Here's what I wrote in another thread:

I ride with two Drift Stealth 2s and they're great - you can get them for about $85-100 apiece. They have 3-hour-ish battery life and on a 32 gig card can hold three days of my 20-mile-a-day commutes (they also have dashcam-like rollover so that you never have to worry about full memory, if you prefer that). They do 720p at 60fps or 1080p at 30fps, and while their picture isn't the equivalent of a GoPro, it's plenty good for legal purposes.

I highly recommend a helmet mount (vs. a bar mount) for your front-facing camera. You're much more likely to capture whatever shit's going on that way; a bar mount has a smoother picture but will miss anything happening to the side of your bicycle. One of the nice features of the Stealth 2 is that the camera lens rotates, so if you have to mount on your helmet at a funny angle you can turn the lens to compensate and still have a horizontal video.

For the rear mount, I used the sawed-off center beam of a seatpost-mounted back rack. There are cheaper seatpost-mounted back racks, but this particular model has a flat top, which makes it work well with the adhesive mount. I cut off everything but three-four inches from the beam, slapped the adhesive mount that comes with the Stealth 2 on there, and it's been going great even through weather for several months now.

If you have to choose between front and back for now, I'd definitely recommend investing in the front first.

Here's what they look like in daylight.

Here's what they look like during urban nighttime.

Here's what it looks like in rain.

Edit: It's notable that because the Stealth 2 uses a slide-in-slide-out mounting system, your mount-to-camera connection will loosen slightly over time from the friction of mounting and unmounting, which will cause vibration in the video after a while. I found that you can shim the inside of the mount with a strip of electrical tape, which tightens everything up nicely.

I have the Sony Action Cam HDR-15.

I can't claim any comparison because I've never used any other video cameras, but so far I've really enjoyed mine. I take it on every daily commute, for safety reasons and to show some of the more memorable moments to friends and family from time to time.

As for quality, it's good, but could be better. From the videos I've seen, we're not talking GoPro quality here, but for ~$160 I'm not complaining.

I've posted a few videos on YouTube:

  • Here is one on my rocky gravel road. I had the steady feature on and also used YouTube's stabilization feature. You can see that the ride was bumpy, but overall, you can still see the tress and the landscape and the lettering from most road signs. However, I think the most damning issue in these videos is that it is VERY difficult to see license plates, even from close up.
  • Here is a video of a ride taken at night. I think this video better demonstrates the quality of the video. Notice, however, that the video capture is pretty poor when the ride meanders off to a windy back road with no streetlamps. I had a lone LED headlight that I bought for ~$10. If the video couldn't see me, I started wandering if cars could. Inevitably, I ended up buying two of these very bright led headlights. I just tested them out last night and whew, they are bright! Unfortunately, I haven't edited the video just yet to see how much of an improvement they are, but will try to post it later today.

    Other considerations:

I really like the wifi feature of this camera. I rarely use my phone as the camera's remote, but I like that I have the option, and that I can show off my videos on the fly.

I'm also a fan of changing the recording to intervals. This basically allows me to use the Action Cam as a point and shoot camera. We got some good pictures during our hike up Rough Ridge the other day using the Action Cam in its housing.

I've shot with Canons most of my adult life, and with point and shoots at that...only got a DSLR in the last couple of years. My favorite camera ever was a Canon Powershot SD1000. Here's one used on ebay for under $100. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Canon-PowerShot-Digital-ELPH-SD1000-Digital-IXUS-70-7-1-MP-Digital-Camera-/151071427429?_trksid=p3284.m263&_trkparms=algo%3DSIC%26its%3DI%26itu%3DUCI%252BUA%252BP%252BFICS%252BUFI%252BIIUM%26otn%3D21%26pmod%3D150830697512%26ps%3D54
That camera takes great shots with great color, wonderful macros (close ups), long exposures for night photos, some simple videos, and possibly the best feature for such an old camera, time lapse videos. I used that for sunsets, sunrises, and everything in between. It's tiny, packs into the smallest pockets...the list goes on. These days Canon makes a water/shock/freeze/dust proof camera that's only a little bigger than the SD1000. http://www.amazon.com/Canon-PowerShot-Waterproof-Stabilized-Wide-Angle/dp/B0075SUKIC I'd get one if I didn't already have a waterproof D10. Good luck, and as you've found out, there are a zillion sites online where you can learn the craft. Happy shooting.

I ride with two cameras that are basically identical to these (the specific ones I have aren't for sale any more): https://smile.amazon.com/Crosstour-Underwater-Waterproof-Wide-Angle-Rechargeable/dp/B074319MZZ/ref=sr_1_7?s=photo&ie=UTF8&qid=1543552105&sr=1-7&keywords=action+camera

and these mounts:

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B017JJ06IU/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

They work great. I charge them both about twice a week, and clear the cards when I charge them (they do not auto-delete old videos, which is a shame, but they *do* record in 10-minute incremental videos).

I don't have any video to share that doesn't have license plates, and I don't want anyone getting dox'd. They are good enough at 1080p that you can pretty reliably read a plate in good light, or if you're behind a car and you have a good head light, you'll be able to read it at night. They work fine in light down to normal street lights, but they don't record much at night, on say, the springwater trail (too dark).

I've compared with older Go Pros, and can't tell any substantial difference, and these were *literally* 1/10th of the price (~$35 / each, they came with the waterproof housing).

I had one incident where I needed to get medical care and a replaced helmet due to being right-hooked; having video made that *very* simple.

I hiked Mt. Kilimanjaro last month over the course of 7 days. Our group of three all had gopros and we each brought 5-7 batteries and an external battery pack. <br />
  <br />
Our 12000mAh battery would charge gopro batteries about 8-12 times depending on original/wasabi capacity. I ended up only going through more than one battery on two of the days I think. If you turn the camera off when you stop recording the battery lasts fairly long even in cold conditions (It would get down to 15 degrees F at night (-10 C)). <br />
<br />
As for memory cards I brought four 32g cards. I like to have several smaller capacity cards instead of one big one in case one accidentally gets wiped or the data gets corrupted. I ended up shooting ~60g over the seven days, including several long timelapses. For a three week trip I would recommend two 64g cards if possible, or better yet four 32g cards. <br />

I also brought a panning base (its a glorified egg timer) and got a few cool timelapse shots of sunrises and a few of the camps. Shot everything at 1080 60fps for video and 2s intervals for timelapses and turned out great.

Here are all the links. Good luck!

Kid cameras are usually garbage, not worth purchasing. They've just recently gone above 1MP, but are still easily $50.

Instead, I'd probably go with something like a Canon PowerShot D20 that's waterproof to 10m and designed to withstand 1.5m drops. It's around $200-$250, so not cheap, but it's a good camera in its own right. If he didn't end up using it for long, I'd be happy using it myself.

If you go with regular point-and-shoot cameras, expect them to be mostly disposable. Go into it expecting it to be broken the instant you hand it to him, and you won't be disappointed if he surprises you and it lasts years.

u/other-brother-darryl · 4 pointsr/flyfishing

Ok here's what i did since

A) I didn't want to spend the $$ on a go pro and

B) I wanted a camera that is easily scripted (or hackable if you will).

I got the Xiaomi Yi Action cam with the water proof case for about $75

Stuffed it with memory

Grabbed some adhesive mounts for $8

And enabled this script that allows you to just push the on button when you hook a fish and the cam will take a photo every two seconds until you shut it off. You end up with a lot of photos but it's easy to sort though and just grab the good ones. The script also allows you to set different exposure and quality settings which make for some great pics.

If you go this route hit me up once you get the cam and I'll share out there script I use.

u/cfoster5 · 3 pointsr/kindafunny

It's very hard to find a good camera in that price range. If you have a phone that is less than a couple years old, you're probably better to go that route. That said, if you can afford a GoPro, the guys use a GoPro HERO4 BLACK as a backup camera that would be better than a smartphone in most applications. This model's built in mic is said to be much better than the new model that was just released. If you want to use an external mic, you'll need this adapter. You can also find all of their gear in a post I made here, if you're interested.

Edit: If you decide to use a smartphone, this is a pretty good mic that attaches directly to a phone.

u/jeffsenpai · 1 pointr/Cameras

Is 4K a requirement? If you can do 1080p 60fps, I would suggest the Yi Lite action cam. It is a similar price to the camera you mentioned, but it is well reviewed and that makes a big difference in this category of cameras. There are soooooooo many cheapy action cameras with varying names on Amazon it can be very difficult to tell which are good or not. Even for ones that are "reviewed", often these cams undergo revisions and stock changes that are not reflected in initial reviews. Amazon reviews are generally terrible for action cams, since the average joe "reviewing" the cameras has no clue what they are talking about.

Almost universally, the Yi Lite is well reviewed. I also once owned the Yi Lite and can attest that it is easy to use and gives acceptable quality stabilized video for the price. I only sold mine since I upgraded to a GoPro hero 6 black. For the under $100 mark, I think the Yi Lite is quite the value.

u/medievalcraft · 2 pointsr/bikecommuting

I've looked into this because I'm not satisfied with the one I have. The Contour Roam 2 is fine, it does the job, but it has its flaws. It does not overwrite files when the card is full, so it is necessary to delete all files manually. Also, if you don't run Windows (or maybe Mac?) it's impossible to sync the time on it, so you can't ever know for sure when your videos were taken. Its image quality is decent but not superb.

The one I've had my eye one is the Drift Stealth 2. It's about the same price, has the same sorts of features, but importantly overwrites files.

The Contour Roams are very easy to use (simple slider switch), but it does get annoying having to delete files all the time. Having to plug the thing in to charge it and to deal with files means I'm messing with it like every two rides. I'd rather have something I can leave alone for the most part.

If you are fine with a boxier camera, the Xiaomi Yi is a great GoPro knockoff, very cheap (about $100 including a separate waterproof case), and great quality. Battery life isn't as good as the Contour, though. Also, the SJCam SJ4000 is often really cheap (like $40-60), but image quality is much lower.

It's the Hero+LCD

GoPro HERO+ LCD (Wi-Fi Enabled) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00XUP5M6Y/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_t4joxbTFRTB82

Reviews seem pretty good. Value is a bit off but I'm glad DnB offers it. I was in the market for a Hero Black but I think this may be adequate.

u/Peace-Only · 5 pointsr/motorcycles

A friend is a professional photographer, and she recommends Sony for the action camera market. GoPro makes a solid product of course, but she contends it's mostly a matter of marketing like Beats headphones - which are good headphones but at their price point you can get a better product for cheaper.

The Sony Action Cam AS100V is on my to-buy list.

Looks like Xiami Yi 4 or the Xiami Yi 4+ are the rising competitors. They apparently use the same sensors as the GoPro (the sony one) but I don't know about accessories, like something like a BacPac extended battery from GoPro, I don't know if it would fit on the YI 4+.

&gt; The camera uses a 12.3 Megapixel Sony IMX377 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor, which could very well be the same one that GoPro uses in its HERO5 Black.

u/eggplantsforall · 2 pointsr/bikecommuting

I've got the Lightdow LD4000 and I am very happy with it. I use it for my rear-facing camera (I have a Contour Roam 2 for the front) and the video/audio quality is very good considering the price. Video quality is noticeably better than the Roam 2 (which is only 720p, and cost me $200).

Only downsides as mentioned are battery life (though the battery is removable and it comes with a spare which I just keep charged and in my seat bag), and it needs to be in it's case to be waterproof. The case is plenty waterproof though, as I just used it on a recent whitewater kayaking trip and it stayed dry through multiple rolls.

Other pluses are that it comes with a huge collection of mounting options.

Edit: I would probably by the LD6000 for the Wifi feature - only $10 more - since it is annoying to have to take it out of its case to recharge / download videos. But you can also easily delete the SdCard from the camera interface to free up storage if you don't need the historical footage.

u/Bemo98 · 0 pointsr/fpv

It depends on the purpose. For FPV the GoPro camera is well suited but for an action cam with the best image quality is this one. Little bit cheaper than GoPro Hero 3 Black Edition. But you really can use this one for fpv.

In highschool I was seriously considering becoming a paramedic. I was interested in medicine because I wanted to help people, didn't want to spend $100,000+ to go to school for 8 years to become a doctor, and there's always job security in the medical field. I met a guy at a job I worked at right out of highschool and his experiences convinced me otherwise. So I thought to myself, what do I do now?

Since I was a kid, I've wanted to become a pilot. I'm big into the whole simulator thing; I bought an x52 and a TrackIR. Without ever having sat in a cockpit, I knew it's what I wanted to do with my life. Some people tried to warn me that actually being up there and seeing everything from that perspective would scare me, and that I should reconsider, because a lot of people can't handle heights. I didn't listen to them. When I finally got the chance to fly a plane, it was everything I hoped for, and further compounded my drive.

It's been over two years since I made the decision that I'll be applying to the Canadian Armed Forces. I have since been upgrading my schooling, because I didn't take advanced courses in HS. If I don't screw my schedule up, I'll be applying this coming January. It's a 14 year commitment between schooling and mandatory post-secondary service, and I can't wait to start it.

u/RecycledRepost · 2 pointsr/gopro

That's a 'smart person's GoPro' ! You can take pictures, videos, and go underwater. And save hundreds of dollars too! The truth is, that camera probably meets most requirements of the typical consumer buying a GoPro. Lol https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DVX1HQM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_rMT2DbMJS7ZPA

If you were looking to spend a little more then the YI Action Camera works pretty good. I personally use it on the trails and it works well.

Along with the camera I would get the Proshot Helmet Mount System if it works with your helmet. I also use this on the trails and it hasn't moved at all since I put it on due to the heavy-duty velcro they use (I've also crashed a couple times while it was on and it hasn't budged). The chin mount also has no wind resistance, so when going fast speeds your head wouldn't get pulled to a side and branches wouldn't knock it off your helmet.

A Sandisk Extreme MicroSD is what I use and it is fast enough to do 1080p 60fps.

Overall this would cost you ~$140 for all three items. The camera also comes with a free battery offer on amazon so you would have two batteries to get you through a couple riding sessions. (Each battery lasts a little more than an hour)

Here is some footage at 1080p 60fps

u/expletivization · 2 pointsr/Kayaking

GoPro mounted on the bow. Good in low light, waterproof. I use the floaty back-door in case it gets knocked off. I usually set it to take a photo every 5 seconds and turn it off and on depending on how interesting the environment is. Makes for some pretty fun pictures

u/Apotropaic_Sphinx · 1 pointr/Filmmakers

Okay, yeah, the image you linked to is a boroscope, and that's definitely not what you want.

The Panasonic HX-A100 or the Sony HDR-AS15 are going to be your best bets.

u/revmitcz · 1 pointr/Standup

If you're shooting clips for promotion/management/etc just ask a friend with a DSLR to shoot it for you. Or, go on Craigslist and offer $20-$30 to someone to do it - there's plenty of budding videographers who'd be happy to get the experience. Also, bring your own memory card (ask the videographer which memory type they use) so you can get the footage back immediately and pay them at the same time.

Beyond that, I personally recommend filming EVERY set you do. I've been using a little Kodak Zi8 for years and a gorillapod. Both of them fit inside my inner jacket pockets. The newest version (pretty much discontinued) of that is the Zx5 : https://www.amazon.com/Kodak-PlaySport-Waterproof-Pocket-Camera/dp/B004FLL5BI/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&amp;amp;qid=1469148445&amp;amp;sr=8-14&amp;amp;keywords=kodak+zi8 -- I set it up in the back of the room (the GorillaPod grips onto fuckin' anything) and watch my sets at the end of the night and take notes.

However, if you've got the scratch, I would recommend a GoPro instead. Much better quality and it's even smaller than the Kodak ones. You can get a refurb'd HERO3+ Silver for under $250 : https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00XIXNSH8?psc=1&amp;amp;smid=A5OS1RR2Q6H5H

Another cheap but very useful item would be a lapel mic for your phone. Here's one for $10 : https://www.amazon.com/Microphone-Omnidirectional-Recording-Interview-Conference/dp/B01E3L1ESS/ref=sr_1_3?s=photo&amp;amp;ie=UTF8&amp;amp;qid=1469148822&amp;amp;sr=1-3&amp;amp;keywords=iphone+lapel+mic (some lapel mics require a separate AUX connector to work with modern phones, this one seems not to). Plug that bitch into your phone, clip the mic onto your shirt (or inside jacket if you wear one), and put the phone in your pocket. This way, you've got crystal clear audio if you ever want to use any of the footage you've shot on YouTube, etc.

Obviously the ideal setup will cover 360 degrees around you, with the ability to capture any license plate on a vehicle that passes you. Some of the pricey bike cameras do not guarantee license plate capture and you can’t find persistent positive reviews for any of those cameras either.

One solution is to purchase 2 good quality water/weatherproof cameras which can be less expensive than the bike/go pro models, and to rig them up on your own. You can get a chest or helmet mount or you can mount it to your handle bars. Then mount the back camera to your saddle or rack. It might take a little DIY creativity but it’s totally doable.

Here’s a recommendation- https://www.amazon.com/Crosstour-Underwater-Waterproof-Wide-Angle-Rechargeable/dp/B074319MZZ

Very inexpensive and the package list includes bike and helmet mounts. Reviewers state that you can see license plate numbers with this camera, as well as people texting while driving. Not the best battery life, so depending on your commute length this may not work, but you can search around amazon for other models ..

u/OvervektNorsk · 2 pointsr/bikecommuting

I have the Lightdow6000. Works like a charm. I bought a couple of extra accessories, but the one I ordered from Amazon came with a ton of them.

The buttons are cheap, hell the whole camera is, but it's held up so far. Waterproof case works well, we've had it out to the lake and the kids took it to Grandma's pool.

It can be a long process to get the movies on to your computer, but I use an App called FinalCam on the iPhone where you can remote view the camera and watch the movies.

I'm very happy with it at the price I paid $49. Right now they're at $52 https://www.amazon.com/Lightdow-LD6000-Sports-Action-Camera/dp/B00XC46S2U

The most important thing with these cameras is to get a fast MicroSD card. One that writes faster...spend more on the MicroSD card and it will work fine.

Thank you. Pulled straight off my Sony HDRAS100 Action Cam. I put some compression on the audio so it was headphone friendly but I did nothing to the image. I've been very impressed with both the image sabilization and the image quality in general.

Check out /r/BikeCammers and /r/CyclistsWithCameras. Plenty of people do ride with cameras on their helmet, body, or frame.

You have gotten some truly high-end recommendations on here. If you're only interested in trying out the whole dash-cam thing, I recommend the Yi Action Camera. It's a decent mid-range camera. You could pick up some cheap mounts or straps and the whole thing wouldn't set you back more that $80, and you could see how you feel about filming your rides.

It was nerve racking and the wind wasn't helping at all. Plus I alway sit to fly back home so it was interesting.
I used this for the pan on the time lapse. Best $20 on camera gear in a while

the Sonys are challenging the GoPros. you should consider the AS200V because it has build in SteadyShot which is important for less shaky Videos. (or else you have to edit in Post and that results in warping)

https://www.amazon.com/Sony-HDR-AS200V-Action-Cam-Wi-Fi/dp/B00R1COCVI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;amp;qid=1483324668&amp;amp;sr=8-1&amp;amp;keywords=AS200V&amp;amp;th=1

i doubt that you would need a 4K action cam but there is also a model for that.

https://www.amazon.com/Sony-FDRX3000-Underwater-Camcorder-White/dp/B01LYSJB8A/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&amp;amp;qid=1483324820&amp;amp;sr=8-2&amp;amp;keywords=FDR-X3000R

All action cams lack in low light performance, so keep that in mind.
if you want to add your Cam to the side of your helmet, you will need this mount as well.

u/annelions · 2 pointsr/beermoney

Yeah, they're legit. I've gotten about $50 from PC tests and they sent me a VERY NICE (https://www.amazon.com/IPEVO-Point-View-USB-Camera/dp/B002UBPBTC) webcam to use for certain types of mobile testing that don't involve installing the app.

Android complains about any non-store app installs. As long as you stick to legit sources (of which UserTesting is one, even if it has issues with Android 4), you shouldn't have any issues. I've never had any problems.

u/TryHardNot · 1 pointr/longboarding

Awesome camera for someone with a budget of like $100 at most? I want something I can use for making edits with friends, but I also want to take nature shots/high res pics of nature and such.

edit: Looking at this one. Any suggestions?

u/wtflee · 1 pointr/Teachers

District gave me an iPevo to use. It's really not that great, but if you have to buy one with your own money.. this one works well enough for me. FPS is not the greatest, but if you write really fast or wave your hands under it, the kids love it.

Cool. Any idea where I can get the same? Oh and how much did it cost you?

I found this from amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/GoPro-CHDHN-302-HERO3-Silver-Edition/dp/B00F3F0EIU/ref=sr_1_6?s=electronics&amp;amp;ie=UTF8&amp;amp;qid=1464070485&amp;amp;sr=1-6&amp;amp;keywords=gopro#customerReviews

Which is the Hero3 Silver with a battery pack for $244. Is that a good price?

BTW Why can't I change the battery pack say after the first dive on a speedboat after drying myself off? Is the GoPro really sensitive?

u/nshane · 2 pointsr/bicycling

For $315 you could run a refurbished Session on your bars, saddle, AND helmet.
I run one on my bars and it's been real fun to watch everyone pass me during races. /s

u/dnalloheoj · 3 pointsr/Pets

In that case the GoPro Mini Hero4 might be a good option: https://www.amazon.com/GoPro-Session-CHDHS-101-Waterproof-Camera/dp/B010H05JMQ

Waterproof and somewhat drop resistant might help with all the shenanigans the dogs get into as well.

Edit: Just saw your reply to the other guy. Nevermind!

u/albop03 · 2 pointsr/DemolitionDerby

how cheap is cheap? i have a hero3 and have beat the crap out of it and its still working. you can get refurbished one on amazon for $140 here
or you can get a knock off for $52 here

if you are going with a 3rd party i would stick with the knock offs that are the same basic shape and fit the go-pro accessories and cases, so it will fit the derby made cases and mounts

u/byxen · 1 pointr/motorcycles

I use the Drift Stealth 2

At $75 it does 1080p @30fps,720p @60fps, and even has wifi. I like it because it's durable, cheap, and pretty damn reliable. It's also pretty small, and won't take up much space on your helmet.

u/addy8 · 5 pointsr/MotoUK

Why does it need to be hidden? Some drivers behave better when they see a camera on your helmet. I guess also for it to be hidden it would need to be pretty small and so not great quality.

If you just want something that doesn't look like a big grey box on your helmet look at the Drift Stealth 2, it's small and light enough that you wont even notice it on your helmet.

u/MJAUO · 2 pointsr/gopro

The competition easily buys one and tears it down so it doesnt really protect anything....it probably is like the YI4K which is sold for 279 with a diving case

GoPro has to buy their sensors from other companies so there is only a limited number of sensors they can use

GoPro can do night videos. You will just have to adjust the settings. It will be noisy though, FYI.

u/koeidels · 2 pointsr/snorkeling

I would have said Sony HDR-AS15. It comes with a waterproof housing, has 1920x1080@60fps recording capability and generally decent quality - all for $130 (what's your definition of cheap BTW?).

The downside is you have to go through a complicated process to prevent fogging inside the housing - or else you'll get 5min of clear footage and the rest will be garbage. (Like replacing the housing with Argon gas - versus water-containing air).

Rather go for a - I know - GoPro Hero Edition. It can go waterproof without a case (so no fogging issues) and cost the same as the Sony - $130.

u/TheDerf · 1 pointr/Harley

Here's the link to the camera I have. : http://www.amazon.com/Lightdow-LD6000-Sports-Action-Camera/dp/B00XC46S2U

Its nothing special but it works fantastic for the price of $50+/- . I'll soon be upgrading to another set up with either a gitup git2 or I might actually buy a Go-Pro we'll see.

u/mc_nibbles · 3 pointsr/modeltrains

You simply need a flat car or something that you can tape a small camera to, and have a loco push it around the layout. Nothing special to it.

The Polaroid Cube is $99, or there is the Gopro Session for $199. If you are looking for something even cheaper, the SJ4000 action camera can be had for about $50 and is pretty good.

I personally have an SJ 4000, and I may try this with my N scale layout. If I do I'll post a sample video.

u/dtviewer · 1 pointr/boating

I do this all the time on my boat.

I use a generic go pro action camera (about $40 amazon) and either a suction mount on the windshield or a clamp mount on the canopy top. (I also use a fish leader as a safety wire). Example:

https://www.amazon.com/Vemont-Underwater-Waterproof-Mounting-Accessories/dp/B07DVX1HQM/ref=sr_1_7?s=photo&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1536609355&amp;sr=1-7&amp;keywords=action+camera&amp;dpID=51kj2Am3pIL&amp;preST=_SY300_QL70_&amp;dpSrc=srch

I run a long usb cable to the glove box and have a $20 usb power bank powering the unit all day. Example: https://www.amazon.com/KMASHI-15000mAh-External-Portable-Powerful/dp/B00JP8MZGK/ref=sr_1_19?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1536609258&amp;sr=8-19&amp;keywords=usb+power+bank

I set the action cam to run all day and use the setting to record either 3 minute or 5 minute clips continuously.

u/MattTilghman · 1 pointr/EarthPorn

Thanks! I made the late-night drive here for a family member's birthday party, and didn't think I'd have time to photograph, so didn't bring my real gear. Still kicking myself for that stupid decision. I just brought a small waterproof point-and-shoot for use during tubing (https://www.amazon.com/Canon-PowerShot-Waterproof-Stabilized-Wide-Angle/dp/B0075SUKIC). But it did the job OK, though I had to do more post-processing work than I would have otherwise.

u/Freesponge · 5 pointsr/wsgy

I bought this a couple months ago for my trip to Estados Unidos Mexicanos. Its a webcam but also useful for when you go outside and want to livestream buying KFC in 1080p60FPS.

u/jarofpeanutbutter · 1 pointr/gopro

I use this. I managed to get it for $11 awhile back. The cool thing is that it supports phones and the phone mount can be removed to put anything that has a 1/4 thread. You can also mount it on a tripod if need be.

It's essentially a more versatile version of the baking timer. The downfall is that if you want a full 360 view, you have to let it stay for an hour.

u/sparky624 · 1 pointr/gopro

Def a great camera at the new price. i picked one up less than a day after the new announced price. Amazon has a starter bundle for $199 that also includes a 32gig card and head strap mount.

The GoPro Session is their entry-level camera, retails at about $200 compared to their other cameras which go for $400-500. I'm no expert but I haven't really heard any good things about it. If OP is going to invest in an action camera I'd suggest saving up a little bit more and buying a more established model.

It has been rebranded in GoPro’s new lineup

u/TrackIR_Support · 1 pointr/EliteDangerous

Hello,

The TrackIR 3 will work as long as you have the Vector Expansion to go along with it, and the TrackIR 4 is roughly $93 from amazon right now with Prime shipping if you have that option. http://www.amazon.com/Natural-Point-TrackIR-Tracking-System/dp/B000EP3BAC/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&amp;amp;qid=1451414292&amp;amp;sr=8-2&amp;amp;keywords=TrackIR

I would suggest going with the TrackIR 4 at minimum because it doesn't require the Vector Expansion, and the ones from Amazon are brand new units as well.

I personally have a Hero3 I won five years ago in a video contest, Crosstour Action Camera I use for my rear on my commuter (when I remember to charge it). And for my race bike I have my Fly6(ce), but I will use it on my commuter if I forget to charge my other rear camera.

Here is a list of common ones:

Inexpensive (&lt; $100)

  • Handlebar and Helmet Mount included, very low quality video

u/Oleaster · 0 pointsr/educationalgifs

If you want to use a phone, you can get something like this that will slowly rotate while you record. If it's captured in high enough definition, you can also do it in post.

u/ElusiveWooD · 3 pointsr/EliteDangerous

Another option for those considering picking up headtracking could be the older version. Track IR 4 works quite well and goes for $95. No need for pro clip, I've been using it for the past few months and the passive reflectors have served their purpose flawlessly.

I've installed Sony HDR ASV100 cameras in the club and their image sensor is so good you don't need additional lighting. highly recommended

u/Smaskifa · 2 pointsr/bikecommuting

I tried a Contour Roam 3 and was quite disappointed. Very shaky video, and the mount fastener was not at all secure, resulting in camera launching from bike to road. Also the brightness setting didn't seem to work at all. The sky was way too bright on mine, and setting it to the minimum setting in the config program didn't seem to have any effect.

I then got a Sony AS15 which is FAR better, though out of your price range at about $160. It's an older model camera, but it can do 1080p 60fps. I usually do 30fps, though as I found that even very fast SD cards could not handle the record speed and would result in glitchy artifacts. Also, 60fps videos take up roughly twice as much storage space.

Here are a couple sample videos shot with the Sony AS15:

My Sony HDR-AS15 has the wrong profile for the shot you did with your GoPro.

70 kts is fine. I think you are simply touching down too early. You want to avoid the ground for as long as possible, floating in ground effect until it stalls. Finer and quicker elevator input and practice should do the trick. But you're doing fine right now, so no worries. :)

GoPro Session Refurb $110

I use one of these on my helmet. No problems. Easy to use. Records 1080p60 no problem. Low light is pretty good. internal battery means you need to charge it after about 2 hours of running at 1080p60 but that's continuous. It'll last multiple days if you're only recording in 20-30 minute stints on roads.

u/RangerPretzel · 1 pointr/BikeCammers

The Drift Stealth 2 gets recommended here a lot.

As does the Contour Roam3 as well.

The model with the live remote is also at its lowest historical: http://www.amazon.com/Sony-HDRAS100V-Video-Camera-White/dp/B00HNJWSH4/. However, the general consensus is the remote stinks and your phone with app is a better option.

I just bought 20 of these (for a ridiculous underwater wedding in January) and there is still stock. I've been looking for a cam with better low light than the Go Pro, with image stabilization and less fish-eye. After spending the last month asking online, this is the answer.

This is the only thing I can find for that price with a mic input but it's an action cam with no zoom and fixed focus. Probably pretty wide angle.

You could try a used old Canon rebel, but they have a bad autogain issue (fixable with Magic Lantern) and awful awful useless autofocus (bad mix with a large sensor, you will be constantly out of focus).
