First: Sorry I don't have more photos yet!

THE RECAP

We tried to do our destination wedding an inexpensively as possible as it was combined with our honeymoon, but we definitely splurged on our photographers. They were over 50% of our budget and totally worth it. Our parents and siblings were the only attendees so we ate at the Majestic Yosemite Hotel Dining Room (paid for by his parents), had a ceremony in Cook's Meadow (officiated by my dad), took photos with them before they were freed to explore the park, hiked around for a few hours with our amazing photographers, soaked up the moment at Glacier Point after sunset, then ate some cheesecake and called it a night. We had rented a cabin for the whole family in Yosemite West, which turned out to be totally perfect as a base for a few days.

THE BREAKDOWN

Note: I did not include our airfare as the wedding was a stop on the way to Hawaii for our honeymoon.

  1. Bride

  • Dress: $300, Moonlight Tango T711. I posted about this before; I got it at a wedding dress consignment shop where money goes to cancer support groups in the area. Though technically it was silver, it was pretty blue to me so this counted as my something blue.

  • Alterations: $120. This included removing the crinoline, letting the waist out a hair, and shorting the length.

  • Jewelry: $0. borrowed pearl necklace from mom, other jewelry I had

  • Ring: $1085, custom morganite and rose gold -- in hindsight, I guess this must be my something new

  • Shoes: $0. old hiking boots

  • Hair/Make up: $0. After getting a quote that HMU in Yosemite was an average $750, this was all DIY. And after a windy day a few days before, I decided as I was getting ready for an updo. SIL and MIL totally winged it and it looked amazing (and stayed all dang day).

  1. Groom

  • Sharkskin slim fit suit: $125.75 shipped. We went to Men's Warehouse and found a $600 suit he liked, came home and bought it online. I think this is it. Moral of the story: Men's Warehouse is insanely priced.

  • Slim-fit charcoal vest: $19.99 on Amazon

  • Shirt-stays: $19.99 on Amazon. Another redditor recommended these and Husband says they were a total MUST! Thank you, stranger!

  • Shoes: $0. Regular ol' tennis shoes, safer for climbing around.

  • Peach Tie: Kohl's cash, otherwise $20

  1. Flowers: $61.34. Purchased at Hobby Lobby (I'm so ashamed of that but the colors there were the best match) and assembled. They were padded to hell in my checked suitcase, but survived transit very well.

  2. Ceremony

  • Location: $150 park permit

  • Officiant: $30 for my dad to get a 1-day State of California deputization to conduct the ceremony (he paid this, but I'll include it anyway)

  • Paperwork: $60 for license

  1. Cheesecake: $38 (seriously so delicious)

  2. Photographer, DC Photo in Frenso, CA: $2885.23. 100% worth such a huge part of the budget. Photos were incredible important to us so this was really well spent, in our opinion. They were funny, professional, and man, they knew every cool nook and cranny to try.

    Total: 4,895.30

I don't actually have any idea what the lunch cost, and the 6-bedroom cabin we rented for 3 nights was $2400 but our guests offered to divide the costs and cover it (still less expensive than 4 rooms, 3 nights at the Majestic).

    TAKE AWAYS

When 96,000 acres are burning between the county clerk's office and your ceremony site less than a month before your wedding and the park is indefinitely closed, worrying about small wedding details sure seems silly. I was a pretty relaxed bride anyway, but that put perspective on me that everything was going to happen the way it would happen and no matter what, it was going to be a wonderful day. And besides, the best parts are the things you can't plan.

With only 5 guests, I never expected much attention on our wedding day. I was honestly stunned when we got to the Majestic (our first stop all dressed up) and everyone in the dining room stood and applauded as we entered the room. I couldn't believe this massive room of strangers paused from their own meals, even ordering, to show so much love to a couple of people in fancy clothes. Such a small shared gesture, but it was a very humbling moment to me that made me feel so connected to each of those people. And they were only the first! Every staff person paused as they continued their jobs to congratulate us privately, several people in the gift shop told me how beautiful I looked, and before we even walked out of the hotel, we must've heard congratulations 20 more times. Outside we ran into people before the ceremony, and many more after, who stopped on the sidewalk or trail to tell us congratulations, or offered us kind words of support and advice. Cars full of people would yell "congratulations" out their windows, cheer as they passed, or honked like crazy. In all my research on weddings in Yosemite, I never saw anyone talk about how everyone in the park is so freaking pumped to see a wedding.

People love Love. And it made our wedding so much more special to share our happiness with hundreds of strangers. <3

I work at a very conservative insurance company.
They expect us to dress way nicer now than is typical for IT, because many of our sister companies are in banking/finance.
My advice - push for Dress shirt and slacks with a tie and sport jacket during meetings. A good suit is a liability in a data center, but if it's a dress shirt and slacks you can get by with nice wrinkle free shirts, a decent v neck undershirt, and these : http://www.511tactical.com/covert-khaki-pants.html (snip the zipper pulls off the concealed pockets), and a pair of shirt stays (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00PYKPB3M). Throw in a good pair of dark athletic socks, and a nice belt, and you have a good day to day outfit that holds up in a datacenter environment, and still looks professional. Keep a tailored sport jacket and a couple of tie's in your office, and that way you can quickly step things up for meetings.

It takes a little more thought and alot of peopel were pissed when they pushed the dress code to IT, but I'll be honest- it was the right call. It's subtle, but we started getting better cooperation from some of the other business units, they stopped treating IT like the red headed step child, and started working with us more.

Edit: DURHUR WHY WOULD YOU WEAR SHIRT STAYS IT ISN'T 1900'S ANYMORE!! HERPADERP.
Because if you do any lifting, carrying, squatting, or bending over to reach things in a dress shirt and pants, it totally untucks your shirt and you look like a dumbass always having to tuck it in. Shirt stays solve this problem. Thats why their still popular with police, military personelle, and paramedics. Shirt stays are friggin awesome if your expected to engage in physical activity while wearing a dress shirt. (they also keep your shirt in the most flattering position at all times)

u/stufoonoob · 3 pointsr/AskMenOver30

I'm late here, but hopefully this helps. I think the two things that makes a shirt look "crappy" are the material and not fitting properly.

Not sure of your build but I'm 5'9", 165 lb. I used to wear Express but found that their slim fit was way too tight on my shoulders and their normal ("modern") fit is unbearably large around my waist, so it was always hanging/bunching over my belt and looked horrible. Also the material was kind of junky so they wrinkled easily.

I have found that Banana Republic Grant (their slim fit) shirts fit the best. Good quality fabric and tight around the waist so they're not bunching/hanging out.

Also maybe consider getting a shirt stay. It clasps to the bottom of your shirt and then to your socks and keeps your shirt tucked in all day.

I have also found he Express slim fit suits are inexpensive, and fit/look great. If you check frequently you can get them, or at the very least blazers, for <$200.

u/FalseDmitri · 3 pointsr/actuallesbians

Thanks 😊 I bought these! The straps are kinda thick but I'm pleased with them overall and plan on wearing them more than just for pride! You should definitely find some and try it out!

Edit: oops I forgot I switched to my other account hehe

u/w4itwh4t · 1 pointr/Gentleman

My fellow gentleman you've been missing out: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00PYKPB3M/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_wO8pzbF1CK5XY

You should "actually" try these for a week. I made that mistake at first, but I'm on my 3rd set. Worst-case you try it for a week, don't like it and then simply return it.

I also find that a bamboo cotton undershirt does a fair job at keeping a shirt tucked in.

Additionally a tailored shirt plays a role in this as well of course.

Combine all 3 and this problem is 99% solved. Always good to leave a margin of error. ;D

Note: The metal on these clips tend to rust after a couple years, however, the strap are very soft and comfortable which I why I've reordered from this company. If anyone has used other clips with more durable metal while maintaining the comfort of the straps then please make a recommendation.

That's my 2 cents.

u/WedTexts · 1 pointr/weddingplanning

Yo!
Check these out!! They're basically sock-suspenders. They keep your socks up and your shirt perfectly tucked in. Super useful for the day-of and for any dress-up occasion afterward.

10/10 recommend

u/Kahne_Fan · 1 pointr/loseit

THESE helped me in a big way until I got my hip bones back. I tend to wear an overshirt and an undershirt, so I wore it between them, but I think they would be comfortable against the skin as well. Cheap investment to not moon a store full of people :-D

I have something to share! Undergarment side clip suspenders. They are put on before clothes so no one can tell you're wearing them. And only 2 clips at the sides, so they are super easy/hassle free! Surprised nobody has brought up shirt stays. They are elastic bands that clip to your shirt and loop underneath your feet. They sound nerdy as hell, but work great. Keep everything tucked in, pretty cheap, and very durable. Here's an example:
https://smile.amazon.com/Redbay-Adjustable-Elastic-Strong-Non-Slip/dp/B07G2H6P1B/ref=sr_1_12?keywords=shirt+stay&qid=1563680825&s=gateway&sr=8-12

u/Smerks101 · 2 pointsr/CCW

Id like to add to this because you do almost exactly what I do except I wear mostly t-shirts and live in the desert so a cover garment isnt always possible. I use Hold Up suspenders under my shirt that are very easy on the skin to hold my pants up with my belt barely tightened at all since the tight belt started aggravating my acid reflux.

I also wear wife beater type tank tops under sometimes because it does feel better to have a thin barrier between my light tuck and my skin but its not a requirement for me for comfort.

>I’m super impressed by that belt. His shirt stayed tucked in the whole time.

Try some shirt stays

u/sponge-worthy93 · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

I would avoid "high-rise" jeans, but a normal, not low-rise jean should be the most flattering and will make your butt look better than low-rise.

Have you tried shirt stays?

u/agent_of_entropy · 2 pointsr/nursing

Sweet! I use John Deere suspenders with mine (too much stuff in all those pockets). Had them for 7 years and they're still going strong.

Like OP, I bought these. The clips have a very strong grip. Shouldn't be a problem.

u/enverano · 3 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I think he was actually describing this ones. I actually tried these myself, but they're clearly made for larger men. I'm 5'6 and 130 lbs. Even at the tightest adjustments I couldn't make these fit. I wish these came in sizes.

u/311JL · 26 pointsr/ProtectAndServe

This is an old trick. I did it on my old shirts. Better solution are the stirrup shirt stays that clamp up top with a metal spike. Used them for years and they’ve never come loose. Not once.

Similar to mine without the spike:

u/[deleted] · 2 pointsr/guns

Unbeatable fat guy carry system:

A Wilderness Instructor or other "gun belt." I held off on this for awhile wondering how much of a different a gun belt makes. I carry a light little Glock 26.

It makes a big difference. Like, huge. The belt can literally be used for emergency evaculation and can hold thousands of pounds. But it can be worn as a normal day to day belt as well, right through your belt loops. It will cost a bit but this is something you'll potentially have and use for decades. At some point is might even come in handy for MacGyver stuff, given its strength.

Then what you do is you get yourself some Perry suspenders. These are suspenders that clip onto the belt itself, rather than onto your pants. Together, you could probably carry as much weight as you want on your belt. Positive side-effect is it eliminates ass crackage when you bend over.

Then you throw on an unbuttoned button-down overshirt of some sort - flannel or cotton or whatever.

What I like about this is it enables me to carry as much weight as I need - flashlight, full leatherman, extra mags, without it being an issue.

As for holsters, I use a Bianchi accu-mold OWB holster which rides up high on my side, but my overshirt conceals it. But with this setup you could use anything you want. You can also carry the heaviest gun you want without it pulling your pants down.

u/CyanideRush · 1 pointr/SwingDancing

Having tried two types of shirt stays, I highly recommend the type which look like an inverted women's garter over the Y type which clips to the sock. The Y type gave all manner of discomfort when heavy dancing (from rubbing along my leg). They look like this: https://www.amazon.com/Garter-Style-Shirt-Stays-Adjustable/dp/B07BN1SQML/ref=sr_1_6?keywords=shirt+stay&qid=1564745571&s=gateway&sr=8-6

They're also easier to change when changing shirts without having to completely drop your pants to retrieve the clips as with the Y-type.

u/jdquey · 10 pointsr/malefashionadvice
  1. Cubavera polo shirts. Smooth fabric, has a fancy shine but not overbearing, and typically on sale for $15-$25.
  2. Dress shirt suspender stays. Even if you have a shirt that fits, these suspenders give that extra crisp look for a lot less than a tailor.
  3. Marco Perego silk ties. $19 for the best ties I've ever worn and often receive 2-3 compliments every day I wear them (I got 4 last Sunday wearing this tie with a black John Henry woven shirt (currently out of stock) and red chinos). Speaking of...
  4. John Henry Polished-Twill Woven dress shirts. I got these for $5, now charging $20, but still a steal of a deal.
  5. Any designer jeans, either new or new without tags on eBay. I usually pick up 7 For All Mankind for $30-$40 or David Bitton Buffalo Jeans for about the same. If you have the time, you can bid on the auctions for often 1/4 less.
u/YellowLine · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

I used to have to buy new shirt stays every few months because they'd wear out, elastic wouldn't be stretchy, the clips with rubber stoppers wouldn't hold, and then I bought the kind that have clips with little needles in them. I have never had one come off, and I've used them almost daily for two years. Best shirt stays ever made in my opinion.

That happens no matter what the shirt. It results from you leaning left or right, which pulls the shirt upward on the other side. You can get some stays but honestly I don't think anyone is going to judge you for a little bunching at the waist. It happens to everyone.

u/salamander423 · 17 pointsr/starterpacks

Look for shirt stays.

It may not be how that guy does it, but stays are a viable solution to billowing shirts.

Aside from shirts looking great, people think I've lost ten pounds.

u/WantedWalrus · -1 pointsr/southpark

The dude in the middle seriously needs to get his pants hemmed. The pin stripes are good (to make him look taller since he’s only a few inches above Tom) but those baggy suit pants look ridiculous. Also, brown leather or black leather. Pick one. He’s got a black belt and brown shoes. His tie is also too long for him. He’s got the Trump Tie look.

The guy on the right needs shirt stays or just needs to learn how to tuck his shirt properly and really needs to iron and starch his collar.

The guy on the left needs to fix his tie and get a new shirt. It doesn’t fit him; he can’t even button the top button. That’s why his tie looks so dumb.

I recommend these for wearing under a t-shirt. They're really comfy. As far as with a tucked in shirt, I've never really had to do that. I'm sure there's a way to do it, without a belt, but I haven't really put any thought into it.

u/Mycd · 1 pointr/whatisthisthing

There are other types of suspender fasteners options out there as well.

This type uses clips that grab the pant waistband:
http://www.amazon.com/Dockers-Solid-Suspenders-Black-Size/dp/B002RWJ7YO

And this type loops over a belt.

u/-TheDangerZone · 9 pointsr/frugalmalefashion

Just FYI, look into shirt stays. These keep my shirts tucked and straight all day long. No wrinkles, bunching or mid-day re-tuck ever again. They look like awkward stirrups but after a few wears, I was used to them and they are completely invisible.

u/videoscott · 7 pointsr/malefashionadvice

That's the beauty of the trucker-style, hip-clip. Take a look at the photos on everano's Amazon Link, especially photo 5. One problem with regular suspenders is that as you bend, making your torso effectively shorter, they can loosen and slip off your shoulder. With these, there is no longer a "front" and "back". Both sides terminate to a strong plastic clip, one on each side. The soft elastic, combined with the way they're sewn together, keeps them flat against your torso and snug around your shoulders. When it's time to go #2, it's just "snap, snap" and drop trou. The suspenders stay on your shoulders and out of the way. I have to bend, crouch, reach and crawl at work and have never had a clip come loose, pants slip, or had any discomfort through the day. Seriously, man. $20 will change your life.

u/Dad_Of_2_Boys · 1 pointr/CasualIreland

If it was a top it'd be never fit the same way. It'd keep riding up and ruin the effect.

Now that being said I use shirt garters for special occasions, maybe they'd work with this if you're wearing trousers and socks.

https://www.amazon.com/Worlds-Shirt-Stay-Plus-Y-Style/dp/B00PYKPB3M

u/CutGordianKnot · 3 pointsr/AskMen

As a fellow tall man that has struggled with this I would recommend short hold garters.

They go under your trousers and clip to your shirt to hold them in

see an example here

u/darlasparents · 71 pointsr/gifsthatkeepongiving

Yep, I started wearing shirt stays about two years ago and have worn them every day since. No more tucking my shirt back in 1,000 times a day! These are what I have: https://www.amazon.com/Worlds-Shirt-Stays-Stay-Plus/dp/B00PYKPB3M/ref=sr_1_5_mimg_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1522944633&sr=8-5&keywords=shirt+stays

u/tesfox · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

This is why I stopped wearing suspenders... the clips kept getting loose and popping off... If they're on amazon I may have to pick up a pair...

I'm not sure what part of the human experience I'm forfeiting by trying to keep my shirt tucked in while moving.

If yall don't go out and get some shirt stays and stop looking tacky everytime yall stand up.
