Making a house a home can be tricky! But definitely fun :)

A rug - I personally wouldn't go with orange, because it would be too much for my taste. Blues really pop against orange, so I'd go with this pretty teal colour, and maybe some cushions (these are just some covers but you get the idea!) to pull it all together - but, of course, it depends on the type of orange you've got going on.

Lamp? How about this tetris lamp? Because it's cool, that's why!! Okay, okay. If you want something a little more classy, how about this instead? It's a table lamp, so you'd need to have an end table to go with it. This end table is kind of fun too :)

Or you could go with something like these - they come in multiple colours, so you could mix and match if you wanted.

Personally, I'd get these because I LOVE the colour :) That should tell you something about my taste (I haz none, I know).

For artwork, I like stuff like this - I dunno why, I just like the swirliness. Also this would be awesome, or this.

Yes, I like Banksy. I know. /hangs head.

You should also have some funky coasters for when you have company :)

Be up for sharing and meeting your neighbors. I bring more booze than needed to share with people, invite people to play games, will flip pancakes for breakfast with coffee for whoever stops on by, and chat to random people. My camp ground has becomes a standard place people would come chill out at and it's been fantastic!

You can chill with us! Just shoot me a note when you get here and we can crack a beer in celebration to your first event.

A few other things for camping

  1. shade. Not your tent, but some other form of shade. Your tent will become like an oven during the day.

  2. sunscreen and bug spray!

  3. water

  4. Fans, either handheld fans or small USB powered one, a little breeze is better than none.

  5. bring things to do during the day, there is a lot of downtime, so a few easy games (Uno, beerpong, cards against humanity, "Drunk, stoned, or stupid", etc.) really helps the time fly. Load your cellphones with Movies. I have a new game called fear pong - it's beer pong, but with dares, I really wanna give that game a go!

  6. Bring food for an easy breakfast. Hung over as hell and hungry, having something on hand so you don't have to wait in line to get food, is a godsend. I'll bringing ice coffee in the morning so we can have coffee ready to go in the morning.

  7. a testing kit. A minor point but I always bring a kit, friends find 'stuff' on the ground and I'd rather them know what it is, before they pop it. I've seen a few people just pop it and see what it does.

  8. Take a shower right after the festival! Their are shower rooms (Which is fantastic) but the lines get really long (like a 2hr wait) in the morning. Go take a shower right after the festival with no line and feel super clean.

  9. Have a way to identify your tent in the dark. I used a glowing moon last year (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B077HPFGMJ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

    For the Festival itself

  10. Have a blast

  11. bring a USB glow stick or something, if you need to go to the bathroom, or need to switch venues, having a glow stick that each of you have makes it easier to stay together.

  12. if you're bringing a camel back, put everything inside the camel back into a 1gallon see through ziplock baggie. At security, you can pull the zip lock baggie out, and the security guys can quickly look it over, peak inside your camel back, and your g2g. Security guys also appreciate it as it makes their life WAY easier.

  13. Don't forget to refuel. Between sets, get some food, drink some water, relax a bit

  14. DO NOT GO HARD THURSDAY NIGHT. By Saturday you will be dead and hurting (having made this mistake at EDC before.)
u/RavensAlehouse · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Quite a few actually aren't too bad. Yeah, you can tell they were taken with a phone or low resolution camera, but they do give plenty of detail.

Free route to improve photos: North facing light. Use light from the window/s facing North! It's the most diffused (in this hemisphere lol) and therefore best natural light that won't make things glow or end up as grainy (which outside of being a phone camera, is a lighting issue)... also wiping off the camera part with a soft cloth before shooting. Fingerprints, dust, stuff gets on the surface and can make things hazy and not focus right

Cheapest route: this will help with light diffusion. You will need two lights, one at each side, and cheap little desk lamps like this will do well and allow you to move the light angel as you need. These work well too, you know, whichever is cheaper and easier to get. I know places like Home Depot have the clamp lights, but I'm not sure the price, here I think the small ones are $8 which isn't bad.

Next cheapest: phone upgrade or point and shoot camera! Nothing fancy, not sure how you'd get for close ups because I haven't used a point and shoot in years. I know there's silly attachments for phones that you can add telephoto lenses to or probably macro if they have those now. I've only seen iphone stuff so far though, not sure if it'll work with others

Most expensive route: DSLR + macro lens (or filters, because filters are cheaper lol)

Hey there! Just finished setting up the nursery and writing this from my hospital bed during the induction process. Loved seeing everyone's nurseries!

A few very smart humans before me said to decorate with things that you like or things that can live in the rest of the house. It really stuck with me and with kids toys being so loud, I kept the base elements simple and soft.  Honestly it's my favorite room in the house and both my doggos love to chill in there waiting for their bud to join :)

As others have suggested, light is the primary way to wake them up, but I feel technique matters here. Our bodies are designed to wake up in response to light, we have special receptors in our eyes that are tuned to the blue light spectrum present in natural light. However, if you flash on the lights you are simply asking for them to flip over or cover their face, what you need is a sunrise simulator. This will gradually wake them up over the course of 30-90 minutes and will be much more successful. Here is one that I use that works with most lamps (you will need an incandescent bulb).

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AXL8Q02/ref=wms_ohs_product?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Along this same vein, if you want them to go to bed earlier, try turning down the lights the same time every night to promote sleepiness. Devices such as iPads, TV's, phone, etc emit blue light like it's their job. Make a rule like "no screens after diner".

For more tips, research sleep hygiene. Our internal body clock (the Circadian Rhythm) is controlled by many ques, primarily light, but also routines, exercise, food and disrupted by many of modern world norms. A sudden wake up is neither healthy nor successful for people that are not biologically early birds. Good luck!

u/dalovindj · 3 pointsr/malelivingspace

So I have a two bedroom apartment and I've got a mix of the bulbs, the Hue Gos and the light strips.

I don't use any non-Hue lighting so all of my light is controllable via app and timers. It allows you to create presets, so I have a number of lighting schemes that I really like that get progressively dimmer over the course of an evening and move from brighter colors like greens and oranges and yellows to soft blues and reds and purples as it gets later. It kind of becomes a Pavlovian cue that sleep time is coming. You can also set them on timed transitions - so it may take 30 minutes to slowly transition between the settings. So the light can be always moving slowly into differing colors and brightnesses schemes over the course of the evening.

In the mornings, rather than use an alarm clock, I wake to a gradually rising indoor sunrise where warm orange lights come up over the course of 30 minutes. Such a pleasant way to wake up. Gradual and natural instead of sudden and abrupt.

It's also super cool with voice control via Alexa, Siri, Google Home, etc. I just say things like 'Alexa, chill mode' and the lighting hits a smooth preset I have.

The stuff is expensive, but you can add pieces over time to the network. They are energy efficient and so far have lasted really well. I've not had any fail in 3 or 4 years of using them. I started off just wanting a lightstrip and ended up going whole house.

Life changing.

u/Cupcakehorrrors · 2 pointsr/malelivingspace

No, that'd be fine for your desk though. Something like a salt lamp, a table lamp with a base and shade in neutral colors like this, or maybe something like this? I think if you got the last one in black it would help balance the all the black on the other side of the room.

If you keep your desk, I think you need a taller shelf unit/bookcase for your printer and stuff. If you don't, I'd get a longer desk that can hold the printer on top and keep the wooden cubes underneath. Ikea has tons of cheap table top and leg options. I really like this chair from them and I think the yellow/beige with a black/white base would good in your space. A stand for your macbook would also give you more desk space.
I second the potted plants, some smaller ones for the window sill, and something above the bed. I think your ac doesn't look entirely awful, but the filter probably needs a good dusting.

Overall, this is a huge improvement. Nice job!

u/unfeelingzeal · 1 pointr/lifx

i'll try to get some pictures later today when i get off work.

in the meantime, i see that you're using this floor lamp from ikea, is that right?

how many sockets does it have? is it just one up at the top and one on the arm? if that's the case, i'd recommend you go with a mini on the arm, and an a60 at top. the bigger, brighter top will light up the whole room much better if that lamp is your own source of light, and the mini should cast just enough light to read/study with since it can be aimed over your shoulders onto your desk from behind you.

i actually use this ikea lamp in our study over a giant beanbag chair just for reading, with an a60 inside. although we also have two desk lamps, the big one from ikea illuminates the room nicely on its own at around 80-90% brightness. for reference, our study is roughly 12x10ft.

4mtx8mt, if i'm calculating right...is about 13x26ft? if so, you'd probably want another lamp in that room unless you like to keep things generally darker.

Absolutely love these lamps because they're simple but also look nice if you want a minimalistic setup. I also bought blue spiral bulbs so it illuminates most of the room blue, while the blue LEDs behind and under the desk help with a more focused lighting. You can buy bulbs in any color from Amazon as well.

u/timpster1 · 1 pointr/sleep

Probably not. I think this means you're still tired--also what lumen output or wattage is the light that hurts your eye?

If I wake up earlier than I want to, I find the dimmer outdoor natural light much more pleasing than bright incandescent light.

So if you're using even a 60 watt bulb then it just may be that it's not a natural amount of light at that time.

I recommend $10 Lutron lamp dimmer that plugs unto the wall or a $40 300 watt capable device that brightens your lamp lights in the morning instead of instant brightness.

I would suggest one of these clip on lights I use them for an art table that tilts and other random things (sometimes like a flashlight). You can adjust the lighting angle to how you want and it's got a pretty good color and strength. You can use them for pretty much anything, I actually use mine to illuminate my wardrobe right now.

All the lights used a part of a Philips Hue system. There is a bulb in the lamp, two bloom lights for the wall, and a Hue Lightstrip inside the PC. They are controllable from my phone/pc. They are RGB, and the Hue system allows for some pretty fun colors!

Consider replacing light bulbs around your house with full spectrum bulbs. Consider getting a little portable light that you can take with you to work and place near where you chart.

This may look familiar, I posted my setup briefly a couple weeks ago but deleted it. I’ve since made some changes and took better photos. Now I’m ready to share!

I switch between the PC & Mac with a USB switch that’s connected to a hub with my keyboard/mouse/mic/webcam/etc, and then change the input source on the monitor. The TV above me isn’t normally on, I really only use it when on the couch behind me.

I use the MacBook 90% of the time, but when it’s time to do video editing or rendering I fire up the big boy:

One thing I need to mention with out trying to insult you, but lamps are very easy to work with. You can use anything your creative minds wants you to make as a lamp. You can use a beer bottle, a shoe, a cremated cat, anything you want...the main thing is just find a way to thread the cable and find a way to hold the bulb socket.

Usually something from a garage sale. I like these guys
Clip Light , or this Ikea one but the ikea one only takes small bulbs.

It's a little bit ugly but to make the upmost of your light, you can surround all or part of your plant space with a mylar (space blanket). If you cut sheets, you can glue them to poster board and make panels for around your grouping of plants. They're super reflective so any light that is not absorbed by the plants, or 'spills over' can get redirected back. I've seen it used underneath plants, or if you have a shelf, you could position the light from one side, and cover the opposite side to get the light shining from both angles :)

I don't think so, the watts per gallon rule doesn't really work that well, especially under 10 gallons. I would just get a cheap clamp on gooseneck lamp and a small (7watt) compact fluorescent bulb. This would also allow you to raise and lower the lamp to get more or less light.

Something like this http://www.amazon.com/Boston-Harbor-Flexible-Table-Black/dp/B003NZSLHS/ref=sr_1_1?s=office-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1381065478&sr=1-1&keywords=clamp+light

I've thought about doing something like this and throwing all my scrap threads into it over time. Could looks really cool or wicked hideous when it's finished lol.

u/BarneyChampaign · 4 pointsr/ProductPorn

Nice, they have a dog one too!

u/luciferin · 7 pointsr/comics

You should look into a Dawn Simulator. I bought this one a month ago and so far I have really liked it. If nothing else, I haven't over slept since I've had it.

u/SDuby · 2 pointsr/Warhammer

Yeah, a really solid option, albeit a bit pricey is this

u/unfickwuthable · 2 pointsr/DIY

then all it takes is some creative drilling to be able to run a cable through, and then a light kit, such as this: http://www.amazon.com/Westinghouse-Lighting-70269-Make-A-Lamp-Kit/dp/B00002NADS

u/az_max · 1 pointr/pics

First Christmas gift of the year purchased. And someone else is getting the dog light.

>like say the rich person lives somewhere where it is the middle of winter

It can be the middle of winter anywhere.

But we all compensate our living situations to account for weather in some ways. We warm our houses more in the winter, but we also might have some basic lighting that replicates the color of sunlight.

u/fireismind · 2 pointsr/Frugal

I used one of these with success for about 2yrs then it died. It's totally programmable, how long to go from off to full brightness and how long it stays on after that and which days it comes on etc... Thinking about getting another one actually. $40 plus shipping. so somewhat frugal compared to the $200 options

I believe it's this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01GY5GN14/ref=strm_sims_nad_undefined_undefined

Amazon also has many different versions of the lamp (darker wood, etc.)

The lightning they are using looks like it could be Philip Hues.

u/Dantrag · 1 pointr/PlantedTank

I have used something like this here on smaller tanks before.

If you want lights to help out your figure displays, you can try Ikea's white Dioder LED strips. They're cheap and fairly versatile, but kind of a pain to hook up (lots of wires to manage).

For photography, if you don't have a ton of space, you can try getting a clamp-on light like this that can take a standard light bulb. If you're using your phone camera, it's best to throw a lot of light onto the figure or else you'll get a grainy potato quality picture. You can bounce these off something reflective (you can use white poster board or a piece of cardboard covered in foil) to soften the light a bit.

Shooting with sunlight by a window as /u/Chiriesz suggested is also an option.

One more thing, if you intend to use multiple lamps, try to put the same kind of light bulb in all of them (like get a 6-pack or something). Not all bulbs emit the same color light, so use the same type to light your figure in order to avoid unexpected color casts.

u/RobScoots22 · 3 pointsr/PlantedTank

The cheapest way to do it would be to get a couple of clip on lights like these: http://www.amazon.com/Boston-Harbor-Flexible-Table-Black/dp/B003NZSLHS/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=undefined&sr=8-2&keywords=clip+on+lamp. And then get some 6500k daylight bulbs. Not sure what a proper wattage would be for that that tank, but maybe somebody on here will.

u/asianlongdong · 2 pointsr/battlestations

It's these lamps: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B012TH34DQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

They're blue because I have multi-colour Phillips Hue bulbs inside them

u/turquoise_lady · 0 pointsr/pics

you could just buy one for less than 1/3 the price and you don't have to make it

u/Animegame97 · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

I got it from my sister as a Christmas present, but here it is on Amazon. It actually changes colors to become Pinky, Clyde, etc! My whole setup is actually RGB themed. Everything is on constant color cycles :-)... Never enough RGB.

Low cost then if say get a clip on lamp then buy a 9w(or so) cfl 6500k bulb

u/carb0nxl · 3 pointsr/battlestations

Sorry, but it is a discontinued model from Target :(

Believe me, I want more of this but they don't sell anything like this anymore. Closest ones are this one from Amazon and this from IKEA. Probably could find similar models but yeah this lamp is really nice as hell. Calming, too. I've got a LED bulb in it with soft white.

u/Zokuta · 1 pointr/battlestations

The lamp on my bed is just a clip-on one my parents bought, but the one on my nightstand is a Minimalist Solid Wood Table Lamp Bedside Desk Lamp. I don't particularly like how the switch is on the cord, so it's a bit difficult to reach.

u/BuscemiBiscuits · 2 pointsr/musicproduction

okay but the real question is where can I get that Pacman ghost led??

An electrician? You think you need an electrician to make a lamp? 6-year-olds in sweatshops in china put lamps together all the time! You can buy lamp kits in about any hardware store! (Stuff like this: https://www.amazon.com/Angelo-Brothers-Make-Lamp-Kit/dp/B00002NADS). Making a lamp is high-school shop levels of complicated and dangerous.

WTF its not like the OP is trying to make a deck.
