Sorry this is coming late, but I thought I'd give my input since I solely use DVDs now. I definitely have seen results, but you have to make sure you can motivate yourself. Once I get into the groove of it, I'm usually good, though, the past few days I've been bad about it. If I have regular routine, I'm usually good about it and I end up working out 5 times a week, though, the past two weeks I've gotten lazy and worked out maybe 3 or 4 times. But some weeks it happens.

The great thing about DVDs is that I can switch them up and do different ones everyday or do two in one day if they're short DVDs. And since I'm mixing it up all the time, my body doesn't get stuck in a rut and I'm generally sore after each of my workouts.

Anyways, my suggestion would be to look at your local library's selection first. This way you can see what DVDs you like before purchasing them. I've definitely bought a few and now don't ever use them because I don't like something about them. Here are a few suggestions I have, though:

Someone suggested The Firm and I have two that I really like: The Firm: Cardio Overdrive and The Firm Bootcamp - Maximum Calorie Burn. These two are great workouts and mix cardio and plyometrics with weights. The instructor, Alison Davis, is also really good at cuing you. I like going to these DVDs on days I have time (I think they're about 50 minutes, though the Cardio Overdrive has a shorter version that is only 30 minutes or so) and really want a big work out.

Someone also mentioned Jillian Michaels - 30 Day Shred, which I really like. It has three levels and each level has three circuits of strength, cardio, and abs. Each level is about 20 minutes so I like doing this on days I don't have a lot of time. Or some days I'll do level 1 and level 2.

If you're not coordinated or if you're feeling kind of lazy, I'd suggest Leslie Sansone. They're lower impact and don't have a lot of complicated moves. You might not see results as quickly using her DVDs, but getting up and moving is better than nothing! I like Leslie Sansone: 5 Really Big Miles and Leslie Sansone: Walk It Off and Tone It Up. The latter has you using a resistance band while walking. I have to warn you, she can be a bit annoying.

Along with the Firm and Jillian Michaels' 30 Day Shred, I think this one is one of my top favorites: Results Fitness: Boost Your Metabolism. It will make you sweat!

10 Minute Solution: Blast Off Belly Fat is another favorite of mine. It has some really good ab workouts. There are 5 different workouts you can choose and each are 10 minutes. I usually do 3 of the 5 - Flat Belly Fast, Ab Ripper and Six Pack Abs. The other two are good, but I just don't love them as much as the other three.

Quick Fix: Total Cardio Kick is one of the first DVDs I bought and used continuously. There are three 10 minute workouts that each target different parts of the body (arms and back, abs, legs and glutes) and a bonus 10 minute workout that works the whole body. I like doing this when I'm low on time.

Double Pump featuring Shpresa - Lower Body Workout is one of my newer DVDs. The lower body workouts are decent, but I really like her ab workouts. If I'm doing an abs day I'll pop in the 10 Minute Solution DVD and choose the abs workout portion of this DVD and will definitely feel it the next day. This one is really good for working out the lower abs, which I generally have a hard time doing.

Denise Austin has a ton of DVDs out there. She was the first DVD I worked out to (besides my mom's Jane Fonda DVD when I was a little kid). Some of her DVDs are better than others and she can be a little annoying. These two are among her better ones: Denise Austin: Boot Camp - Total Body Blast and Ultimate Fat Burner. They use a step in the Ultimate Fat Burner one, which I don't have, but I still get a great workout just doing it on the floor.

For Pilates, I like doing Crunch - Super SlimDown: Pilates Yoga Blend. It's good without being super annoying.

Another Crunch DVD I like is Crunch: Total Resculpt. It has a bunch of different weight exercises.

Now the title of this one is a little misleading: Ageless with Kathy Smith: Total Body Turnaround. It makes it seem like it's for old people, but I was sore from her weights segment the next day. It's not one of my favorites, though, for some reason.

I just started using this one: Shape Toning Workout: Bikini Body All Year-Round. It takes workouts from their magazine and actually shows you how to do them, which I like. I hate looking down at the magazine while trying to do the different moves.

Self - Slim and Sleek Fast is one that I've had for a while. Oddly enough, it's the same instructor as the Crunch Pilates/Yoga DVD I mentioned earlier. She looks different in this one, but it's the same person! It mixes cardio with weights.

Anyways, there are a million different DVDs out there and these were the ones I could think of off the top of my head. Some of them might not be for you, but hopefully you'll like some of them! Like I said, try checking out your local library first. There's usually a ton. Or ask some of your friends. Just about everyone I know has the Jillian Michaels' 30 Day Shred and they might have a few others.

I like doing DVDs because I don't get bored as easily and it pushes me to do more reps and sets and do cardio longer than I would myself. But you have to make sure you can motivate yourself. Plus, I can wear whatever I want, look stupid, and I don't have to go anywhere!

Good luck!

    >This topic is addressed in our FAQ. See the link for more details about the different dub versions and soundtracks.

There are many different ways to purchase the anime. While all releases of Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball GT are in their native 4:3 fullscreen aspect ratio, most English releases of Dragon Ball Z were cropped to 16:9 widescreen.

  • For Dragon Ball, your best option is the Blue Brick DVD sets. [4:3 Native]
  • For Dragon Ball Z, your best option is the most recent Blu-ray set [16:9 Cropped]
  • For Dragon Ball Kai, your best option is most recent Blu-ray/DVD set. If you prefer Kenji Yamamoto's musical score, you want "Parts 1-4" of the Part set. [4:3 Native]
  • For Dragon Ball GT, your best option is the Green Brick DVD set. [4:3 Native]

    Other releases include:

  • The Dragon Ball Z Orange Brick DVD set [16:9 Cropped], which are criticized for their aggressive filtering, over-contrasted colors, automated center crop, and excessive detail loss during scenes with shaky picture.
  • The Dragon Ball Z Dragon Box set [4:3 Native], the now-out-of-print collector's edition which is considered by many to be the best DVD set of the series. Unfortunately, they run around $700 for a complete set on eBay, and don't include the American broadcast soundtrack.
  • The Dragon Ball Z Blu-ray Level Sets [4:3 Native], the now-cancelled Blu-ray set which was praised for its faithful colors, grain preservation and original 4:3 aspect ratio.
  • The Dragon Ball Z "Rock The Dragon" set [4:3 Native], which contains all 53 episodes of the original Ocean Group dub.

If you prefer a stream, you can watch the series on several online services including FUNimation. Streams are available subbed or dubbed, but both versions will feature the original Japanese soundtrack.

I'm 21, 6'2" and 190. Before the MSF class, I had never ridden anything, so I know exactly how you feel. Let me see what I can do:

> So, besides taking the MSF course, what can I do to learn more?

After the MSF class, read or watch Twist of the Wrist 2
(note: you can find these elsewhere for free) TotW 1 is good too, but 2 is more focused on practical street riding.

> What should I know (I realize this may be early since I haven't had any experience yet)?

Before you even touch a bike, you should know that motorcycles are in fact dangerous when compared to other methods of transportation. Be knowledgeable of the studies that prove it. Also, understand that while the activity is inherently dangerous there are many ways to reduce risk. The MSF class should cover most of this, but here's a couple that should be drilled into your head:

  • Gear up. All of it. Helmet, Jacket, Gloves, Boots, and something on your legs with more protection than a pair of Levi's.

  • Gear up ALL THE TIME

  • Don't ride in blind spots

  • Always be aware of your surroundings

  • Ride like every car is trying to kill you, because they are

  • Don't be a squid

    >Here in Arizona passing the MSF course waives your skills and written test for a license and I have a hard time believing that 2.5 days of experience is enough for me to feel comfortable riding around without more practice.

I took the MSF class and picked up a Ninja 250 a month later with no practice in between. I puttered around the neighborhood streets for a while (about 200 miles worth of residential and <40mph streets) before I took it out on the highway. Mostly, work on your coordination. Keeping track of what gear you're in and what order you pull levers and push pedals can be confusing when you're also making sure you don't get run over. Practice until you're confident.

    > Also, I was looking around some dealers this past weekend and almost unanimously they said to ignore the MSF teachers' advice to go for a 250cc bike for a learner because I would "outgrow" it within a few months.

Wrong. Well, Kind of. It's less the amount of time you own it and more the amount of technically challenging miles you've put on it. One piece of advice I love to give to people considering the 250 is this: Don't ever let anyone tell you that you need to have a big bike to be a good rider.

I had my 250 for 3 months and put 3800 miles on it and I was still working on my form when I wrecked it. The people that get bored with a 250 in a couple months are the ones that go fast in straight lines. They upgrade to a 600 supersport, lowside it once and get scared shitless. It's why there are so many cosmetically damaged supersports on the market.

    > I've seen a lot of testimonials to the contrary and I mentioned that and then they said that it would be a safety issue, where a larger bike could accelerate out of accidents that a smaller one would get trapped in. Really, I just get the feeling that they are trying to upsell me on a larger bike but I was curious if these things are true.

Plausible, but unlikely. Power is no substitute for safe riding. I feel a little safer in traffic on my 600 than I did on my 250 simply because I can get out of blind spots faster, but all I'm doing is accelerating to get out of someone's way instead of braking.

And yes, the dealer is definitely trying to sell you a bigger bike. Bigger bike, more money, more commission.

    > Finally (wow this is a lot of questions) I was looking at a Ninja 250R, probably a used one since the refresh a couple of years ago. Any input on that as a starter bike?

You should check out r/250r for fellow redditors with the 250r. Also, ninja250.org has one of the biggest knowledge databases on the two-fiddy.

    > I know it's a "sportbike" but it seems more like a standard bike with rider positioning. Also, would a guy of my height have an issue with one? I sat on one and compared to other bikes I felt like I was sitting very low and wasn't sure if that was a good thing or not.

Inseam matters more than height. Cycle-ergo is an awesome tool that can tell you roughly where your knees will be and how much you have to lean. Honestly, at 6'2", the 250 was a little small for me. I had one of the older ones which was slightly different, but the new ones I sat on at the dealer were also cramped though there are guys taller than me that ride them comfortably. Next time you go to the dealer, sit on one with your hands on the handlebars and stay there for a while. If it seems a little small don't worry, there are a handful of things you can do to change the ergonomics of the bike. If you're completely uncomfortable after 10 minutes, you may want to look at a bigger bike. (Not a supersport.)

    > Basically, any advice you can give me would be great!

I know I threw a lot at you and it may be a little overwhelming. You did the right thing by signing up for the MSF class to see if you're truly interested. If you don't make it through the class, don't worry; riding isn't for everyone. It's dangerous, it's expensive and it's certainly a lifestyle change. You'll find yourself going out of your way to hit the twisties and showing up late to things. You'll neglect other projects on the weekends so you can get some seat time. You'll shave your head to avoid helmet-hair. You'll hear the sound of an engine and whip your head around trying to see what kind of bike it's coming from. You'll lean into turns in your car.

But riding is also one of the most rewarding experiences in the world. Getting over the fear, accepting the danger and finally throwing a leg over a bike is a feeling like no other. Once you do that, you get to experience the silent camaraderie of "the wave," the butterflies in your stomach just as you lean into a corner, the feeling you get whenever you see one of those 'curvy road ahead' signs, the exhilaration of completing a perfect set of twisties, and much, much more.

Riding is awesome, and I'm sure you'll love it. Good luck in your class!

EDIT: Downvotes? Seriously? I sure hope that was a bot.

Before I bought my Technics I owned a Stanton STR8 wich handled pretty well for the price. The torque is not on par with proper turntables but you can work with it. In time and with practise you'll know how the drive functions, i.e. how much pressure to apply, torque spin recovery and such. Quick ebay search I saw them go for about 70 dollars used.

I still use mine today for record digging and sampling and it still functions after hundreds of hours.

I really have a bad experience with numark turntables and would advise against them. And they're a terrible eyesore.

Ecler Nuo 2 would be my mixer of choice. Well built, good component, sounds nice, compact and costs about 100 doilla used if you're lucky. Another choice could be a Vestax PMC-05

Remember that cartridges also cost money. I personally use Shure M44-7's and I'd recommend them. The Ortofon Concords are also nice.

That is probably over the budget which is way to low. Trust me vinyl djing is not cheap but it is very rewarding. I like the idea that you want to start on vinyl. Transitioning to cdj's or controllers in the future will be a lot easier rather than then the other way around.

I'd also recommend getting a DVS system or a DVS integrated mixer. There's a lot more creative freedom with that to experiment with different things. You also don't have to spend as much on vinyl.

Don't forget the headphones! Out of budget, again. You can go with something cheaper, just try to get closed and on-ears.

But you're starting to see a trend right? 300 dollars are just not gonna cut it in my opinion. Even if you manage to get everything with that budget it's most likely going to perform really poor which makes everything less enjoyable, and more importantly.... harder. And learning to play vinyl is hard enough to begin with.

And I'm not saying go drop 2 grand on industry standard gear. Just... you know maybe save up to like 6-700 maybe. just so everything functions nice and well. Buy used gear, do research, practise practise practise and have fun :)

PS. This helped me out a lot when I was starting, and is very good information and lessons on turntablism. It also goes over basic turntable setup, i.e. arm adjustments, need and cartridge maintainance etc

Your submission has been removed for the following reason:

>This topic is addressed in our FAQ.

  • Dragon Ball tells the story of Goku through the end of his childhood and spans 153 episodes. It is the foundational story of Goku and his friends, and skipping it is not recommended. If you want to skip filler episodes, you can use this guide.
  • Then, watch EITHER Dragon Ball Z OR Dragon Ball Z Kai.
  • Dragon Ball Z spans 291 episodes. The Japanese voice actors were in their prime when recording Z, and the Funimation home release with subtitles by Steve Simmons is highly recommended. The Funimation dub, on the other hand, is notorious for its inexperienced voice actors and egregiously creative translations. If you want to skip filler episodes, use this guide.
  • Dragon Ball Z Kai spans 167 episodes in the international version and 159 episodes in the Japanese version. It is a remastered version of Z with the majority of the filler removed. The Funimation dub offers a now-veteran cast and considerably more accurate translations. If you have no nostalgia for the original Z dub, this is the recommended route.
  • Dragon Ball Super comes next, according to in-story chronology. It begins about 4 years after the final battle of Dragon Ball Z, or about 6 years before the 10-year time skip at the end of Z (episodes 289-291). The first two arcs of Super are retellings of the final two Dragon Ball Z films (14 and 15), so you have a handful of choices on how to continue the story:
  • The more complete route (recommended): Watch the JSAT special and Battle of Gods. From there, read Jaco the Galactic Patrolman, and watch Resurrection 'F'. When finished, move on to Dragon Ball Super.
  • The anime-only route: Skip straight to Dragon Ball Super, understanding that it adapts Battle of Gods and Resurrection 'F' into story arcs, with some details changed. For a list of changes, see here and here, scrolling down to "Main Differences From the Theatrical Film".
  • The combination Super/Movies route: Watch episodes 1 and 2 of Dragon Ball Super. Watch Battle of Gods. Watch Episodes 15-18 of Dragon Ball Super. Watch Resurrection 'F'. See this post, then continue with Episode 28 of Super.
  • The quickest route (for the lazy/impatient): Watch Battle of Gods and Resurrection 'F'. See this post, then continue with Episode 28 of Super.
  • Dragon Ball GT spans 64 episodes and begins 5 years after the 10-year time skip at the end of Dragon Ball Z, i.e. well after the time setting of Super. It follows those events, but it is the only series not based on a story by Akira Toriyama, and its continuity has been overwritten by Dragon Ball Super.
  • The rest of the movies/specials are separate from the main storyline, and are entirely optional. If you'd like to watch all of the movies and specials in the order released, use this list.

Someone recently asked if Dragon Ball would ever make it to Bluray. To quote /u/VegettoEX:

>Asked often, but no real updates. For an actual HD release, someone would need to pony up and scan film masters. Right now, that would have to be Toei; FUNimation's current masters are digibeta tapes at best.
I mean, they could do an upscaled release to Blu-ray, but that'd be a lot more trouble than it's worth with their current materials, and if they crop anything else... (insert fist-shaking here)
I would honestly expect to see something from Toei on Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball GT in HD before I would expect to see it from FUNimation.

That being said, our FAQ in the sidebar has a list of your options when it comes to purchasing the series.

>##Q: What is the best way to purchase the anime?
A: There are many different ways to purchase the anime. While all releases of Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball GT are in their native 4:3 fullscreen aspect ratio, most English releases of Dragon Ball Z were cropped to 16:9 widescreen.

>* For Dragon Ball, your best option is the Blue Brick DVD sets. [4:3 Native]

  • For Dragon Ball Z, your best option is the most recent Bluray set. [16:9 Cropped]
  • For Dragon Ball Z Kai, your best option is most recent Bluray/DVD set. If you prefer Kenji Yamamoto's musical score, you want "Parts 1-4" of the Part set. [4:3 Native]
  • For Dragon Ball GT, your best option is the Green Brick DVD set. [4:3 Native]

    >Other releases include:

    >* The Dragon Ball Z Orange Brick DVD set [16:9 Cropped], which are criticized for their aggressive filtering, over-contrasted colors, automated center crop, and excessive detail loss during scenes with shaky picture.
  • The Dragon Ball Z Dragon Box set [4:3 Native], the now-out-of-print collector's edition which is considered by many to be the best DVD set of the series. Unfortunately, they run around $700 for a complete set on eBay, and don't include the American broadcast score.
  • The Dragon Ball Z Bluray Level Sets [4:3 Native], the now-cancelled Bluray set which was praised for its faithful colors, grain preservation and original 4:3 aspect ratio.
  • The Dragon Ball Z "Rock The Dragon" set [4:3 Native], which contains all 53 episodes of the original Ocean Group dub.
u/FatNigger69 · 2 pointsr/dbz

The closest to the "originals" would be the Dragon Box set, but that's going to run you a ton of money on eBay. Here is a list of choices for you.

  • For Dragon Ball, your best option is the Blue Brick DVD sets. [4:3 Native]

  • The Dragon Ball Z Orange Brick DVD set [16:9 Cropped], which are criticized for their aggressive filtering, over-contrasted colors, automated center crop, and excessive detail loss during scenes with shaky picture.
  • The Dragon Ball Z Dragon Box set [4:3 Native], the now-out-of-print collector's edition which is considered by many to be the best DVD set of the series. Unfortunately, they run around $700 for a complete set on eBay.

As for whether Kai is good or not, I prefer it to the original. The pacing is great, and the English dub is much better in terms of acting and script accuracy, though there's some censorship in the first few episodes, and the redrawn scenes look off.

There's only one way that I know of to buy pre-Z Dragon Ball uncut and in its entirety. You'll want to pick yourself up the Blue Bricks. The quality isn't terrible compared to the Orange Bricks. Don't forget about the movies.

For Z, you'll definitely want to avoid the Orange Bricks. The only good thing about this release is that it finally made Dragon Ball Z easy to buy without collecting endless DVDs. But the picture is botched up beyond being saved, and it's cropped to widescreen. Ideally you'd want to purchase the Dragon Boxes, but they're out-of-print and cost a pretty penny. Maybe check eBay if you're interested. You're probably going to want to go with the latest Blu-Ray releases. They're still cropped like the Orange Bricks, but they're a superior overall product even if they still aren't up to par with what we should be getting. Pick up the movies and Battle of Gods too.

GT is pretty simple. Buy the Green Brick. Like the pre-Z Blue Brick, the "remastering" didn't destroy the integrity of the product. It also comes with the one GT TV special. Yay!

And if you're interested in what order you should watch all this, check out our guide.

I found interval training worked for me. I also woke up to the fact one day that I was 30 and I wasn't ever going to get healthier, everything was downhill from here on out. I radically revamped my diet to exclude nearly everything which might increase my risk of stroke, heart attack or cancer (I eat what most folks call a vegetarian diet now, but I'm pretty loose...and I'll have a cig or three once a week if I'm at the bar with friends). About six months ago I started working out.

http://www.amazon.com/Jillian-Michaels-30-Day-Shred/dp/B00127RAJY

It's what one would call interval training. Twenty minutes of extremely condensed activity. I like it because in the morning before I have any excuse of anything else I need to do, I can squeeze in an amazing amount of effort before breakfast. My time is precious to me, I really enjoy lazing about (reading your description, I was like "hey, that sounds like me!").

Here's probably the best review on amazon for this DVD. I feel so much healthier now that I am both eating better and getting a real workout 5 days a week:

>I had never purchased a Jillian Michaels DVD before b/c of the hit or miss reviews. So when I heard raves about this one, I decided to give it a shot and I am so glad I did. This is an absolute butt-kicker workout. I am an intermediate/advanced exerciser (I work out 5-6 days a week) so I figured I could see what Level 1 was all about and move onto Level 2 right away. Listen to me folks--these workouts are HARD. Level 2 was VERY difficult--a good difficult though, very challenging. When Jillian tells you to start at level 1, listen to her she knows what she's doing. I've been at this for about 5 days, and I already feel a difference in my body.
Jillian is tough--absolutely NO rest in this workout (not even for a sip of water) but that's what makes it go by so quickly, and it makes your body change, according to Jillian. You're done before you know it--but by the end you've gotten a kick butt workout and feel like you've really done something. She bases her workout on the 3-2-1 method: 3 mins strength, 2 mins cardio, 1 min abs. Her strength circuits remind me of Jari Love--compound exercises that work the upper and lower body simultaneously. The cardio is good as well: a lot of jumping, so watch those knees (she has a modifier for beginner and lower impact) And the abs is straight up ab work--a variety of crunches and twists on the floor.

Well first I hope you have the happiest of birthdays :) 28 is going to be a super awesome year for you.

My favorite birthday was hands down my 21st. My mom convinced my dad to let her use their Am Ex points and she flew us three and a friend of mine to Chicago for 5 days and paid for everything for us and got us tickets to Lollapalooza. I'm super big into music and that was just so so so amazing and we had so much fun! The day of my bday I was having a crap morning and she called cheered me up and was like oh "I put a little Happy Bday money in your account" yeahhhh I checked my acct $2100 I legit started screaming in Panara haha. For reference my bday was in June and Lolla was in Aug.

Happy Birthday

Here's the copypasta of my /r/loseit post so you don't need to click:

[And] here's my 1 year post from January, for most of the details about where/how I started and what I've been doing.

Stats:

  • 32, Female
  • 166cm/5'5.5"
  • Start date/weight: January 2012, 114kg/252lb, BF% 50+ (not sure)
  • Current weight: 80kg/176lb, BF% 34.7 (US Navy formula)
  • Goal weight: 59kg/130lb (or whenever the measurements/size/abilities feel right)

Food: mostly slow carb (legumes, veggies, protein), one cheat day a week. Occasional other cheat days for special occasions/holidays.

Exercise: was very sporadic, but I'm close to finishing my second round of the 30 Day Shred (with some rest days this time), and have just started with the Zombies, Run! C25K training app (but damn it is hot where I am at the moment). I can't believe that I am a person who considers exercise a part of her life now (at least recently)! It is weird to realise sometimes, but I really enjoy seeing what my body can do and getting noticeably stronger (there are muscles under here somewhere!). I have started worrying about the scale a lot less, and focusing on skills and measurements more.

Tracking: I keep a ridiculously detailed and ever-expanding spreadsheet on Google Docs which includes (but is not limited to) weight in kilos and pounds, 7 day moving average, moving difference over 1, 2, 4, and 8 weeks, projections, goals and dates achieved, graphs, measurements, and body fat percentage. I also track steps, exercise, and weight with Fitbit, and then view yet more graphs with TrendWeight and WeightGrapher. I take weekly measurements and progress photos and keep them in a diary app on my phone (Memoires for those who are interested. I like it because it gives the option to keep the photos encrypted and separate from the rest of the ones in the main memory).

Motivation: I've gotten to the point where I'm just doing what I'm doing, which is kind of awesome. The food is never a huge problem (although I do get tempted to snack sometimes), but I found that if I wasn't "doing" exercise (e.g. if I felt like I was taking a break for a few days), it was way too easy to just lapse. So currently I am exercising. That's just the way it is. I also signed up for the most recent round of /r/90daysgoal, and the community there is awesome at being supportive, helpful, and knowledgeable. I've read a couple of self-help-ish books, and though I haven't actively followed any plans, I've definitely incorporated a lot of the concepts into my daily thinking and planning. I'm also motivated by my ridiculous spreadsheet, and the awesome stories here and on /r/progresspics.

    Recent SVs:

  • Reached my first major weight goal (80kg), which also puts me at -30% of my starting weight (more importantly, I have lost over half of my starting fat).
  • Officially overweight rather than obese (yeah, yeah, BMI means nothing, but it's a trackable metric).

    Recent NSVs:

  • UK size 12-14 dress size (down from probably about 22). Bras are down from about 40-42F/FF to 34F (yay, proportional losing!).
  • -33cm/13 inches from my waist/belly measurements.
  • Push ups! I can do them!
  • Even though they are labelled XXXL (or 2XL or 4XL), I can actually fit into some of the clothes available in China for Chinese people. It's a start!
  • I've had my Fitbit for a year now, and in that time I have done nearly 3 million steps and 2500km.

Harrison's dvd will still be good for you. I feel he does a good experience in explaining how he plays and his breakdowns of complicated Porcupine Tree stuff, which really help you get an idea of good ways to play polyrythms, independence, and just some great playing.

But if you're really looking for technique sorts of things, I always recommend Thomas Lang - Creative Coordination and Jojo Mayer - Secrets of the Modern Drummer for feet and hands, respectively.

They are both highly acclaimed due to their fantastic presentation and production value, along with two of the great modern masters imparting valuable knowledge to whomever takes the time to learn it!

u/PhysicallyTheGrapist · 5 pointsr/drums

Rudiments are a good place to start learning drums, as well as some notation / music theory. Here's some free websites that I use:

http://vicfirth.com/40-essential-rudiments/

http://www.snarescience.com/index.php

Around here, every one recommends Stick Control and Jojo Mayer's Secret Weapons for the Modern Drummer DVD, but I have never used them.

Music wise, I'm sure there's something you like that is approachable. A lot of Alt-rock like The Strokes, the White Stripes, Black Keys has pretty straightforward drum parts.

As for lessons, it isn't a bad idea to take even just a month of lessons to assist you in basic hand / foot technique as well as musical notation.

Good luck on your drumming journey!

Manga Entertainment's release of the 'digitally remastered' sets, known as the Orange Bricks, both contain the Bruce Faulconer score and Shunsuke Kikuchi score. Audio is English+Kikuchi score, Japanese+Kikuchi score, and English+Faulconer score. Bare in mind this isn't the best release of Dragon Ball Z you can buy on the market. Quite honestly, I would invest the money into the blu-ray sets.

As a former anime nerd I have snooped and found some age appropriate potential gifts (I don't know what she's seen though!)

Rylee:

u/EmmaWinters · 12 pointsr/dbz

>I personally own all the original DBZ remastered DVDs [...] they also seem to be the worst option?

They're easily the worst-looking release, yes.

The "Orange Brick" DVDs were treated with an aggressive noise filter, the colors are overly-contrasted, and with the early seasons, excessive detail loss occurs during scenes with shaky picture. These aren't cherry-picked images, either. In fact, those aren't even the worst examples I can give.

>I considered maybe checking out the Blu-Ray Remastereds if possible because of the better cropping, but I also heard they suffer from some issues as well.

The Blu-ray releases suffer from similar issues that plague the DVDs (intense grain removal filters, 16:9 cropping), but have substantially better colors, contrast and framing. Compared to the DVDs and their automated center crop, most scenes on the Blu-rays were manually framed, meaning less heads and mouths are out of shot.

>The Dragon Box is an option [...] Unless they're available online for free (like officially, not piracy) that seems like a very unlikely option.

You're kinda out of luck there. The Dragon Boxes are currently a collectors' item, and go for a lot of money. I would recommend the Blu-rays to you if you're purchasing Dragon Ball Z.

>Originally I was just going to watch Dragonball Z Kai. But, I'm not sure if I'd be comfortable with the new dubbed voices to be honest, and I also kind of liked some of the filler

If script integrity has any importance to you, Dragon Ball Z Kai has a much more faithful-to-the-Japanese English dub than Dragon Ball Z does, and as a result, it is often recommended to those who do not wish to watch the series subtitled.

If you're already sold on the "original" dub and American replacement score, I recommend the Blu-ray season sets. But if you're open to some minor casting changes, I strongly urge you to watch Dragon Ball Z Kai. If you decide to watch Kai, you should know that the Majin Buu arc has yet to be released outside of Japan. Because of this, you will need to switch to episode 200 of Dragon Ball Z after finishing episode 98.
