Thanks- I've helped friends get their albums out, and now that I've worked on mine, I figured it would be good to document all the steps I had to take to do it. It's not hard, but there are a lot of little things that you want to make sure get taken care of.

  1. Splitting the tracks was natural for me based on the way I planned out my set. I pretty much knew where the splits were going to be before I recorded it. I had bits that I knew would work well together, and I arranged them so they would be after one another, allowing me to make them be on the same track. I'm not much of a one-liner type, so I didn't have the issue of putting completely different jokes one after another, and I had pretty natural stopping points for each. If I was, I'd probably just do a few jokes per track. If I had a callback that was just a couple jokes after the first one, I'd try to keep those on the same track. Think of the tracks as stand-alone releases. Try to make it so that someone will get all the jokes even if they never heard the earlier jokes on the album. Check out how Hedberg handled it on Mitch All Together: http://www.amazon.com/Mitch-All-Together-Hedberg/dp/B0000DZ3HR
  2. I think I got across all the major things people should do- record more than one show, do some test recording, hire some help if at all possible. There are always things I'd want to do differently. I'm not wild about the camera angle we had on one of the shots, and I wish we had zoomed in a bit more, but the angle I'd really like to have wasn't physically possible to get in the room I was in. I wish I had run all of the audio recording onto a digital audio recorder so I didn't have to sync it all later. That was a giant pain in the ass. But in the grand scheme of things, for a project with essentially no budget, I'm very happy with what I've got as an end result.
  3. I've sent it off for online distribution, but it's not officially released anywhere until May 9th, so I won't know for a while what the numbers are. I made enough off the door at the shows we recorded to pay the camera crew, so I was able to record it for essentially nothing. It was worth it for me just to have a good 45 minute demo tape that I can now send to bookers. Until now, all the good tape that I've had has been 20-25 minutes, so I'm happy about that. It was also nice to do that much time here in LA- it's pretty rare to get to do that much stage time for me, since I largely feature on the road right now, and I'm hoping this tape will help me get into rooms as a headliner.

Not fair! That's some tricky stuff mainly because it's not technically "music" but I'll do my best to find them. I guess in this sense both our statements are true because I can't prove that this is easily torrentable, though when you said "obscure" I didn't think you meant stuff this obscure.

edit: ok you got me here! Here's what I found though.

Cliff Arquettes albums can be found easily in vinyl format. If you bought them and had them mailed to me I would gladly rip them to mp3 or flac and send them to you if you don't have a record player.

I'm a student too and I'm only in my first year but I'm also freaked out about this ;~;

  1. My first day of college last August. I'm not good at making friends and I didn't have any friends in any of my classes. I also sort of panic when I'm alone in a crowd of people. I was kinda panicking silently during my first class, but I actually made several friends by the end of the day. So, things went better than expected.

  2. A CD from one of my favorite comedians. Obviously funny.

  3. Don't sweat the petty stuff and don't pet the sweaty stuff

  4. Calm down. Everything will work out, dear o:

  5. Surprises are pretty awesome o:

  6. Can't wait~!

    Thanks for the contest o:

Watts' "Why Shit So Crazy" cd and dvd (which features Fuck Shit Stack) of live shows from around the Brooklyn area is absolutely genius. He's very absurd in his comedy, forthright in his lifestyle, and insightful and genuine with a lot of his songs. I also found his flow of conscious style and wordplay/association to be quite artistic. With a lot of playful editing and visual stylization, I think he really invites a deeper look at the material and it's potential meaning as a work of art, and boy is there a lot with which to work.

I rave, but I do think it's that good and have spent a lot of time watching it and thinking about it. To be honest, it's a wonderful stoner film (or while tripping) as well because of the combination of comedy, music, visuals, and shortish 53 minute length, although by no means exclusively so. I believe it's up on youtube in parts if you do a little searching. I obviously recommend supporting the artist--I did--so here's an amazon link, both of them together for $11:

Tig Notaro's is hands down the best comedy album I've ever heard. It's funny yes, very funny, but its the best because I honestly think its what comedy is supposed to be.

For those who don't know, Tig was going through a rough patch. With relationships, and deaths close to her, and then she got cancer.

And then TWO WEEKS LATER she got on stage and talked about it. Laughed in its face.

Amazing.

Edit: Here's an Amazon link. Its on iTunes and shit too. http://www.amazon.com/Live-Tig-Notaro/dp/B00AR9GK8A

"Here's Tom with the weather..." I love that Tool used the Hicks stuff on Ænima.

EDIT: This thread has inspired me to purchase this - I had a friend i worked with YEARS ago who told me about "Ninja Bachelor Party" and this has the entire film. awesome.

Not a sleepwalker myself, but if you're looking for an awesome and interesting story about sleepwalking, check out Mike Birbiglia's live comedy album Sleepwalk With Me, which is also now an indie movie by the same name. Check out the trailer here.

What about Andy Daly? His "Nine Sweaters" series involved silly costumes and was hilarious: http://www.amazon.com/Nine-Sweaters-Andrew-Daly/dp/B00G5AT5BE

Or Seth Galifianakis? Or the Walsh Brothers? Or any live Comedy Bang Bang show?

There's a ton of great silly costume comedy.

Could have been a straight steal... we'll never know. In any case, if you are a stand-up comedy fan definitely check out the Bobcat (comeback?) album linked above... great stuff.

Just ordered his new album Unreleased. It should be golden! So glad I got the chance to see him perform before he passed on. I miss him so much, he was always my favorite guest on O and A and was such a brilliant speaker.

u/function13 · 92 pointsr/AskReddit

Haha. Its funny, but is your friend Nick Swardson? Cause that's one of his first jokes on the Party CD.

EDIT
Grammar.

u/wharpua · 15 pointsr/funny

That joke formed the title of one of his comedy albums of a live set he did, which is pretty good:

I Don't Mean to Insult You, But You Look Like Bobcat Goldthwait

One bit I remember from it had Bobcat talking about filming that scene from Blow when Johnny Depp and Paul Reubens got him to sample their completely pure product. Him and Depp were comparing recent run-ins with the law (Depp with some Drunk & Disorderly thing, Goldthwait for accidentally starting a fire while doing a guest spot on the Tonight Show), and they were like, “Probation. You?” “Community Service.” Then they look at Reubens: “Anywaaaayyysss...”

u/QuickPhix · 2 pointsr/StandUpComedy

Some of that (guess which parts!) was from his album I don't mean to insult you but you look like Bobcat Goldthwaith

Some good stuff on there.

u/Irishlicious · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Not sure if it'll be your kind of music but I'll keep suggesting things as I learn more about your favorite music!
And this is a comedy album by Kathy Griffin from my wishlist [http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002OVED74/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=228KZ46X0S7PO&coliid=IT4CL9JNX7LQ6] (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002OVED74/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=228KZ46X0S7PO&coliid=IT4CL9JNX7LQ6)

Take your pick! I'm pretty sure both are offering MP3 downloads with the CD, Amazon through their AutoRip thing and CD Baby sends a code.

Lets not forget about his first cd as well. It comes with a dvd with his original Comedy Central presents and some old music videos.

There’s a half hour Comedy Central special that precedes Words Words Words. It’s available on the DVD that accompanies this CD, which was all of the songs Bo wrote in high school. The DVD also has all of his old YouTube videos from his bedroom.

Don't call it a comeback.

No, really. Don't. He's doing a benefit concert to help Thomas' nephew, not doing another movie or anything. Don't get me wrong, it's awesome, but this is only slightly more of a return than his CD of klezmer music.
