So here's what I can help with:

> 1.) I’ll need to buy a 128GB SD card for the phone. From a real OEM, for reliability sake. And keep copies of all the media for the SD card elsewhere (cloud, harddrive)

Google Play Music (with or without All Access) has you covered for that music management. You can just download your library to the SD card with ease from within the app, and let it sit and download over Wi-Fi/LTE (whoo, unlimited data!) for a while. Dropbox or Google Drive have you covered for just about everything else.

> 2.) I’ll need to purchase a wireless charging compatible back for the phone. This is a bit of an issue for me, are there official options for this yet?

From a few minutes of Googling, it looks like LG has their quick circle case, but you can probably find an alternative on Amazon or eBay.

> 3.) QI chargers, seems like any cheap well-reviewed one will do

Bingo. It's a standard, like USB. Since I have a Nexus 5 and 7, I love the official Nexus wireless charger (magnets are strong enough to hold up the N5 if the charger is mounted on the side of a computer, wall, wherever). I've also got the Nokia DT-900 and DT-910 as my bedside chargers (900 for the N5, 910 for the N7 which practically makes it into a mini TV or an excellent night clock). AirDock has me covered in the car with the Nexus 5 (again, magnets ftw!)

> 4.) Planning on a DBrand Black Titanium Skin for the phone. I am not sure this will work with the wireless charging back

Shouldn't. You can put on a hard case or the like. Qi will typically go through up to about 1/4 to 1/2 an inch of case depending on your charger. I've got a case on my Nexus 7 and it charges through it just fine.

> 5.) Extra batteries from ZeroLemon/Anker if they release, OEM if not.

> How do I charge these batteries out of the phone? Or is it easier to get an external battery for emergencies.

Personally, I prefer the external battery pack method. No device lock-in (I really regret all the accessories I bought for my Galaxy Nexus and SGS4... Never doing that again) and you don't have to deal with as much shady-ness. Amazon and eBay are flooded with knock-off chargers and batteries that can ruin your day. ZeroLemon's good, but they tend to require a trade-off (no NFC, or turning your phone into a brick/tank).

> 1.) Disable iMessage on my current iPhone and probably call Apple to yell at them that my new phone isn’t working.

Test the crap out of this ASAP after switching so you don't regret it later.

> 2.) Transfer Contacts by syncing with a google account

Don't forget G+ integration. If you update your contact data on Google+, anyone who has you circled (and is in a circle you've allowed to see that info) will automatically have your contact info updated on their Android devices and via google.com/contacts or Gmail.

> 3.) Root using Purp13’s method as found from the LG G3 sidebar. TMo’s bootloader is unlocked

Before doing that, give yourself a few days to get to know the phone. Get used to Android, get your mail and contacts and whatnot all loaded, and learn the quirks of the OS. Until you really use it hands-on for a few days, no amount of preparation is going to completely have you covered, coming from iOS.

> 5.) Titanium Backup and Greenify sound like the most important Root-Apps

I'm not personally a fan of Greenify. Disabling apps you don't want, and configuring those you do properly should be enough. Especially if you've got wireless charging going; you won't need to worry about your battery much, because any time you're not walking around or using your phone, it'll probably be on that charger getting topped off without you having to think or worry about it. I noticed this change in my usage behavior after I started using Qi.

> Titanium Backup should be able to disable all carrier/oem bloatware

T-Mobile's pretty good about bloatware, and most things you can disable without even needing root.

> 6.) ES File Explorer to manage the SD card/Files

I'd also recommend trying out Solid Explorer. It's pretty straightforward and I've gotten to really like it's cloud/network drive compatibility. Makes it a cinch to copy freshly downloaded movies from my router (poor man's NAS and download manager) to my phone/tablet before running out the door to work.

> 7.) Nova Launcher sounds like the most all-encompassing launcher

Give that Google Experience Launcher a try for a few days. Or at the very least, Google Now. It seems kinda pointless at first, but if you use Gmail and let it get to know you for a few days, it gets really nifty with its recommendations and reminders.

> 8.) Google Hangouts is the only app that handles SMS/MMS and Hangouts messages

> The Hangouts messages are an easy iMessage alternative for all my friends/family still in the iOS ecosystem

People are always amazed when I show them the ease of Hangouts on their iPhones. "It's like iMessage, but everywhere!" Chat with them from my tablet, phone, computer, their computer, their iPad, and their iPhone all at once, then call them from their iPad over their cell number to really blow them away.

> 9.) Llama sounds like a Tasker alternative that is a bit more user friendly. I don’t foresee myself needing all the functionality of Tasker so I’ll take the ease of Llama

Trigger (formerly NFC Action Launcher) is also good, depending on what you're looking to do. For example, I have it setup so that when it detects that my Nexus 5 is wirelessly charging and connected to my car's Bluetooth receiver, it starts dock mode, launches Waze, turns off Wi-Fi (so it won't try to cling to my Wi-Fi as I drive away from home and inevitably cause music buffering), turns on auto-brightness, and then undoes all of that when I get to my apartment's geo-fence.

> Twitter – Carbon/Fenix

I know it gets a lot of hate, but I like the official Twitter client (prepares to be stoned). I manage three different accounts, and unlike Plume it doesn't mix them up or lie about which account I'm replying from. Also, the real push notifications (not always-on-streaming-timeline like Plume) are kinda hard to beat.

> Facebook – Official App + Messenger

Make sure to use something like AppOpsXposed to disable their permissions if you're going to do this. Facebook and Messenger are notorious for killing battery life by hammering your GPS randomly all day. The other permissions are fairly excessive, too. If you don't want to limit their permissions, try Tinfoil instead, which is basically the Facebook mobile site in a dedicated browser so Facebook can't associate you browsing around in Chrome on a page with a Like button as you and your account.

> Browser – Chrome

Check out Link Bubble. Useful for opening links from social media sites and the like.

> Google – Maps/Drive/Docs/Sheets/Slides/Gmail/Calendar/Keep (I’m invested in google, can you tell?)

Check out Waze for navigation, too. Google Maps gets a lot of its accident and traffic reporting data from Waze since Google bought them, but it has some other useful features like letting you report (and get alerted to) cars on the side of the road, hidden police, red light/speed cameras and other annoyances. Typically I'll use Google Maps if I'm navigating somewhere for the first time (gotta love lane guidance) but if I'm taking a regular route I'll have Waze up and running. The GPS-based speedometer (why doesn't every navigation app have this?!) is nifty, too.

> Reddit – Reddit News/Sync

Lovin' that Reddit Sync dev version. Been using it for months.

> Weather – AtmosHere/Weather Underground

There's a lot of competition here. I also like 1Weather and Eye In Sky.

> Zooper for Widgets

DashClock. DashClock, DashClock, DashClock. Especially on your lockscreen. Stupid how useful it is.

> 11.) I’m still looking for an app to handle all my sports notifications, from scores to news for MLB/NFL/NHL/NBA/EPL/NCAA (hockey, football, basketball)

Google Now's got you covered pretty well if you tell it what teams you like, depending on how much of a fanatic you are.

> 13.) Google Play all-access seems like a great subscription for music. I may stick with Rhapsody because that’s what I’m on now

Don't forget that if you have the new(er) T-Mobile unlimited data plan ($30 unlimited with 5 GB of tethering), you get Rhapsody UnRadio for free. Google Play Music All Access is also a no-brainer and probably going to get the Music Freedom treatment soon.

u/EtherBoo · 1 pointr/emulation

Just to clear a few things up.

> Im glad you cleared that up for me about the other SBCs. I was wondering if the other brands would be better at handling the systems the pi doesn't handle well.

Interestingly enough - ETA Prime (YouTuber) just posted a video about the MiQi SBC. It seems to be running N64 pretty nicely and he says he's going to be putting up a video soon about the MiQi and systems the Pi doesn't do very well. So while the support may not be there, it might be worth looking into, just understand that you're going to have less support for the systems you're interested in.

It might also be worth waiting for the Raspberry Pi 4, which my guess will be out within the next 3-6 months (nobody really knows when it will be out). It should have better specs and be able to handle something like N64 a little better due to better a stronger CPU. N64 development is something that is actively worked on for the Raspberry Pi where something like Dreamcast Emulation appears to be dead in the water (for example, the bug with date/time needing to be entered when loading every ROM was identified a while ago, but remains unfixed even though the fix has been identified; I'd do it myself if I knew how to code).

> So now I'm totally sold on the Pi3 and I'm chomping at the bit to place an order, but I'm still hung up on what to order with it.

The Cananakit is the most popular option. I ended up going for the basic and ordering a separate 128 GB card (but you can also get 256 GB if you're feeling like you could fill it up). The kit comes with a case, power supply, heat sinks. There are better cases you can buy, but this is a good all-in-one type price.

> I can't seem to find a clear small form factor case that has space in it for HDD AND has a cooling fan.

You're not going to want to put a HDD in it. They can add heat and the last thing you want is to add heat to this. They can already get a little hot. If you want a HDD attached, your best bet is to do it via USB. I know you don't like the idea of an external, but it's honestly the best way to go if you really want a hard drive attached. Here's an option I did find with a hard drive though, but I think you're risking overheating with this type of application:

Here are a few cases with fans attached:
Zebra Virtue, JBtek Transparent Acrylic Raspberry Pi B+ / Raspberry Pi 2 Case with External Fan (I might actually buy this one for myself), Eleduino 2015 New Version Raspberry Pi 2 mode B Transparent Acrylic Case With Fan Black.

> I have a decent gaming laptop. Could I use that to host the steam program?

You can't say you have a decent gaming laptop and not know what Steam is.

Steam supports streaming to just about any PC. There's two caveats to this though. First, you need to be hard wired. A laptop is normally wireless just because of the platform type. Second, you can't use the PC while it's streaming. You can go to the PC being streamed from and actually watch what's being played and even interfere with the game being played/streamed.

> Would having a separate account solve the problem of having an over crowded steam library?

Sort of. Again, the NES, SNES, and Genesis complete sets will run over 2k games easily (I have something like 1100 in my NES folder for Japanese only games that I included; the full US NES set is like ~700 or so.). That gets crowded, fast. Even viewing a single system with over 100 games gets crowded. Now Steam uses a flat view, so unless you split up everything manually, it's still going to get crowded.

I started to set this up and I don't recommend it unless it's for your favorite games and I'd limit it to about 10-20 per system. I'd use the Pi for a catch all for everything else.

> Another reason I want to shy away from just having a regular Pc for emulation is I want my kids to be able to play the games but I don't want them on my computer... this hosting thing seems like a great solution.

Again, Steam Link won't really help with that since they'll be able to access the computer. What don't you want them to be able to access? You should be able to block most of that with user account access. For about $500 or so, you can build a PC that should run everything up to the Wii. Hook it up to the TV and they won't be able to really do much else.

This is my review for the Poetic slim line portfolio case, the link has some pictures for your viewing pleasure. For those interested in purchasing , it can be found here.

Overall Impression: The Case Is slim, surprisingly light and professional looking. From the pictures and description on the amazon website, this looked to be the ultimate case for the Nexus 7. It comes pretty close but there are a few issues. At $19.95, it is priced right.

Looks: The case is made of faux leather and plastic. Overall it looks pretty good. There are a few places where the plastic meets the faux leather where it could have been done a little better (fold over the leather portion to not show edges?) but over all it looks like a very nice case. They might have overcome this by making the entire thing out of plastic and texturizing the back. The micro-suede lining on the inside front and back is a nice touch.

Functionality: The cover folds into a stand a la iPad's smart cover. This works quite well and offers many different viewing angles. When in hand, you can roll up the cover and it provides a nice left hand grip for reading/viewing. My one issue with this is that it doesn't fold completely flat behind the device. On the right hand side of the cover are magnets that keep the cover shut when closed. I'm not sure that this is entirely necessary and it makes the right side of the cover slightly thicker than the rest (see pics) but for those that like the added security, this is a plus. There is also a magnet that facilitates "smart cover" functionality and this works fine. All buttons and ports are accessible. The case is fairly easy to remove without feeling like it will fall off. My final complaint is that the front cover is slightly too big and overlaps the edge of the case. This is purely an aesthetic complaint and it could be argued that this helps the cover to be more easily opened (an important feature because of the magnetic fasteners).

I think the nice thing about vanilla android devices in general is that they're a nice blank slate for developers to use (as far as I understand). I'd leave the whole version part to her, but usually people will want the latest and greatest, so in this case Lollipop. To be honest, I'd leave all of the customization up to her if you're not certain. More than half the fun of owning an Android table/phone is being able to customize it yourself in every detail.

However, one thing: get her a case if you haven't done so already. I use this one. I accidentally dropped the 1st gen one on its face and shattered the screen. This case is great because it can be a stand and protects the screen pretty well. Plus, the company is amazing as they replaced mine for free and let me keep the old case when the elastic band snapped.

Sorry for rambling, but hope you figure out what you want to do. She'll love it either way I can guarantee.

u/mineofgod · 9 pointsr/ipad

Absolutely, 1000%, get this case.

I use the iPad almost exclusively for drawing, and I find this case to be perfect for nearly every position I find myself in. Drawing in the bed? Perfect. Drawing on a desk? Perfect. Need it to stand upright? Perfect. I mean, it's got 10 different stand positions. The cover also turns off the screen, and it's got two perfect holders for the Pencil. One that charges it, and another that holds it uncharged, so you don't have to worry about draining the battery.

I've dropped my iPad a couple times in this case, and it is still in perfect condition. I also applied a matte screen protector. And while that initially made the screen a worse quality, I got used to it really fast, and it made drawing on the iPad a much more Wacom-like experience. I also got a grip for the Pencil. I do have to take off the grip in order to charge the Pencil, but because of this case's extra Pencil-holder, most of the time the grip is able to remain on.

The weight and thickness are great as well. Durability is fantastic. I've had this case since January, and it's held up perfectly. No stretching on the corners, like I've seen with Otterbox cases. My iPad has been through the ringer; I take it with me everywhere. I don't have to baby it, or worry about it bending. For several months, I had it in a basic cloth purse with no padding. And it survived beautifully.

I seriously can't recommend this case enough, haha.

https://www.amazon.com/Poetic-Flexible-Transparent-Ultra-Thin-Resistant/dp/B01MZ79FAM/ref=sr_1_2

Not to sound like a prick, but I’ve typically shied away from the cheap-o $10 cases (I get that the Apple silicone case is overpriced, but it fits super snug and works really well). That said, I rolled the dice on this guy ($15 shipped at this time) and it’s solid.

It’s a bit softer than the Apple case, but still fits snugly and feels like it offers similar protection (I don’t need anything major; I just wanna be able to set it down without scuffing it all up). Holding the Pencil is a nice little bonus.

Fits well with the keyboard (apparently that was an issue with early versions of this guy, but it’s been fixed). Only tiny gripe might be that it’s a bit soft, especially around the thin parts like the speakers, but all in all, it’s great. Absolutely recommend as a replacement for the silicone case and you can keep your Pencil stashed now.

u/sinoth · 2 pointsr/Nexus7

Seems silly to protect the back of the case when it is already a sturdy material. I realize most people get this sort of case to protect from drops, but I'm not too worried about that.

Tube sock thing would almost work but I'm mostly trying to protect the glass from piercing damage. The most hostile environment the tablet has to endure is my wife's purse, which has all sorts of pointy implements. A leather or rubber case would protect from piercing better than cloth.

I came across this case which doesn't look too bad, but still seems thicker than it needs to be. The Dodo case looks amazing but the adhesive would make it difficult to remove the tablet. The official case bugs me because the front flap doesn't secure in any way. This one isn't out yet but seems to be the best of the bunch.

You know, maybe I don't give the glass enough credit. I have been using my current phone (Samsung Galaxy S) without a case for over 2 years, and the glass still looks great. There are some tiny scratches, but you have to reallllly look to see them. I suppose the big difference is the phone stays in my relatively safe pocket while the tablet gets tossed into the nearest container.

u/construktz · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

Speaking from personal experience, I would go with this Microsoft Surface Pro 4.

I was in the market for a machine so my daughter could do her art without covering our house in the inane ramblings of an 8 year old, so I started digging into convertibles with pens. I finally settled on the SP4.

It's extremely lightweight, the magnet attachment for the keyboard and power are fantastic features, the pen is really great and accurate, and the display is absolutely beautiful. I really suggest the i5/8GB model, since you can't upgrade it, and I would suggest getting this UAG Case as well. I tested a number of cases first and landed on that one, as it allows the keyboard to snap to it without removing the case or having any other weird addition like the Otterbox one has.

Also keeping in mind that the Surface Pro Type Cover is separate, it is on the high end of your budget. But something that will last all day (in power saving mode), and be extremely easy to carry around with a good quality pen is well worth it.

I have the Anker tempered glass screen protector from Amazon on my 10.5 pro. Works great, went on easy with no bubbles or marks. I also have the Apple Smart Keyboard and a compatible iBlason case from Amazon on it. The case is thin and has a clear back so it looks minimal. Finally, I carry it around in the Apple iPad Pro leather sleeve. It looks and feels great. It’s expensive but I found one brand new on eBay for half the price of retail stores. So in the picture I attached you'll see two small Knicks on the right back side. No idea how they got there since the ipads been in a case 99% of the time. Luckily any case you put on will cover it. Other than that the ipad is in great condition.

Along with the ipad will come the Apple Pencil 2nd Gen and three cases, a folio case and a bluetooth keyboard. Comes with orginal charger and cable as well. I have the box for the ipad but not the pencil. Also I do have month to month applecare which I can try to transfer or just let it finish out.

This exact same thing happened to me ~2 weeks ago. I heard OfficeMax had them on sale, so I gave my local branch a call. The manager at OfficeMax said they were no longer getting shipments of the N7, but that I could buy their display model for $130. When I got there the tablet was powered off and wouldn't turn on. I had him charge the device and returned after work to check it out.

The device powered up and was still running Android 4.4.1 so it clearly hadn't been used in a while. I used a lens wipe to clean the screen and was happy to see it was completely scratch free. The manager told me they rarely sold tablets at their store, and that he hadn't seen the N7 used in ~6 months. I was able to haggle him down to $100, and bought a 2-year unlimited warranty for an extra $15.

When i got the device home I factory reset it and it has been running flawlessly. I also purchased [This case] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00E5NOXM4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) because I heard the spontaneous screen cracking could be due to the chassis of the device flexing. With the case and the $15 2-year warranty I feel very secure about owning this device, despite it being a display model.

TL;DR: Call your local OfficeMax, they may have a display model they will sell you on the cheap. Also ask about warranty opportunities!

N7 2013: I agree with you, but it's pretty easy to get past after a bit of use. I have a little case on mine, this one, (they actually sent me 2 for some reason), but anyways, it helps to prevent the speakers from being against whatever surface you set the tab down on.

Also, if you hold it landscape and don't cover the speakers then they sound pretty good.

Use the Apple Smart Keyboard with this case: KHOMO iPad Pro 10.5 Inch Charcoal Gray Color Case - Companion Cover - Perfect match for Apple Smart keyboard and Cover. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07215MYS4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_dzUJBb91CRM5E

Greatest combo there is. The case matches the keyboard in color perfectly and just like the Apple Pencil compared to other styluses - there is no better keyboard for the iPad than the Smart Keyboard. It’s so well integrated and the keyboard is great (that said I wish it had a little less key travel and was a little louder but that’s just me). And that case is cheap and works perfectly.

Nothing beats my Moko case. This thing is insanely well made. Includes a magnet so that the Nexus 7 turns off and on whenever you open it. Completely secures the tablet in it without surrounding it all around with the case material things to six appropriately placed holders. An elastic band helps secure the case in the completely open style, where it has a similar hand hold in the back as the Snugg. And the elastic band can be used to hold the tablet in a secure stand configuration although you can set it up easily in its stand configuration without it. I don't doubt this other case is good as well, but the Moko does everything its does but better and it looks really good as well.

It’s a great stylus, love mine. On a side note, the ZUGU muse case has the best stylus storage implementation I’ve seen in a iPad Pro 2018 case to date. It’s definitely worth the ~$60-70 price tag (depending on size of iPad) imo. Tons of adjustment for tilting and the reviews are stellar (I own one as well, definitely recommend)

I recently bought an iPad but I need help choosing an inexpensive case cover. Which material is the best in terms of protection (falls, wear and tear)?

Option 1 : Hard plastic back

Option 2 : Soft TPU back

Option 3 : Soft TPU Bumper Edges with Hard plastic back

Actually, I'd rather not go with hard plastic as it may crack easily?

So, Option 2 or 3?

Pwease help, thank you!

So a couple things the poetic cases are pretty awesome and so cheap that I thought they were too cheap and held of buying them for a bit.

iPad Air 3 Case (10.5 Inch, 2019), iPad Pro 10.5 Case, Poetic Flexible Soft Transparent TPU Clear Back Cover with Pencil Holder, Compatible with Apple Smart Keyboard and Smart Cover, Lumos, Clear https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N4LHPZE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_tAQHDbH7TAW53

The default keyboard IMO is much better than people give it credit for, I have no issues typing on it or using it. Also since they haven’t changed it you can find it on sale for a lot less than msrp. Apple Pencil comes with the charging adapter so you don’t have to plug it into the iPad, and it doesn’t need to be charged all the time. Also since it is the same pencil you can find some good deals on it as well still a bit much.
Personally in the same situation I found a used iPad Pro 10.5 64gb with pencil and keyboard for 450 and have no regrets (maybe 64gb)

I really like covers and cases from JETech. I have an iPad Pro 10.5 in cover that I bought from them and they started emailing me codes for free Apple Watch bands, and again later a code for a free iPhone X case.

Here is a link for the latest iPad 2017 model. It is only $6.99. I can vouch for their cases they are outstanding!

(I promise I am not a shill for them, just a really happy customer! [which seems silly that I feel the need to say this])

If you're looking for a case for it, get this one:

The iPad cover is very nice. It's actually better than the one for the 9.7 (at least for me) since the magnets seem stronger. I believe all 3 have been talked about throughout this thread, so if you search by their names, you can see how others feel about them (mostly positive for each one). I've been looking for one as well, though without the keyboard. Unfortunately, i don't think we have yet to have a stand that comes close to the fluidity of a Surface Pro hinge stand. I'm waiting to see if anything newer pops up in the fall (ideally hoping to see one with a trackpad). In the meantime, I picked up a Zugu case that has functioned pretty well.

Get the Poetic Slimline case. The black one was $5 when I preordered it, but I think it's gone up to $10, with the other colors being $15. It looks a lot like the ASUS premium cover and works great. Auto sleep/wakes the screen, feels and fits great, etc. I like the way it attaches much more than most of the other cases I've seen that just loop an elastic band over the corners or have weird claw things that grip around the edges.

I have the new edition of this and I completely agree, hands down the best case I've ever used for a tablet. No keyboard but very sturdy and protective, and the magnets surprisingly work well to hold it at whatever angle you choose. I think unless the OP absolutely had to have a keyboard at all times with their iPad, they would really benefit from this case plus an external keyboard left in the office ✌

As far as accessories go, I definitely recommend the Apple Pencil. I personally didn't go with the smart keyboard - instead, I opted for a foldable bluetooth keyboard. Others swear by the Apple Keyboard, but I just couldn't afford it.

I've heard amazing things about the Zugu Muse Case, but I personally got the Ztotop Case.

I wound up going with the 11" iPad Pro because it felt better? I recommend going to an Apple Store/Best Buy/Costco/etc., and just handling both devices IRL. I thought I wanted the 12.9", but after holding it for a while, it felt too big.

Hello,

I just received the Poetic SlimLine Case for my Nexus 7 FHD (2013) and so far I am very happy with it. The case is an exact fit for my Nexus 7 and has openings for all the ports, including the rear camera. The fit of the cover against the case is excllent as well, with no flexing of the cover or problems at the "hinge" area.

I also ordered some matte screen protectors¹ from a brand I hadn't heard of before (Crazy On Digital) but were (1) inexpensive; and (2) had good reviews; and those seem to be working fine so far as well.

I had an Apple Smart Keyboard and an Apple “back case” on my 9.7... it bent on me. Luckily I was in the 90 day window. Apple had mercy on me and fixed it.

Months later I give husband the replacement 9.7 and get a 10.5. Got an off name brand back case and a Smart Keyboard. Same deal, my 10.5 bends on me.

Both bends were around the Smart Keyboard and the second time the Apple G said it really looked like the SK was pulling my 10.5 around the magnetic area in a way that caused it to bend. She replaced my 10.5 and I picked up replacement the next day.

I sold my 9.7 Apple stuff and returned my 10.5 Apple/off name brand stuff and bought a Zagg Keyboard for both.

It’s the BEST decision I ever made. The Zagg Keyboard is so much better than the SK because it has back lighting (in 7 different colors) and typing keys can compress (more like your MacBook). I’ve had the thing for 3 months and have not yet had to charge it once.

Also the protection the full case gives my 10.5 is SOOO much better than what I got with the Apple stuff.

I also got the New iPad 2017. Still not many options for keyboard cases last I checked. What I ended up doing was getting this case and this keyboard. Neither were very expensive so if I find a better solution in the future I won't feel too bad replacing them rather quickly.

The case has the smart cover feature where it will unlock or lock your screen when opening and closing. The plastic shell keeps it from getting scuffed and the front cover folds to make a stand.

I have also found it to be convenient not having the keyboard attached to the case actually. There have been times where I didn't want the keyboard directly in from of the iPad and having that flexibility over a "laptop configuration" is surprisingly nice. I don't take my iPad out of my house very often so far so the two piece thing hasn't been an issue for portability for me yet. Also, the bluetooth keyboard can be paired with iOS, Android, Windows, or Mac so if I do replace it for the iPad, I have other devices I could use it with.

u/TrevelyanISU · 2 pointsr/nvidiashield

I've got intelliarmor on mine and it is probably the best screen protector I've ever had for a device. As for case, I think it's up to personal preferences in part, but brand aside I highly recommend getting a case that the front is tri-fold to double as a stand. I personally have this one: http://www.amazon.com/Fintie-NVIDIA-SHIELD-Tablet-SmartShell/dp/B00MN98ATE but any case like that with good reviews should be fine, IMO.

u/Edge767 · 2 pointsr/ipad

I'll be going with THIS one. I use the smart keyboard and this will help protect the back and look like it belongs.

Currently, I use a beige smart cover on the back. It works surprisingly well on the back of my iPad with the smart keyboard on the front. I put it on the back only while it's in my bag.

I bought this case along with my Smart Keyboard back in January. It’s pretty close to the same color and perfectly compliments the Smart Keyboard.

I am, yea. I picked up a JBTek Transparent "case" which is really just two transparent acrylic plates with four posts (i.e. no walls) and a fan. (The case didn't come with instructions but the Amazon listing comments had instructions with photos from other customers which was a huge help.) I also got some a uxcell 25mmx25mmx15mm heatsink which I stuck on with Artic Silver thermal paste. Note that I mounted the fan pointing inwards which is the inverse of their photo, because it's better for cooling. (Same reasons you point your CPU's fans to blow in and not out.)

Then the 2013 N7 is probably your best bet. Try to find a 2013 though, it's quite an upgrade over the 2012 and not worth saving a few dollars.

My reason for the Nvidia upgrade was Gamestreaming, better controller support (I like the Shield's controller more than a DS3), slightly larger screen, etc... I'd recommend picking up this case if you get a N7. I had the same type for my 2012 and 2013 tabs.

I have the injection molded version of that case.. Thought about printing it when I got my C2s, but those clips are just too brittle with PLA. I am currently attending uni and from my experience this past year with the 10.5. I highly recommend it. Simply because you might not always have the luxury in terms of desk space of having a 12.5 with you and also because of weight. My mom bought the 12.5 and regretted it within a few days because of the weight and sheer size.

If you are saving money or you would rather use that money for something else, I recommend using your petrol points to purchase it and spend a little to get the accessories you would want to have. In contrast if you want to be future proof, don’t mind waiting a bit, and don’t mind spending a fair penny; purchase the new one. Roughly with the items listed below and getting an 10.5 with 256GB and with AppleCare set me back roughly $1250 USD so you have a rough idea of how much you might be spending.

Accessories that I bought that I also highly recommend and use on a daily basis are listed:

That's about all one can do. Once you handle the iPad Pro for a while, you'll realize how "unbendable" it is. It's pretty solid. Just treat it reasonably carefully and you shouldn't have a problem.

Hi, you meant this right? I wanted to get this but hesitated many times.

BTW, I use a SP4 i5 majorly for tether shooting and some office work (remotely) and been looking for a good surface case, can you recommend any? Looking at this UAG CASE

Thanks

Yes, I do recommend it. It fits great on the new nexus 7 and it have a very good grippy surface.

This one is my favorite. Matches the Smart Keyboard perfect in terms of color and the feel of materials. Highly recommend!

u/seslor · 0 pointsr/ipad

This is all you need. Get a smart case with it from Apple. Amazing case that I genuinely think about how happy I am with it on a daily basis.

Edit to add: You don't need the smart cover with the keyboard. The regular cover works perfect and adds virtually no size at all.

u/royksprekk · 3 pointsr/iPadPro

I have a Zugu Muse case, and it’s absolutely amazing. Built-in housing for magnetic pencil attachment, with a sleeve in back to carry it when you’re traveling and don’t want to risk losing it. Full protection, and eight possible stand positions. The button covers don’t have the annoyingly spongy resistance that other cases I’ve had have given me. Magnets in all the right spots, so things stay attached where they’re supposed to. Overall, it looks and feels premium.

It doesn’t have Smart Keyboard compatibility, but I’ve found that a decent portable Bluetooth keyboard takes care of that need, and although it’s not all-in-one, I like having the option to not have a keyboard in the way, as well as the ability to position it further from the iPad.

OneDrive
Have it on your SP4, your phone, and make sure you can access it from your computer. Leave all your necessary school files and even draft files on it. If you need to print somewhere or your Surface dies when you're using it your work will be ready to continue on another device.

UAG Case
If you're the type to get Otterbox's/LifeProof/UAG cases for your phone, definitely get this for the Surface: https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Feather-Light-Composite-Aluminum-Military/dp/B016ATD48O/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1483771384&sr=8-2&keywords=uag+case+surface+pro+4

Bluetooth Mouse
The Microsoft Arc mouse is a great compact mouse. Do not get a USB mouse you will regret using the port. Careful not to get the USB version of the Arc mouse btw. https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=microsoft+arc+mouse+bluetooth&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Amicrosoft+arc+mouse+bluetooth

Screen Protector
I got a matte one for my SP3. If you plan on using the pen then this might not be desirable to you. I tried using the pen for notes and using OneNote for my first semester but it became useless as I type faster than I take notes. A Matte screen protector always feels good and you will rarely ever have to wipe and clean the screen.

u/tomkatt · 3 pointsr/theNvidiaShield

Oh yeah. It's easy as dirt to unlock and root. The stock ROM will remove root and TWRP on OTA updates though, just a heads up.

Fintie makes pretty great cases on the cheap. I've gotten their stuff for every tablet I've owned. I use this one since I like a heftier device and it fits well in my bluetooth controller's grips, but there's a slim shell one too more like the official case if you prefer.

You managed to kill two different boards? Were you running them without a case or something? The GPIO pins on pretty much all SBCs go straight to the CPU, you need to be careful about static and stray voltages if you're messing around with them.

I have several C2 boards, all running Armbian from an eMMC module. They've been rock solid for me for over a year now. I originally had them in this case but switched to a 3D printed case that has a fan that better protects them. I use a fairly low speed 5V Sunon fan that's basically silent.

The Poetic Slimline case

http://www.amazon.com/Poetic-Slimline-Function-Manufacturer-Warranty/dp/B00E5NOXM4/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1405694347&sr=1-1&keywords=poetic+slimline+nexus+7+2013

This case is rather minimalistic and has a nice leather feel to it. Granted its only 12-15$ wherever you look its just going to be faux leather but feels genuine. It has some form of bumper protection but since it's a thin case it's not as protective as the larger cases. It does however cover all four edges and the fold over also has an auto-sleep every time you close it and wakes when you open the screen because of a small magnet. The magnet does not interfere with screen sleep issues (as far as I'm concerned, never happened to me). The case is entirely lightweight and also has microfiber on the inside of the closing flap so it doesn't scratch your screen when closed.

I've had this case since January and its still working the same as it did when it came in brand new. Definitely a case you want to look into if you want something nice, lightweight, and still has a form of protection even if it doesn't leave the house

u/klave7 · 1 pointr/ipad

I got the Smart Keyboard as I am trying to use it as a laptop replacement-ish. But I also just picked up THIS. If Apple ever releases a 10.5" silicone back I will probably get that as well. So far on Amazon all I've seen are transparent backs (that support smart keyboard) and I would prefer something grey or black.

u/the1welshman · 1 pointr/kindle

I personally have a magnetic folio case and I absolutely love it. Besides protecting your kindle, it also feels amazing in your hand and gives you better grip while reading. Also, it makes it so you just open the cover and your screen turns on, rather than needing to press the button. It may sound insignificant, but its a game changer for me. I highly recommend getting one.

I bought this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073S2V1PL/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_sgojDbTW3DQKH to go with my Smart Keyboard and it’s working out really well. The construction seems to be holding well but dust can get behind the clear back so taking out the iPad maybe once every two weeks helps prevent any permanent blemishes on the aluminum.

u/jdidom45 · 1 pointr/iPadPro

I picked up the Tomtoc 11-inch Tablet Sleeve because I needed something so I could pack the iPad Pro 11 in a bag for work. It has a pocket for the pencil and a cable. Have a bigger version from Tomtoc for my Surface Pro, the quality is really nice for the price.

Edit: I have the Apple Smart Folio (not the keyboard cover) on the iPad and it fits perfectly

u/lbcadden3 · 1 pointr/ipad

I just looked for something on Amazon with lots of reviews that averaged high. I got a case last year for my Pro, I didn’t like the two piece design of the Apple stuff but wanted something to cover the back when I went outside and laid it on the picnic table and such. Something similar to this

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06X6LSBZ6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_PvWbAbE3TN9QH

Once you find something you like the looks of you can probably find it on eBay for half price and free shipping. They will be listed under various brands, I got mine off eBay for under $10 about a year and a half ago, use it everyday.

u/hnilsen · 1 pointr/Nexus7

It hasn't been released yet - due to release 20th of August. All the pictures I've got are the ones from the amazon site: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B008NMCPTQ/ref=s9_simh_gw_p23_d11_i2?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=1F78MSBK1GFF5462M4KN&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=317828027&pf_rd_i=468294

What makes this my choice (albeit I haven't personally seen it), is that it's got a hard back that covers the device, it's got a smart cover with magnets that close and turn off the screen that can also turn into a stand. And it's sleek as a motherfraker.

If it fits into the Nexus 7 as well as the THIS fits the Kindle Touch, I'm going to be a very, very happy man.

u/BiaxialObject48 · 4 pointsr/gadgets

The Surface Pro with LTE Advanced seems to match your needs. The LTE model comes with a nano SIM card slot so your AT&T 4G plan should work with it. With the current promotion, this model (i5, 256GB SSD, 8GB RAM) is $1250 so its only just outside your budget, if that's fine. Keep in mind though that you would need to buy the Type Cover for the Surface.

I've seen a few rugged cases on Amazon like this one from Kensington or this one from UAG so those should be fine. Here's the Microsoft Store page for the Surface itself. You can also buy some of the accessories bundled together (like the UAG case and Type Cover) by clicking on "SEE DEALS" and going to "Bundle and Save", although there isn't much of a discount.

Edit: You could probably go for an older used Surface Pro as well to save money, but be sure to buy the LTE model otherwise it won't have a SIM card slot.

Somebody on a forum did testing with a few cases and this one, while not pretty, did the trick and had the best temps of multiple cases, even fancier ones. Beforehand my Rpi3 was overheating on high resolution videos, and hasn't had a hitch since.

The downsides for me are dealable - it's open sided which means it might collect a bit more dust, although no issues yet over two months of use. The other is that the fan makes noise. You could likely find a better quality fan that makes less noise if it bothers you.

Usually the volume of what I'm watching drown out the fans - in my household I've generally got fans running or air conditioning or my own desktop rig so fan noise doesn't bother me at all. It doesn't make nasty sounds or very loud at all, just what you'd expect from a small and decenty speedy little fan.

I like the looks of the second one but in the first picture, it doesn't seem to provide any corner protection - I'd be weary of that. Again, could just be the picture. Perhaps someone who owns either one of these cases could chime in.

I bought this Khomo Charcoal Gray case from Amazon. It's only $12.95 shipped with prime.

It matches the Smart Keyboard cover almost exactly. And I mainly wanted a back cover to help protect the camera lens that sticks out. I already scratched my desk at work when I dragged it as I picked it up. And when I take the keyboard cover off when using it at home, it still provides protection and some grippyness when holding it.

u/mgerbasio · 2 pointsr/Surface

The top half is heavy and I know the back of my SP4/SP gets warm without a cover so this probably isn't helping with heat dissipation. Covering the back of the device is pretty much common to all cases it seems so I don't know if this is better or not. It doesn't lay flat against the case, it has some ridges to lift it up which probably makes it dissipate heat better. There are holes that line up with the vent holes.

I'm an engineering student with mine and I have the Kensington Black Belt case for it. Keeps it safe from all the scuffs from the machinery and drops from tables.

I had the urban armor gear one for awhile, but noticed it had ventilation problems due to a form of heat dissipation seems to exist behind the devices' built in kickstand. Also the UAG case has a kickstand with only 4 positions and the cord used to keep the type cover in place broke after 4 months of use.

The Kensington case allows you to use the built in kickstand and is just a better quality built case all around in my opinion

Thanks for saying you didn't like the Moko, reminded me I even had the Poetic Slimline anymore. Hahah

u/DocCalculus · 12 pointsr/Nexus7

This one's been great for me for the last 4-5 months. Slim, light-weight and reasonably simple/attractive looking. That said, the pricing is looking a little weird right now.

EDIT: Corrected the link; thanks /u/Riekopo and /u/gardobus.

Amazon has half-shell cases.

KHOMO iPad Pro 10.5

Poetic Lumos Flexible Soft Transparent

Just scroll down from those links and all kinds of half-shells.

Many still allow using smart keyboard cover if so desire.

I have this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06X6LSBZ6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It's slim and does exactly what it says it will. I don't have much faith in the plastic around the edges though. I will be replacing it with this once it's in stock:

https://www.amazon.com/KHOMO-iPad-2017-inch-Case/dp/B06XXKG1TY/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1491343349&sr=1-1&keywords=khomo+iPad+2017

I've had this same case from Khomo on my iPad Air 1 and Air 2 and never had an issue. It's built from a nice rubberized material on the bottom that is comfortable and has never broken on me.

u/DArthurD · 1 pointr/ipad

I the apple pencil storage is optional, I have one of these:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07175N8XP

Cheap, protects both front and back, and it fits perfectly.
Also, it's not bulky.

u/codq · 1 pointr/ipad

I use and love the Poetic Lumus soft case. Mine is the transparent grey version and I could not be happier.

EDIT: lol, why on earth am I being downvoted

u/viper_in_the_grass · 2 pointsr/kindle

I checked a few older threads and here are a few links to suggested covers:

Fintie

Omoton

MoKo

They all bend backwards and have auto wake/sleep. They all have different colours and designs.

These are the regular covers. There are also some neat covers called origami that fold in the back, making a little stand for the Kindle. Here's one by Fintie. Seems like all these brands have them, so just search and choose your favourite.

Note: those links are for the Paperbacks versions. If you go with the Voyage, just search for that version.

u/n0tsane42 · 11 pointsr/kindle

When I got my Paperwhite I did some research and found the OMOTON case. It's light, sturdy, and has a magnetic flap. Multiple color choices. The outside texture is nice, enough grip so it doesn't feel like it slides out of my hand. $14.99 on Amazon now. The price fluctuates though, I got mine for $10.

u/TheStinkySkunk · 1 pointr/Nexus7

It's not the prettiest case, but it's been great so far. A couple of the reviews talked about how the magnets may fall out, but Poetic seems to replace the case immediately after you contact them. And my friends who recommended buying a Poetic case after I had issues with the Asus and Google cases have had no problems with their cases. Both of them have been using them for over two years by this point.

u/deathblade200 · 1 pointr/theNvidiaShield

before I say anything I should note mines rooted and I freeze anything that I don't need at the time including nvidia apps that don't need to be constantly running when I'm not using them which gives me a boost in battery...battery depends on what you do really I can get between 5 (high end games and demanding emulators) to 10 (low end games and nvidia grid) hours

as for how it feels I use this case for the best feel http://www.amazon.com/Fintie-NVIDIA-SHIELD-Tablet-SmartShell/dp/B00MN98ATE

u/robeschi · 1 pointr/ipad

I got this Moko case and it was OK, but I really wanted some place to put my Pencil, so I got this one. Turns out it was a moot point since I found the 10.5 too small and upgraded to the 12.9, but I really did like the one that held the pencil - until I found this skin for the Pencil...

u/rjk79 · 5 pointsr/Nexus7

I haven't seen anything exactly like the ipad case, there isn't the magnetic attachment point that the ipad has, so I don't think there will be a cover only like that. I have [this case] ( http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CKA1IYU/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1), which is the closest I've seen. The "full case" part adds minimal bulk, and I like it so far (especially for the price).

u/dcpDarkMatter · 2 pointsr/Nexus7

I picked up the MoKo case; seems to work pretty well. Lots of different colors and only ~16 USD from Amazon. Adds maybe 3/8ths to 1/2 inch to the thickness when closed.

u/cmoses78732 · 3 pointsr/ipad

I got this case from Amazon. I think it is the closest thing to the missing Apple cover. I got the Midnight Blue one. It works well with the Apple Smart Cover and the Apple Smart Keyboard.

It’s actually really nice because it’s soft and bendable - it doesn’t take a lot of force to apply or remove. The pencil stays in really well. It’s grippy but protective and again it works with the keyboard case. I like it a lot.

u/spicymacncheese · 3 pointsr/RetroPie

Something like this might work if you simply replace the included standoff posts with something longer picked up from the hardware store. This would allow extra vertical space for the powerblock. The case does fit the Raspberry Pi 3 even though it doesn't say so in the description.

u/pwnedkiller · 3 pointsr/ipad

I got this cover for $9 and some change open box it works fantasticly and is very study along with perfectly blending in the with keyboard cover. Their is a open box right now though amazon warhouse for $8.

u/yokens · 2 pointsr/Nexus7

There are plenty of cases like that. Just go to Amazon and search for Nexus 7 cases and you'll see plenty of selection.

I personally use this one. It felt a tiny bit bulky when I first got it, but now that I'm used to it, it feels fine and I'm quite fine of it.

http://www.amazon.ca/MoKo-Google-New-Nexus-Case/dp/B00CKA1IYU/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1412203912&sr=8-3&keywords=Nexus+7+cover

u/Crasty · 2 pointsr/theNvidiaShield

I recommend any of these.
I have one, and it's fantastic. I've heard bad things about the official cases. I don't worry about mine at all. I also don't drop it from standing heights on the regular. If you are going to use it to play hockey, I'd get something thicker.

u/Duckster415 · 1 pointr/iPadPro

I can answer a few q's:

  1. 64GB should be fine unless you are planning to download a bunch of movies, music or photos.

  2. I have the smart keyboard with a poetic case(https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073S2V1PL/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1). I suggest having a back case in the event it slips out of your hands. As for the smart keyboard, I want to try something different as it is designed only to be on a desk/table. Its had to use when in your lap or bed. It kinda sucks not having the keys backlit either.

  3. I am running mines w/o one and have no issues. I just carry a micro fiber around to clean the smudges
u/33165564 · 6 pointsr/Nexus7

Buy it online? The link you sent was the same price.

If you want a flip cover, get a Poetic Smart Cover. Comes in tons of colors and has magnets to make the device sleep when you close it. I don't think the linked case does this.

I got my Poetic case on Amazon for $13. It had some cracks in it and I opened a warranty claim with them. Had a new case delivered 3 days later and got to keep the old one.

Link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00E5NOXM4?pc_redir=1405569311&robot_redir=1

This is one of the authorized resellers of Poetic cases. If you make a warranty claim you need to have proof it came from either Poetic or an authorized dealer (there are two on Amazon and one on eBay I think. They're listed on the Poetic warranty page).

I already had purchased this case here for my ipad, and I typically do one of two things.

  • If I'm sitting at a table I'll prop my iPad up like this
  • If I'm in a recliner, or on a couch, or sitting up in bed I have a thick memory foam pillow that is hard enough to rest my forearms on while I hold the iPad up, and is much more comfortable.
u/LeonardoDiRaprio · 2 pointsr/ipad

Currently rocking this screen protector with this case. No issues so far, definitely a little heavier now, but enjoying the storage for the pencil and how sturdy it feels.

u/iMau5 · 2 pointsr/ipad

I have this case for my Pro and I love it. It's relatively thin but protective and the foldable cover works well, I've had it a couple months and no complaints with the quality. Feels great.

of course! because it's laptops!

tablets require other level of protection. this case is good for laptops, but it's not protect from bend and this make it unusable for tablets. modern tablets can be bend easily, so you want to carry it, you have to think of sufficient level of protection.

Smart cover, same type of three-fold-triangle-stand thing as the smart cover, some back protection, cheap price, and adds minimal bulk. It's the least-bulky case for the Nexus I could find.

u/ascendr · 4 pointsr/ipad

I use the Poetic Lumos case:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N4LHPZE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I chose this one because I wanted the lightest option I could find while able to use the Apple Smart Cover or Smart Keyboard, and have a spot to attach the Pencil.

u/Unique-Sn0wflake · 1 pointr/Surface

If you're talking about the case, This is the one I've seen

Btw if you want a cheaper one, while searching I saw some more cases with their own stands. The stand wasn't metal like this one tho, it was like a typical iPad stand where it folds to hold the device up. Just search for "surface pro 4 cases" on Amazon im sure you'll see it

Just buy the Moko case. It's $15 and feels like they should be charging twice as much. I've had one on my first gen for nearly a year without any issues ever. When I got one for my 2nd gen it was just as well put together. 4.5 star rating on Amazon with nearly 2700 reviews.

You could use the normal Smart Cover, but I've been using this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07175N8XP/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Slim and protects the iPad on the front and back, which was important to me.

There's also this: https://www.studioneat.com/products/canopy but it doesn't protect the iPad, just the keyboard.

iPad Pro Case

I have to say this is one of the best cases you can ever get, just check out the reviews. Study enough to protect your investment but slim and stylish. I use this along with the Apple magic keyboard 2. I have tried others but I keep going back to the Apple keyboard. It connects quickly, battery life is amazing, you can use shortcuts (including the top function keys). You won’t regret the Apple keyboard. It’s small enough that it doesn’t bother me and the space in my backpack and it’s not always attached. I don’t need it all the time.
