u/StrawberryKink · 67 pointsr/TryingForABaby

Cycle: 6 (5 after miscarriage, 9 months total)

Ovulation cycle day: 18

Relevant BD/BD method (SMEP, Shettles, etc.): O-2, O-1

Tracking methods and apps used: Vaginal temping, TempDrop (although it was my first month so I wasn't relying on it), Fertility Friend

Symptom spotting: None, just my usual progesterone symptoms of tender breasts, dried up CM, and slightly reduced sex drive.

Day of positive test(s): Evening of 9DPO. For some reason I was extra hopeful this cycle and had been testing since 6DPO (even though I goddamn well know better.... lol). By 9DPO I was super pissy and decided to engage in further self torture and add in an evening test since I realized I hadn't had anything to drink in a few hours. It was veeeeeery faintly positive, and has been progressing since. Now my tests show up positive as the urine travels across the test line, so I guess we're progressing okay. :)

Supplements and medications: 1000mcg folic acid (can be found here for very cheap, I've been using this since starting TTC ) and Blood Builder iron pills since I'm anemic and was due to start iron infusions before I lost my pregnancy last time. Trying to avoid that this time around!

Birth control history, if relevant: I have tried every birth control under the sun. Pill, ring, patch, depo shot, condoms, female condoms, sponge, contraceptive film, Mirena. Most recent was Copper IUD, I had it out mid cycle in November 2017 and waited a full cycle before TTC.

Typical cycle length: Average 29 days per FF.

Health conditions/medical tests: None related to TTC.

Link to chart: Here, with vaginal temps in blue, post algorithm TempDrop in the background in orange.

Link to lineporn: Here's yesterday's test, 15DPO, the line is finally quite strong.

This was the original squinter.

Other (advice, magic secrets, freaking out, miscellaneous): No advice, this is a shitty road and I'm sorry that any of us are here, I wish we could all just decide when we want to be pregnant and it would happen with no trouble and no miscarriages. I had an anembryonic pregnancy last time and needed a D&C at 11 weeks, so I'll be nervous until I have my first ultrasound to show that there's really a fetus in there, but I'm very much practicing "today I'm pregnant" and trying to enjoy the moment. I've made a lot of really good friends here and in Still Trying, and I've been incredibly thankful for these communities and all I've learned here and all the people who know exactly what I'm going through. It's truly invaluable, you women are wonderful and I hope you all know that.

I've been taking Hair, Skin, and Nails Extra Strength since the beginning of February and have seen drastic improvement in my skin, with some hair and nail improvements. I had acne-prone, oily skin with crazy dryness, too. (AKA dehydrated) Prior to starting biotin, I changed up my routine and saw a dermatologist, which helped a lot, but I think the Biotin is really keeping things on track.

My Routine is super basic. AM is just water and a gentle wipe with a washcloth, with a sunscreen and CeraVe PM lotion. PM, I follow the Oil Cleansing Method with mineral oil on my cheekbones, nose, and forehead, let it sit, and massage it off (and the rest of my face, too) gently at the end of my shower with a warm washcloth. Afterwards, I use St. Ives Exfoliating Pads, let dry, and follow with more CeraVe PM.

Biotin is working for me, and so is my skincare routine, but I'd really recommend checking out /r/SkincareAddiction for more comprehensive advice. Biotin does cause acne for some people, but so do new products, resting your hand on your chin, sleeping on one side of your face too much, and lots more. Check that sub out, and stick with it a little bit before you give up. Good luck!

edit: grammar
edit #2: This is relevant if you want to check your routine to be sure it's not a product you're using.

Congrats on the incoming munchkin!

Now, I don't have any first hand experience myself, but I've researched this issue for family members before.

The prenatal vitamin you'll probably want is this: http://www.amazon.com/Rainbow-Light-Prenatal-Multivitamin-150-Count/dp/B00115BJ30

It's food-based so it should sit well with your tummy, and it's totally vegan. Best to take it during meals. Personally I'd recommend splitting each tablet in half, take one of the halves(The larger one if you cut unevenly) at breakfast, and the other half at dinnertime. Otherwise probably just in the morning.

You definitely want to avoid Fish Oil, the mercury content does more damage than the Omega 3's can do good. I recommend this instead: http://www.amazon.com/Ovega-3-Vegetarian-Softgels-500-Count/dp/B004LL7AXE/

Direct source of DHA sourced from golden algae(Which is where a lot of fish get it from in the first place!), grown in algae factories so there should be no fear of mercury contamination. Since you're pregnant I'd probably say take one at breakfast time, and another at dinner time, as their content isn't quite as high as Fish Oil pills.

Finally, definitely want to make sure you're getting enough B12, so I wouldn't rely on the multivitamin for that. I'd say get this: http://www.amazon.com/Aerobic-Life-AdvantageTM-Methylcobalamin-500mcg/dp/B0014JOBXS

Take a spray once per day in the morning with breakfast(You can even spray it into your drink/food). Little bit overkill, but with B12 that's not a problem, and since you're nomming for two, it can only help!

Good luck parenting! :D

Don’t know where you’re located but I recently did a big chop and my hair has been growing! This stuff is better than any gummies I’ve ever used.

Lack of pleasure (anhedonia) and lack of motivation (which works through the expectation of pleasure) indicate low dopamine, but the question is why your dopamine is low. Maybe you have low testosterone and/or estrogen because of undiagnosed hypogonadism, which itself might be caused by another stressor. Maybe you have undiagnosed hypothyroidism which jacks up norepinephrine levels and in the process sucks up dopamine from which it comes.

Either way, the main cofactor for the enzyme that synthesizes dopamine is vitamin B6. The active form of this is called P5P, and can be bought cheaply online. I generally recommend people to try a whole set of methylated (i.e., activated) B vitamins, like this.

Dopamine is synthesized from l-dopa, which in turn is made from the amino acid tyrosine, which you can also get through supplement form (l-tyrosine). I'd also recommend getting a basic thyroid hormone panel pulled (TSH, free T3, free T4) as well as (for males) total and free testosterone and estradiol. There are definitely other causes, but these are good places to start.

Niacinamide has been a HUGE game changer for my skin (I have oily/combination/acne prone skin). The decrease in sebum production for me has been astounding. Not to mention the fading of sunspots and pigmentation, along with changing the overall appearance and texture of my skin. I will never not have it in my routine again.

That being said, I also have tried the TO niacinamide 10% + zinc 1% and it WRECKED HAVOC on my face. The 10% is just way too harsh in my experience and I suffered irritation, dryness, and breakouts with it.

I don't know why it isn't more popular here, but I consider Clear Skin by PCA a HG product. It has really changed my skin for the better. It contains just 5% Niacinamide along with gentle, quality ingredients. I love all PCA products...though they tend to be on the pricier side.

Also, If you have a moisturizer you already love, you can add Niacinamide (also known as Vitamin B3) to it very easily. You can buy it in bulk on amazon in powder form. All you have to do is figure out the percentage of how much you'd like to add to your moisturizer (by weight) and mix it in. I would start at 2% and work your way up from there.

I know my wife takes Myo Inositol with D Chiro Inositol. She says it helps her with her mood swings and also helps with some of her "women" issues. As far as I read (I love to researching all kinds of supplements) - D Chiro is good coz it increases effectiveness of myo.

Has anyone tried this combo before?

I see some people in this thread recommend Magnesium and Choline, I will ask her to try it as well! I wish there was a single supplement that had all of them together. I remember she used to buy Myo and D Chiro separately as well, which I know, because I had to pay my credit card bill, and it is pretty expensive :)

Now she uses combined one, and she says it does the same thing.

It depends on what the problem is, to be honest.

First you should see if you can find what I call a "sounding board." It's just someone who will let you scream and yell and rant or cry and be miserable but not offer advice/consolation unless you specifically ask for it. This is really cathartic, I don't know why.

Second, take a really hot shower and cry or scream. I'm not kidding, this is the most amazing release ever. From a brain chemistry/physiology perspective, what's happening is that all of your muscles are relaxing for the shower, then the screaming or crying (whatever you need to do) released endorphins, but EXTRA endorphins because all of your body is relaxed from the shower, and that gives you a really nice calm, sometimes happy afterglow type feeling. This is especially effective because when you have this calm/clear headed afterglow, you can find answers to your problems or finally release whatever is bothering you OR you can be in the right mindset to take steps towards solving your problems, both physical and mental steps forward :) It's a really incredible release. An alternative to shower is really hot bath, with the lights off. Just close your eyes, relax, and cry or scream or just lay there silently and let everything go...very nice.

I have lots of other things that help me out, if you're interested. Something that I've found works surprisingly well is just taking a complete "B" vitamin...it really fights off the "I don't want to get out of bed, I hate my life, I'm not going anywhere, I can't do anything, I just want to make up alternative realities in my head and stay in bed all day" mindset. [This] (http://www.amazon.com/Solgar-B-Complex-Vegetable-Capsules-Count/dp/B000RZQNV8/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1382111553&sr=8-3&keywords=b+complex+100) is the one that I use and it's pretty affective :) It DID make me really sleepy and lethargic for the first three or four days that I took it, but once my body got used to it, I was fine :)

I'm not reading your post as rambling at all, actually, as it's quite specific to my interests! I also have been diagnosed with inattentive type ADHD which I've really struggled with, and symptoms I'd describe as similar to yours. Lack of motivation with a big side helping of anxiety, in my case. I wasn't able to tolerate any of the medications suggested by my P-doc, even Strattera which they give little kids. Reactions ranged from insomnia to personality changes to severe depression to, in one case a 103 degree fever! Go figure. I've had some luck with hemp oil, but sure wish I'd known I have essentially the worst case scenario for COMT mutations before I got onto the merry go round.

I don't want to get your hopes up, but I've been taking methylfolate for a couple of weeks now, a smallish dose still to be sure I could tolerate it (this is what I'm taking.) Yesterday I started supplementing with this SAM-e and.... the wire chewing feeling and dizziness (probably from hunger) went away and I feel really good! I'm noticing improvements in energy level and alertness, mostly. I'm afraid to get my own hopes up because I've had so many problems with medications generally but if this works without intolerable side effects it's going to be a life changer.

Drop me a PM or @ me here any time if you want to compare notes. I'm cutting the pills in half b/c I'm so sensitive to meds generally but hope to increase the dose before long. I'm taking 100 mg of SAM-e for now.

Update: Had to discontinue sam-E because I developed severe insomnia, and I suspect it made my PMDD worse. Also, vestibular migraines kicked up which may be a result of whatever was going on with my hormones. Will update in another month with whether I'm still having PMDD/migraine issues for any women who may try this stuff.

Yep it is natural (vitamin b8). I would recommend using combination of D Chiro and Myo, as D Chiro improves absorption of Myo. I use this brand of inositol , however there are others that people like as well. I take 2050mg a day. I found in brought my cycles back, i have less mood swings. One of my girlfriend, after starting inositol was able to get pregnant in couple of months. I also like that it is natural, so better for your health.

i take a multi - before i started even losing any weight my doc recommended i try to find one with vitamin D and iron. i've taken the rainbow one women's multi for a couple years now - it doesn't upset my stomach and i have no complaints. no idea if it's effective or not but i continue.

i supplement my fiber - i've tried a half dozen different varieties and settled on this powder. it doesn't taste great but it works and it's easier for me to down a little glass than pop 6 capsules, etc.

i also take biotin - i have always had fine hair but around 70lbs down, found it was thinning significantly. my protein and fat macros were still looking good, and my multi is almost equivalent to a lot of prenatals, but i added in this biotin. i've been taking it for about 6 months and have noticed a definite uptick in new hair growth; although i have also been maintaining for about the last 6 months so i can't say for sure it's the biotin.

i eat protein bars quite a bit as well, although i typically have them as lunch instead of in a supplement role. i've tried most flavors from b-up, one, muscle pharm, quest and more, and my favorites are quest's apple pie flavor and muscle pharm's cinnamon combat crunch bar.

Skincare Rave I just started oil cleansing with evening primrose oil, and I really enjoy seeing the makeup just melt off on my cotton ball. Weirdly satisfying. I haven't completely converted over from cleansing with cold cream, but it might be coming. (And no breakouts! No rosacea flair ups!)

Makeup Rave I got Bite Lip Crayons a while back, but recently added the Red Velvet color to my 'daily face'. Love it! It stays so much better than regular lipstick, while also not being as drying as regular matte lippies. The color is BOLD and awesome. :)

Makeup Rant I decided to try out Jane Iredale Liquid Minerals foundation for its 'natural' blah blah. I hate it. The coverage is non-existent in my color (palest). Like I literally feel like it's clear, and I'm just putting moisturizer on my face. Yah for wasting $50!

Nailcare Rant of the friggin year - OPI Nail Envy for Sensitive/Peeling! This little bottle of nail death has KILLED all the progress I've made on my nails over the last few months. I've been taking Biotin and adding collagen to my coffee, and my nails have flourished! Then I use this Nail Envy crap on my fingernails just for the heck of it (cause I got it for my toes), and I have had broken nail after broken nail after friggin broken nail!

Also, that collagen I linked above - I'm in love! I got it because my mom read that it's good for thyroid/autoimmune issues, and I've noticed a significant increase in my energy level on top of the nice hair and nail growth...minus the sad effect of body hair ALSO growing in faster, haha.

That's great! If it's working for you that's really good, and to be honest, buproprion is a lot scarier then a quarter dose of lithium. Just do some research on how lithium affects sodium, potassium, magnesium and the kidneys. You might need to be more diligent than average with making sure electrolytes stay balanced. Although at that dose, I'm talking more out of caution than worry. Genuinely though, congrats. Bupropion largely works on the cetecholamines dopamine and norepinephrine. I have noticed that people with a catecholamine issue often respond well to the coenzyme form of B vitamins, since they're needed almost through every step of neurotransmitter sysnthesis. They get depleted during stress, and are hard to replete one at a time from diet. Here is what I take. Any good product will have the same ingredients if you read the label.

u/wickvit1 · 5 pointsr/thebachelor

I've posted this before, but don't waste your time on sugar bear hair. Order this instead: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OJOFX2S?psc=1

It's the same thing, but for 10 bucks. I'm on my second bottle and my hair definitely feels better, plus they're delicious.

u/borahorzagobuchol · 3 pointsr/vegan

Keep in mind that though this represents 80% of your daily B12, you would need to eat it at three separate points during the day in order to absorb it at a reasonable level. Or, to put this another way, just straight eating this block would not actually give you 80% of your B12 RDA.

The good news is all sorts of other products like soy/almond milk and meat substitutes are also fortifying in a similar way, making it easier than ever to consume your B12 in multiple servings throughout the day. Or any one of a number of exceedingly cheap and safe supplements of 2500mg, once a week, and you are good to go.

u/mikethetechie · 14 pointsr/WTF

5-HTP is sold over the counter as an antidepressant, appetite suppressant, and sleep aid.

L-tryptophan is a natural amino acid and is a compound used in the creation of serotonin and can also be bought over the counter in supplement form (used as an antidepressant and sleep aid) but it also occurs naturally in many foods.

As Anonymous_69 stated, Vitamin B (particularly B6) works well too as it helps convert the tryptophan into serotonin. Vitamin B also helps in the generation of dopamine.

u/KerfuffleV2 · 1 pointr/Cringetopia

> because thats a total cop out, as I mentioned you can claim any diet is healthy if you pump the required human nutrients in it.

It's one single nutrient that's easy and practical to get a sufficient amount of either by consuming fortified foods (basically all plant-based milks are fortified with B12, for example) or taking a small tablet every so often. Also omnivores eat many fortified foods as well. The vast majority of breakfast cereals are fortified with vitamins and minerals. Dairy milk is usually fortified with vitamin A and D and so on. It's highly unlikely there are no fortified foods currently in your diet.

To make a pure meat diet healthy you'd likely have to supplement significantly more nutrients. Generally speaking, most heath and dietary organizations recommend eating less meat and other animal products so it's dubious that the baseline of pure meat diets would be equivalently healthy.

I'm unaware of any reputable health and dietary organizations recommending people eat less fruits and vegetables. Are you?

> And no matter what I dont think downing a pack of flinstone gummies is a healthy diet

You can buy 90 tablets that each have 16,667% of the US RDA B12 (also 100% each of B6 and folic acid) at a cost of $7 from Amazon with free shipping if you have Prime. Unless you have serious absorption issues (which would cause you problems on a non-vegan diet also) you can meet your requirements easily by taking one every week.

I don't understand why you seem so threatened by the idea of people being able to meet their nutritional needs without animal products in a reasonable and practicable way that you feel compelled to make up a strawman to argue against.

u/MostlyDragon · 3 pointsr/Celiac

Thanks for the advice. I can second B12 and Probiotics. I'll look into the other items. :)

Sublingual B12 helped me a lot in the early days with energy and focus. Now it doesn't seem to do as much which I take to mean I'm absorbing more vitamins the old-fashioned way. I take this: https://www.amazon.com/Solgar-Vitamin-Nuggets-1000-Count/dp/B00020IAPA/ref=sr_1_8_s_it?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1496060078&sr=1-8&keywords=sublingual%2Bb12&th=1

Probiotics are definitely recommended. My GI doc said to try several strains until I found one that helped.

Avoiding dairy still seems to be a must for me, which is irritating as Indian food is the only restaurant food I feel comfortable eating, and it's usually cooked in butter. I get away with a little dairy, but any more and my stomach feels like it was glutened. I just don't have the mental symptoms with dairy, just GI issues.

Question for you: Why did your friend go GF due to Lyme? I had Lyme disease as a child and it messed with my body for years afterwards. My takeaway from that experience was that it's a disease doctors don't really understand. I'm curious what connection her doctor found?

u/kirbias · 9 pointsr/bipolar

OK so my brain fog/memory issues mostly involved stuff like walking into a room and immediately forgetting why I walked in there, missing entire chunks of sentences when writing essays, forgetting a thought halfway through a sentence, a reduced vocabulary, and just general trouble retaining information. I read a study that suggested adding a folic acid supplement to lamotrigine monotherapy improved mood and memory outcomes, so I gave it a shot. I'm not totally back to normal, but I'm much, much better on the supplements than off the supplements. It took about 3 days for the FA to build up in my system and for me to notice the effects, and if I'm off the FA for ~3 days, I go right back to Brain Fog City. I use a complete B-complex supplement because it helps with other stuff but a solo FA supplement may work just as well. This is the supplement I use.

u/woodwife · 6 pointsr/vegan

I change it up from time to time, but right now it's this.
Pure Advantage B-12 Methylcobalamin Spray, 1 Fluid Ounce https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0014JOBXS/

You might also have trouble absorbing b12 (which is why my omni friends has b12 deficiency), so if you can it might be worth having your doctor check for pernicious anemia. Good luck!!

u/kittenkinesis · 2 pointsr/bipolar

Take a look into folic acid, specifically the fancy one that's already processed (l-methylfolate). Lamictal messes with the enzyme used to process folic acid. I also have a gene that a lot of the population shares that inhibits the amount of enzymes I create to process the folic acid.

I have been using this one, and I don't know if it is placebo effect but it is working very well for me.

There are also a few posts made here which helped me find the solution. Google 'reddit bipolar lamotrigine memory'. Also you can look up research papers for free on Google Scholar to really get an idea of what it is, what it's efficacy is, and how it works.

u/BBHMMplz · 1 pointr/weddingplanning

I haven't found a single one, outside of maybe random arm/facial hair also growing faster. A few years ago my hormones must have gone totally out of wack cause my usually long, thick hair stopped growing. Biotin totally turned it around and I've been taking it long enough now to really believe it's not a placebo effect.

Here's what I take, if it helps! They're super delicious: https://www.amazon.com/Vitafusion-Extra-Strength-Biotin-Gummies/dp/B00OJOFX2S

u/esorous · 1 pointr/vegan

My husband and I take these Solgar nuggets, 1000 mcg a couple times a week. I've read that sublingual is best for absorption and 2000 mcg is a good amount per week. These are a really good deal for the price.

u/shrinktoavoid · 3 pointsr/proED

I track my intake on cronometer so it's nice that I've been able to look what vitamins/minerals I don't get enough of... my current focus is trying to save my hair so here's my current regimin:

1st thing in the morning 1/2 a tablet of this Iron w/ vitamin C with a full glass of water. I don't eat or drink anything else until at least an hour later.

With breakfast: this multivitamin. I've found it to be the most complete in terms of what I'm usually deficit in. Its one of the only multis that I found with a good amount of zinc.

Glucosamine for my joints.

And an omega 3. I choose this one because it has a good ratio of EPA to DHA.

With lunch: another multivitamin (the serving size is 3 capsules, so I spread them throughout the day because i feel like that would be better for absorption,

vitamin E

15g collagen

With dinner: The last multivitamin, another glucosamine tablet, and another omega.

I also make sure I eat dark leafy greens each day, pay attention to my calcium, and spend time in the sunshine. Otherwise I would supplement vit k, vit d, and calcium

And all that adds 107 calories to my intake. Which is sad, but worth it.

u/DisposeOfEventually · 1 pointr/depressionregimens

TL;DR: Try adding niacin and lithium orotate, and look into tDCS or even TMS.

I can relate to what you're going through. I've been on Wellbutrin (300mg/daily) for the past 9 years, and I know it helps raise the lower floor of my depression. (I know this because, at the end of a 6-month hiatus to see if it was having any effect, I was worse than my worst days 20 years ago.) But it doesn't seem to do a whole lot more than that for me. I'm also on Vyvanse (40mg) for ADD, which it seems to help, but even though its a stimulant, it doesn't have much of a stimulatory effect on me. (This was true on a prescription for Adderall, as well; often were the times I'd take an Adderal with my morning vitamins and Wellbutrin and just go back to sleep for a few more hours.).

In addition to Wellbutrin and Vyvanse, here's what I've done or am doing that has helped incrementally with each addition. Your mileage may vary:

  • B12 (10,000mcg sublingual)
  • Caffeine (200mg in morning and afternoon)
  • Garden of Life Mood+ Probiotics
  • Phenibut (750mg, followed by 500mg 4-8 hours later)^1
  • Niacin (500mg 4x/day)^2
  • Lithium Orotate (5mg/day)^3
  • tDCS: DLPFC F3+ and Supra Orbital Fp2- at 2mA for 20 min^4

^1 Phenibut: only on days when the barometer is dropping appreciably below mean sea-level atmospheric pressure. I'm serious.

^2 Niacin: I learned of this one in this subreddit, I think. I titrated up to 2,000mg/day over the course of a week, and I try to take it with food in my stomach. But it has to be the regular niacin that causes the flushing the first week or so until your body is used to it, not the "extended release" or "no-flush" varieties.

^3 I only recently learned this is available as a mineral supplement. Anecdotally, 5mg is about what you get from lithium occurring naturally in some well-water supplies. My psychiatrist said 5mg isn't even one percent of the amount they give people to stabilize them in a clinical setting, but he also said I was welcome to try it if I wanted. I've only been on this for a week and a half and it may only be helping me sleep, but at least that.

^4 Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation: Did my research, including lurking on /r/tDCS, ended up getting that SSD model I linked to above. My psychiatrist wants me to look into whether Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) would be covered by my insurance (for example, from one of these places), and I said I would, but I first wanted to try this lower-cost, easier-to-implement method of tDCS -- since they are related therapies and target the same neuron areas of the brain, basically. He told me to go ahead and give it a try.

I have to say the last week, with the lithium and the tDCS, has felt mostly different for me. I think it's everything on the list, cumulatively, probably, but it feels especially like it could be the tDCS making the bigger difference, which I've only been doing for a week now. The device could be little more than a "Placebometer 3000," but I know that I tried a lower amperage (1mA) on Sunday and then tried a different montage (placement of electrodes) on Monday, and neither one seemed to be as effective, but today, returning to the initial one I listed above, I feel back on track.

I think a Super B Complex would be better than just B-12.

I have some ALC on the way that may be good for you as well.

Here are a few supplements worth looking into.

Don't forget, weight loss is all about diet AND exercise!

u/dreiter · 3 pointsr/Supplements

There are a few formulas that are combos of either methyl+adeno or adeno+hydroxy but there isn't much research indicating that these combinations are more effective than just taking straight methyl.

Also note that some nutritional yeasts aren't B12-fortified so they will NOT be a reliable source of the vitamin. Always check the label to confirm that B12 is listed and a mcg/DV% is given.

MetanX contains

L-methylfolate (Metafolin): 3 mg, http://www.amazon.com/Life-Extension-Optimized-l-methylfolate-Vegetarian/dp/B002R3G8BS/ref=sr_1_6_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1463606811&sr=8-6&keywords=Metafolin means $0.42/day

Pyridoxal 5'-phosphate: 35 mg, http://www.amazon.com/Solgar-Pyridoxal-5-Phosphate-Tablets-Specially-Coated/dp/B00014ELKK/ref=sr_1_2_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1463606920&sr=8-2&keywords=Pyridoxal+5%27-phosphate means $0.13/day (for 50mg)

Methylcobalamin: 2 mg, http://www.amazon.com/Jarrow-Formulas-Methylcobalamin-B12-Supports/dp/B002FJW3ZY/ref=sr_1_3_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1463607019&sr=8-3&keywords=Methylcobalamin means $0.12/day.

For a total of $0.67/pill, then it's a question of how many pills he took per day. You can get most of them cheaper. Does he take 10? That's $200/mo. Does he take 20? That's $400/mo. And so on. The company lists a going rate of $58/mo for uninsured pt's. I don't know if metafolin can be prescribed, but I'm assuming B6 and B12 can be for a vitamin deficiency. That would reduce cost even more.

The point I'm trying to make is that yes, it probably did have an effect on the patient's willingness to commit suicide. But pretending like he had a singular issue and that was which food groups his insurance covered is, in my opinion, an oversimplified version of the events.

You can cut costs on this by buying pinto beans and rice in bulk. I don't know if you have a WinCo near you, but it looks like if I order on their website I can get 25lb bags of pinto beans for $15.20 each and 25lb bags of brown rice for $15.68 each. Some places also sell soy beans in bulk if you want to make your own tofu (although you'll also want to fortify it with calcium, because otherwise you won't get enough with this combo of ingredients). Personally, I failed to make tofu from soy beans once and haven't bothered with that since. Easiest to just buy it premade. I usually get my broccoli frozen when it goes on sale. $1/lb is usually the price point I wait for and then I get as much as I can.

These are the specific supplements I take, if you are curious:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07H8RC4BZ

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01ATPBE6E

I chose that particular B12 supplement because it is a dissolvable tablet that goes under the tongue. I had a diagnosed B12 deficiency in the past and blood tests have confirmed that my B12 levels have gone back up into the ref range since I started taking this supplement.

I chose that vitamin D supplement because it is D3 instead of D2 (like many vegan vitamin D supplements) and it is suspended in coconut oil. Vitamin D is fat soluble. There is limited data regarding whether having it be directly suspended in lipids in the supplement itself is helpful, but I figure it can't hurt on a diet which is so low in fat to begin with. I also take it with my meal. Unfortunately, I have not been able to test whether my previously diagnosed vitamin d deficiency has been reversed, because my current insurance will not cover the test.

Sweet! Make sure to order some b12 if your fiance hasn't already.

This site has some tips that I think are useful.

The FAQ/wiki have some useful info; though now that I'm looking they're missing standard operating procedures for most industries, which I think are the most compelling reason to stay vegan.

Read the article for specifics. 2500mg CYANO once a week. You'll need to look up vitamin d and epa/dha on the same site for more info. Deva is a good epa/dha brand and plnt makes vitamin d for vegans as well.

B12

Pea Protein Isolate

Pea Protein is cheaper than Whey Protein and has a better amino acid profile. And B12 with PPP is way cheaper than things like eggs or meat.

Being vegan is easy.

Think about it.

Try taking a supplement that is absorbed better than swallowing. Sublingual methods are shown to have better absorption rates. Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Vegan-Vitamins-Sublingual-Tablets-Count/dp/B01ATPBE6E/ref=sr_1_2_s_it?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1501279266&sr=1-2&keywords=deva+b12

I take "Deva Vegan B12 Fast Dissolve1000 mcg Tablets" - this is a link to them on Amazon (just a link, not some referral bullshit): https://www.amazon.com/Vegan-Vitamins-Sublingual-Tablets-Count/dp/B01ATPBE6E/

I'm not a big fan of pills but these things don't taste bad and can just dissolve in your mouth - they kind of remind me of those chalky sugar straws that kids would pretend were cigarettes from the 90's... anyway... easy to take.

>But, bro, it's liek 16,667% of your Daily Value - are you trying to get me to be kill?

B-12 is water-soluble just like Vitamin C - as long as you pee at least once per week you'll be fine. And no excess upper level yet exists for toxicity. Your body will take as much as it needs, and remove the rest through urination.

I've been taking these for almost 4 years now according to my Amazon purchase history.

u/hcantrall · 4 pointsr/rheumatoidarthritis

I'm not sure if it is only a B12 difficeincy, I was taking this . More like a generalized deficiencies of all sort. Which is quite normal knowing the poor state of our digestive tube. It is malabsorption, not a deficiency in the food we eat. Well B12 is kinda special actually it is made by bacteria, we actually produce it in enough quantities in our colon but we need to get to our stomach so we can absorb, the joy of the modern hygienic life :p

For B12 I believe it is absorption start in the stomach. So first question do you have ulcers? low stomach acid ? GERD is a good indicator of having low stomach acid, in that case protein bounded B12 won't help you that much, maybe tablets you can put under your tongue?

I don't swallow pills but I take a lot of vitamins. I take this b-12, pour liquid iron in my OJ (I get it from my local pharmacy), and spray vitamin D. I also eat a chewable turmeric. I used to get my b-12 from all the nutritional yeast I ate but I don't eat it as much anymore so it's easier to take the vitamins. If you get your blood checked every 3-6 months you should be able to keep tabs on what you're lacking if anything.

Not being approved by the FDA doesn't really mean much, you can look at the back of pretty much anything in the supplements aisle and it'll have a little note saying "these statements have not been approved by the food and drug administration"

You know you can buy supplement methy B12 and folate ? I wouldn't inject anything I bought off the internet especially china.

Getting from a steroid website would be safer than China as those are peer reviewed on eroids.com

I'd stick with supplement methyl B complex rather than inject. Besides it isn't fat soluble so you'll only piss out anything your body doesn't use that day.

I have the MTHFR gene mutation so have issues with B12 so I take a methyl B complex and my sister has a deficiency despite taking regular b complex so I just got some for her too.
