Copypasta just to be sure nobody gets taken on this crap:

As a package, I'm not impressed. None of these are a viable alternative to CPAP. I've used 4 of the 5 items with some small success, but I see no reason to pay their astronomical prices for such mediocre products. Better products are available for less money on Amazon.

The pacifier thing I haven't used, but it doesn't seem to do much to actually open the airway. Even when custom made and medically supervised, these TRD devices aren't very effective. If you're seriously looking for an alternative to CPAP, look into some real oral appliances by checking with an ENT or oral surgeon who specializes in "sleep medicine". Keep in mind that these are all second line treatments to CPAP and that they aren't as effective with severe sleep apnea. Here's a couple examples:

http://www.dentalsleepsolutions.com/index.php/about-sleep-apnea/obstructive-sleep-apnea-treatment-three-types-of-dental-sleep-devices

http://finder.tapintosleep.com/patients-treatment-options-tap-therapy/

The chinstrap may be useful in combination with CPAP. Perhaps this could make CPAP more tolerable if it were more comfortable? Sometimes a chin strap can help people who breathe through their mouth use a nasal mask (which is less cumbersome and easier to use). I like the simple wide band variety that's $12:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006O8LVX2/

The eye mask looks cheap. It doesn't have deep sockets, so you eyelashes are going to hit the mask - something I can't tolerate. I've used this $8 mask and it works great with a full face mask (but not a nasal):

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B016OQYNL0/

For a nasal mask, this one is a luxury item at $50 but it's worth it. There really aren't many alternatives that can compete with this:

https://www.eyeeco.com/tranquileyessupsup-with-instants-for-moderate-dry-eye-relief-charcoal.html?cat-id=45

The little nose things can help get more air through the nose but don't expect miracles. The ones in the package could be adequate, but they only provide a single size of a single type. There may be better ones, but here's the assortment I've tried, which is a great way to see which size and type actually fits:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MSWZW0U/

Lastly, the earplugs look generic. It is absolutely nuts to pay $50 for something that's under $5 at any drugstore. Here's a better option:

https://www.amazon.com/Macks-Pillow-Soft-Silicone-Earplugs/dp/B003LZQGN6/

PS: with all the money you've saved, get a decent soundbar for your bedroom and get some ambient noise going. This is what I've been using:

What kind of tape would you recommend? 3M Micropore paper tape or something like this? https://www.amazon.com/Sleep-Strips-SomniFix-Breathing-Nighttime/dp/B076CQ1NR8

And do you think there's any benefit to using Flonase to encourage deeper breathing even though I don't have any allergies now?

Update: Used Nexcare Gentle Paper Tape last night (best I could find locally). Didn't have any trouble whatsoever falling asleep or staying asleep. Awoke feeling refreshed, perhaps slightly more refreshed than normal, but not eye-opening, dramatically more refreshed. Wore a DenTek Maximum Protection Dental Guard underneath. It juts out just a little, but I used 2 layers of tape, and I felt like the seal was pretty good. Woke up with a moist mouth. Noticeable saliva on the gums. Though, I will say my throat was a little dry. I might have been biting into the guard a little too much, and the impression might be rubbing on my gums. But that might have been happening anyway, and I suppose it's better to have that friction with a well moistened mouth than a dry one. I'm going to try the tape with a low-profile, disposable Plackers one that needs to be changed out every few days.

Edit: Definitely feel more refreshed, the more I dwell on it. But, could be a placebo effect.

Most of the time I'm living in a flat so what I do it use a quick detailer (US link / UK link) and microfibre (US link / UK link) to keep things clean between proper washes. In fact I keep a bottle of quick detailer and a one of glass cleaner in the car at all times (I wrap a microfibre cloth around the spray head and put the combo in the driver/passenger door pocket).

Basically if you can catch any big, obvious dirt e.g. bird crap, early then it makes things easy.

If you manage to get some time, putting on a good coat of really hard wearing wax (US link / UK link) or sealant (US link / UK link) will be really helpful. It should last a year and make cleaning with quick detailer much easier.

As for the headlights, the yellow colour comes from the plastic oxidising. You need to scrub away that layer and then protect it. Toothpaste works quite well but there are dedicated products like (US link / UK link). Afterwards I'd apply some 303 Aerospace protectant (US link / UK link) which is also great for the interior plastic.

Ugh I’m sorry health insurance is an issue (I’ve had my experience of not having it for a month and it freaked me out).

The book recommends taping your mouth shut with special tape. I don’t think the book recommends anything specific, but they do make social tape for it:
Sleep Strips by SomniFix - Advanced Gentle Mouth Tape for Better Nose Breathing, Improved Nighttime Sleeping, Less Mouth Breathing, and Instant Snoring Relief - Pack of 28 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076CQ1NR8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_buGzDbM1JB4SA

I almost want to try this for my husband because he snores & sleeps poorly. But I don’t think he would want to pay for a new box every month.

I wonder if there is a cheaper option.

u/judogirl · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Ok, you definitely need this. It is just so cute!

Something I would like for myself is this book.

I hope you enjoy you "new" car! Vroom Vroom! :)

Use mouth tape, prevents mouth breathing and snoring.

Part of it is making sure things have a designated place, that makes sense visually. A valet is good for these smaller items that we use everyday and don't necessarily want to hide. I certainly have to have my meds visible for me to remember to take them. This one is nice. I like the ideas one ones that include phone charging. They can also be very simple like this one.

I use this stuff: 3M Micropore Paper Tape - White, 1" x 10yds (Box of 12) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003TXPZ64/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_3O-hDbEAYYGSD

It’s cheap, easy to apply/remove, and hasn’t given me any issues around my mouth.

There are products available like this: Sleep Strips by SomniFix - Advanced Gentle Mouth Tape for Better Nose Breathing, Improved Nighttime Sleeping, Less Mouth Breathing, and Instant Snoring Relief - Pack of 28 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076CQ1NR8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_IQ-hDbKWBTYPT

Not worth the money IMO but I have read good things.

u/peony_chalk · 12 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Did your doctor specifically recommend the adhesive nasal strips because they're the superior option, or do you think one of the in-nose varieties like this or this would solve both the breathing and "I don't want adhesive stuck to my face every night for the rest of my life" problems? (Unfortunately, these might exacerbate the attractiveness problem, though.)

I bought the ones in the second link last year, and honestly, I don't love them. Usually if my nose is stuffed up enough for me to use them, it's stuffed up enough that they don't help. They also seem to fall out in the middle of the night half the time, or my subconscious brain instructs my hand to remove them from my nose at 3am. If you're just trying to open your nose a bit wider though, they do indeed serve that function.

u/ummmbacon · 1 pointr/longrange

You won't be disappointed. His other one:

http://www.amazon.com/Ballistic-Performance-Rifle-Bullets-Bryan/dp/0990920607/ref=asap_bc?ie=UTF8

Is a pretty good read as well, but you can find a lot of the same info online. Just good to see his take on it. He also does his own G1 & G7 calculations on different ammo.

u/ultskiz · 1 pointr/starbucks

hey sorry for the late reply!! i’m actually not home right now and i don’t have my straw with me but it looks like this plain straight one!! it’s not anything fancy but i think it’s cute! she had the bended one though :p

u/MotionPillow · 2 pointsr/sleep

Snoring or disrupted sleep is a danger to both the snorer's sleep health and relationships as a whole. For the snorer, it can lead to long term health effects and is a symptom of a greater issue. Furthermore, it affects the sleeping partner's sleep quality and leads to resentment, fighting, and many couples have to sleep separately as you said, which effects intimacy - most people like a good cuddle! When someone has the flu they go to a doctor, drink lots of water or tea, and take medicine. Snoring should be viewed and treated similarly, as the medical issue it is.

If he is wriggling or moving in the night it could well be due to him lightly waking himself up with his snoring. Sleep studies are indeed useful, though it may be worth getting some more information and trying a couple of remedies before forking out the money for one, as they can run from hundreds to a couple of thousand dollars.

Snorelabs is a useful app which tracks snoring data such as volume, amount of snoring, snoring/ sleep cycle etc. and it's a good place to start. Other common factors which cause snoring are smoking, age, sleeping position, diet, being overweight, allergies, and environment (hot/dry bedrooms). Your partner may suffer from sleep apnea, which can be a very serious condition if left undiagnosed. Look into some of the common symptoms of that. Once you've narrowed down some potential causes, try to treat them - stop smoking, change diet, try to lose some weight and so on. In the meantime, there are various nose plugs and chin straps which could serve as a short term solution. We have a product, Motion Pillow, which may also be able to help.

I hope you both get some good sleep soon!

u/ClassySavage · 1 pointr/hockey

I'm a big fan of this one. It weighs pretty much nothing, has the red night mode, and you can vary the brightness for battery life vs raw brightness.

I use it for backpacking and working on my car.

u/louderharderfaster · 2 pointsr/keto

> Well, ever since I just forced myself to breathe thru my nose... I've actually had the clearest breathing I can ever imagine.

I had this exact same experience. I swear my brain fog even cleared before I was in full ketosis.

I get downvoted a lot for mentioning mouth taping but it is not a gimmick.

I use these https://www.amazon.com/Sleep-Strips-SomniFix-Breathing-Nighttime/dp/B076CQ1NR8/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1541210807&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=somnifix&psc=1

Thank you for letting me know it is working for you. Makes it worth the downvotes :)

u/[deleted] · 1 pointr/steroids

I'm trying these "nose vents" that have pretty good reviews for snoring help.

Going to start using them tonight and I'll report back although I'll be sleeping alone until this weekend so sleep quality is all I'll be able to go on until Saturday. They're small and could easily be slipped in without a bed companion noticing them.

u/mareksoon · 2 pointsr/Austin

Serious answers (my CPAP nasal mask was blowing my mouth open while sleeping; you don't know cotton mouth until every inch of your mouth and throat is so dry you can't even close it).

3M Micropore surgical tape over the mouth (it's serious stuff and quite a challenge to remove in the morning). The trick is to roll your lips in, then apply it.

Also, Sleep Strips by SomniFix might work for you. In fact, if you want to try them, I have a mostly full box I can mail you (they're individually wrapped, like bandages). They didn't work as well for me as the surgical tape ... and I later re-trained myself to sleep with my mouth closed (most nights, at least).

Also, creating suction in your mouth and holding it seems to help somewhat, too.

Now I need to deal with biting my tongue while sleeping; hoping I can manage that without investing in a mouth guard.

u/lovelystrange · 1 pointr/AskDocs

nasal strips at night make a huge difference

I've also tried these which are good but fall out

And these which were not comfy to me

I think you can't do much else but these products help. Btw a rhinoplasty is generally cosmetic and doesn't fix a deviated septum. You're looking for a septoplasty. I had one but unfortunately was unlucky and it re-deviated back to how it was.

Edit: also a pro tip you can usually see a deviated septum more clearly if you look at the nostrils.

u/alex_moose · -1 pointsr/AmItheAsshole

While you're waiting for insurance to get the sleep study, grab some devices to help reduce your snoring.

Anti snoring belt to help you sleep on your side, or make your own by sewing pockets for tennis balls onto the back of a shirt.

Nasal Dilators. Breathe Right nasal strips are available locally and help a little bit, but nasal dilators tend to help more.

u/CouponTheMovie · 1 pointr/SleepApnea

Here is the one I use now, and I can’t say enough good things about it. 9 years on CPAP and this is the best I’ve slept.

u/castironfan · 2 pointsr/castiron

I think that's pretty much as good as it gets. I prefer to order lye labeled as 'food grade', but it probably doesn't matter.

This looks promising: https://www.amazon.com/Grade-Sodium-Hydroxide-Micro-Beads/dp/B00YPKD3Z0/ref=sr_1_9_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1525816326&sr=8-9&keywords=lye

Buy him these (examples of recommended products only, not specific name/brand/item recommedations, please do your own research for best fit for your circumstances and budget)

  1. Anti snore nasal strips. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075JGT4R9/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_LbYODbT5GATG0
  2. Adjustable mouth guard for snoring/teeth grinding https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07VZ35ZC5/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_0eYODb3WM1AAS

Many snorers have chronically blocked sinuses (that's why even non-snorers tend to snore when they have a cold) so the nasal strips help open them up for better, quieter breathing. Also, if he has apnea, his throat is closing and the snore is from the air being forced through the closed or severely restricted space (obviously). The mouth guard can help his jaw and throat align better for better breathing.

Buy them, give them to him with something like: Dude, your snoring is killing me, and I think it's really serious. I can't sleep through it, it's so loud. I really think you should see a doctor, but for now would you just try these please to see if they'd help? Sleep apnea can have major negative impact on your life and health, so I want you to get checked out so you don't cause long term problems. But I also want to sleep myself, now.

I am NAD but these are things that helped me on my journey. I have confirmed sleep apnea now, used a cpap for a while, became CPAP intolerant, now use a $4500 custom mouthguard and earplugs and sleep better than I have in years.

On a related note, the feed can swap if you want to use a hopper, though I can't ever seem to find the one that clamps on securely like this https://www.amazon.com/Adjustable-Elite-Paintball-Feedneck-Black/dp/B00WGRZ1BS/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8
instead of the cheap slip on version

I wonder if a CPAP machine would help you.

They are for preventing sleep apnea. However some (most?) models have a humidifier so the air going in is moist.

You would need to consult a doctor to make sure using this without apnea would not cause any other problems. And you would likely have to pay out of pocket for the machine.

Or maybe something like this?

My friend and I have a deviated septum. He snores ridiculous. I can't sleep with my mouth open.

If you have a deviated septum, I suggest getting this. I sleep well now. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DKR1AUI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_a2hczbQ8ZV7Y8

u/scumteam14 · 3 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

That's a tough one! I did a sub search and the recommendations include:

  • using in-nose breathing aids like this

  • putting a hydrocolloid bandage on your nose and adhering the strip to that instead of directly on the skin

  • trying different varieties, maybe other types use different adhesives that are less bothersome

  • cleaning your nose thoroughly after the strip is removed

  • seeing if an ENT can fix the issue so you don't need to use the strips
u/throwaway9832663 · 1 pointr/transvoice

In all seriousness, I was thinking about getting these sleep strips:

https://www.amazon.com/Sleep-Strips-SomniFix-Breathing-Nighttime/dp/B076CQ1NR8

They're made for a different purpose, but I think it's exactly what I need! Provides a breathing hole, but keeps you reminded to keep your mouth closed. What do you think?

totoro sticker

Once I went to a couples house to get some mason jars. I'm getting married and wanted to reuse items for decor. The older man was obviously very ill, and I ended up sitting with the couple for 2 hours while they told me their story. They were so in love. As I was pulling out the man mentioned my Totoro sticker. I came back a week later and left the DvD on their door step as thanks for my SUV full of mason jars.

My sticker is old and a cheap version off eBay so I need a new one!
