Alright so we’re not carless but a one car family. So while my husband has the car for work I do all the running around with the kid (and baby when he’s done cooking) alone. Also when our oldest was born we lived in Germany and I grew up in a big city. Most people walk or take the bus/subway there.

We have tried several things.

car seat since we do have a car and needed to drive to and from the hospital we kind of needed one. We bought a Graco snug fit car seat while it was on sale. With base and beltway. It also was airline approved since we knew we’d be flying with baby and having baby have her own seat in the plane made things so much easier on us during the transatlantic flight.

Stroller(s)
We have bought 4. Super expensive to super cheap umbrella stroller.

• expensive stroller: we bought this one in Germany. I love it. It’s super versatile, you can take the bassinet part off and carry baby while sleeping in there wherever you need. You can use the bassinet as a sleeping place when visiting people. It swings a bit or you can extent tiny feet that will block the swinging motion.
  The sport seat can be turned forward or backward. The springs are amazing!! I literally pushed the thing through fields and grass and little one sleep away happily.
  The only negative thing I’ve found is that it doesn’t have free moving front wheels. And it is bulky. It’s also a bit wide for american sidewalks.
  
  
• umbrella stroller: utter crap. I hate it. While it’s nice you can fold it up and it barely takes up space. My arms where to short so I always have to hunch over, it’s noisy, i kept kicking the wheels/axle because apparently i make too large steps. Not fun.
  
  
• Graco click connect snugrider: fit perfectly for our car seat. We used this while at the airport since we didn’t want to bring the expensive stroller out of fear that it’ll get damaged when checking it at the terminal. We bought that one on sale for $60 and it did perform amazingly for what we needed it to.
  
  
• Baby Trend Jogging stroller: bought this when we moved to the states and our dd was a bit older (15 months) my husband was away for 2 weeks (with the car) and I needed something easier to manage on limited american sidewalk space. We live on a military base so I can do all the shopping and medical stuff by foot. It works great. The only thing I’m not too happy with is the harness. It looks a bit loose and is hard to fit to a smaller child.
  
  
  So when it comes to strollers I honestly would have rather spent a bit more money on a jogging stroller than buying the $600 german monster, so I’d have the same comfort for baby as the $600 one but smaller and more manageable. I hope that makes sense. In Germany the $600 one was amazing. But Germany is a bit better laid out for pedestrians than the US. Maybe a bit smaller than the one we got but quality wise and versatility wise it’s my winner.
  
  Baby Carriers
  I absolutely adore them. We/I have tried a few.
  
  
• Moby Wrap: nice way to get used to wrapping babies and very comfortable to wear. However since the material is stretchy I couldn’t really relax and just not have a hand on baby because i always felt like o have to redo it and re tighten it.
  
  
• Ring Sling: no thank you. Our baby was a super chunk and carrying the weight on one side of my hip gave me so much back pain. So much hip pain and the rings pushed into my skin and bruised me.
  
  
• Soft Structured Baby Carrier: we have a Tula Baby Carrier and it’s amazing. You can carry your baby on your chest (no you can’t forward face baby. That is not good for their hips. Ever. In any carrier. Just because a carrier offers that option doesn’t mean it’s good for their hip development) and when they’re old enough to hold their heads up reliably on your back like a backpack. The weight is distributed evenly throughout your shoulders/back/hip. Yes you’ll have some back pain at the end of a long day. But you do have that if you’re lugging around any backpack. We carried our daughter a lot. My husband loved it because she’d fall asleep on his chest when we were walking, shopping, sightseeing or hiking. Also keeps Baby grabbers at bay lol. And if your wife wants to nurse, you can nurse while baby is in the carrier! That’s a game changer! It takes practice and especially in a SSC an older baby who knows how to nurse and latch.
  
  
• Woven Wrap Carrier: we haven’t gotten to try it yet since we lost the baby we bought it for and our rainbow is still cooking. But I hope it’ll take away the feeling of having to rewrap because the material doesn’t stretch.
  
  
  So for living in a big city I’d recommend having a small, agile stroller and definitely a baby carrier. Especially if you go shopping you can put the groceries into the stroller and push baby. If you just want to be out and about a soft structured carrier (SSC) is worth its weight in gold. And you’re more mobile and fit into crowded places like the subway easier.

Check with your insurance and hospital and make sure you have total coverage. If you can or have an HSA start saving money now so you can pay for the delivery with some nice tax-free money. If you have the means, you can usually negotiate a pay now/today price with the hospital and save money. A normal delivery is anywhere from $6k to $10k usually.

Be with your wife. The first trimester is rocky. She will probably be hormonal, unstable, unsure, nauseted and hungry. So be present, supportive and always have snacks. Also whatever you did she's right and you're wrong. Period. Just go with it.

Other notable milestones.... Second trimester she is usually over the sickness and really active so be ready for some adventures.

Towards the end of the second trimester it's not uncommon for her to want to nest. So be thinking about where the baby will go. I personally had to paint ceiling, walls, and put in new flooring. Start hunting for cheap furniture you'll need. Got most things cheap at IKEA personally or from friends. Having it all ready around month 7 or 8 was good. You hope your little one doesn't come early but you never know - so be prepared!

Consider a rocking chair/ glider. Great for chilling with a new born. You'll both be scared a lot of those first nights and appreciate it. It helps with breast feeding too.

Have plenty of sheets, blankets, towels, etc. Ready for baby. Practice swaddlling a small pillow or a cat or ecen small dig. Become a swaddlling pro. Newborns jitter while they sleep and can essentially wake themselves up. Swaddlling prevents this and helps them sleep longer and better. Sleep will be the most prized thing you and your wife can have those first 6 months.

If your wife plans on breast feeding... Start researching breast pumps. Very useful if you're wife plans on working it returning to work after leave. Your insurance/HSA may help cover the cost. A good one can run about $300.

I highly recommend a boppy pillow. They're great for holding newborns. Napping. And breast/bottle feeding. They're good for tummy too.

Around month 7 or 8 your wife may get serious about a stroller. Shop around. Consider them an investment don't be afraid to have 2 or 3 to meet your needs. I recommend a jogger if you plan on actually running with your baby. But definitely consider a compact umbrella stroller for travelling as joggers can he massive even when folded. Also around third trimester get a good carseat system that you like. Consider multiple cars, bases, and stroller comparability. No right answer here just lots of preferences. But get one early and install it early. And learn how to install it early. You'll be exhausted after the delivery and hanging out in the hospital parking lot with your wife and newborn for an hour while you figure it out then is not ideal. Trust me. Get it early and become a car seat ninja so it's right every time and you can do it effortlessly.

Also pack a bag with a change of clothes for both of you and some newborn clothes in a range of sizes so you can exit the hospital in style.

Establish a care with a physician you like and a clinic. You'll have lots of follow-ups, well child checks, vaccines, and tests that first year.

Be prepared when you go out. The best thing you can do is be an effective packer and anticipate mom and babies needs. Breast feeding supplies, diapers, extra clothes, etc. Even going out for 2 hrs. Have a bag ready. Etc.

Meal prep before your due date if you can. I had a bunch of frozen stuff prepped. You'll be zonked beyond belief.

Make sure your wife feels sexy and desirable throughout the pregnancy and afterwards. Her body changed a lot and she can begin to have a lot of negative thoughts. Plus sex is always good for everyone. 😃

On the advice of friends, I got a Pack and Play to use as a cosleeper, as well as an extra one for the living area. I'm getting two cribs that can convert to toddler beds, but we plan to only set up one at first. My ideal set up would be to have a non-mini Arm's reach cosleeper in the bedroom, but I haven't yet found one at reasonable price.

Some babies love swings and others dislike them, so I'm starting with one swing, a rock n play, and a vibrator/bouncer and I'm going to see which item is most popular. I've been told that all of those can cause head deformities if the babies are in them for too long, so I have two maya wraps, two slings, and an ergo so we wear them.

I went with the Chicco keyfit car seat wise since it had the highest rating on consumer reports and, after playing with what friends had, I liked it the best. The chicco cortina together is very nice and I loved it when I tried it out, but it wouldn't fit in my car, so I found a used Snap N Go for $25 instead. I decided to get that style instead of the side-by-side because I've heard of people having problems fitting the side-by-side in small doorways.

In addition to the double stroller, I also got a Chicco keyfit caddy because I plan on wear one baby and push the other around.

I decided to get the car seat strollers for when they are young because I want to make things as simple as possible when I'm still new to this whole parenting thing. I also want to try out a single versus a double stroller since I know people who prefer each, and the frame strollers are small enough that I can fit both in my car.

I've been using craigslist, a local message board, and Mothers of Multiples consignment sales to get good deals on a lot of items, so in the end, I expect to spend less on my strollers than many people pay for one new one. I'm buying the crib and carseat new, and I've gotten a few other items as gifts, but everything else is used because I'd rather be overstocked and try out items than find myself lacking something useful later.

As far as books go, I highly recommend When You're Expecting Twins, Triplets and Quads because of its scientific, fact filled approach. Mothering Multiples for breast feeding techniques. I'd also recommend going to your library and checking out various books on raising twins. I can't remember all of the books I found helpful because I read so many. For general child care, Happiest Baby on the Block is a must read (or see, there's a DVD). My friend who had a premature baby said that this book saved her life. At first she thought her daughter just didn't like being swaddled, but it turned out that you are supposed to swaddle premature babies differently than full term ones. Now that her daughter is properly swaddled, she's much calmer. That book also inspired me to spend the money on a sleep sheep which is currently kidnapped by a friend.

Another thing that you may want to consider is cloth diapering. I've attended a few Mother of Multiples groups, and cloth diapering has been repeated many times as a way to save money on diapers. Even though I live in a small town, there are local stores and groups for parents to share techniques and tips on cloth diapering. Mine are due to November, so I haven't personally tried it out, but on the advice of other multiple members, I have a bunch of premature diapers for when they are newborn, and a growing collection of cloth (bought used to save money) for once they are bigger. Since I'm having two boys, I'm also making/buying cloth wipes so I can avoid pee mishaps during changing time. You can also buy wash cloths in bulk that perform a similar function, but I've priced making my own or buying used as cheaper.

Google this and read all the articles you can to find what works for you. It's very manageable, a little like a circus but keep a good attitude and you will fly fine, lots of good comments here already!

Our items: Carry-on with laptop, diaper-bag backpack, and a Coleman soft cooler to keep milk frozen + other food, **stroller (Summer-infant 3D-flip, awesome stroller!), and Ergobaby baby carrier!

Security: Read the websites and pack according to the rules, have one of you (mom) can carry all the baby stuff. Be very nice to them, they are doing their jobs, and will help you through, the stroller may be x-rayed. One of you will walk through with the baby, make sure you don't ding if you can avoid it to make life easier.

Flight: Entertain, feed, snuggle, sleep, bounce, etc. Even learning the parts of the plane can be entertainment like opening the tray, armrests, etc. Obviously attempt to restrain jr from kicking! We didn't have to walk the baby up and down the aisle, but some parents do that, do whatever works.

Flight/Changing: I change the baby on the plane, and have those blue plastic diaper bags and fill one with wipes and put that and a diaper in my pocket, and take an extra to throw out the smelly diaper. No need to bring a full diaper bag. The baby may slide around during turbulence, and laugh, be prepared. :)

Layover: There are often kids play stations around, if not there's lots for a 7mo to be entertained with in the real world. Stroller is great for naps.

Time changes: Switch to the new time right away and hold as best as possible, there will be a transition period so just go with it.

We've done a good bit, always been fine.

First... get this stroller. It was a life saver when getting on the buses and other transportation. And it fits in the overhead compartment on the plane.

We've been a few times on our own so we rode most of the rides already and weren't too worried if we didn't get to ride anything. We went for my daughter's first birthday in April and then went back for the 4th of July and we're going again for Labor day. The first trip was fun, but we had to fly with formula, which was a lot to carry around. Luckily we went with a cousin so she was a big help and made rider swap more fun since we weren't riding by ourselves. Our daughter got her first haircut in magic kingdom where she got a certificate with a lock of her hair to keep. She loved the frozen ride in Epcot. She loved all the princesses and people, but wasn't too keen on the characters in masks like Mickey and Goofy etc. When we went on July 4th she was off formula so that was a big help lol. We got to ride the Navi River journey and I think we had more fun watching her react to the ride than the actual ride. She loved it! We went to the Hoop-Dee-Doo Revue and she was clapping and dancing along with that. She still didn't like the characters in masks. She took naps in the stroller and we'd take breaks in secluded areas with AC and we tried walking through the shops in the parks to stay in the AC as much as possible. We never went back to the room until the end of the day. We had a couple of reservations at some resort restaurants so sometimes we get to the resort early so we could relax in the lobby. I can't wait for labor day as now she's started walking and talking a lot more and will probably react to the rides and characters differently. So that will be fun to watch.

Everyone is different. Some really like the diaper genie. I don't because it's annoying. I also use our changing tables but many don't.

I love our bottle sanitizer even though we breastfeed. It's nice to have for pump parts and bottles when we do use them.

Fleece sleep sacks. Carters runs 0-9 months and they do fit at 0 and looks like they'll fit our beefy baby for a while.

You can search for "large size" in the Stroller category on Amazon. The top result is the Britax B-Agile. I don't have that one but I love everything else from Britax, it's great quality. Only $227 new, up to 55 pounds and one of the reviews says it works for a child currently 42 inches long.

I have the Baby Jogger City Mini. My 5-year-old still fits in it just fine. I love how easily it folds. Maximum weight is 50 pounds. They have "head height" dimensions on their website, you could measure how many inches your son's head is from a chair when he's sitting.

The City Mini GT is a little larger, up to 65 pounds and a few more inches in head height. It's more than $300, but if you search Craigslist I'd be surprised if you couldn't find a used one in really good condition if you're willing to pay $200 and up.

There are lots more! 41 inches and 38 lbs is not at all too large for the right class of stroller. It just won't work for strollers optimized for small babies, and it won't work for some "lightweight" strollers.

If you're just looking for a decent backup when you can't babywear- I've really been pleased with the Kolcraft Cloud Plus Lightweight Stroller.

I originally bought the Chico stroller because it fit the car seat and looked super plush, but I wore my son so much I just ever used it.

We bought the Kolcraft stroller when we needed something light weight and portable for vacation. I love it because it folds up with one hand, and it gets pretty small, and is pretty lightweight. It has decent storage underneath and has become my go-to choice for the zoo.

Only downfall really is that I wouldn't recommend it for tiny babies, but once they can sit up, it's great. Also I'm pretty tall and it feels short to me, but that's true of the chicco stroller too.

The user above had a great point about returns - definitely register where you can return easily. But also put out the word for Amazon gift cards - if you don't have Prime now, you may want to consider it, Subscribe & Save + Amazon mom is definitely the cheapest place to get brand name diapers. Target brand dipes are probably similarly priced though, if you can use them (for some reason, they gave my kids rashes, though I know SO many who loved them.)

I loved the double snap n' go stroller frame that carries two carseats, we probably used it for nearly a year - lighter and more compact that any other stroller you'll use. (LOL I see that they've improved it now to "stadium seating" - terming which I find hilarious, but looks like it makes it even more compact, which would have been awesome!)

Don't bother with bedding sets, that was probably my biggest regret (you shouldn't use the bumpers, you can't use the blanket for a year (and even then, baby won't stay under it, so it's pointless after that), so you're basically paying $100+ for a sheet, dust ruffle and MAYBE a single curtain (have two windows? You'll have to buy another.))

Check out your local Mothers of Twins Club. In my area, they have resales a few times a year where members can sell their used baby stuff, we got SO much from them. Good things to look for are things like swings, bouncys (I got mine for $3!), exersaucers, the playmat gym things... (And in later years, toys (this is a few years off, but look for tricycles!!) and books. I never had a lot of luck with clothes, it seems that all the early goers get the best stuff) Chances are, the next sale is coming up VERY soon (the two in my area are this coming weekend!) (oh, and looking at other responses - check for nursing pillows, boppys, and bottles too!)

I travel a lot with my LO, and a couple of things have made all the difference for me: the GB pockit+ stroller is KEY. It’s not the smoothest ride, but when you’re trying to fit everything in a cab or rental car you will thank the good lord you have it. Also, the Evenflo LX tribute car seat. I use it exclusively for travel, it’s suuuuuuper light weight (clutch when trying to get everything in or out of the airport) but a great car seat. It’s also a cinch to install and uninstall in Uber’s when you want to be fast.

And: stroller clips, you’ll find a million uses when traveling (I used them the clip the hotel blinds closed during nap time, or clip a muslin blanket over LO like a canopy during a long car ride to stay out of the sun.)

If your baby still uses bottles there’s also a great travel bottle wash kit and drying rack that is my go to. Travel with the kiddo is so special, happy to chat more if you want more info! Good luck!

I have a McClaren that I like, but I think in that price range they’re all pretty similar.

If you’re considering a second baby in the future you might also look at the Joovy Caboose.. I finally got one after being jealous of it for ages and I love it. I take just the baby (10 months) out in it all the time, but my older loves it too and it’s got a pretty decent basket when she’s not riding in it. Plus it’s super lightweight and easy to fold. Sort of like a much bigger umbrella stroller. I love it and I’m selling our UppaBaby because I can’t think when I’d ever want to use it again.

Disclaimer: There's really no theme to our nursery, despite the abundance of giraffes and Poohs. I already owned all of these Winnie the Pooh stuffed bears...he's a lifelong love of mine, and I just think giraffes are neat.

TOP FIVE

1. Crib: Graco Benton 5-in-1 in Pebble Gray. I got a really, really good deal on this through amazon, because the box it came in was damaged and they couldn't guarantee that the crib itself wouldn't have some superficial damage. I wasn't bothered by the prospect, and luckily it turned out I didn't have to be! Crib was in perfect shape and I got it for 50% its normal price.
   
2. Mobile: unfortunately, I think this particular style of mobile is sold out, but I got it from Sorrel & Fern on Amazon. Here is a similar style, though it's woodland themed.
   
3. Blinds: we had some old pull cord blinds before, which were some of the first things to go. I got these magnetic blinds here. I will say they're a liiittle too big for the size window we have but nothing a little adjusting can't fix. They were super easy to install, too.
   
4. Marquee 'J': I love this so much. I don't even know why.
   
5. We got a lot of hand me down furniture from friends and family - our changing table, dresser, and the recliner I have set up in my nursing corner. I think my favorite contribution from family is the hand-made giraffe that my Aunt knit for him. I know it took her a lot of time and I adore it.
   
6. Bonus stroller: My MIL bought this for us, which I'm really grateful for. We live 2 blocks away from a sizable park and I wanted something that would be easy to handle on the walking trails.
   
7. Bonus floating shelves: I had a hell of a time installing these, but that was a fight between me and the drywall than it was the fault of the shelves themselves.

I have a Chicco Bravo Trio stroller and love it. My son is 15 months and far from outgrowing it.

I also have a Summer Infant 3D Lite. I don't use it as much but my mom uses it a lot (I keep it at her house, for now). We'll be using it when we fly to visit family in March, though. It's also a highly rated stroller, though I can see how a kid would mess with the wheels pretty easily on this thing.

I know you're looking for light weight, but have you considered something like a stragon? I have a Keenz 7S that is my absolute favorite mobile device for my son. He's strapped in (which is great because he's a climber), can't get to the wheels at all, and I have SO.MUCH.STORAGE. I take this thing to the zoo, the park, on holiday trips (halloween, christmas tree farm), and once my son is old enough to places like Disneyland. It's actually the only wagon that's allowed in Disneyland. Definitely one of my favorite purchases so far - it'll last us looooooong after my son has grown out of it. And if we have another kid it'll take the place of a double stroller!

So for strollers we went around in circles trying to find the perfect one that would fit two car seats and still be a great stroller down the road. I don't think this exists for twins. We ended up doing a cheap snap-and-go frame stroller for the first 6 months (this one) and then got the Bob duallie stroller for when they're older. I love the frame stroller because it's so light I can pop it out of the car myself and it's so cheap I don't worry about it getting beat up. A lot of the great side by side strollers can't adapt to hold two infant seats for early on. And bouncy seats ([this one] (http://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Price-CFB88-Comfort-Curve-Bouncer/dp/B00NEO5UQS/ref=sr_1_14?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1452611655&sr=1-14&keywords=bouncy+seat)) were my lifesaver on maternity leave. I'd just bring them around the house with me and then I could always put one baby down. With the vibration turned on and bouncing it with my foot I could keep one calm while I nursed the other even if she was super fussy.

Yeah, the more I thought about it that way, the more comfortable I was buying a seat for our LO on our recent trip. I completely understand wanting to avoid the cost of an extra seat, but it is weird that you can just hold a baby and have to store away your bags.

With that mindset, we brought our car seat on board and strapped our 4 month old in, and left her strapped in for takeoff and landing (statistically, that's the most likely time for any injuries. When you're cruising at altitude, you're really really likely to be fine. Granted, you're really really likely to be fine during any flight, but if there's a risky period, it's take off and landing). Anytime she was in the seat for sleeping, she was buckled in.

The seat is a little cumbersome, sure, but it's really like 5 minutes of carrying it between boarding and leaving the plane. And you can just use the seatbelt to strap it in (directions in the manual).

We boarded early and I fed her while everyone else was boarding (it was helpful to be in the back rows for this). Then I buckled her in. On the 4 take offs we experienced, she fell asleep as soon as the jet engines turned on (another benefit to being in the back). Once while she was a tiny bit fussy during a landing, I alternated between giving her a pacifier and my knuckle to suck on while shaking a new toy in front of her.

We brought our stroller, put the car seat on it for walking around the airports and then gate-checked it in a bag (http://www.amazon.com/J-L-Childress-Standard-Double-Strollers/dp/B003554H9M). Again, it was cumbersome for like 5-10 minutes during security and at the gate, but we had to walk a ton through the airport and it was nice to have it then.

As far as stuff to bring - new toys, multiple pacifiers, diapers/wipes/change of clothes. And try to limit your luggage and bring things you can wear on your back!

I'll admit I'm a bit of a stroller snob, this option might seem kind of expensive but I think it's worth it! It's lightweight, folds like a dream and the best wheels for a lightweight stroller. I used this when I was working in Philly and we did tons of walking.

I have the Nuna Mixx2 which I LOVE it! The wheels and suspension are amazing! But it's bigger and not as lightweight.

I plan on getting the same exact car seat (better sooner than later at this point)! I however decided against the Travel System. I love the car seat, has great reviews, great safety ratings, and the price is under $200, which is great for my father who is buying it for me. I read mixed reviews on the stroller, and as a FTM I figure I may want a different stroller all together by the time he's big enough to ditch the car-seat as part of the stroller. A used stroller is a great idea (holy crap though it’s still $400 used??). Our experience:

Thought we would baby wear everywhere. I’m also a minimalist + we had a small car, so had all these opinions about baby wearing vs strollers. Well exclusive baby wearing didn’t happen for a lot of reasons!

1. She was born very very small and wraps and carriers felt unsafe and dangerous for a while until she leveled up in chunk
   
   
2. Our daughter didn’t like them anyway until about 2 months!
   
   
3. We live in a big city but also have a car and drive a lot of places. The transfer from a carseat to a wrap/carrier is much more inconvenient than the transfer from a travel system car seat to a stroller. So for example, this mommy newborn class that I went to constantly was only accessible by car. If I were exclusively baby wearing, then I would have to stand outside my car on a steep hill and fiddle to get the wrap on, wake my newborn up to get them into the wrap and settled, then repeat in reverse when we returned to the car (I’ve done this several times. Pro tip: put on your wrap before you sit down to drive). With a travel system car seat, you quietly pop them out and into the stroller and go on your way.
   
   
4. As they get older, you sometimes carry a lot of stuff. Snacks, diapers, water, change of clothes for accidents, wipes, jacket... yes you can carry baby on your front and a backpack on your back, but for me that was pretty uncomfortable after a certain weight. Having a stroller is actually really handy as a “place to hold all that stuff.” A trip to the zoo with a stroller is pretty convenient in my opinion. And again, I’m a minimalist... but you can’t escape from this reality easily.
   
   
5. Eventually, baby gets too big to wear on your front! Then where do you carry your stuff?? I never figured that out because we pretty much just switched to stroller at that point. I’m sure pro-level-baby-wearers have techniques tho.
   
   Side note: our hospital in San Francisco REQUIRED us to have a car seat and leave with baby in the car seat, even if you don’t have a car and plan on taking public transit.
   
   Thought about getting this universal car seat carrier instead of a stroller, instead got this Britax Agile travel system and are very happy with it (and still use the stroller at 2.5 yrs). It’s very slim and un-fiddly and snaps shut/opens effortlessly.

We got your second option, in the jogger style. My husband really wanted the 3-wheels with rubber, bike-like tires because it's easier over uneven terrain, which we have a lot of here. I like it because it has a wide wheel base that I can't easily knock over because I'm dumb, and between the Snugride it came with and the stroller itself, it should last the kid until he's 50lbs. Baby's not here, so I haven't actually put it into serious use yet, but we've been strapping the cats in and wheeling them around the house (they're thrilled, let me tell you) and stuff and I like how easy it is to use and disconnect/fold up.

It also has a neat little tray for parents that you can put things in, cupholders, a little cellphone holder that holds actually a huge variety of cellphones (if not vertical, then horizontal works great for bigger ones), and a big ol' basket underneath it, which I am embarrassingly excited about.

C5-7 quadriplegic. If he's a Para, chances are he's got more function than I... If I can figure it out, surely he can; just get one in his hands and let him play. If not yours, that's what store demo units are for.

Regarding car seats/strollers... We have the Chicco KeyFit 30 car seats with the Baby Trend Universal Double Snap-N-Go Stroller. After using them for a little over a month, I would highly recommend both. The car seats are easy to use, provide good head support, can carry newborns as small as 4 pounds (which may be necessary when you're having twins!), aren't super expensive, and they're nice looking car seats that are built well in my opinion. And, while the stroller isn't a long-term option, it's so convenient - we use it almost every day on walks with our dog and haven't ever had a problem.

Unfortunately, there aren't very many double stroller options that will fit two car seats, so the snap-and-go seemed like the best option to start with. We're going to see how often we use the stroller versus baby carriers and, when the girls are big enough, we'll decide what long-term double stroller would fit our needs (i.e. one that doesn't fit two car seats).

The Evenflo Pivot Modular Travel System is a great budget friendly, but still has all the extra features of a higher end system.

I have the Chicco Urban 6-in-1 Modular Stroller and Chicco Fit2 Infant & Toddler Car Seat it doesn’t come as a set, but the two are compatible to form a travel system type set up with just what comes out the box (no additional attachments to buy). It’s a bit more expensive than the evenflo, but I liked the way it maneuvered and such better than the evenflo when I was testing them out in the store. Plus the KeyFit2 is one of the best car seats on the market (and can be used with premies).

My biggest recommendation is go to the store and physically touch, maneuver, fold, unfold, and attach and detach the car seat for whatever system you are considering. A lot can be learned from reading online reviews and asking for anecdotal reviews, but nothing beats having your hands on a demo model and trying it for yourself.

I looked on Amazon for strollers under $200 with the best reveiws. The way I shop is by deciding on a price I'm comfortable with and then find the product under that price with the best reviews and so far it has worked out. For my first we bought this one:

If the baby falls asleep in the car, it's really really nice to be able to leave them in the carseat and just clip the car seat into a lightweight, super-easy to fold frame. I found it was particularly awesome for grocery shopping; i could do the shopping in ten min while the baby slept, and just put the groceries under the stroller until I got to the checkout line. I'm already watching for one to come up on craigslist!

edit to add: I think the frame-style stroller lasted us most of the first year, so it definitely would hold off the larger purchase and give you time to evaluate options. I did mostly baby-wearing too, but sometimes it was a relief to only carry my own body weight ;)

These are mostly for the toddler and preschooler crowd. As R gets older, we have been leaving more and more of the in-flight toy entertainment at home and relying on the iPad. Since she doesn't get much screen time at home, it's a huge treat for her.

You want the Doona. It’s a car seat with wheels on it. It’s magical. I had so much jealousy when a mom friend showed up with one of these. I wish I’d known!! If wasn’t so close to being out of the bucket when I saw it I would have burned another $500 to get it.

Also have the vista. It rocked as a single and sucks balls as a double. The 2 seats don’t really fit that well and you don’t have good options on arrangements for them. The balance is super weird with that lower seat on so it’s super hard to turn. I hate it. I bought this much cheaper one and haven’t touched my vista since. If you’re set on a higher end stroller I’d look at the city mini (or whichever the double is) because it can be arranged in a more logical way. Or if you’re planning on jogging get a nice jogging stroller. I’m so bitter than my vista didn’t work out. I spent $$$$ tricking it out as a double.

My kids are exactly 2.5 years apart btw. Joovy is a way better combo for them because my daughter wants up and down and the bench seat/stand option is really perfect for her.

(The snoo on the other hand is the best big $ item I bought. It was worth every damn penny)

I looked at both in the store and decided on the Chicco because it was easier to install (it took all of 20 seconds) and because it fit better in my car's tiny back seat. It also just felt sturdier, although I don't know that that's necessarily true.

They're both heavy, so I would highly recommend a snap-on stroller base. I bought the Chicco brand one, but Baby Trend makes one that will work with the KeyFit too. Plus it's cheaper. If this is your first child I would not recommend getting a convertible car seat just yet. You're going to have a hard enough time maneuvering your newborn in to that carseat and getting him or her strapped in safely with it sitting on a flat surface in front of you. Now imagine trying to shove your little bundle of joy through the small space between the carseat and the back seat, get it all strapped in and comfy, buckled up without pinching anything, all while supporting its floppy little head. And you can forget about not waking him or her up! Oh, and did I mention you'll be leaning over and in to the car to do this? Yeah, not so good for your back either.

It is perfect for our needs and maybe will the bill for you: many positions for the babies, either in regular seats or car seats, and inline. The newer version appears to be shorter than my old version, which looks nice. Universal car seat adapters. No third seat, but they do sell universal gliding boards that attach at the back. My singleton just turned 3 before the twins were born, and had been forced to start walking on errands early on in my pregnancy because I couldn't lift him into strollers or carts any more. The contours stroller, at least my version, has a toddler handle on either side and he holds onto it and walks. We do 95% of the household errands with myself and the three kids, all under age 4. I strongly, strongly advise against a convertible for a newborn.

You should really get an infant carseat then buy a convertible one once baby outgrows the infant one. The infant carseat is the one you can remove from the car to carry baby in, which is a HUGE bonus - you don't have to wake baby when you're out running errands, he can just stay sleeping while you carry him around. Having to take baby out of the seat and put him back in while running errands will piss him off and it's very annoying. Also, you'll have to find something to put him in while you're in the store, for example. It's also SO much easier to buckle him in the seat in the house then click it into the car.

You can also buy a travel system where the carseat clicks into a stroller frame - HUGE plus! This is what we had: https://www.amazon.com/Chicco-Keyfit-Caddy-Stroller-Frame/dp/B005JDOYF0 & the matching Chicco Keyfit 30 carseat.

I understand wanting to save money, but your life will be so so so much easier with an infant carseat. I'd find another item to save money on if money is an issue.

Also, convertible carseats don't have the neck support that infant ones do because they don't recline as much, so your newborn's head will flop forward, which is a safety issue on its own (positional asphyxiation).

We used this one for our single stroller on a couple flights but the material is pretty thin and basically just protects against scratches and dirt but wouldn’t do much if it gets handled roughly. We had no issues with it though and it worked fine for gate checking, nothing got broken. We’re going to Disney in December though and taking our nice double stroller and I’ve been thinking of getting a nicer bag for it, like maybe a thicker one with more padding for more protection!

We have this. It is quite possibly the best investment for baby things we made. Being a bigger guy, it is the perfect size for me to push, and the big wheels roll over just about anything. It was the only thing we needed during a 4 day trip to disneyland, and people kept mistaking it for a Bob, which is more than twice as expensive. Super awesome.

I own the Graco jogger (http://www.amazon.com/Graco-FastAction-Connect-Stroller-Tangerine/dp/B00AHVR4KG) and love it. I haven't actually jogged with it but it's great on uneven pavement, flatish grassy areas when we've been hiking, and the gravel trails around my house. My only complaint is that the sun shade doesn't lock in the fully extended position, I solve that issue with some baby sunglasses for my 6 mo old. Even fully extended I would have to make him wear them since sunshades don't do a whole lot unless the sun is directly overhead. It fits comfortably in my trunk (Prius) and is easy enough to fold and unfold.

We have a City Select that is quite nice. A little heavy for my wife, but most of the solidly built strollers (Read: not plastic) are in the same ball park. If you plan on doing a lot of jogging with the baby, you should look into a model specifically for that, otherwise, we decided that this was a pretty good balance of rugged and practical.

We originally got the adapters that allow the car seat to click directly into the stroller. If/when you have another kid, you can also get a second seat and it's very configurable. There are adapters for most major brands of car seats.

For car seats, we have a Graco Click Connect 35 - (Can't find a link right now. Discontinued?) which we used when the kid was an infant. Now that she's bigger, we have an Evenflo Symphony DLX that I really like. (We actually have 2 - one for each car). It can be used for infants, but does not easily remove from the car and click into a stroller or make for a good place for the baby to sleep when out and about. This means that you will need a car seat that can go from birth to about 25-30lbs and then 25-30lbs to 70+.

In point number 1 in the post above it claims "dragging behind a very large folded stroller that was too big for the overhead bin or to go under a seat. ", and this is obviously not true. In fact, it seems the stroller was already in the overhead when this happened, watch the woman with the package with pink ribbon who's trying to explain to the captain about what happened and you can see she indicates the flight attendant was pulling the stroller down from the overhead.

Also this claim: "After about 40 minutes she deplanes again this time telling all of the passengers, who are now becoming vocal in support of the flight crew" sounds like complete BS, everybody on the video we saw was aghast at what the flight attendant had done and at the :50 mark of original video you can hear passenger say that the flight attendant struck the woman with the stroller while trying to be forceful.

Get the keyfit stroller frame, not the travel system with the big stroller. SO much lighter, better basket space and accessibility, cheaper, and once they're out of the car seat you can just get a cheaper umbrella stroller cause they'll be old enough. We love our chicco and their customer service is awesome. Also if kid is asleep it's so much better to be able to move their seat instead of pulling them out and waking them up.

We quickly found that having small, lightweight strollers was the way to go. We originally bought the Chicco car seat, the snap-in base, and the matching stroller. The only problem was the stroller was giant and heavy, and just a hassle to use.

Luckily we found out they also sold a car seat frame/stroller only, and they also sold a Lite-a-way "Plus" (not the other one, you cannot snap the car seat into it) stroller that also snaps the car seat in. We love them. We use the frame one almost exclusively! It folds up very small, it's super light and easy to handle, and my wife can throw the baby bag and her purse in the bottom.

I got the Chicco Bravo travel system after doing a lot of research. Set-up was super easy for both the stroller and the car seat, and they both seem to be quality for the money. The system also had excellent reviews online.

We've used this one three times now and it's great. It's in between a regular stroller and an umbrella. It's lightweight and easy to fold but still has storage underneath and on the handle. I've also appended the storage with this saddle bag, which is just so helpful because you don't have to empty it in order to fold the stroller, which is great for getting on and off the buses!

We found that for the first six months or so we didn't use a traditional stroller, we only used a Snap and Go. We could snap the car seats into the stroller directly, unsnap and snap into the car, pack the stroller easily into the back, and then when we arrived unsnap out of the car and into the stroller. Once they got a little older we moved over to a Baby Jogger and that was great. But in the beginning I'm surprised no one has mentioned this - it was the ONLY stroller we used for the first six months or so.

Truth right here. We only use a stroller to walk to places near our home. As soon as a subway is involved, it's all carrier all the time. You can use an Ergo/Tula/wrap style from infant to toddler. I have friends who still carry their three year old around in a Tula. (Mine would not be so patient...)

But we do have a stroller: Britax B-Agile, which is basically the same as the CityMini recommended elsewhere. We were given an Uppababy Chameleon by some friends who moved out of the city and it was too big so we passed it on too. Honestly, for the city even the B-Agile is too big. I have gear envy for these guys: gb Pockit or Quinny Yezz.

I got this umbrella stroller. We put it together yesterday an DH was able to VERY comfortably push it. He's not super tall 6'1 but it looked like it'd be fine even if he was taller. Some of the reviews said it's a good stroller for tall dads.

We got the Graco FastAction Jogging Stroller. It's heavy and a bugger to lift in and out of the trunk. But it's sturdy, it's got two cup holders and it's a pretty good price. I especially love that it's easy to put away/fold up. All you gotta do is pull the strap, and the stroller folds up. It's got a phone holder too but iPhones are too big to fit.

We got the stroller that the carseat can just snap into. Our 1MO only likes the stroller if you're willing to really zig-zag a lot and make it pretty bouncy. This one

We are about to get a Ring Sling, because holy hell, the Moby wrap is hot AF. The moby should come with a warning that it's only comfortable if the air temp is less than 80. Even better probably 70.

I would absolutely not get a $900 stroller, unless you're very wealthy and just want it. But if that's the case, I'd probably rather have the overly expensive Snoo Smart Sleeper than an overly expensive stroller, since sleep is gonna be the thing you aren't getting enough of.

I was also on this flight, the lady had been told at a previous gate(her statement when he was telling her she needed to check it) she could bring on as carry on. She demonstrated to the attendant how small it got, and boy it got small I want one of these myself now(looks like it was some sort of magic quad fold thing that made it look almost like a briefcase). She was afraid the stroller would not be returned at the stop and be forced to walk around with all her stuff and the baby. In fact at one point another flight attendant came back with the stroller and put it in over head storage.

I'm pretty sure they didn't have spare crew for the flight and in order to keep the flight from getting further delayed they let him stay and set her up with a new flight. It's not the best outcome as he should have been removed the second he got all riled up but I can understand doing this rather than making the other people on the plane wait 1-2 hours for a backup to come. This is just my thought on it though. I really would like to make sure they made it home as the babies were playing with me and a couple of other people in the boarding gate before the flight.

14lbs weight and i you look at their site they have a bag cover that if used you'd wouldn't think it was a stroller.

If you're never going to be on rough terrain, this one is great. My parents got it for when we visit them - they wanted something lightweight but full-featured and this one is great. I almost like it more than our stroller at home.

This is the stroller car seat system a few of my mom friends have, it came up at a great price on sale! Not as fancy as something like an uppababy but I've heard good things.

We are registered for this Graco jogger/travel system. One of my good mama friends has it and recommended it to us. I like that the wheels can be refilled using an air pump and it's a good price. Only downside is that it is a little clunky, but they have it at Target and we liked it when we went in to look at strollers.

I got this one and I really like it. I did get it for $130 though on Prime Day. It's our only stroller and it's survived the last 3 months so far. I did get the next gen dock from Graco though and use that one as a back up the new ones are so nice. We liked this one partially for the car seat that comes with it as well. My wife did a mess of research and decided this was her seat partially because it is fairly lightweight.

This is my favorite! So much so that we bought it again for kiddo 2. The inflatable tires make it such a smooth ride and the car seat snaps into the jogger and base in the car. It’s awesome!

We got this stroller, which folds up small enough it fits underneath the seat in front of you. The flight attendants will be amazed. It’s durable enough for common city use, but I wouldn’t take it off-roading.

Also depending on your brand you can buy a car seat bag for your car seat. We did for ours and it came with backpack straps and rollers which were a lifesaver.

I'm Canadian and car seat blankets are a pretty standard thing here.

They stay attached to the seat and the straps are threaded through specific holes. They also make them for some strollers. Add some mittens and a toque and you're good for keeping warm in a car seat.

Instead of a travel system, you can get a carseat and base, and then just a stroller frame like this one. You strap the carseat in. It folds up flat and is less cumbersome than a whole stroller. Agreed with other posters that rolling this to the gate, gate-checking it and the seat, and retrieving it afterward is really easy. I've done it many times.

If you bring your stroller spend the $30 on Amazon to get a travel bag for it. Then you’re not getting airplane grease and grime on your nice stroller.

With my second (and last) child we bought a really nice umbrella stroller. It’s the GB Qbit....I think. But it folds up to the size of a briefcase. Super easy for going through airport security and gate checking.

It's a tad longer than a typical umbrella stroller, but I just needed a good alternative because I'm too pregnant to lift my jogger anymore. It has storage and even a cup holder, so I love it. And you can adjust the angle for how a baby sits in it!

We went with the Graco Modes Jogger Travel System we got ours for a little under $200.00.

They also have a normal type Graco Modes Travel System. If you shop around/keep an eye out, you can get this for around $200.00 as well.

They have a jogger, and normal stroller. The car seat easily just clicks into both the click connect base, and the stroller.

The nice thing we found with them, was the Click Connect Base is only $35.00. So we just have one in each vehicle, and the car seat just snaps into/out of the base, and the stroller. The base also has a knob that you can adjust, that modifies the incline of the base, so if your car has a steeper seat, you can even it out a bit.

I opted for a Chicco travel system over the Graco because the carseat gets better reviews. It's under $400 on Amazon. Here's the Lucie's List review of the carseat and here's a link to the travel system I chose on Amazon.

Haven't used it yet, but it gets good reviews.

I can vouch for these - with twins I have to use a stroller for almost all of my grocery shopping and I hang the heavy-duty Trader Joe's canvas bags on the hooks. It works really well, but definitely take the groceries off before you take the kid out!

We were fortunate enough to be gifted the Chicco Keyfit 30 system and the accompanying stroller frame. These things were THE BEST. The base installs in less than a minute and then you just plop the car seat in it and it clicks and secures into place. To get it out you just press in the little handle deal and it comes right out. Easy AF and such a time and back saver. Then if you get the stroller frame the seat will click into that the same way. It folds up with ease and has plenty of storage space. All the while not really having to disturb the little one. We used that shit ALL the time. Only downside is it's pretty expensive, but you're looking at a stroller, carseat and base that will last quite a while.

You can find these used and cheap all the time. It's a simple solution. Usually the used ones are in good shape because they're not used long term.

I have recently fallen deeply in love with Baby Joggers City Select. It’s really sturdy, has a lot of configurations, and you can add a second seat. Amazon typically has good discounts and Buy Buy Baby will price match.

I was able to get the Lux model on a steeeeep discount just by stalking the amazon price, but some of the colors also are always discounted ($629 reg, $440 discount).

Usually the brands are pretty siloed and won't play well together. You may be able to purchase an adapter but it seems unlikely. However, you could try the stroller frame made by Baby Trend, they advertise it as universal. I don't think the seat will click in but it has straps to make it secure on the frame. Yeah, it's a thing, carseats fitting on a stroller isn't universal (stupid, I know). Some has to be for example, Graco carseat to Graco stroller. Some strollers of a different brand will actually allow you to purchase adapters so a different carseat would fit (though not many would).

Most companies that makes carseats/strollers are just trying to make more money by being inconvenient. A real bummer! So I would check for your carseat compatibility to your stroller, just in case!

I think this one is the one I have with a front wheel - it's not a "true" jogger...and it works well in city areas, indoor/outdoor, etc...But it isn't ideal for actual jogging/running (which is fine, cuz I don't do either).

I liked it b/c it was a slightly smaller profile than a traditional 4 wheel stroller to make it easier to move in crowds.

My LO was born in March and it was still pretty cold when we had him. We used this winter car seat cover for the first few months and plan on using it again this winter when it starts to get cold.

Do you have a bucket car seat? If so you can just get one of these car seat stroller thingie which is cheap, small, and would do the job :)

If you plan on using the stroller on gravel, I'd ditch both of those options. You're going to want something that has all terrain tires. Those plastic tires will be very hard to push through gravel and the ride will be pretty rough. I started out with a Graco stroller similar to that one. Once I realized how horrible it was on different terrains, I got a Graco jogging stroller.

I was in the same boat. I registered for a BOB Revolution and one of the infant carseat adapter stroller/frames for the first 6 months. To be honest, I just don't feel like hauling the BOB everywhere from the get go. I intend on having the BOB be used for most outings later on and getting a cheap umbrella stroller some point down the road.

Before 6 months or so, you want something that you can hook your infant carseat into. Some people go with "travel systems" like this one.
Or you can go with a Snap n Go for the infant stage and get a different stroller for later.

Definitely some sort of city jogger stroller, the closest match I could find was this. The configuration in the pic is the bassinet

This. We did a TON of research on car seat safety before getting the Chicco KeyFit 30. It was a happy coincidence that this jogger also kicks ass. It has lasted us through 22 months of walks, and I have no doubt it’ll be in top shape even when our soon-to-be second-born outgrows it.

The only downside is that it’s kind of heavy and bulky. The sun shade is completely useless. AFAIK it's the best light stroller if the kid is under 6 months old because the seat reclines. That combined with the light weight is really the only reason we picked this one.

To provide a different perspective, we used the double snap-n-go for the first 9m to a year. It snaps in the cars seats and you are off. It's relatively cheap for the amount of use you will get. After that you can consider what you will want. Your older child will be almost 4 by the end of the twin's first year and may not need the standing space....

Probably this jogging stroller. I'm a SAHM now, and the only times I can run kid-free are either early in the morning (when it's still dark) or after my kids (aged 2 and 6) are in bed, when it's dark. A jogging stroller would allow me to take my 2yr old out on runs with me. I can run on the treadmill at the gym, but it's hard to train for races (I have 2 10ks coming up in November and December) on a treadmill, since races are run outdoors.

We gate checked our stroller and car seat (infant size). I got the $60 bags to wrap both in (this brand) and was glad I did. It was pouring rain at our destination, and I guess it took them a while to bring things up from below (and they went uncovered a bit) because the bags were soaked, but the car seat was dry after.

If your stroller has smaller bits (i.e. ours had adapters between the stroller & car seat that I popped off) I would take those with you onto the plane. One of the adapters fell out of the travel bag in the plane luggage area, and we nearly lost it.

We didn't travel with the car seat base.

You can have a sturdy stroller that also has a snap-in option for your car seat. Not sure what reviews you saw that said the strollers were collapsing on their own, but it might have more to do with the method by which they collapse than having a car seat attached. Just a guess.

You might want to consider a travel system. You can get the Chicco KeyFit with base and a stroller that will last through the toddler years for $310. Another option is to get the stroller you’ve already picked, and get a car seat caddy to use while your baby is still an infant. The Chicco caddy is $100.
