shape of a Piece of Eight
Edit: On a semi-related note, I've wanted to use silicone molds like these to mold BHO after purging when it's still a viscous liquid. I really like this one, it'd be great for shatter; pre-formed little squares that you can break off or cut off with a hot tool...Look like they'd be about a gram too.

Games like Candyland would be good for the older two, and the younger one can help out, or maybe even join in. Something fun they can do that's a bit messy is to buy a cheap canvas or two from a dollar store, get some kid's paint and a couple of tennis balls or big sponges. You might need a tarp or two to line the area first, then dip the ball/sponge in the paint and have them throw it at the canvas. They can make some art for you or their parents as gifts!

I've got more if you want. A simple trick with onigiri is to make them in a non zip sandwich bag. You the bag to line a onigiri mould and them put the rice in the bag. You don't get your hands all messy. You can also just shape them in the bag if you don't have a mould. Then they are individually wrapped for your guest and easier to eat. I used to be the club "mom" for my school's Japanese club and would do this all the time.

These are a staple in my home. Delicious, low carb, good fiber. Can do so much with them, hamburger rolls, sandwich rolls, English muffin substitute. Great with butter, cream cheese, hummus, etc. My next plan is to get this and make bagels. Sausage egg and cheese on a bagel.... can't wait.
Sure! They're actually baked, not deep-fried, and I got them off the back of this pan I bought that had the min-donut shape.
Preheat oven to 425F. Spray pan with non-stick cooking spray.
In a large mixing bowl, sift together flour, sugar, baking powder, nutmeg and salt. Add buttermilk, egg, and butter and stir until just combined. Fill each doughnut cup approximately 1/2 full.
Bake 4-6 minutes or until the top of the doughnuts spring back when touched. Let cool in pan for 4-5 minutes before removing. You can then glaze or add sprinkles :)

I was just looking at the list and can not imagine having time to cook with flour every day. I bake edible bread, but I am not a pastry chef. This recipe seems a simpler option to make a sandwich from scratch.

Here is a link to the mold I have. I want to say the cats are about an inch to an inch and a half long, and half an inch deep. I was thinking of putting some white chocolate in the facial parts of the mold, and getting some colored white chocolate as well. Yeah my fear on looks is that if the white chocolate is thin enough, it might be see through and look bad haha. I will probably do reverse cats too where I use the milk chocolate as the spots and facial features, and the white chocolate as the base. That will probably look a lot better (but the bf doesn't like white chocolate so I only wanted to use a little). Best part about this is i actually have a degree in culinary arts and worked at a bakery doing this stuff for 3 years but I'm still just as clueless about cooking and baking as I was when I was just born XD

Upon further (delicious) research, the best way for me to eat them was from the head (the head being the fat end, like a caterpillar). Recipe here and molds I used here. Enoy!
Sometimes, if you don’t really care too much of the shape or a perfectionist in that sense, you can sometimes find plastic molds for onigiri such as this on Amazon or this from Daiso . I’ve only seen these once in a general Japanese store but hopefully this helps.
Unless you change the flavor, it's a mild sweet almond taste. Perhaps a macaron mat would make it easier.
Yes, they do! I actually originally bought them for my macarons at the suggestion of Sally's Baking Addiction. I started using them for regular cookies as well and that's where my surprise at how well they worked came in. :) I bought full half-sheet silpats but you can also buy silicone mats from Amazon that actually have macaron templates built in.
I made some parchment paper templates to stick under my silpats, but I've been meaning to get macaron silpats too.
