Elegant, timeless, and classy, but with a dark edge?
That is basically my MO, too (though I am a similarly aged female).
My suggestion - find a fashion icon of sorts. Mine happens to be Daphne Guinness - she's regal, weird, and beautiful. Elegance without being cliche.
Some examples for men: Blixa Bargeld, Karl Lagerfeld, Marilyn Manson (when he is a little less shock rocky and more refined), etc. Also - I am living for the clothing/wardrobe decisions of the Meth's on Altered Carbon (just imagine this in black).
This is how I handle my wardrobe:
Once you've mastered some of the above items - you can start adding items in. Be okay with a small curated wardrobe and build from there.
Here are some links to some ideas:
Clothing - POWHA
Clothing - Zolnar
Clothing - Jean Kutzarov
Accessory - Scarf
Jewelry - Raven Ranch
Jewlery - Martha Rotten
Jewelry - MRD
Exquisite Corpse Boutique - custom timepieces, Jewelry, etc. This is a friend of mine. He makes custom pieces that are to die for (and affordable!). He made my wedding plugs.
More inspiration - Juha Arvid Helminen
Let me know if you need more examples, have questions, or need clarification. :)
Edit: Just realized I didn't talk hair.
Find a salon near you (not sure where you are - but look for quirky and younger - NOT a chain place if you can help it). It won't be cheap - but a nice haircut is worth it. I recommend going all black, except for a swath of platinum blonde (it isn't cheap to maintain) - but you can use this as your "party piece". Leaving it blond is great, but if you want to get crazy, you can occasionally shock it with some color (which bleeds out quickly).
Something like this or this coupled with a stripe like this.
If none of these are your hair type - describe it and I will try to find some better suggestions.
I know this is a cheap option, but Foster Grant Ironman Hurdle
I have had a pair that I just retired after about a year. For around 15-20, that's pretty damn good. Only reason is because I dropped them and scratched them in such a way this last time (not the first drop, by far) that I couldn't put up with the scratch. :(
Ones before that... same deal. It's always my fault, not the glasses.
Before that? I... forgot them. I hope whoever has them likes them.. Heh.
They are wraps, and they have straight earhooks, so they shield your eyes very well for UV, and will slide right into a full face motorcycle helmet.
I will buy a pair anytime I see them, because I got in the habit with the previous two 'favorite' sunglasses, having them break in some way (nose rests destroy themselves, screwed in lenses screws let go), but these seem to last pretty well even with my ham handedness.
Well, that habit, and also they seem to be getting harder to find at the stores. So now I'm stockpiling them because I want them 20 years from now. I think I have 6 or 7 pair, and lookin' for more. Amazon to the rescue! :) (Edit: Well, maybe Target.)
Anyway, I've found them to be fairly hardy, mainly because the design of the center is really pretty good, holds the lenses and a nice rest setup for the nose. Perfect fit. For me, anyway. Your face may vary on fit.
Also hella dark but not too much. Love these so much. And inexpensive to boot. Maybe they'll be good for you too.
Note: Sweep Vs, or other similar looks from the Ironman aren't gonna cut it. Bad nose rests, bad lens holders, curved/angled earhooks, all those in some combination throws them out. Don't get those, they won't last. Only these if you get this type from Ironman.
Papa Johns worker with Irma right around the corner.
Top Row (from left to right):
Oakley SI Half Jacket 2.0: $72 with knockoff polarized mirrored lenses bought on amazon here for $20.
Leatherman Pro Wave: Not a special edition of Wave, just bought through Leatherman's Pro program. $55 with the clip found here for $5.
Timex Ironman Classic 30: Great $30-$40 digital watch that through everything has yet to hiccup, let alone fail, once.
iPhone 7: Matte Black. I'm one of those people who actually doesn't love or hate apple of android. I just happen to have a macbook and an iPhone, and that works for me.
Otterbox Symmetry Series: Wanted a $35 case to match my phone and got one. Lint and dust all over the port openings and inside the case?! Works great, just likes to get dirty.
Oakley SI Flak Beta Prism: $117 through Oakley's standard issue, these are the steel frames thanks to some confusing customer service calls. Polarized lenses with their mumbo jumbo technology actually make colors pop a bit.
Middle Row:
Black Leather Wallet: I don't know, probably found at Kohls or something. Nothing special, just gets the job done.
Field Notes Expedition: Awesome $13 notebooks that use a plasticy paper for writing in any conditions. Finally halfway through my first book, as I like to use all of the real estate available on each page. A bit worn, but character, right?
Amazon Special Wristwatch: There's so much conflicting branding everywhere, who knows who makes it. Anyway, have had it for a while and it seems to tell time. The band is a bit weird, but what would one expect for $16?
Car Keys: RIP me. I drive a minivan. sigh. Oh well, it's what I got.
Bottom Row:
Spyderco Tenacious: Perfect $40 knife if you don't want a beater and also don't want your wallet to scream in agony. I just need a good whetstone set to be able to do it justice.
Bose Soundsport Earbuds: Stay in my weird ears. I exercise regularly, but that doesn't mean I like it. Music helps me forget the lactic acid burning my muscles. They don't make the audio-only ones anymore, so here's a $99 pair for apple devices.
Wristbands: Air Force Academy in blue and Domestic Violence in purple. I wear these because I don't want to expose myself to the world of "Etsy." yikes.
Chrome Fisher Space Pen Bullet With Clip: ~$20 and so damn slippery. Awesome pen for being a pen, but I need something more practical for greasy hands. Any ideas? Not looking for anything more than like 30 bucks.
Kizer Vagnino Velox 2: A beautiful flipper on ballbearings. HOLY cow this thing flies out with vengeance and feels like a million bucks. A true gentleman's folder. However, I am not a gentleman... I see some ugly grip tape in it's future to make up for impracticality of no serrations on the back of the blade or handle for grip. Before anyone tries to complain about a 17 yr old with a $200 knife, I found 'er on Massdrop for $82 after shipping. Would I say it is worth the 13 hours of work needed to pay for it? Yes. Yes I would.
You've touched on one of my biggest frustrations of getting old: fumbling with reading glasses. The following discussion is anything but cool. No laughing or judgment from my millennial colleagues. And stay off of my damned lawn!
What I eventually landed on were bifocal or progressive reading glasses. When I get really busy behind the bar, I put them on and leave them on. You want a smaller pair (ie no aviators) so you can easily look over and under the glasses while wearing them. If all you need is help with tiny print, get a bifocal pair. If you have issues with mid-distance as well, like reading the the POS, get the progressives. The bifocals work great for me. Another option is half-frame or slim readers. They're easy to look over, under and around. This is what I keep at home for reading. A simple Amazon or Google search should turn up hundreds of options. And if you really want to look like a geek, pick up a glasses chain, rope or strap (especially if you work beach or poolside). I often use one, or I'm forever searching for my readers when I need them.
All of these option take a shift or two to get used to. So don't start out on a crazy weeded night. It was a fairly quick adjustment for me and I rarely even notice them anymore, only that I can see what I need to, when I need to.
~Good luck
I can't say for certain, but because it's on TV I would guess that Hyde's glasses were barely tinted at all IRL. Even the slightest glasses tint comes off way stronger under studio lights (think of how one way mirrors make the brighter side more reflective/less transparent). Beyond that, we usually had enough clarity through Hyde's glasses that we could see his eyes fairly clearly. His cheeks are especially clear, indicating the bottom of the gradient might be fully clear at 0% color. The top seems to be some sort of brownish-red color.
This is a bit more purplish-red than brownish red, but it seems pretty close, and it's hard to tell what, exactly, studio lights would do to the coloring. https://www.amazon.com/Aviator-Sunglasses-Gradient-Non-Polarized-Protection/dp/B012K1KD08?ref_=fsclp_pl_dp_1
Here’s a general list. It changes if I’m going into a concert venue vs being at someone’s house.
Trip bag:
Crystal kaleidoscopic glasses - purchased mine from a local consignment store but here’s an example: glasses
Diffraction glasses - these work better with stars or lasers: paper glasses
Water
Bandana/fabric tube mask x3
Essential oils (cinnamon, rose, eucalyptus, orange, and white lotus balm)
Candy (hi chews are the best, gummy bears work in a pinch)
Weighted blanket (small lap pad sized, about 3lbs, I made mine)
Pashmina (I take mine everywhere pretty much anyways)
Notebooks and pens/pencils
Tarot or Oracle cards - my friends and I like to use them during our trips to enhance the self revelation part of tripping
Glow sticks - tie them on some shoe laces and spin them, thank me later
Flow toys (I have poi and used to have light up hula hoops)
Powder dough (baby oil and flour) and salt dough (DIY)
Something cold (usually a canned drink, sometimes ice packs)
Sunglasses
Welcome to a Marlboro free world my friend! I'm almost 7 months nicotine free. Pretty proud of that. It does get easier, I swear!
I use them and got them at some random drugstore. I use them for regular glasses (I am pretty much blind) and prescription sunglasses with pretty big frames, so they definitely fit. The rubber parts are pretty accommodating. It is very nice not having to continuously push my glasses up my nose so they do not fall off my face, especially when it's hot out and I get pretty sweaty.
These look pretty close to what I have: http://www.amazon.com/Chums-Universal-Rope-Eyewear-Retainer/dp/B003CJW93W/ref=pd_sim_sg_3
Well Gospy55! We have a love for max brooks, gummies, sunglasses, and xbox games! My favorite on your list would have to be this
because those are some sweet looking glasses! On my list.. these because no one at work gets my nerd jewelry and I love it. lol I chose the items I chose because I also see you are a musician and I used to study sound engineering, as well as work for a record label. However, I think most people have music in common so I went with the sunglasses and gears of war because we are stylish fun gamers :)
I have the AO Original Pilot in various sizes (55 mm in the airplane so I can tilt them up without breaking the seal on my headset, and 52 mm for normal street wear) and strongly recommend them. Same exact model/style issued as standard to military and NASA aviators for decades. They normally retail for around $99 but I've gotten multiple pairs off Amazon within the past year for as little as $56 with two day shipping.
They're not "cheap" but are still considerably cheaper than Ray-Bans (especially at the $50-70 price point) for what I think is frankly superior quality. Personally, since nothing in aviation is cheap anyhow, I'm more interested in value and these deliver.
Note: I'm sure you know that you probably don't want polarized lenses, especially if you're flying glass.
I'm going to make a statement that FMF may or may not agree with:
How much did you pay for the pair of shoes you wear? Do you go running? How much were those running shoes? Wait, you'll need dress shoes too so there's that cost as well. Now, a typical nice pair of running shoes will cost you about $50 (mine are $100). Don't forget you'll have to buy a new pair every so many months/years as far as any type of shoe goes. The saying goes that you never want to be cheap with anything keeping you separated from the ground. This means get higher quality shoes, sheets, tires, etc. I feel the same way about sunglasses. A pair of Ray-Bans can be found on Amazon for good deals and even though it seems like it's a dent in your pocket, these sunglasses are going to last you decades and still look new. My friend has a pair from '85 and wears those. With Ray-Bans, you get what you pay for and if you get polarized, which I recommend, you'll never go back to the $10 sunglasses.
EDIT: http://www.amazon.com/Ray-Ban-RB4147P-Boyfriend-Polarized-Sunglasses/dp/B0039I4GNC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1396154672&sr=8-1&keywords=Ray-Ban+4147s%3F
Croakies are fantastic. I wear them doing anything from hiking to mountain bike and they've always held on. They really help your glasses fit up nice and snug. Inexpensive and you don't have to worry about multiple pairs of glasses.
I bought [Croakies] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0019LAPSQ/ref=pd_aw_sim_468_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=GKTSDXXH8RWHPZP1JR1H&dpPl=1&dpID=516hh7KTHWL) about 3 years ago for a Universal Trip and strongly recommend. The strap held on strongly and comfortably for the entirety of the Universal trip, two swim classes since then, and a full year of regular wear (I got a pair of glasses that were too heavy of a frame and they would basically fall off my face if I looked down for too long). I like that you can fit these close to your head, so the strap isn't just hanging off the glasses, but rather snugly secured.
I wear glasses all the time when I bike. I used to wear contacts, but stopped when my eyes got too sensitive. I use a strap like this with my normal glasses, and they work well to keep my glasses from slipping down my face. Just make sure the arms of your glasses are thin enough to fit through the sleeves.
I just bought these today. I have a wide head and buying rx glasses sucks, but I have no idea how these will fit, so we'll see! lol. If you see one that's specifically made wide, I'd be interested in finding out!
https://www.amazon.com/Sonline-Sunglasses-Sport-Eyewear-Retainer/dp/B00X9H88QO
I would definitely wear them. You need to have clear vision or you could easily wipe yourself out on a rock or turn or whatever.
My girlfriend bought me a pair of Rayban Boyfriend Flat-Top Polarized sunglasses and I think they're pretty great
https://glofx.com/product/glofx-kaleidoscope-goggles/
If you don't want the goggles you can also look up just normal diffraction glasses cause that's what I use, although they don't stay on when you're headbanging but it doesn't really matter. Just know if you get a really nice glass pair they're heavy. My favorites are like these https://www.amazon.com/Rainbow-OPTX-Intense-Diffraction-Glasses/dp/B00T8QSS7Y/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1493652433&sr=8-1&keywords=diffraction+glasses cause they're quality diffraction but not heavy/nice enough to where you're blown if you lose them
Bonus: This shirt relates, because Rockets blast off from Cape Canaveral. :D
These are the glasses that I use. They are cheap, great quality, and have improved my eye strain ten fold
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0176QRVXY/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
you/ll definitely want a [muscle roller]
(https://www.amazon.com/Fitness-Answered-Training-Products-Massage/dp/B00QH9M6QY/ref=sr_1_8?s=sporting-goods&rps=1&ie=UTF8&qid=1496547036&sr=1-8&keywords=muscle+roller&refinements=p_85%3A2470955011) and or a [foam roller.]
(https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00XM2N06O/?ref=sxts_snpl_3_1_2958657562&qid=1496546822&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_p=2958657562&pf_rd_r=0B9F2GCQNBTXFA72W4BG&pd_rd_wg=EPYcg&pf_rd_s=desktop-signpost&pf_rd_t=301&pd_rd_w=QWUDQ&pf_rd_i=foam+roller&pd_rd_r=MVNCV52NN305QY1TA2G0) lots of standing/walking/dancing takes a toll on your body no matter how old you are.
There are obviously more expensive options but the basics will do you just fine.

Also, these would rule because it is becoming nice outside!
It's up to you, New York, New York!
I'm a little late, but RB 4195 is not bad at all. The 2132's always felt like they're squeezing my head/too small. The 4195's are roughly the same design but with less width on the plastic all around.
The pattern's not quite right, but the keywords are all there I guess: http://hesti9ww.blogspot.co.uk/2012/02/new-tortoise-shell-brown-wayfarer.html
Otherwise keep googling for 'tortoise shell blues brothers shades'.
EDIT: http://www.julienslive.com/view-auctions/catalog/id/79/lot/31644/ - bit more accurate. Nice price tag.
EDITEDIT: Rayban New Wayfarer is what you wanna search for: http://www.amazon.com/Ray-Ban-RB2132-New-Wayfarer-Sunglasses/dp/B003CIP4TE

He's referring to these, the RB2132 New Wayfarer
edit: blucher mocs for me, or camp mocs like beacon said. Everybody's got boat shoes.
I used to use one of these and it worked pretty well.

These are amazing to me. I didnt even know I had eye strain until I put them on for the first time and a sensation in the back of my eye which I was not aware of, went away. It was eye strain.
I have seen the opposite of this done for privacy glasses. Basically, it's a monitor with one of the polarizing screens taken out and fashioned into lenses. Only a person wearing glasses with the missing polarizer as lenses can see the screen of that monitor.

American Optics these feel way more solid than my brother in laws thin framed raybans. they come in different sizes get the same mm size as your wayfarer's. The square style looks less "cop-ish" than the tear drop ones
I've worn glasses to many different concerts in the past and haven't had any issues. However I have in the past used a strap to keep them on my face when playing sports, so perhaps that may be something to consider. Here's an amazon link to such a strap They're not the greatest fashion statement, but they're really functional.
I got your back, bro
