I suggest you buy good quality winter gear over lots of winter gear.

It's not that hard to safely remove those asbestos tiles. I wet the floor with a wet mop and used a sidewalk scraper to get them up. Most of the tiles came right up very easily without cracking. Most municipalities in my area just ask that you double bag them before disposal.

Of course you'll want to wear a proper respirator, tape up any areas where dust may escape into the rest of the house (ventilation ducts, doorways, etc), and clean up all surfaces really well afterwards. People tend to treat asbestos like it's radioactive. The risk of exposure can be nulled by being careful and following basic safety precautions.

One of the best products I've ever bought, no hyperbole, was a SnoBrum (Amazon link). It can clean deep snow off your car/truck/van in under a minute.
The extending handle makes it up to 4ft long. Just push it across the hood/top/trunk (bonnet/boot), snow falls off the side, then pull it back; 2ft cleared each time. I would even clean off my co-workers cars real quick after deep snows.
Seriously, buy one if it snows where you live. Search for the best price. I've bought a few of them (had mine for 8 yrs or so, bought some for friends) and FYI the best ones have the black tightening knob-thing in the middle vs. the ones with the white ring. The black-knob ones hold tighter, but both are great. The picture Amazon shows might not be what they send you, be aware of that.

91 octane gas (no ethanol) will help, keep the carb free of deposits.
I typically used a single 10 litre gas can for an entire winter. This included being neighbourly and doing other driveways when people were away.
Electric start helps when it’s minus 30.

This one works well.... https://www.amazon.ca/Briggs-Stratton-1696619-Dual-Stage-Electric/dp/B00YMMCP8W/ref=sr_1_7?keywords=snow+blower&qid=1570844964&sr=8-7 —-Picked one up for my father in law. Trouble free for 3 years so far.

The craftsman 24-28 inch dual stage with the snow king engines are a great used value. I bought one and used it for 5 years and sold it for what I paid for it.

Yep! I have one of these that I got from Target or somewhere like 5 years ago:

Really awesome for taking care of the hood/roof.

Sleigh shovel - You don't lift it so it's big and can clear driveways well. Low effort for high volume clearing.

Blade shovel - Less versatile than sleigh shovel and best for repeated clearings of flat areas. Good for commercial needs.

Classic shovel - For walkways and doorways. Get a mini one for your vehicle. Ow my back!

PS. homeowners probably also want to get a roof rake.

I linked this in another comment, but this snow scraper/brush has been great for me the past 3 years. It has soft material on the wide end so it won't scratch your paint as you push the snow off the top, and has a telescoping handle.

These ergonomic snow pushers are good all-rounders. (But they do make bigger ones and ones that have wheels.) Doesn't matter, you want a pusher. That's going to chew through all of your loose white fluffy and/or gray and wet snow. That's like half the winter at least, and the sooner you get out there after each snowfall the easier it'll be so you can even push into ice storm territory.

But up north you're going to want to get something like this or even one of these for when you've got to break up crusty stuff that the pusher's just skating over.

We recently purchased a Troy-Bilt 2100 and it's really nice. It's single stage, but the impeller is designed so that if you tilt it up slightly it will pull itself across the concrete. This also means you get a very close and clean plow on your surface. Personally, I would not purchase a 2 stage unless I lived further out in a rural area. You're not going to want to get a 2-stage out for a few inches, and a single stage gas will handle MOST everything you get except in very rare circumstances. https://smile.amazon.com/Troy-Bilt-Squall-208cc-Single-Stage-Thrower/dp/B00IOXIGN8

Our driveway is extremely steep, and this single stage is just fine for us (plus I wouldn't want to be pushing a 2-stage up that incline). The only issue we have had so far is the concrete mix that the plow left us yesterday, which we had to chop up a bit with a shovel first.

It needs to be pretty flat, particularly if you're using thin flooring. Use a sidewalk scraper (looks like a hoe, but has a flat-edge,) and go over the floor. Unless you have a really aggressive adhesive like Mastic, you should be able to get it up.

Are you using the really thin flooring, or stuff that's thicker than 1/4"? You shouldn't have stuff sticking up from the floor that's more than around 1/16" in height. If you really, really can't get it up, consider pouring leveler to create a flat surface.

That's a really cool ice scraper, but I have a telescoping one and wouldn't trade it for anything, having the extra reach is pretty much essential at this point, especially when my car is up against a wall or a snow bank and I can only reach it from one side.

Good idea...i have a craftsman 247.881731 snowblower and the closest i can find is this one from amazon, but it doesn't say model number, just craftsman. Do you think this will fit?

Nevermind, i found it on eBay. https://www.ebay.com/c/12026408781

there is a bunch on amazon for pretty cheap. You have a choice between a electric shovel or an actual blower. The electric shovel should be fine for just your house.

Yes Amazon sells heated cable meant for de-icing house roof gutters for like $35.

Here is a 20' that might be perfect

I'm sure it could be rigged to a high voltage (line level) thermostat for baseboard heaters that would turn it on and off as needed.

I live in upstate NY and Prestone De-Icer has helped me get to work on time on multiple occasions. It can take a while to get your car ready to drive during winter, so definitely get a good extending ice scraper like this one. Considering your budget, I'd focus on getting quality boots and long johns, then check out Goodwill for coats and other stuff to layer. They get surprisingly good stuff sometimes. Either way, sorry for your loss. That's brutal.
